>Publisher Nacon has announced they’ve had their best launch ever in the form of RoboCop: Rogue City, which launched at the beginning of this month.
>According to publisher, they’ve seen a player count of over 435,000 players over the past two weeks and 2.7 million active game sessions during this time frame.
How the FRICK did they do it bros?
Soul and passion
Fpbp
It's genuinely heartwarming to see Teyon go from shovelware to a dogshit Rambo game to an ok Terminator game to a legitimately good Robocop game
the Terminator game was exactly as good as the Robocop game: solid 7/10 shooters for clueless normalgays, 11/10 fanservice for movie geeks
fingers crossed that Teyon's next game is Predator, Starship Troopers, or Jurassic Park
RobertCop is way better than Resistance even if you're not a fan, at least you get a straight forward over the top shooter instead of some homosexual crafting stealth wannabe where you're a b***h the whole game
The mc of Resistance takes down Terminators single-handedly and got to clap resistance girl cheeks. Jacob weren’t no b***h
I'm hoping for Total Recall
>How the FRICK did they do it bros?
It had the branding of an extremely popular movie.
If it wasn't called "Robocop" nobody would have noticed it.
Jesus you're naive.
Coz sales need to be absurdly high to be worthwhile these days. And they're also pushing things towards games as a "service".
If it wasn't called Robocop it would turn into a Ganker cult classic
>make a Robocop game
>delivers on what people want from Robocop
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
>
>Jesus you're naive.
Literally name any other revival of a 30 year old IP that's been done with the same amount of reverence
Absolute and unfiltered soul, I hope these lads only get better ORGANICALLY, don’t ever fall for the investors fundings trap that CDPR fell for, now that company is filled with diversity hires while all the actual talent left.
Why did the industry move away from using SALES as a number and latched on to player counts and sessions as an indicator of success?
When moneymen realized GAAS was higher potential money than box sales. These days you need sustained player investment because the more people are actively playing the more people there are to sell microtransactions to.
games as a service and microtransactions
companies make way more money from mtx than they ever did from sales. they don't even make that much money from regular users buying mtx either, it's all from whales/addiction.
>more players = more potential whales
I am going to kill them
The new cod is bragging about hours per player being the highest ever
which actually just means it's a clear flop, a sign that the hardcore addicts all brought it but the more casual masses didn't
Consistently landing goldmine 80's IPs is half responsible for their success. If these games were standalone OC people probably wouldnt even bat an eye and it would quickly get forgotten.
Robocop isn't exactly at the forefront of popular culture at the moment
They crowdfunded a giant robocop bronze statue for detroit off of redditors. Reddit constantly gushes about how Robocop is the best anti-capitalist movie ever made because it shows how evil and dumb capitalists are and since its 80's nostalgia it always has had a sleeping fanbase irregardless of reddit
>about how Robocop is the best anti-capitalist movie ever made because it shows how evil and dumb capitalists are
The ‘’’’’’’real meaning’’’’’’’’ behind the movie is completely insignificant for the masses, the common person just wanted to see the robotic cop man avenge his own death back then. Redditors vouching for what Edward Newumier meant with it is only a fraction of what RoboCop fans took away from watching the movie, no wonder the second movie has a completely creative team behind it, doubling down on the basic cop vs. criminals scenes without much thought behind it.
Nukem.
If Robocop put he knee on Floyd's neck, his head would literally pop off.
>he knee
DO NOT REDEEM
>one singular typo
reddit will always try to hijack fanbases
this game releasing reminded me to rewatch it for the first time since college, goddamn it's so good. a movie with a title like "Robocop" has no business being as good as it is.
>Robocop isn't exactly at the forefront of popular culture at the moment
>really good game comes out
>robocop documentary out of no where
>robocop commercials a few years back
>random robocop retrospectives being pushed on youtube
>"robo wants an oreo" goes viral
i'm thinking we're back.
