No seriously though are you fricking moronic or just a low-IQ ESL? You use language such as "kids" which implies you're someone of the older generation since that's how you address the younglings, which goes back to my original statement. If you're not from that age group, stop obsessing over them.
I had the same problem, either it was the renderer option or the game was in borderless window instead of full sized, don't remember. Check the internet for a solution since it's a common problem
I've never played it. I lost interest when I read about a girl in Newsweek who had put the game on a chip and implanted it in her skin. I thought that was silly and lame. A few years later, gamergate happened. Guess who the chick was? So the 'silly and lame person' association became a 'literally the worst thing to have ever happened to gaming' type one
I feel like being able to switch sides obliterated any sense of stake,
The other problem with IW was the books/datacubes were one or two sentences each which just gave a feeling of shallowness much like fake doors in corridor shooters that turn out to be just a decal - it would have been better not to pique your interest in the first place.
I think it's too old and jank for the action elements to really be palpable. I understand my skill influences my recoil and stability but even mastered it just feels like it's trying to ape a shooter- which it can't do.
Melee and explosives are far more fun and I don't know how anyone can really enjoy the tranq crossbow or can tolerate staying nonlethal for a playthrough. Some skills/augs being useless as well is just poor design.
I think the writing gets silly and hammy when bartenders are quoting political philosophy. There. I Sstill like that the game tries to keep high-brow themes, but sometimes it feels like college graduates trying to show off show smart they are by having rando strangers act erudite. Random strangers are almost universally average IQ and can't even name the capitals of the states around them, much less reference Napoleon on Notting Hill. . Also, even for the time the game looks fricking ugly.
People love to use the "skill" excuse for the shooting being shit but it makes no sense in the game. JC is a cyborg cop from the future he should start off being able to shoot a gun.
>IV >6/10: LevelDesign
At least someone got that right, the entire mission structure throughout act 2 onwards is copy/paste. >start mission/cutscene >drive to location >fire fight or chasing someone >escape - either from gangsters or police >drive back to where you started the mission
I understand, a person whose entire life revolves on the internet with little to no experiences with actual people, of course something that is petty or lacks significance is going to seem momentous.
>special agent has the aim of a 90-year-old with Parkinson's and needs to spend hours on upgrades for passable steady aim >lot of filler after Hong Kong
Games industry is bigger than the motion picture industry. I think about that a lot.
Before adulthood spiritually walled me, I looked forwards to new films. It seemed everyone went to see Forrest Gump, Speed, and Terminator 2.
That's actually not the case when you look back though: almost none of these films broke records. Even back then, Star Wars, the biggest entertainment brand of all-time, most people had never watched any film. For most people who have, they first saw the 1997 remasters and never the originals. The only people who saw the originals are in their fifties or older. So-called 'blockbuster' films that did break records, like Titanic, that was down to a small number of people going to see it in cinemas five or more times.
Recurrent spending is powerful, because some people are spending all they can on something, and as incomes grow this will keep up. It needs to really appeal to those people though, enough that they don't even look for alternatives.
The belief that such an audience would remain if appeal was broadened had merit the first and second time, but loses it because the stable and less fickle audience gets older and more inclined towards what they want: they don't get replaced by a newer set of spenders fast enough. People are having less children, not more.
The different ways this subject is articulated always have the underlying truth: the audiences are so large that one part of it can represent all of it, and their preferences are at odds with each other. Business investors still demand that all avenues for profit be chased at once rather than explore each as exclusive options.
It's fricking mess, I wouldn't call it even a game, just a buck of sandbox levels, last levels are just an unbalanced mess and you need to cosplay jedi with your fricking sword
It's more like a proof of concept for game design philosophy than an actual game. The way everything branches and the interactivity was groundbreaking but they forgot to make it enjoyable.
No ammo for assault rifles
I had a lot of fun having a decked out modified upgraded assault rifle but still by the end of the game on Realistic I'd have scrounged up maybe two mags before being forced to switch to shotgun/sword/pistol
Otherwise honestly can't think of any, maybe sometimes getting lost on some levels like the big ship at the port
It doesn't excell in any gameplay section but that doesn't mean it's bad.
Sometimes the hitboxes can be pretty unpredictable.
The plot can feel a bit suffocating at times.
Some weapons are outright trash, even if they shouldn't be.
It's pretty obviously unfinished despite still being amazing
Laser sight breaks the whole game
