Agreed, but I will say it and other recent low poly games have really just spurred a lot of interest in me in regards to the rigging, animation, and just general design put into them.
Lunistice feels like a 3D platformer that could be great, but just misses the mark. I tried the demo and felt it was just okay. The icons you collect don't seem to have any real point and having them set along the path you travel anyways doesn't make it feel good. I almost get the vibe it was meant to be a game to speedrun, but maybe by only playing the demo I missed more to the game.
The cranes are just for score, the letters and keys are what unlocks the (underwhelming nier automata rip off) final level.

Actually its four. The bottom one has the greeves and the wall run gem when the sun greeves outfit does not have the glove.
To put it another way, upper is Samus at the start of the game, bottom is Samus at the end of the game, but the right is actually the Zero suit.

Generally the same thing as Metroid. Cling sleeve is a literal sleeve, greaves are actual greaves, they are just the upgrades.
Outside of the cosmetic suit that's just a suit.

This game looks awesome, not even from a coomer standpoint. But every review has 2 hrs and everyone says it's short, so i just don't have it in me to bother. If it was a full game (and for a platformer it only needs like 6-10 hours) i would go for it, but 2 hr games always leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I was hoping there would be some cool tech with bouncing it off the wall and then kicking off but the only practical use I found for the kick was combat since it seems to auto-target enemies fairly well. Still probably not as fast as regular attacks but it feels nice to do occasionally. However, I didn't realize that your kick comes out fast enough to immediately hit it, rather I thought you had to catch it coming down or on the return.
the dev has a beta branch where aftet kicking off the sword you maintain the rest of your wallkicks
only problem is the additional height usually never needed over other movement options

No other N64 comes close to Mario 64 in terms of movement. It would have easily gained a Banjo sized followed even despite how short the game is.

Probably not. The N64 was when Nintendo started getting high on it's own farts and it was starting to become a bad landscape for any game that wasnt directly connected to Nintendo
Yeah. But indies and underwhelming level design go hand in hand. I appreciate that it at least doesn't pad things out with boring, bad timed platform challenges or shit like that.
Think part of that is because most of them are one-man bands. I could probably make a decent foundation for a game, but I don't trust myself to be the map designer that can make the most of the moveset provided, while also providing a gradual difficulty curve as the maps progress.
Even with a team, 3D level design just isn't iteration friendly at all, very difficult to go back and just subtly alter things to suck less the way you can just slam at mechanics in empty rooms.
It's a shame, but it is what it is, I haven't seen any good way to prototype 3D environs.

It'd work insofar as the movement tech being applied to 2D, but I don't think it would get noticed without this game existing first.
The 3D aspect is also pretty key to it's success. There aren't many 3D Metroidvanias that also have movement as fun as Sybil's. It helps the game to stand out quite a bit while giving people more of a reason to soften their opinion on it's rougher edges like level design and length, since it's one of the few things really scratching an itch people had.
Going 2D... well I just don't think it'd be anywhere near as unique an experience whilst also needing to compete more.
This game should have unlockable pallette swaps for Sybil like A Hat in Time had.

map design is surprisingly decent, if you just check every exit you will eventually collect everything, everything mandatory is right in the way and for abilities inside buildings you can often see the white glow
from what i experience this might be the order you're "meant" to get the abilities in
Dungeon (slide, attack) > castle samsa (dmg buff) > samsa keep (if i remember right you get the kicks and slam here?) > bailey (finished slide) > library (or frick mayby the kicks were here) > tower (wallrun) > theater (projectile) > belly

the lack of a map wouldn't be a huge issue if it wasn't so easy to sequence break and get hopelessly lost because you missed an essential item at the beginning of the game.
I'll replay it in a couple years after I've forgotten everything and they've added a map and maybe update my review then.

thats fair, but personally i found that the ease you can sequence break to be part of the charm. It forces me to pay attention and decide if the challenge im facing is simply meant to be done later or if im juts not thinking about it right

If you're talking about aphantasia (no mind's eye) then yeah I have that.
But despite that, I don't usually have this much trouble finding my way around in games. I play a bunch of dungeon crawlers, and I'm usually able to find my way around them just fine. I even beat Dungeon Master (1987) and the original Metroid without a map years ago.
My problem is, I tend to easily forget the layout of early areas in games if I haven't been to them in a while.
I was doing long-jump/side-flip/wall-jump shit get into areas I wasn't supposed to be in yet, because I just thought that's what you had to do. I was sequence breaking without even realizing it. So I got all the way to the final area, and just hit a hard wall. Because I missed something crucial way back in the beginning of the game.
Even once I eventually found every item, I still didn't know what the frick the game expected me to actually do to get to some places. So I just kept using the janky walljump shenanigans that got me into trouble in the first place.
This game is basically one big Zelda dungeon. But OoT had a map, a minimap, and an indicator on the door you entered from. I never got once turned around or lost in that game or any of the others.
But those criticisms you could chalk up to just skill issue. But my other issue with the game is the level design. It's just bad. Your moveset is so fluid and diverse but you almost never get to fully utilize it.
The combat also feels tacked on and pointless. The only enemy I even remotely enjoyed fighting was the final boss.

game is alright, really gets held back by the graphics imo. there are lots of low poly games that really nail an aesthetic. pseudoregalia is missing a lot of set dressing and detail to sell the world. could have really taken off if the main character was more attractive.