Time for Robocop 3 remake: this time not shit edition
Also if you're a /toy/soldier, there are tons of great Robocop figures right now. On the low end, you have NECA bullshit, they just released an Ultimate Robocop that comes with the maintenance chair; they also re-released their ED-209. Then on the higher end you have Mafex, which has released numerous Robocop figures, including two figures recently that feature the licensed face of Peter Weller. Additionally, chinkshit manufacturer Hiya Toys has made a lot of 1/18th scale figures, and is apparently making a 1/12th scale figure with a metal body, though no one has seen them promote it in quite a while.
Not necessarily, successful IPs of the past can’t carry themselves without an accompanying major campaign on their favor. Their previous game, Terminator, initially went completely under the radar since their reputation back then was not only lacking but also tarnished due the shitty Rambo game, it took word of mouth to sway people on their favor and see how surprisingly better they got with developing Terminator.
When Robocop got announced there were more people already in the known about it being made by the same devs as Terminator, thus it immediately raised expectations for the game, which once again got spread by word of mouth after the demo.
I liked the game but the big boss enemies were just annoying instead of fun tbh, even with good gun upgrades. The battles with multiple enemies were better
One of the problems is that the game seems balanced around the other guns sometimes, but no player is actually going to switch off of the Auto 9.
I've barely used the auto-9 and usually grab and SMG or AK off dead enemies
AK eats through armored targets
Dunno what are you talking about, but Auto-9 with no reload + full auto melts everything in seconds, even the last boss
did these guys unironically create a new shooting genre? tank and gun
>what's your name son?
>"robert"
fricking perfect ending
>Nice shootin', son. What's your name?
>Y-y-you too...
Sounds like bullshit. No chance it sold over 50k
scenes where it was OK for a man to cry at
MY HAGWIFE
the anti-corporate/consumerist "message" is just surface-level trimming for comedy, the fundamental point of the film is the Christ-allegory of Murphy's resurrection and the repudiation of solipsism and the Theseus' Ship paradox
the crux of the film is summed up in the film's final line: "Murphy." - Alex Murphy was always there, just hidden by the mechanical shell
Several points of continuity with Robocop 3 have been retconned away, such as the Old Man being alive and working out of Japanese headquarters, whereas he is very clearly dead in the game
ignoring robocop 3 and perfectly nailing the tonal whiplash between humor and disgust at the state of the world:
unfortunately they didn't ignore 3, the whole game was made to fill in the gaps between 2 and 3 like anyone gave a shit, even ends with the Jap company coming to buy out OCP
i've only played the first few hours but I don't really mind that
I actually like the concept for 3, with OCP getting bought out and mass evictions to build delta city, it's more an issue of execution.
I think 3 fails more because it's not funny, it's not violent, it doesn't have Weller, and it's generally just shitty, but the concept isn't terrible.
They can just remake 3 and make it actually good as a game.
>Made the worst Rambo game ever made
>Made the best Terminator game ever made
>Made the best Robocop game ever made and actually made a profit
What’s next for Teyon, Ganker?
Predator I bet, but I already want another Robocop where they shore up some of the flaws in this one
None of that is a high bar to pass. You could have given the licenses to any no name dev and the still end up with "the best ever made."
Commando. The game starts with John Matrix's military career then the events of the Commando movie.
Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Let them do another Rambo game just so they can come full circle.
Alternatively a Cobra or a Demolition Man game would be neat
>another Rambo game
>inspired by MGSV
They'd better
the game is crap, deal with it
its fricking over boomer boy
>RoboCRAP: ROUGE TITTY
I want them to make a single player Predator game next but I can't decide between the Predator or human pov. Both can work. Either trying to hunt down this thing and keep your squad alive or another power fantasy fricking soldiers up.
there are several good games where you get the full Predator pov experience - there are no good games where you get the full "army man hunted by a predator" experience
every AVP game lets you do everything you expect when playing the Predator campaign, but when you're playing the marine, you're always focused primarily on the xenomorphs because there's a lot of those you can shoot and only one or two predators, that's just the nature of the setting - as a result I'd prefer any potential Predator game to take the position of the human being hunted
Robo wants oreos.