You usually don't get to hear the full combat themes because fights are very brief
Saving Paul is nonsensical, even a JC with a maxed out strength aug can't offer to carry him out the window
No non-lethal options for Anna and Gunther outside of glitches
Many useless weapons like throwing knifes and the stealth pistol
Swimming as a stat is seriously moronic
>stealth is trash, can sprint up to most enemies until you're like 10ft away then start sneaking and they don't notice you >every power being an active skill is fricking irritating >areas are pretty sparse, few secrets >half the skills are pointless >every npc is a philosopher, especially the homeless >dumb irl conspiracy theories just thrown into the game haphazardly (younger millennials and zoomers eat it up cause they've never heard of them)
It would be nice if the enemies had more than one animation for being shot. Them reacting the same to a 9mm pistol as to a combat shotgun makes it hard to tell if you are actually doing any damage.
Unnecessary inventory management
I had to abuse a bug where I hid multiple items behind a bigger item to make sure JC doesn't pick up knives and crowbars off the floor
Either way, seeing as how it's more about class than race or sex and has a strict anti-corporation mentality, I doubt anyone would call it woke if it came out now.
Some of the late game levels around Paris seem kind of filler ish. The levels aren't bad but there are a couple like the missile silo that feel kind of pointless.
It's been more than 5 years since I played, so I may be wrong in some parts, but:
The quality drops halfway through (rougly after Hong kong or Paris(?)) and only picks up right before choosing an ending. It's not a writing issue, but there's a general lack of attention or polishing, or at least that was the impression I had when I played.
They dumped the UNATCO route so, you can be the hero of UNATCO, kill a bunch of terrorists, just to knee jerk around based on the word of your brother (who everyone is suspicious of). This is less of an issue if you go through and check the evidence of UNATCO's wrongdoings, but if you don't, it becomes weird to justify as far as writing is concerned.
The combat is janky and the self sharpening sword makes a bunch of actions, like opening doors or killing enemies that didn't see you yet, trivial.
Hacking a computer should stop the fricking timer. I want to read an e-mail, can I do it in a leisure pace?
The bartender in Hong kong has some baffling dialogue if you consider with a modern perspective of China and Hong Kong, so much it hurts.
None ruin the game, I love it even through I'm not an RPG guy and it's the standard I judge every game writing.
What kind of a fricking crackhead designed the assault rifle? 7.2x51 NATO my ass, this thing makes 9mm look like .50 cal with how pathetic of a weapon it is. The bloody Half Life SMG was a better gun than that chink made, globohomosexual approve piece of shit.
If you put a lot of skillpoints and bring ARs to a master they become really powerful because of it's accuracy, going full auto into pretty much anyone's head with it was a death sentence the game however refused to give me any AR ammo though so that's a shame
>If you put a lot of skillpoints and bring ARs to a master
My man, I can't count how many times I did that over the years and yeah, the AR becomes pretty solid but it still pales compared to either shotguns or the the queen that is the sniper rifle. Shit gets good but you also have to compare it to two guns that are amazing.
As an aside, anyone watch a lotta of drone footage from Ukraine and have a moment of horror when you use a spy drone and see how fricking well the game aged?
I think the actual gameplay isn't very good, with one obvious meta with stealth takedowns that makes all playthroughs feel the same.
Levels become way too linear after Hong Kong. Related to the first point, the levels aren't varied or interesting enough for the stealth mechanics to carry it as much as in a dedicated stealth game.
That's it honestly. Story and aesthetics are GOAT 90s zeitgeist and I often find more to appreciate about it on each playthrough.
People say the graphics aged poorly, but I disagree. I thought they were a bit rough when it launched, particularly the 2D explosions.
Also the lasers could use some work. Some places you can use pepper spray etc. to bypass them, other places it will instead trigger them (never mind npcs that can just walk through them with no problem). Pick one or the other, just be consistent.
Area 51 is absolute garbage. I don’t know why RPG developers think that an epic huge location with a bunch of enemies must be at the end. Just give me some small memorable quest to end game on the high note.
I can't. It's pretty damn close to perfect.

There's nothing wrong with DX but DXIW was unfortunate from a technical standpoint. Still better written than the modern slop.

It has black people and women in it
There's this one level where the helicopter is forced to land in some MJ12 base, felt like completely filler to pad out the time of the game.
I think it's too old and jank for the action elements to really be palpable. I understand my skill influences my recoil and stability but even mastered it just feels like it's trying to ape a shooter- which it can't do.

Pick one or the other, just be consistent.
gunplay is shit, all the guns look like shit.
Area 51 is absolute garbage. I don’t know why RPG developers think that an epic huge location with a bunch of enemies must be at the end. Just give me some small memorable quest to end game on the high note.
picking up tiny items like nanokeys is a wheelbarrow of dicks pain
