Really, really wanted to like this and made multiple attempts. But I just can't get into it. It's just boring, I'm sorry, but it is. Is the second game any better or just more of the same? A couple of the party members were pretty based but I've dropped it like 4 seperate times now and it's just not gonna happen.

>Realize its kino

Stockholm syndrome
Nah. I was just getting filtered by the first town and Raedric's Hold, never reaching Maerwald because everything felt boring as frick. Its only after that does the plot actually starts developing properly.
>Its only after that does the plot actually starts developing properly
Anon, I...
While it's true that the main story arc only really starts after meeting Maerwald, I don't get it how one can get filtered by the 1st chapter and then get in the game by the 2nd
IMO 1st chapter is pretty strong and probably one of the strongest parts of the game (as soon as the tutorial section is over that is)
>gilded vale oozes with atmosphere
>you get your first bros in the party
>you get a proper dungeon
>explore wilderness just like in muh BG1 and meet more bros
>chapter ends with another dungeon
>raedric's offers a nice detour as well with branching paths, a cool dungeon level and bretty chilling story
although I usually go for the later after clearing the stronghold
*hides thread*
I beat it once when it came out, and since then, I've probably restarted it and played half of it and dropped it two dozen times. Only successfully finished a replay once. It always seems like a good idea to replay it but then it's just boring and I give up.
Played the second game once and beat it. It does have better gameplay, but the plot and writing and characters all still suck. Never gotten around to replaying it because I'd have to slog all the way through PoE again.
Gameplay is better, still boring the dlcs are good. Both games. Ending are very bad.
what possesses people to make multiple threads on the same game on a board that gets a post an hour? this isn't even relevant to the game, who makes a thread just to say "I don't like thing" without even explaining why? Jesus fricking christ what is wrong with you lazy idiots?
First day?
just curious because I'm too lazy to israelitegle who araragi is, is this from fireforce? also, I agree with you. it's frustrating we can't get actual dialogue here but the hundreds of bbc-demoralization threads each week on pol get full paragraphs between anons.
how can you browse Ganker and not have watched the greatest anime ever

