OPL has compatibility settings that are worth tinkering with. there's a guide here: https://www.ps2-home.com/forum/page/opl-game-compatibility-list-1
but i've also found that randomly setting compatibility settings works too for games that the guide doesnt have information on, or if their stated fix doesnt work for me.
>emulators in the 90s were janky and obviously inaccurate but people didn't care because "holy shit I am playing Nintendo on my computer!!" >PS2 emulation is going to be stuck at this level forever >all PS2s will eventually die
HAHAHAHAHA
I honestly have no clue what the autists in this thread are talking about. My pcsx2 works great. Same with duckstation, one of my favorite emulators. Runs like a scalded dog baby, and if you have above room-temp IQ you can figure out how to configure the video settings/plugins to make it look great.
>>PS2 emulation is going to be stuck at this level forever
To be fair would not be terrible if the pcsx2 development ceased today. As long CPUS keep getting faster and better, pcsx2 in software will be doable at full speed even for future low-end pcs.
It's not even that hard to replace the laser, you just have to unscrew a few things and plug the new one in
I'm not sure it's the laser. I'm not getting a Disc Read error and I don't hear the console doing anything. Previously I had some problems with the thing not booting and I had to hold the disc tray down for a while to get it to work. I think the motor just doesn't want to pick up the CD anymore for some reason.
Oh I know what it is. Assuming you have a slim, the open/close sensor isn't working. You have put something kinda heavy on top like a few books(some people suggest putting the console upside down but that is absolutely moronic). Also I'm not sure if you're "Right" is sarcastic but the blue lights not moving literally is just the clock not working; this is fact. Either way your PS2 is in it's final days and you need to start hoarding asap.
Welp I slapped the disc tray a few times and now it boot up again
I scrolled through the thread again and am seeing that it is a slim. Stop slapping it moron, just put something on top of it. If you don't, it's going to suddenly think you "opened" it while you're in the middle of a game.
Right. Something like that seems to be the case. I did decide to buy a Fat model just now because my Slim doesn't want to detect the webcams I bought for Police 9/11 for some reason.
If you want help doing repairs feel free to ask, PS2 slims are a bit of a mess but it's worth trying. All you're really gonna need is a blade to cut the warranty sticker, the appropriate Philips driver, some white lithium grease, contact cleaner, a few q-tips and some 91% isopropyl alcohol and maybe 15 minutes of time to work on it.
What's the problem? I replaced the laser in my PS2 Slim a few years back and it was pretty simple. Just find the right part, order the replacement, and stick it in. It should be fine.
You sure it's dead? Mine didn't read PS1 discs and had cutscene stutters when playing from DVD, but after I cleaned the laser it works fine. I have a 30004R though if that matters.
Yes, but keep in mind the fat PS2s disc tray goes out pretty quickly. Very hit-or-miss, I lucked out and mine honestly lasted for fricking ever. At least 10 years or so with no problems, and I fixed the disc tray myself when it went out.
Original hardware gays have to believe emulators are unplayable garbage to justify their hobby of collecting overpriced plastic
Nothing wrong with collecting as a hobby, but I get so irritated when people shit on emulators. It's like, these people put in countless hours and make this great software with a million plugins/options, and like jannies I think they do it for free.. I personally appreciate the hell out of it, but these spastics come along and rage about it, maybe you're right kek.
I'm not a collector. It would be my second console I ever owned. Only console I had was a Pegasus IQ-502 as a kid, I was always a PC gamer. I'm asking because I don't want to overpay.
you may be able to get more life out of it by adjusting the affected laser's pot.
google it.
beware, there are two lasers (cd and dvd) and hence two pots, and if you adjust it incorrectly you will overcurrent your laser and kill it.
t. used to repair these in a used vidya shop during the PS2s heyday
Now stick an hdd in that b***h
It's a slim though...
OPL over ethernet
What he said.
i tried to play ff12 like this but the cutscenes stutter 🙁 everything else has worked good though

enabling modes 1 or 2 in OPL settings for the game might help with stuttering.
Yes, sometimes Ethernet connection will stutter
It’s nowhere near as fast as HDD
SCPH-7000X slims still have the sudoku routine put in place by Sony. You dun goofed with that ESR son. Start looking into USB/SMB over OPL
It's a SCHP-75004, what sudoku routine do you mean? I played it using ESR for a really long time.
It's time for a lesson in The Impermanence of All Things(tm).
No way to repair the system?
There might be. I have no experience with it though.
Do some research in that case. Fixing ones own possessions gives a really good feeling.
>he fell for the original hardware meme
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
how's that PCSX2 treating you
Good
That looks blurry as shit
half the polygon budget went into that gun.
Runs perfectly on my 7 year old CPU
Cope
>creates thread asking why PS2 emulation is so shit
>talks about PS2 being so blurry
Lol
What?
>emulators in the 90s were janky and obviously inaccurate but people didn't care because "holy shit I am playing Nintendo on my computer!!"
>PS2 emulation is going to be stuck at this level forever

HAHAHAHAHA
playstation emulators suck because there are no good playstation exclusives
I'm sure PCSX2 will reach PS1 levels of emulation some day. Recently the Duckstation dev took over PCSX2 and the emulator is already 10x better

Okay I don't think it's the laser now. It gets stuck on the browser screen with no stars moving even with no disc plugged in.
The stars not moving just means the internal clock broke.
Right

Hey man slapping worked. I tried to put something heavy on it but it didn't. Guess I need something heavier.
Right. Something like that seems to be the case. I did decide to buy a Fat model just now because my Slim doesn't want to detect the webcams I bought for Police 9/11 for some reason.
Just hoard PS2s. They all die.

Anyone got recommendations for replacements lazer? OP needs your help.
For a slim?
no, but anyone that uses discs should check this out
Welp I slapped the disc tray a few times and now it boot up again
sounds like there some loose solder or something
holy sour grapes I didn't knew a $2 console could make anons seethe so hard

Can you not just replace the laser?
Replace it?

Speaking of, is 30$ a fair price for a fat PS2 with all accessories? Only issue is that the controller is not original.
In my country they go for 50 euros.
Yes, but keep in mind the fat PS2s disc tray goes out pretty quickly. Very hit-or-miss, I lucked out and mine honestly lasted for fricking ever. At least 10 years or so with no problems, and I fixed the disc tray myself when it went out.

Why do coomlectors always call others poorgays but then haggle over 30 fricking dollars lmao
I'm not a collector. It would be my second console I ever owned. Only console I had was a Pegasus IQ-502 as a kid, I was always a PC gamer. I'm asking because I don't want to overpay.
Imagine being a moron and running burned disks
