It was a 8.5/10 game that everyone thought would be a 4/10 license shovelware.
Many fewer people played it than its critical reception called for.
Still as an 8.5/10 that few played, it failed to become a cult classic.
Riddick 1&3 are the same and 2 isn’t bad-good enough but as much as it’s tried to become a cult classic it never has. It keeps trying and failing and butcher bay lives under that shadow
vin diesel bought the studio and personally oversaw the development of these games
riddick is basically his fursona, huh
>chuuni as frick actor gets to see his fursona become a respectable IP
This is so based that it shouldn't be real, but it is. Which makes it even more based.
The game is highly acclaimed. Just because you personally don't see tweens making video essays about it doesn't make it underrated. That said I hope Vin Diesel gets this game relisted on GoG/Steam sometime before the last Riddick movie comes out.
I thought it kicked ass back in the day but now that I think about it some Ganker posers weren't even alive the last time I played it. Guess I gotta give it another go
Chronicles is such a weird film. The first time I watched it, I thought it was utter trash and a complete disgrace to Pitch Black. And yet it stuck with me. I rewatched after some years and realized I was maybe too harsh. Its watchable...just not as good as Pitch Black. And it still stuck with me. Now, its one of the few films I do near yearly rewatches of, and I consider it the best scifi film ever made.
I bought it on release and I while I did have some fun, I thought it was too short and too shallow, and I regretted paying full price. It was a neat graphics showcase, something to display to your PS2 friends to prove the worth of your Xbox, but it had no replay value and I soon sold it off. It was a textbook case of style over substance.
Also, Vin Diesel is nowhere near as cool as he thinks he is.
>it's constantly throwing you into new environments and scenarios.
Normally I'd say that was a good thing, but in this game I would have liked to spend more time with Riddick as a new fish in the prison who has to play by prison rules to survive among the scumbags. I liked the idea of a sci-fi Oz, but it was over too soon. The cell block serves as a tutorial area, then you're out doing your Riddick superheroics and fighting tacticool marines and giant robots and whatnot. I'd have preferred it if the action had centred on gang war murders with makeshift shivs.
>Vin Diesel is nowhere near as cool
He is cool if you watch the right movies. He thinks hes Torretto and thats the problem.Hes got his head so far up torretos ass that he only does that character every other movie.
Vin diesel in xXx, Knockaround Guys, Boiler Room is cool.
Get Assault on athena, it has remaster of first game thats literally exactly the same game but on updated engine. they didnt touched anything didnt even bothered to add some QoL stuff its same game one to one but with better graphics lol
Butcher Bay original is "okay" on modern PCs. You'll need a mouse fix for it and even then it's questionable. (I'd have some crashes but that could very well be my own problems).
Dark Athena with the Butcher Bay remaster completely fricks up the lighting and makes the game look worse than it originally did, but you can go into the ini files and turn off the bloom and color correction. If you're fine with doing that, I would say get the remaster just because it works with 0 issues on modern systems.

Making it read-only might not be enough, you may have to go to access permissions and remove write control from your user.
That's only if you want original colors. If you're fine with the "new visuals" then it works fine out the jump.
Also, you'll need to put the "dots" between the site and com, since Ganker thinks it's spam.
It was pretty decent in its time. Impressive graphics, the stealth mechanics worked alright, and first person melee combat that worked well. The shooting and level design were pretty meh, unfortunately and that took up most of the game's back half.
Would be interesting if it came back. A stealthy, melee-heavy first person sci-fi game would be cool
too long, the melee is bad and its honestly all pretty tedious. everyone just remembers the first two layers of the prison because thats all they could get to before they had to return the game to blockbuster.
nah it sucks
It's fine
That was my favorite part of the game. I loved getting the guard clothes and then stealthily offing all the guards 1 by 1.
It's Riddickulous
It was a hit back in the day. It just never became a cult classic.

My favorite part is when he said

and he riddickeduled all over the bad guys
underrated

Isn’t it his character from DnD?

It's short but there's practically zero filler and it's constantly throwing you into new environments and scenarios.

probably
Fun fact: this game is the firt to utilize normal maps, it beat out DooM 3 by a couple of months (maybe only on consoles, can't remember)
Tf you mean "normal maps"?
>"rise and shine Riddick"
It was pretty groundbreaking and appreciated at its time. It was just a heavily mismanaged IP so it's lost to time.
What's the best way to play Butcher Bay? Get the second game and play the remake?
04 pc developers cut. It's abandonware
Get Assault on athena, it has remaster of first game thats literally exactly the same game but on updated engine. they didnt touched anything didnt even bothered to add some QoL stuff its same game one to one but with better graphics lol

Better immersive sim than Deus Ex, and we will never get a game that good again.
i dont think u know what that means
