There's not much depth to it, unlike a conventional Tamagotchi it can't die, it can just "run away" if left unattended for too long, but that's just a "minimum happiness" state which you can easily recover from.
The entire depth of the toy can be explained on one page.
Ironically, the toy wouldn't be legal to make these days due to the simulated gambling with a slots minigame.
The sequel device, the Pokémon Pikachu 2 GS, had significantly more features, a color display, and very significantly an IR communicator that would let it send watts over to Pokémon Gold and Silver, when played on a Game Boy Color with its own IR sensor port.
This concept would be revived with the Poké Walker for Heart Gold and Soul Silver, which was one of the best things about that game.
It was a fun toy. Pretty much what said. It had no connectivity with the Game Boy games unlike the sequel, but it had some great connectivity with the core culture at school (as cool toys did). You could shake it or walk to gain "Watts" to play slots or something, and Pika would be your friend. It also had some cool sound effects and (iirc) voices from the show.
>Ironically, the toy wouldn't be legal to make these days due to the simulated gambling with a slots minigame.
IIRC only in the UK
op pic was for gay kids
pic rel was for straight gigachads like me
Ah yes, the series where the male looking "Angemon" can evolve into the obviously female "Angewomon" and in the show at one point had Renamon claim "Digimon have no gender" is clearly the one for straight gigachads.
>IIRC only in the UK
I think more of a PEGI thing which isn't limited to the UK, but one market having laws or regulations like this has a knock-on effect in other territories and regions where the product is intended for sale.
The Pokémon Pikachu 2 GS would've also been effected as it had a card mini-game, a simple "high/low" game, but still a card game with wagering.
It first affected the Pokémon series with Platinum version, where the slot machines were completely removed from the European releases.
Then it continued with Heart Gold/Soul Silver where only Japan got the slot machines, and internationally they included a new mini-game called Voltorb Flip instead.
Voltorb Flip doesn't resemble a real-world casino gambling game such as slots, roulette, or anything with dice or cards, but is still a luck-base game with some degree of strategy to mitigate a chance of losing. Like Minesweeper, it can come down to making a 50/50 call on winning/losing.
What I'm unable to confirm right now without booting up the game, is if the player has to wager any coins to play, and therefore gamble.
Since then, every mainline Pokémon game released had lacked any sort of game corner with playable minigames. The Hoenn remakes showed the Mauville game corner shutting down, with the owner giving you secret base dolls you'd earn through the minigames in the GBA version. It was Game Freak's way of saying thank you and goodbye to game corners.
Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee still has the game corner as an essential landmark in the Kanto story (with Team Rocket's hidden base below), but it's repurposed as an arcade with no gambling and no playable minigames.
Incidentally, the idea of "the bad guys are secretly operating out of a game corner" was actually used in an earlier Game Freak title called Pulse Man.
core memory
digigay era
cute girls cute pets cute friends
i repurchased pika
only GS color model has use in game & even then its borderline pointless
many hours wasted gambling though as a kid kek
a gay ripped all the sprites ill post the gif tomorrow
Yeah, I use buyee.jp, and they're pretty great. They store all your purchases in their warehouse for 30 days no charge. You can have them consolidate multiple packages, so they ship together, saving a ton on shipping fees. I wouldn't buy a used Pikachu for 9 dollars plus 30 dollars shipping. But put it in a box with a bunch of other random merch and character goods, it's suddenly worth it.
it's basically just a pedometer with a pika-tamagochi minigame, would be sick if it was modded into a gb

Checks out.
Nobody had a Digimon prior to 1999. Before the Pokemon craze, everyone had either a Tamagotchi, Nano Pets, or Giga Pets (mostly Tamagotchis, though).
When I was little, I was so moronic I thought the gameboy pokemon games stole their name from that thing.
Tape it to an old washing machine and throw in an unbalanced load, enjoy infinite clicks.
It's like a tamagotchi but funner. It's Pikachu and really cute.
You just had to be there.

I collect virtual pets and have been wanting one of these for ages
I guess it was the inspiration for the Pokewalker
I just bought one on Yahoo Japan Auctions. They go for pretty cheap (hope it works).
nice, do you use a proxy shipping service?
I was going to do that but I've been putting it off.
