3 is a really great game, 5 has a lot of customization, 7 is too easy but I enjoy the system and the plot, 6 has the best plot and characters but it's kinda of a boring game full of shitty obscure missable requirements for useless relics and too many character systems, frick Gau, 2 is nice for the difficult and dungeon crawling, 9 is a well rounded game but also full of shitty pointless systems, 4 has a nice plot but regardless of which version you play the game system system is just too broken, 1 is not really that interesting as a game and 8 is the just a broken mess full of pointless shit

    >V
solid, but i don't like random battles. also another plus for this is the job system. i think FF games are usually better when they have a job system, or something similar.
    >VI
good narrative, lots of characters to choose from, interesting secrets/side stuff, but i'm still pretty turned off by random battles. i don't like this game, but i get why people like it.
    >VII
great ideas, some of which are iconic. great character designs. story is mangled due to bad translation. the materia system is one of the best ideas they've had. but, i'm still not a jarpig person so... with mods, you can have a significantly better experience. of all the games in this list, i'd have to say this is the one i'm most likely to play--with a shitload of mods.
    >VIII
absolute garbage. the story is nonsense and even when you do understand the story it's one of the stupidest ideas they've ever had. it's my understanding the junction system can be fun if you know how to deal with it, but i think square would've fared much better if they just built on what they'd done previously rather than throwing it out for the sake of being different.
    >IX
i've tried to get into this multiple times, but i just can't do it. none of the characters are appealing, other then quina, but quina is the joke character, so.... it's like finding all the secrets in a quake map and not being able to find the exit. battle system is okay. absolutely zero interest in the story. i just can't get into it. oh, and vivi is cool. steiner had some amusing moments.

FF games aren't my cup of tea, but i've given most of them an honest try since they have such a rabid fanbase. just not my thing.

Haven't played much of the rest.
12 is the best one. 10 is the worst.

Due to the repedative combat only 12/15 are playable for newer generations.

    Combat replacement:
    7
Enemies attack faster the longer you wait in between actions. Attacking costs health.
    R1 - Slash
    R2 - Magic
Holding still does a area magic attack, high power, button presses then hold denotes type of attack/heal.
Combining and timing attacks makes them more effective eg pressing slash and then pressing it again as soon as it finishes costs less health.
L1 dash forward, slash at close to enemynotherwise incur damage from hitting enemy. Also dashes back/cancels attack
L2 hold to sheild, press to parry.
Swap to another character after incurring more than half health loss. Put in a line, going to the back after a turn, gaining health from other partybnembers successful attacks. Putting all members in action elininates that healing and requires a larger area from magic to heal characters. Summons require all characters to be at limit break.

    FF8
    Squal/Seifer
R1 press fire down sides of gunblade at enemy where pointing.
R1 hold (then press) to Slash, slashing again during slash makes a ressonance/explosion which does more damage. Can do it up to 5/6 times, but each time doubles the damage you will receive if hit, successful explosions stun, the faster you press R2/the faster it's depressed the faster the slash.
R2 by itself without slash draw magic
R1 + R2 away from enemy dodge right
    L1 reload
L2 need to press alternately to reload successfully/with extra damage.
All 4 at once to use magic. Number of presses increases amount of magic uses. Hold for summon.
    Zell
    L1 left punch
    R1 right ""
A green tint on either side of the screen denotes which handed punch is most effective, they get shorter with combo length.
    L2 block left
    Red tint etc.

Turns on a timer. 3 seconds per turn, increased by attacking, so stay close. Each attack gives half as much time as the last.

    Quitis
R1+R2 whip Let go R2 then

2 just doesn't have a great gimmick because the gimmick leveling is obtuse compared to materia in 7, jobs in 1/3/5. It doesn't have a story to set itself apart from 1 and 3, let alone 4 or 6. Outside of the obfuscated leveling system there isn't much of a hook to the game
      >Filtering means I don't like the game
Filtering means a game is hard and you quit, not that you finish it and were underwhelmed.

Having to do the same thing 100 times to level up that stat, with these counts never displayed, yeah that's obtuse. Do you think people just intuitively figured out "you have to do it 100 times"?

If you want that character to pursue that spell or weapon it only makes sense to continually use it. If you're ten hours into the game I hope something clicked in your head that your actions in battle had some sort of influence in your growth.

I know it seems like a mundane and almost standard thing now, but FF4 invented the ATB gauge. It was a new thing that nobody else had made by 1991. In fact, Square patented it when they created FF4. FF8 had its junction system, obviously. 9 had its equipment learning system.

    New FF:

Midjourney AI characters. Eg Balenciaga etc youtube videos. Make models of them, make sprites of them. A hundred or so per animation frame, covering all observable angles. A large portion of RAM used for sprites. Main characters having the most animations by far. The more animated something is the more attention you should give to it.

Sprites cull occluded geometry and effects.

    Sprites higher res than world.
World very low res, blurred. Explained by character reserving attention for other characters, a weakness, but part of their role.

