the fact that people have to deal with the language barrier on Ganker gives them more incentive to focus on the gameplay and it turns out that the gameplay isn't so bad, just watch good games being run fast
there's so much fricking donating cringe in this pokemon run that I literally can't listen to it because any time I un-mute they're doing stupid cat jokes
Raging Ache is an attack, it does extra damage based on missing health.
There's another one that does extra damage and does some damage to the player. You can chain them.
I'm watching him get hit by enemies he's trying to run past like that caster with the dark orb who just took off 100hp, sounds like a raging ache run would be stupid easy to set up like Pokemon's Torrent/Blaze/etc. where you stay in low health purposefully to oneshot everything
With how long saving is, you could probably save a lot of time if you were incredibly ballsy and never saved. Unless I'm forgetting something and saving is important.

Damn... Don't tell me it's lolcalized.
I haven't tried any of his projects so far.
What about the way text is rendered, though? I'm guessing they had to get a variable width font in there somewhere, and sometimes you need a lot of alphabetical characters when in kanji you can make do with just a few. It's the hard part of translating old games like these, which didn't have the convenience of some encoding standard like how modern engines have.

>It's the hard part of translating old games like these,
The hard part is finding a rom hacker who cares enough. There are way harder programming limitations out there, take PCE titles with voiced cutscenes. They didn't have subtitles out of necessity, they're often pushing the sprite limit to its limits to achieve fancy animation effects with near zero RAM, throw in audio loading and the only reasonable way to translate those titles is a fricking fandub. You hear rom hackers whine about how they had to extract a cutscene and re-encode it with hardsubs on the PS1 or Saturn and it just makes me laugh.
Rom hackers love to cry about how they had to do some basic reverse engineering work because they're lazy. The most difficult part of translating a game is finding people who aren't morons, but are autistic enough to work on a project that pays next to nothing at best for months.

I still think it's a relatively complex piece of work to deal with all sorts of compression techniques, programming tricks to squeeze out the hardware, and so on. I've only worked on small TL stuff so far (mainly VNs, which have an easy and known script format at that), which in comparison are baby tier when it comes to difficulty.
>but are autistic enough to work on a project that pays next to nothing at best for months.
That's indeed the hardest part. Passion is one thing, but when it's done for free, motivation can waver a lot.
When I say "rendered" I mean more of the presentation of certain lines and words, which is one of the most important parts of the game.
Racing Lagoon goes absolutely over the top with its use of all-caps English words throughout the script. Sometimes they're random words that are just there for cool factor. Other times, it's important terminology that gets referenced throughout the game and story.
It's really hard to explain to EOP what makes it interesting or special since English doesn't have something like English itself to make a direct comparison with here. It'd be like if everyone in the Anglosphere suddenly knew a decent bit of Chinese and a basic knowledge of like the first thousand Hanzi, but not enough to actually speak Chinese, and started peppering their sentences with utterly random Chinese words, or referring to places/people by Chinese words/titles/etc because they can. As though it were just a natural part of English that you were expected to understand. >"This guy and I go way back... >He's a true friend... my 朋友... >As kids, we roamed the 街道 under the heat of the red 太阳... >But then, it happened one day... the thing that 改变了 our lives..."
Anyway, I'm done ranting about it and am gonna get excited for the next run, or whatever.
Fair enough. I get what you mean with how JPs use English loanwords and whatnot. I'm from latam and people sprinkle English words for 'cool' factor here as well (I find it infuriating).
There's no doubt this element would be lost in translation, as the target language is the same as this 'loanword language'. Some translators take care of this by changing the language again (e.g. P3 Mitsuru using French words instead of English). Sometimes it can work, sometimes not. In the case of RL, changing the English to something else probably wouldn't work well.

At least he's not trying to figure out where he exactly is and just goes for the countries
it's moronic because geoguessr only has a few thousand images in its database
it sounds like a lot but if you ever play it for an hour or more and switch IPs you'll immediately notice a ton of repeat locations
The vehicle has a little black snorkel thing on the back, except for rare cases when it isn't present.
It's all just pattern recognition. If you learn all the street signs, electric poles, and a few other gimmicks, you can tell countries apart very easily.
Just watching this you see that it repeats broad locations incredibly frequently. Kenya has come up what, 4 or 5 times? Brazil as well. It's not truly random, there's some weighted algorithm to where it places you and only so many starting spots.
I played it at work a couple months ago and I saw the exact same starting location at least 3 times despite only playing an hour a day for less than a week.
>it repeats broad locations incredibly frequently.
Because these countries are huge. If they weighted the algo to display every country at the same frequency, you'd run through the set locations far faster because a lot of countries only have a few.
seems like bullshit, they can pull random locations from google street view. why would they limit it.

russia, brazil, turkey have tens to hundreds of millions in population. of course it could appear more than once in a run. and kenya only appeared 3 times.
How is there not a live chat translator for twitch that uses a local translation service vs sending hundreds of requests to Google or whomever. If I can download Google translate language packs and use them offline on my phone how the frick can't I have that function on my pc.

