It's genuinely heartwarming to see Teyon go from shovelware to a dogshit Rambo game to an ok Terminator game to a legitimately good Robocop game

the Terminator game was exactly as good as the Robocop game: solid 7/10 shooters for clueless normalgays, 11/10 fanservice for movie geeks

fingers crossed that Teyon's next game is Predator, Starship Troopers, or Jurassic Park

RobertCop is way better than Resistance even if you're not a fan, at least you get a straight forward over the top shooter instead of some homosexual crafting stealth wannabe where you're a b***h the whole game

It had the branding of an extremely popular movie.
If it wasn't called "Robocop" nobody would have noticed it.

      Jesus you're naive.

Why did the industry move away from using SALES as a number and latched on to player counts and sessions as an indicator of success?

Coz sales need to be absurdly high to be worthwhile these days. And they're also pushing things towards games as a "service".

Also if you're a /toy/soldier, there are tons of great Robocop figures right now. On the low end, you have NECA bullshit, they just released an Ultimate Robocop that comes with the maintenance chair; they also re-released their ED-209. Then on the higher end you have Mafex, which has released numerous Robocop figures, including two figures recently that feature the licensed face of Peter Weller. Additionally, chinkshit manufacturer Hiya Toys has made a lot of 1/18th scale figures, and is apparently making a 1/12th scale figure with a metal body, though no one has seen them promote it in quite a while.

Not necessarily, successful IPs of the past can’t carry themselves without an accompanying major campaign on their favor. Their previous game, Terminator, initially went completely under the radar since their reputation back then was not only lacking but also tarnished due the shitty Rambo game, it took word of mouth to sway people on their favor and see how surprisingly better they got with developing Terminator.

When Robocop got announced there were more people already in the known about it being made by the same devs as Terminator, thus it immediately raised expectations for the game, which once again got spread by word of mouth after the demo.

the anti-corporate/consumerist "message" is just surface-level trimming for comedy, the fundamental point of the film is the Christ-allegory of Murphy's resurrection and the repudiation of solipsism and the Theseus' Ship paradox
the crux of the film is summed up in the film's final line: "Murphy." - Alex Murphy was always there, just hidden by the mechanical shell

unfortunately they didn't ignore 3, the whole game was made to fill in the gaps between 2 and 3 like anyone gave a shit, even ends with the Jap company coming to buy out OCP

Several points of continuity with Robocop 3 have been retconned away, such as the Old Man being alive and working out of Japanese headquarters, whereas he is very clearly dead in the game

i've only played the first few hours but I don't really mind that
I actually like the concept for 3, with OCP getting bought out and mass evictions to build delta city, it's more an issue of execution.
I think 3 fails more because it's not funny, it's not violent, it doesn't have Weller, and it's generally just shitty, but the concept isn't terrible.

      Anonymous

there are several good games where you get the full Predator pov experience - there are no good games where you get the full "army man hunted by a predator" experience
every AVP game lets you do everything you expect when playing the Predator campaign, but when you're playing the marine, you're always focused primarily on the xenomorphs because there's a lot of those you can shoot and only one or two predators, that's just the nature of the setting - as a result I'd prefer any potential Predator game to take the position of the human being hunted

    some big factors :

-the presence of original actors including the excellent voice acting of Robocop
-the original music of the movie which is amazing as well
-inclusion of stuff from the movie which is both cool in and of itself and nostalgic like the aiming green shit
-the 80s vibe with moronic bad guys etc which is pretty noice

No I'm just wondering why a completely unremarkable fps is standing out so much. Bg3 stood out because it revived dynamic story events and crpgs. This just looks like any other fps just painted like RoboCop

No one says they are different and unique. They are pretty standard FPS games but the devs put a lot of work into being true to the source material. Not just references and easter eggs, but sound, designs, even the feel.

I guess that's nice? So it's just RoboCop. But that's all?

not exactly new ideas but a very interesting implementation that goes against a lot of modern vidya conventions
            you can't crouch
            you can't jump
            there's no cover system
you're reliant on regen health but the game throws masses of enemies at you (and lods e explosives) so you have to balance incoming dps against your regen
you're slow as shit but there's a dash you can get for 2 skill points that sends you forward 20 feet in an instant and bashes enemies in your path
it has FEAR style slomo also available for 2 points
there's an old school delineation of enemy types which ramp up over time. so far i've seen dudes with pistols or SMGs in the beginning, then adding armored targets with AKs, shotguns, grenade launchers, and guys who call in waves of reinforcements if you don't eliminate them fast enough
            [...]
also this. gore effects are awesome, the weapon tech tree makes them even more over the top, and there's different death animations/sound effects depending on where you shoot enemies

            the skill tree sucks though.

So it's basically a tanky shooter like an old school arcade? Movement isn't even a factor, you're just tanking shots and shooting enemies?

I'm not talking shit I'm really curious. I got a lot of indie FPS games that fall under surreal and experimental and I'm scratching my head at RoboCop getting so much attention.

I think they were strapped for time and all they had was Robocaine's body. I think the initial plan was Old man was hoping that the Afterlife project was going to work out, but the end of that project was that it was going to take 100 or so years to reach what they were selling.

Old Man's brain was put into Robocain's shell for 2 reasons
        1. he died before they planned and they had to put him into something and RC2 was the only functional thing on hand
        2. because everybody involved wanted to see Murphy and Cain fight it out again and play it instead of watching it

So in Simon Page's office you see a high school photo dated 2014. We can assume this is Simon Page's own photo from his school days suggesting that Robocop really does take place quite far into the future. The original screenplay said it was the year 1995 and the arcade game said 1990. Come to find out, according to the novelization, Robocop takes place in fricking 2044, because Sylvester Stallone's death is announced on Mediabreak and he's 97 years old at the time of death.

    >How the FRICK did they do it bros?
Viral marketing. Nacon owns Spiders and other shitty French devs that all make the same game just reskinned. Notoriously basically the past 3 Spiders releaases were very clearly viraled. They market to the same morons with hard right rhetoric (their companies politics). Greedfall? dood colonialism kek epic white characters only boiz! the viral around robocop has been basically identical.

Make a licensed game that respects the source material. Don't overcharge for the product you are delivering. Make an actually fun video game.

Giving what people always wanted in movie-based games... to have a game that makes you feel like you're in the movie.

If by boomers you mean 30 year old boomers then yeah. actual boomers don't play videogames and they only liked robocop as a cool action flick and not for the satirical masterpiece that it is.

It helps to have genuine passion and a love and respect for the source material. These guys weren't trying to make a AAA multi-million dollar smash hit mega blockbuster game. They just wanted to make a good enough Robocop game that fans would like.

Robocop doesn't have a black woman bossing him around and showing him up.

It does have a young black man yapping in his ear most of the game though.