3D world aiming at similarly impressive idealism. Made from ai as well. Scale important, characters suiting but dwarfed by immensity of world. Always with the sense what you see is a small portion. Though you're led to essential parts for your progression.

When you're watched, world represented with animated 2D backgrounds. Animations seperate to scene so they can be randomised (non repedative).
Some sections composed at high storage cost. Scenes, generated or hand drawn, or both, existant in 3D but far too costly to render. Represented instead by an array of spheres. Able to look around/move camera to any pont in them, and move through them. A lot would be requrired as well as effective interpolation between frames and per pixel motion blur. Seamless. Performance cost would be reduced then so more given to effects. Reserved for boss fights, and special moments designed to overwhelm you.

Story is you're left to find your purpose. A state expected of success or excess. You've slaved away. Now you find what for.

Apparently all isn't well. An anti aging virus is changing. People are sent away as soon as they show signs from scans, as not to spread the new variants.

The more you interact the further away you're cast.

Far enough from what you knew as heaven people are having children. Considered lesser pursuits.

You find out you're infecting them with the solution. A means to stop them increasing the population.

Keep some regularly used sprites in ram, eg from behind main char.

Load silhouetes of sprites. Silhouetes used to cull and determine which pixels of sprite need to be loaded, eg size (sparcity) and unoccluded. Scene composed while sprites arrive, streamed in. Sprites have around 16 ms(60fps) or 32ms (30fps) to arrive. As they do they're assigned to cover their silhouettes and post processing frame interpolation and/or motion blur is applied, as not to show jumps in position due to inadequate framerate or sprite angle/animation.

Will have to rely on post processing as sprites even with effective compression rapidly consume space. While not costing too much per frame, many have to exist ready on storage to cover many angles and animations.

Sprites should be too good for system to render in real time, raising the quality of the environment, but could be used as a performance saving measure, with 3D models being used when storage size is insufficient.

If storage wasn't so limited, and read (transfer) times were faster world could be streamed in as 2D spheres. A lot of them needed. An online requirement to load them from servers and other user systems could expand the world size and quality.

Connected systems could also serve in the creation of world and assets, for ai and artists, during downtime or even during play.

SSDs can't be written to repeatedly unfortunately otherwise game data could be made 2D and deleted when replaced with more used or relevant data.

Getting the hardware to keep as much as possible 2D allows for more action and effects on screen. More physics.

A high framerate should be enforced, for playability and turning while in a sphere is not limited by framerate. Motion of characters and movement in any direction requires blur to maintain the perception of it all as 3D, but turning can be immune from that. Data sufficient. And spheres will need to be complete to scrutinise the world while still.

Additional platter hard drives could be used. System rendering the world then saving it as spheres, updating them with more strucrure and detail, or rendering areas ahead. Unloading ram to them so the same operation doesn't have to be done again.

Revisited areas can have more going on in them, Or hardware simply allowed to cool, ready for bursts in demand that push it.
Storage on a platter hard drive has abysmal read speeds, but the area data can be sequential. Discs could offer prerendered/photographed/composed areas as well, and work in unison with hard drives to meet streaming requirements.

Also movement may be at a lower framerate than turning. Turning (looking around) should be at the highest a display is capeble of.

Input should be a constant stream from the looking mechanisim. With everything else (input wise) made a much lower priority, sent as interupts to the look stream at intervals that don't deteriorate the look stream, where interupting input it generated based on previous information (and possibly after). No skips/stutter.

Infertility is the cost. Some kids ask you if they shouldn't exist. You turn into a father figure. Find out something is lost without a fresh start in focus. Intimacy is more intelectual where you're from. Complexity way past the heights capeble of a child. A platau of perfection. You seek to protect your kids's perspective. The optimism under which they create another world you start believing in yourself.
You meet former friends out to find you, every individual valued in eternity, company is an investment, part of them with you. Enough of you in them to help understand your relation to a new generation. Help to have them access suitable systems and sectors. Know like you a demand for their own world. Raising without replacing.
But it doesn't feel you can go any higher. Not without risk.
Their need forces you toward a death. Delay too much of it.

You go to uncharted lands. And find the next step in becoming a better variant of what you are and meant to be, a saviour.

Kids, and legends rebuild you to carry on extending the ceiling.

There have been consistent trends I've noticed in these threads over the years. Probably the most interesting one is that people who love FF5 frequently rate FF8 as their most hated game and people who rate FF8 highly usually rate FF5 near or at the bottom.

2 and 3 are widely considered shit, 1 and 4 are usually in the middle, and 7 and 6 are almost always near the top. 8 and 9 are complete wildcards and they're all over the place.

For replayability I much prefer 4,5 and 6 over all of the others. 4 is my personal favourite, probably because it was my first RPG.

The only final fantasy game I've ever played was 4 and it fricking sucked.

    >b-but muh epic story

The moon and dwarf world was cool but the whole thing can basically be summed up as

    >character sacrifices themselves to save their friends
    >dies
    >....OR DO THEY???
    >repeat x5

Also I hate the active battle system and the constant removing of party members when they start to get fun.

    Best: Dragon Quest 1-11
    Worst: Final Fantasy 1-16