this is some playground "my uncle works at Nintendo" shit
I'm gonna be honest chief, Reikel and Yatogami are the only ones I wanna watch at BSG. Reikelt is doing an Ape Escape 3 race later this week and Yatogami is running Chenso Club and Sonic Frontiers. I might watch others like Hitman Blood Money.
is there a real competitor to games done quick outside the western world? any in latam? asia?africa? it's fresh seeing non whites speedrunning my favorite games

We can call it that when they interrupt the runs to beg for donations, stall for 20 minutes between runs to beg for donations, and then stall for 2 hours at the end to beg for donations. So far we're nowhere near the shitshow that is GDQ.
Correct response
watching the trials run was great because there wasn't a couch yelling "let's goooo" every 15 seconds, or an announcer asking to get a dono in whenever there was a gap in talking.
There's always the mini events between the seasonal events but those won't get threads, so you'll have to watch them on your own. Stylish Showcase, the fitness one, Ex, whatever else.

As a game developer, should they be feeling happy that there are people who are willing to speedrun their games in this way? Or should they be feeling disappointed that speedrunners have shown just how long their games' 'gameplay' actually is? Like say, not just these Dark Soul ones, but the Metal Gear speedruns, which ignores the story and side content that is worldbuilding and linking the previous games together. Is it the journey experienced along the way that counts, or is it just finishing the game?
It is entirely on the event organizers to sort out foreign language restream stuff. Do you really think getting a week long event restreamed with tens of commentators just happens out of nowhere?
t. knows someone that did an event that had several language restreams, one being in JP
I don't remember what you could do with camera glitches. But yeah this is more satisfying to watch than the days of quitting out to skip right to kiln of the first flame
the main one I know of is you can break the camera to stop the gate in sen's fortress from loading so you can get in right after gargoyles and do blight town later.

They have to make up for the times when things get really fricked and setup time drags on forever.
Seeing how RTA handles its breaks and transitions is night and day compared to GDQ
>same dev as Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day

Really liked playing vagrant story but at a certain point it became annoying to constantly change gear, especially with the pretty slow menu.

Game is filled with ingame infos covering everything, just like FFT was.

there's so much fricking donating cringe in this pokemon run that I literally can't listen to it because any time I un-mute they're doing stupid cat jokes
Ganker is fueled by negativity, if an event is good they will either try to doompost it or ignore it.
Damn that katana has some great stats already
>No Raging Ache
How much faster would the run be with it I wonder.
not sure what that even means, is it an item or a weapon?
Raging Ache is an attack, it does extra damage based on missing health.
There's another one that does extra damage and does some damage to the player. You can chain them.
Sounds like you could kill any of these major enemies in a single combo
Raging ache bypasses the "combos dmg depend on the initial hit damage", which is based off of statcheck. So yeah it's completely broken.
I'm watching him get hit by enemies he's trying to run past like that caster with the dark orb who just took off 100hp, sounds like a raging ache run would be stupid easy to set up like Pokemon's Torrent/Blaze/etc. where you stay in low health purposefully to oneshot everything
I fricking love Vagrant story so much it's unreal.
With how long saving is, you could probably save a lot of time if you were incredibly ballsy and never saved. Unless I'm forgetting something and saving is important.

jesus
>barely 2 minutes and already in the Nether
Whoa.
Out of memory, huh?
>crash
>now a death
Cursed run.
We are going over estimate it seems
The initial estimate on horaro is 33 minutes, but they changed it to 23.
damn that hurt to watch
That was a rough run, I'm impressed that he could recover it after that death.
How is he teleporting
When he hits the checkpoint, he resets. It's faster real time, shit for in game time because you get a penalty.
Anyone who has played Trials should be shitting their pants right now.
wtf he just left and the audience claps
no, he's going right
Nobody screaming
>LETS FREAKING GOOOOOOOOOO
after every course is soulless
Wow, this is the dark souls of precision platformers.
i should skin you
>blue belt took him a year and a half to clear
this game is pretty fricked up
this must be an extreme course, the base game is a lot easier.
It's if you gold medal the extreme courses kek
it's literally the ninja courses
Black belt took him a year and a half, after beating blue belt. Do your reps.
sorry i was barely paying attention
Radical.
Excellent run.
This guy must have the thickest, densest, hardest wiener in existence. You could drop a guillotine on it and the blade would shatter.
Just to be clear, this comment was for the Trials player, not this geoguessing crap.
Smart to have a generous estimate. Trials run have huge trainwreck potential
>it's actually... 0% off right now on Steam
>geoguessr to bring it to a grinding halt
every fricking time
At least he's not trying to figure out where he exactly is and just goes for the countries
it's moronic because geoguessr only has a few thousand images in its database
it sounds like a lot but if you ever play it for an hour or more and switch IPs you'll immediately notice a ton of repeat locations
I am still kind of baffled this works, but I guess with enough autism it's certainly doable if it's "only" a few thousand locations.
Looks like with Kenya, the vehicle used is ONLY used there, and is visible in every shot. So he sees the far wnd knows Kenya.
It's autism
If they weighted the algo to display every country at the same frequency, you'd run through the set locations far faster because a lot of countries only have a few.
seems like bullshit, they can pull random locations from google street view. why would they limit it.
russia, brazil, turkey have tens to hundreds of millions in population. of course it could appear more than once in a run. and kenya only appeared 3 times.
imagine this homie with hentai
>I recognize this wiener
>it's kurosawa sasami in his magnum opus bugkiller sister from 1982
>hues mentioned
what the frick is happening
>nugget spotted
S tier run
It was over quickly.
Rta Ja Rin Jpan