I found the combat dull, but I also dropped it well before understanding how it works so maybe its just me.
I have no problem with walls of text but once again there was something that felt very slow, maybe too many walls of text are just... Too many? Or maybe its because of how they are written, formatted, and placed around.
But what I can say something positive is that the atmosphere was pretty good
>Is the second game any better or just more of the same?
Deadfire is even more boring
the combat is better, but everything else, especially the pacing, just sucks
Sure PoE is mediocre, but is it really worse than the homebrew systems found in DOS or the awful campaign and encounter design in Pathfinder? Its certainly not worse written. I say this as someone who thinks PoE is hilariously schlocky and not on purpose. Let's be logical here.
Yes, its worse
I like pathfinder, had to drop pillars 4 hours in
I think PotD PoE is more interesting than Kingmaker unfair which is just boring slavjank for redditors. In fact PotD should have probably been normal difficulty, not sure what they were thinking there.
>I like pathfinder, had to drop pillars 4 hours in
That really is more of a testament on your taste than quality of the games
Yeah, it signals I have decent enough taste to immediately feel disgusted upon seeing magic not scaling with int because the devs thought they were real smart and subversive.
If you didn't immediately feel revulsion upon seeing the might based mage, you have bad taste
>subversive
Oh, it's the resident shizo
Go on then
>You can't use that word!
I don even know which schizo you are talking about
I just expressed my distaste fo changing things for no other reason than to feel different
>I don even know which schizo you are talking about
anon it's you lol
I bet it's possible to pinpoint your posts with some word/theme frequency analysis
>anon it's you lol
I come here once every few months when I'm in the mood for CRPGs, I highly doubt it's "me", you are just paranoid
Reality is that bare minimum effort is all it takes for a CRPG to btfo 90% of all other CRPGs in terms of combat. The only reason why that effort isn't put in is because the genre is so niche that a cult is maintained only around the "canonized" combat mechanics and PoE/Tyranny/DAO style spiritual homebrews that take away the dice are the blackest of heretics. That's why Total Turn-Based Victory is so good - RtwP is forever tainted by the inherited shittyness of ADnD and Infinity Engine/
I will take a shitty rtwp game with a ultra-restrictive donut steel version of dnd over a turn-based AP glue eater game with mmo cooldowns. While turn based is ultimately better this does not equate to turn based being universally good.
OS1 with EE mod was a lot more fun than PoE.
No, DOS has an excellent engine mirroring a modern day ultima but DOS is environmentally, narratively, and mechanically is just poison and an absolutely irredeemable snooze.
No.
Yes, DOS is a moron game.
White March is kino but everything else mediocre
I liked the Endless Paths of Caed Nua
that megadungeon was way better then the rest of the base game
The world building just feels so uninspired and by the numbers.
And I hate when they make your main character the chosen one.
Couldn't get into Pathfinder either.
And BG3 is gay gay dogshit.
got filtered by
>the overly verbose flavor text
>le balance man making literally every stat equally good for every class so character building felt directionless
>the player stronghold being a massive constant distraction from the main game
My favorite approach for stat building in PoE was to leave every stat at 10 and pick two 18s. No dump stats but choose a focus for each character. Always felt reasonable to me. Wizards I always used for control and interrupt over raw damage so I never made muscle wizards but per and int. Resolve id always use on a paladin MC for conversation options, some quests you can’t get a good ending to without resolve.
PoE is still a meh game and I usually get bored and drop it halfway, but I still think it had some okay ideas (if not execution)
>le balance man making literally every stat equally good for every class so character building felt directionless
that just kinda you admitting to not being able to come up with a direction for a char if you aren't outright given a "any char of class X needs A and B and the rest can be dumped"
>the player stronghold being a massive constant distraction from the main game
for real? that's probably some of the least intrusive side-mechanics in any crpg with meaningful side mechanics
homie literally just pick an option from time to time
>inb4 it's not meaningful
the main mechanic gives you per-rest buffs in a game without pre-buffing, it's meaningful
especially on harder difficulties
Man I kinda want to replay it now bros...
Frick it, I'm doing it bros
as soon as I'm done with current yearly Deus Ex playthrough
>RPG players have been clamouring for a classic RPG that isn't just a Middle-Earth rip-off; that takes itself seriously, isn't filled with quips and jokes, and isn't your standard Medieval affair.
>Get exactly what they asked for.
>"It's boring! Where are my quips and giant miniature space hamsters?"
Also reminder that 95% of the "info dumps" are optional dialogue choices which you can just skip. Too bad that the "phrases are links to separate explanations" wasn't implemented until Tyranny.
>Game beats you over the head constantly that you're the epic chosen one that will change the land FOREVER or until the next game anyway
>Party member personalities range from semi serious but lighthearted good guy to off their rocker sexist maniac
>At least one party member quips or catchphrases in background and story dialogue every time
Yeah they're really breaking the mold with the pillars series huh?
>You're the chosen one.
Just by this I know you've never played. Literally one of the first thing you do is meet another Watcher, with the same gifts that you have, and witness first-hand this "gift" will sooner or later drive you insane.
Yeah, it's not an argument no matter how much you think you can cherry pick your way to making a point. You're the chosen one, you have a special ability that drives the story forward that no other party member has. That's it, that's all it takes to be the Gary stu of the game.
You know neither what the "Chosen One" nor "Gary Stu" tropes entail. You're just flailing them about like a cudgel after being proven wrong.
>off their rocker sexist maniac
why are you such a homosexual?
Yes, second game is overall a better game, but first has some better ideas but not well executed
Unpopular truth:
Obsidian does (or at least did) their best work when held on a leash and working on an established ip made by someone else so they have some real meat to subvert and don't get too tangled in their own heads.
This was a bitter pill to swallow but you know it's the truth. They are excellent at making derivative products with twists but not doing anything truly original.
And for the same money: they also work best when working on someone else's system & engine.
A real unpopular truth:
KOTOR2 and New Vegas are terrible goyslop for tweens that deserve absolutely no praise and ought to die off already.
It's not 2021 anymore, it's hip to hate on new vegas again.
Good, rpgs are healing.
I will choose not to insult you here filthy Mahiro poster. As I don’t care about these games. Looks like no one is going to go for your bait.
Also cease avatar posting, it is against the rules.
Haven't seen that much love for KOTOR2 in a while, the franchise is pretty much dead for anyone that's not an absolute consoomer. New Vegas is in this weird !troony!-accusation limbo that seems to mostly come from bethesdrones that has nothing to do with the original game but just some weird obsidiot-bethesdrone shitflinging. I remember throughoutly enjoying New Vegas when it came out, especially on that "hardcore mode" or whatever. Dead Money was pretty good too. Haven't played it in a while so it might have aged badly, dunno.
As for trannies, they should get psychiatric help and (non-hormone) medication.
Can't wait for when fallout 5 has gender neutral pronouns to give yourself
with pathfinder and bg3 as the modern way crpgs are done, poe doesn't look that bad. we treated in unfairly.
PoE did all it could to pave the way for that same cancer. If anything, poe should be judged more harshly.
What dnd games do you like? Name all of them.
no
Thought so.
king
That's the thing. DnD is dogshit for adapting it to video games with the sole exception of maybe 4E
Nah, once we determine that you don't like any dnd games we can easily deduce that you only play dogshit and your opinion doesn't matter.
Lol
He's not wrong.
I know I'm nta
I like both POE games but the new companions in 2 are insufferable.
Honestly, in every single party based RPG, I just can’t stand any of the companions anymore. I exclusively play with generics that I roll up myself.
Eder is a bro. Aloth is OK. The rest I roll my own.
Eder is a terrible character.
I disagree, but I respect your opinion.
*hits pipe*
heh what's up buddy I have the personality of a 2x4, now listen to me get blazed out and calmly tell you about war crimes and how much I love petting dogs
Tobacco isn't weed, anon
There is no tobacco in the setting that I am aware of. It's heavily implied he is smoking whiteleaf.
>Whiteleaf is derived from the whiteleaf weed, which is commonly found throughout the Dyrwood and Eir Glanfath. Locals dry and smoke the plant, which grants a feeling of calm alongside an intense lethargy.
So yes, Eder is literally just a generic stoner guy.
I disagree, and I think your opinion is objectively wrong and moronic
I agree and also I'm your dad
So even if they're not the best, would 1 and 2 plus all the DLC still be worth the 20 it's currently at for the steam sale?
It's really fricking boring dude. Not even the walls of text it's just plain and feels done before. If you have a high tolerance for slow burns go for it.
If you’re in a drought and really want to play a CRPG, twenty bucks for both games isn’t a bad deal. I’m not a huge fan of either game but I’ve definitely gotten my moneys worth out of both of them. People here are too quick to shit on everything to prove how smart and tasteful they are.
Yeah it's fine, I've played way worse shit for $20. Don't play this unless you're scraping the barrel, though.
If you like crpgs that's a fricking steal
they're the best non-indy crpgs released in over a decade so yes
If that's true than the crpg genre is in a sad state
look at who is making crpgs. Yes.
>feeling sad that other players still get enjoyment out of playing video games
Frick of greefers
>mmm this slop is delicious xer may i please have another
Yes.
Frick off now
Shut up you apologists are only making the genre continue to stagnate. Makes me sick there are people like you that enable devs to have no reason to innovate.
>b-buh it not that bad!
Just frick off and die. I could literally crush your skull with my bare hands, so sick of these generic storylines and settings.
Holy BASED
You could at least wait more than a couple of minutes before samegayging so it's not that obvious.

