Modders got a look at the file system and textures in the benchmark, apparently it barely changed anything on a fundamental level. The only things that are fricked are skin/hair mods, pretty much everything else will be up and running in like a week.

The character creator in the benchmark still uses the original game's character creator lighting which is why a lot of people's characters look terrible in the creator but great in the actual benchmark. Yoshi put out a statement yesterday basically apologizing for it and saying they're going to re-release the benchmark with the updated creator.

I don't understand why they're even doing a rework, the universal response from dragoon mains has been "please leave our class alone". And it's not even like dragoon has a low player count, it's probably the most popular melee after samurai. There's also no need to make a braindead easy melee class (which was probably the motivation behind Summoner's rework), because that job already exists and it's called reaper. Who is this supposed to please?
I play all jobs and dont really get why reaper is called easy in comparison to samurai or dragoon.
All jobs are braindead easy with BLM being "normal".
Reaper plays really slowly outside of your enshroud phase and is super forgiving in terms of combos/positionals. It also requires basically no thought to get into, even with samurai you have to understand the basic "hit buttons to build stickers, unleash stickers when you have three". Most jobs in the game are definitely easy, but reaper/summoner/warrior are just on a special tier of easy

Yeah, probably. If any combo built up your "Midare gauge" instead of needing one of each, and if Higanbana was always available instead of requiring one sticker to use, then samurai would be as easy as reaper. Maybe still a little faster, but fundamentally the same.
Because there was no place to iterate them towards. It was a finished job. And adding new buttons like Wyrmwind Thrust that provide nothing other than "something to press on occasion" would just lead to bloat.
And also if I can be critical for a moment, I'd argue that while the Dragoon job is in a great spot gameplay-wise, running like a well-oiled machine, it kind of lacks in flavor. Its jumps really should be a bigger and more prevalent feature, given that it's their iconic thing.
Basically, there's a lot to gain by reworking if they do it right.
But there's also a WHOLE SHITLOAD to lose if they don't do it well, because a lot of DRGs are kind of happy with where they are at the moment, and if their entire job gets gutted when it was in a good spot, then that's probably going to cause a lot of (justified) sourness.

I think it's not really stances but each healer except sage gets new type 2 replacement actions tied to Temperance/Neutral Sect/Emergency Tactics. type 2 replacements are actions that only appear under certain buffs, e.g. tank stances are tied by a type 2 replacement action: Grit -> Release Grit. maybe it's just whm/ast/sch getting new heal/mit tools while temperance/neutral sect/sch is used.
Hope it's to remove the whole pure healer/shield healer crap. I miss noct sect man, loved being able to toggle regen/shields depending on what job my cohealer joins on.

I think I'm coming around to elongated fangs. I'm having trouble with them because while they look really good when the mouth is open, they look kinda dorky when the mouth is closed.

I'm waiting for the second benchmark before finalizing the coloring because it's too much of a pain in the ass to launch the benchmark for every change. I always knew the character creator was a piece of shit but the lighting changes made it even more noticeable. The overhaul is long overdue.

I'm trying to make him fairly close to the CGI version (as much as I can) rather than the version Square uses ingame, so I'm not following the ingame version 1:1. I did change his brows because CGI Juan has some really prominent brows (now that I can see them properly).
I hate that the Dawntrail hair looks so much better than all other hairstyles, because I've always been partial to the ShB/EW look.

I don't necessarily think most of the old hairstyles in the benchmark look bad. Just that the DT one looks considerably better than them. It's a bit jarring. It feels like it has more volume.

What would be a forever grind exactly? If you beat all current dungeons, ultimates, etc. you will have nothing to grind. That will still be true in DT.
Everyone taking about forever grinds when MMOs should be able playing with people and having content that you can play with friends/strangers(and not just conveyor belt match making) at various skill levels of content. Xiv fails at this.
On a scale of 1 to 10 how broken would it be if you could use hallowed ground + cover to negate damage for another player? I assume it would let you skip more mechanics in raids but the cooldown is huge, surely it can't be that good?
if that were a thing it'd be way easier to cheese mechanics but still not guaranteed victory, paladin's balancing would probably be more weighted around that combo than it is currently, ie not really at all since that combo is specifically nonfunctional
There's no situation that would be useful because there's nothing targeting dps or healers that would require HG to negate. Covering your cotank for tankbusters used to be extremely powerful but they nerfed Cover.