I HAVEN'T GOT A DAMN CLUE ABOUT RANDY MOORE AND HIS FRICKIN OREOS
>demo is fun
>millenial water cooler discussion
>?????
>profit
That looks sick as frick.
It's like a mix of God Hand as an FPS and Grim Fandango
some big factors :
-the presence of original actors including the excellent voice acting of Robocop
-the original music of the movie which is amazing as well
-inclusion of stuff from the movie which is both cool in and of itself and nostalgic like the aiming green shit
-the 80s vibe with moronic bad guys etc which is pretty noice
all this stuff comes from the past, back when stuff was actually good
>make good game
>game does good
woah, more devs shoud follow this idea
It's more profitable to make shit games with 90% of the budget spent on marketing to bait children and low IQ subhumans into rebuying the same game every year.
I hope Nacon sent Weller a gift basket of Oreos
it looks like any other fps game, what does it differently?

Same as their Terminator game, its a massive love letter to the franchise they're making a game of.
i didn't even know there was a terminator game. Seriously, explain from the beginning what's different and unique.
NTA but does a game need to be 'different and unique' to be good?
No I'm just wondering why a completely unremarkable fps is standing out so much. Bg3 stood out because it revived dynamic story events and crpgs. This just looks like any other fps just painted like RoboCop
I guess that's nice? So it's just RoboCop. But that's all?
So it's basically a tanky shooter like an old school arcade? Movement isn't even a factor, you're just tanking shots and shooting enemies?
I'm not talking shit I'm really curious. I got a lot of indie FPS games that fall under surreal and experimental and I'm scratching my head at RoboCop getting so much attention.
>Bg3 stood out
Outed yourself already
>zoomie doesn't "get it"
Many such cases!
Dude... Those heckin' pixels have lives and families. Like, you should be put on a list or something.
Bitches leave
Cyberpunk "gameplay" montage when?
No one says they are different and unique. They are pretty standard FPS games but the devs put a lot of work into being true to the source material. Not just references and easter eggs, but sound, designs, even the feel.
>its a massive love letter to the franchise
fricking hilarious that morons still spew this shit even when they got super lazy with robocop and didn't bother getting iconic sound effects right.
people explode into goo real nice
not exactly new ideas but a very interesting implementation that goes against a lot of modern vidya conventions
you can't crouch
you can't jump
there's no cover system
you're reliant on regen health but the game throws masses of enemies at you (and lods e explosives) so you have to balance incoming dps against your regen
you're slow as shit but there's a dash you can get for 2 skill points that sends you forward 20 feet in an instant and bashes enemies in your path
it has FEAR style slomo also available for 2 points
there's an old school delineation of enemy types which ramp up over time. so far i've seen dudes with pistols or SMGs in the beginning, then adding armored targets with AKs, shotguns, grenade launchers, and guys who call in waves of reinforcements if you don't eliminate them fast enough
also this. gore effects are awesome, the weapon tech tree makes them even more over the top, and there's different death animations/sound effects depending on where you shoot enemies
the skill tree sucks though.
>the graffiti artists hate you
Wait... did this outsell Alan Wake 2?
alan wake 2 wasn't in the top 150 games by concurrent players when it came out. robo cop was.
>alan wake 2 wasn't in the top 150 games by concurrent players when it came out.
Maybe because it wasn't on that platform at all, genius
the list is from xbox series s, x, and ps5. moron.
?t=1754
didn’t play it because I’m still on last gen but I’m happy for them, it looks like a really good game
Did the Old Man deserve what this game does to him?
they tried to reconcile the wildly different personalities he had between 1 and 2, but why on God's green flat earth did they put him in fricking Robocain's body instead of a pristine high end body like Murphy? (And give him such a godawful actor)???
>but why on God's green flat earth did they put him in fricking Robocain's body instead of a pristine high end body like Murphy?
