This. They took all the fun out of the original Gamma and Knuckles missions in Adventure. Making the mech missions slow and clunky and getting rid of the radar that finds every emerald piece in whatever order.
Both are leagues better than they ever were in SA1, and in the case of Tails, also better than Gamma.
Knuckles is just lazily plopped in subsections of Sonic levels with emeralds in the most obvious spots with a radar system that is not built for it at all, and your free dead giveaway button in the form of Tikal that points you to the emerald with no punishment attached. His campaign is unironically worse than Big the Cat's, and I could say the same for Tails and Amy's campaigns.

Not only would hating those 3 missions be awful taste, but no rational person would NOT say Mad Space.
Mad Space is no bigger than Pumpkin Hill and no more difficult.
I always thought Iron Gate was a pretty lame mission, especially to start the Dark side with.
best mission to farm chaos drives though. You could get 10 in like the first 20 seconds.
What? Crazy Gadget and Mad Space are both way worse than any of these.
I really don't hate any of the levels in this game though.

the only shitty part of pyramid cave is the key part. everything else about it is great.
meteor herd (and mad space) is easy to traverse. dont be a baddy. literally the pyramid treasure hunting stages are the worst of them, because getting around takes longer.
all shooting levels are pretty jank. they arent entirely bad inherently, but they dont belong in a sonic game.

No. Only bad stage is pyramid cave and crazy gadget. Mad space isn't even that hard I have no idea how it filtered people. Mission Street is just very mid. It doesn't last long enough to actually annoy you.
I was stuck on Crazy Gadget for forever when I was a dumb kid, but I don't see the issue with it anymore. It's fun. Just difficult to figure out that final room when you're young and moronic.

I didn’t know chao could fart until today
It's funny, I've replayed SA2 multiple times but never got around to playing the first game. Then I went around and finished it and... that's it? It's completely worse than 2 in every single way. SA2 music is better overall, much better models and animations, and stages worse than SA2 (big fishing is awful, tails is way too easy, knuckles was underdeveloped, amy too slow). I know it's a late 90s game full of campiness but it was still a bit disappointing, especially the finale which they could have made way cooler.