The people complaining are mod beasts remembering how their characters look without the mods.
The character creator in the benchmark still uses the original game's character creator lighting which is why a lot of people's characters look terrible in the creator but great in the actual benchmark. Yoshi put out a statement yesterday basically apologizing for it and saying they're going to re-release the benchmark with the updated creator.

I don't understand why they're even doing a rework, the universal response from dragoon mains has been "please leave our class alone". And it's not even like dragoon has a low player count, it's probably the most popular melee after samurai. There's also no need to make a braindead easy melee class (which was probably the motivation behind Summoner's rework), because that job already exists and it's called reaper. Who is this supposed to please?

I play all jobs and dont really get why reaper is called easy in comparison to samurai or dragoon.
All jobs are braindead easy with BLM being "normal".
Reaper plays really slowly outside of your enshroud phase and is super forgiving in terms of combos/positionals. It also requires basically no thought to get into, even with samurai you have to understand the basic "hit buttons to build stickers, unleash stickers when you have three". Most jobs in the game are definitely easy, but reaper/summoner/warrior are just on a special tier of easy

Yeah, probably. If any combo built up your "Midare gauge" instead of needing one of each, and if Higanbana was always available instead of requiring one sticker to use, then samurai would be as easy as reaper. Maybe still a little faster, but fundamentally the same.
Because there was no place to iterate them towards. It was a finished job. And adding new buttons like Wyrmwind Thrust that provide nothing other than "something to press on occasion" would just lead to bloat.
And also if I can be critical for a moment, I'd argue that while the Dragoon job is in a great spot gameplay-wise, running like a well-oiled machine, it kind of lacks in flavor. Its jumps really should be a bigger and more prevalent feature, given that it's their iconic thing.
Basically, there's a lot to gain by reworking if they do it right.
But there's also a WHOLE SHITLOAD to lose if they don't do it well, because a lot of DRGs are kind of happy with where they are at the moment, and if their entire job gets gutted when it was in a good spot, then that's probably going to cause a lot of (justified) sourness.
Instead of a rework, all they would have to fix is having to delay Life to align with buffs. Its dumb. I feel the same about delaying life as I do about samurai filler gcd's.

I think it's not really stances but each healer except sage gets new type 2 replacement actions tied to Temperance/Neutral Sect/Emergency Tactics. type 2 replacements are actions that only appear under certain buffs, e.g. tank stances are tied by a type 2 replacement action: Grit -> Release Grit. maybe it's just whm/ast/sch getting new heal/mit tools while temperance/neutral sect/sch is used.
maybe it's a revisiting of the cleric stance idea as an on/off toggle? granted revisiting cleric stance is really stupid

There is a pretty decent sized influx of players because of the recent addition of Xbox players/Extension on the free trial to 2nd expansion. It is probably getting towards the end window of one of the best times to start you are going to have for a long while.
Now is a good time. My advice if you are brand new:

I thought it looked interesting in the concept art, then once I saw it in the actual game I realized it just looks like a big dark blurr in practice and all the details are lost on it. That's to do with lighting. And yeah, the lighting is a bit fricky.
Otherwise, it's all done by texture maps and shaders, which they said weren't in the best state compared to their internal builds either.
Still, scars being driven by diffuse doesn't bode well. They really ought to be mainly powered by normal maps, with slight diffuse skin discoloration.

I'm trying to make him fairly close to the CGI version (as much as I can) rather than the version Square uses ingame, so I'm not following the ingame version 1:1. I did change his brows because CGI Juan has some really prominent brows (now that I can see them properly).
I hate that the Dawntrail hair looks so much better than all other hairstyles, because I've always been partial to the ShB/EW look.

I don't necessarily think most of the old hairstyles in the benchmark look bad. Just that the DT one looks considerably better than them. It's a bit jarring. It feels like it has more volume.
It's hard to state just how hard Elezen won with the graphics update. Both Males and Females look fantastic now

What would be a forever grind exactly? If you beat all current dungeons, ultimates, etc. you will have nothing to grind. That will still be true in DT.
forever grinds require two things:
1: it has to affect character power
2: it has to take a very, VERY long time

On a scale of 1 to 10 how broken would it be if you could use hallowed ground + cover to negate damage for another player? I assume it would let you skip more mechanics in raids but the cooldown is huge, surely it can't be that good?
if that were a thing it'd be way easier to cheese mechanics but still not guaranteed victory, paladin's balancing would probably be more weighted around that combo than it is currently, ie not really at all since that combo is specifically nonfunctional
There's no situation that would be useful because there's nothing targeting dps or healers that would require HG to negate. Covering your cotank for tankbusters used to be extremely powerful but they nerfed Cover.