I think they were strapped for time and all they had was Robocaine's body. I think the initial plan was Old man was hoping that the Afterlife project was going to work out, but the end of that project was that it was going to take 100 or so years to reach what they were selling.
I have a feeling that a lot of the story best the end got cut and the Cain was moved to be the last boss.
Old Man's brain was put into Robocain's shell for 2 reasons
1. he died before they planned and they had to put him into something and RC2 was the only functional thing on hand
2. because everybody involved wanted to see Murphy and Cain fight it out again and play it instead of watching it
It’s time for Nacon to make the Judge Dredd game
So in Simon Page's office you see a high school photo dated 2014. We can assume this is Simon Page's own photo from his school days suggesting that Robocop really does take place quite far into the future. The original screenplay said it was the year 1995 and the arcade game said 1990. Come to find out, according to the novelization, Robocop takes place in fricking 2044, because Sylvester Stallone's death is announced on Mediabreak and he's 97 years old at the time of death.
Make a game from an IP that people love and don't frick it up or inject modern nonsense into it
>It sells great
I dont know you tell me
>inject modern nonsense into it
having Lewis get shot and replaced with a Miles Morales lookalike felt almost forced, but I didn't mind cause Murphy goes from simply ignoring him to teaching him how to be a real cop, and the setting was already very diverse
if only more games had good writing instead of blatant virtue shilling
I mean Detroit has a ton of black people in it. I'm actually surprised there isn't more.
Why did they even give Robo the ability to smile
PR with the public?
I suppose that could've been the idea, but I seriously doubt he would've ever done it, not before Murphy's personality resurfaced at least.
ROBO WANTS AN OREO
murphy. want. slurpy.
>How the FRICK did they do it bros?
Viral marketing. Nacon owns Spiders and other shitty French devs that all make the same game just reskinned. Notoriously basically the past 3 Spiders releaases were very clearly viraled. They market to the same morons with hard right rhetoric (their companies politics). Greedfall? dood colonialism kek epic white characters only boiz! the viral around robocop has been basically identical.
You don't belong here, brownoid.
Bitches leave
MAD AS FRICK LOL
do you work for a competing games studio across the street? Is that why you're this booty blasted?
The shilling for Greedfall was so obvious multiple threads were deleted for it. Too bad the same didn't happen with this shit.
Inb4 robocop oreo commercials campaign.
>How the FRICK did they do it bros?
Make a licensed game that respects the source material. Don't overcharge for the product you are delivering. Make an actually fun video game.
>that guy who posted his moron Robocop = shit thread every day for a month with the same image
hahah good job moron
Giving what people always wanted in movie-based games... to have a game that makes you feel like you're in the movie.
Why does Robocop's head grow and shrink randomly?
Yours doesn't?
Nice game release kiddo, what's your name?
Teyon.
>Boomers like Robocop, the original not the fricking modern israeli robocop
>Boomers have disposable income
Robocop ain't Hyenas or Redfall
If by boomers you mean 30 year old boomers then yeah. actual boomers don't play videogames and they only liked robocop as a cool action flick and not for the satirical masterpiece that it is.

>that time the canadians made a trilogy of movies that put a Black person in a black robocop suit and had him save the day
It helps to have genuine passion and a love and respect for the source material. These guys weren't trying to make a AAA multi-million dollar smash hit mega blockbuster game. They just wanted to make a good enough Robocop game that fans would like.
They didn't go woke.
Robocop doesn't have a black woman bossing him around and showing him up.
It does have a young black man yapping in his ear most of the game though.
ALL I WANT TO DO IIIIS
ALL I WANT TO DO IS NUUUUUKE
Should they do a sequel or move onto another franchise? Given Weller's age a sequel might be tennous.
The Old man did nothing wrong, he was just surrendered by morons and incompetent idiots
You say this as if it wasn't already well known
The game is very good. I'm a Robocop fan and it's great.