PoE games are the most mechanically refreshing still, after what.. is it 8 years now?
>PoE games are the most mechanically refreshing
They literally took the IE formula and made it worse so it's gonna be a disagree from me champ.
Whoa there, let's be reasonable. PoE isn't nearly as dumb as bg2.
Even in vanilla the spell interactions are way more interesting in bg than in poe, with scs it's not even a contest. And let's be real here: if you wanna go all-in on deeper gameplay you're gonna play with scs anyway.
>Even in vanilla the spell interactions are way more interesting in bg than in poe
Theoretical interactions are not important, BG1 is hasted archer death ball and BG2 is breach and hosted multi death ball, and SCS doubles down in the absolute worst parts of this so you're not even allowed to deviate from the poorly implemented wizard battle formula. BG is not IWD, it's a meme beginner game for casuals that cannot be fixed.
Poe was explicitly designed to be a meme beginner game for casuals. Which it is. And not only can it not be fixed, no one has even bothered to try because it's not even remotely worth it.
PoE is a meme game for casuals because it mirrors BG2. That no one has bothered to fix it should be indicative of the mindset of the handful of people clinging to SCS. Both PoE games have many difficulty mods, but people just tell you to play the games and move on because they aren't mentally ill, whereas the SCS moron goes "finally a game dumb enough for me to play, better milk this forever".
>PoE is a meme game for casuals
I stopped reading there. I'm happy we agree.
I don't think we are talking about the same things
What is a meme game in your opinion? What makes poe a meme game?
I disregarded the part about difficulty because poe has a wide range you can tune and I see nothing wrong with a game having story mode difficulty. Bg1/2 were piss easy even on harder difficulties, and vanilla bg2 is pretty much unplayable for veteran players because of the little challenge it provides. So?
The ultimate challenge in vanilla poe games on the other hand is one of the most difficult achievements in crpgs if that's what you're looking for
considering PoE got rid of prebuffing, pre-battle AoE spam into fog of war and unlimited rests your opinion is disregarded mate

SCS fans only play BG and no other RPGs. They have brain damage. I consider bg2 to be on the same level as skyrim. When you brag about scs bg2 it's like listening to someone brag about beating skyrim on legendary or whatever. It's simply an indicator that you have brain damage.
There are more straightforward ways to say "I got filtered" than what you wrote.
What is truly amazing, to me, is that the SCS moron was instantly baited into revealing himself as the one shitting up the thread and screeching about PoE. It is always this guy. Every thread you go into where someone is complaining about a game they have never played it is the SCS tard. Does BG2 cause brain damage? Maybe it is not a classic after all.
You actually have a bogeyman myth for someone who comes in and btfo's the same people who can't handle criticism?
This is hilarious.
It's not a boogeyman when you get baited into revealing yourself every time.
>You actually have a bogeyman myth for someone who comes in and btfo's the same people who can't handle criticism?
True communism has never been tried
This but unironically
I would strongly suggest you read Solzhenitsyns “200 Years Together”. If you are intellectually honest, it will open your eyes.

Personally, I am all for any political ideology that eradicates Europe. They simply cannot help but come and shit up this website, so there is no choice now. Take away their internet and send them to the bread lines, don't see chinks shitting up this site.
>don't see azns shitting up the boards
Maybe not boards like /vrp/ or even Ganker besides the gacha threads but you can mainly find those shitposters in Ganker and Ganker
Everywhere I look I see yuropoors and vatBlack folk ruining Ganker. Ganker should be American and Japan only. Make europeans wear a special mark so they cannot so easily disrupt and undermine discussion and people can filter them.

remember to give regards to /vrpg/ in your suicide note when you are shooting up your school, ok, my young and insecure edgy fren?