is anyone else making their dream game while watching runs in moon speak?
Actually yes.
Unironically, yeah.
Man I'm actually kinda upset I haven't been watching this it looks completely troony and identity politics free
>RTAJA in Pan
Yes, I'm in RTAchan's Pan(tsu)
is there a playlist with all the intermission music?
It was going well.
>actual touhou game was on
>/jp/ didn't flood the thread
Kinda sad honestly.
I think they're busy playing the new game.

homie spittin
I wish there was an english co-stream, can't understand shit
RTA-chan is cute and all, but I think we are not showing enough appreciation for good old R-kun here.
>starts by reading the opening line from the game
fricking based
I'm loving the standard RTP sound effects.
>that sly plug for the upcoming remake
I thought it was fricking vaporware
> 52,745
that's a lot of japs
It's a fairly regular amount of japs.
The way you explore the map reminds me of Sister Travel
That would be because Sister Travel is a "ruina-like"
You guys auto-translating chat, right?
>XC2 Money: Declined
what did they mean by this
If I had to guess, some carry-over bonus for having a save file of XC2 which they don't make use of?
Not sure if that even makes sense, though.
the heck happened to the run?
mercy killed 5 minutes into a 4 hour run
They could just not run this and I'd be cool with it
>wake up
>4 hour xenoblade
pain
How is there not a live chat translator for twitch that uses a local translation service vs sending hundreds of requests to Google or whomever. If I can download Google translate language packs and use them offline on my phone how the frick can't I have that function on my pc.
works on my machine
Nani
How?
yeah, im not spoonfeeding.
overcome or suffer in silence
Bruh I just need a name you don't gotta give me the link and everything to actually be spoonfeeding.
skill issue
>story in first person starts beginning ever sentence with "I"
pls
We still averaging 1 post/hour?
Give me an hour and I'll get back to you
Why even run BSG this close to ESA?
Anyone that would potentially have donated already has
Maybe it's not just about the money
it's a charity event
why would it not be about the money
not JUST
ESA rejects trying to build their twitch channel?
I never thought about how avoiding visions is probably a big part of a Xeno 1 speedrun
huh?
>Tfw you were assigned the 4:32am run
Grim
>XC2 Money: Declined
why is that a category
>next is bbowietheherodoes thst stuttering frick pretend to know japanese?
>3 more hours of xeno
>5 hours of hogwarts
wtf
it's 11PM in Japan right now
about 4:30 in Netherlands, right?
PM, correct
dumb phoneposter
i don't understand having a BSG twitch account if they aren't gonna stream there
I'm guessing ESA cucks them out of subscription money in exchange for being on a channel with more followers
uh
uh
um

ahhh

beautiful language
The page 10 save…
This bsg homie is insufferable.
>says thenword "literally" every other word
>sounds moronic
>uhhhh, ummmm, uhhhh

Benoblade Sefinitive Gdition?

The madman, fighting Lorithia without Melia or Riki
I just tuned in, why is he doing time attack?
Just for purchasing some items?
wait what the frick
>trades one item for a rabbit diode
>then does one time trial to get another
>finishes a quest
>gets thrown into sword valley and dies against Metal Face, with party at lv90 and only Dunban, Riki and Sharla in the party, everyone else is gone
this is some playground "my uncle works at Nintendo" shit
how tall is that one guy in the blue shirt, he's towering over everyone else kek
Why the FRICK is there a disgusting white gaijin in my Jap kino?
Did he say itadakimasu?
t/n: rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub!
waito piggu go home
>hurrr rta japan is amazing
>tune in
>gdq runner on screen
>dont even understand moon language
this whole thing was a mistake
The art stream's picked up a bit, up to about 1800 pics now.
Oh that indie Resident Evil clone thing is up next. I heard it was unfinished or something so I haven't played it yet.
I just woke up why are there Black folk on the stream
>rta jao in pan
ta jao rin pan
>完走した感想
gonna miss hearing it once the event's over bros...
Also yes it's Plum.
i discovered yesterday that it's actually Alice if you check the run
Is it really? Even though he has a record as Plum? Come on.
It's time.
Do you play as a dommy mommy Nazi b***h in SS gear hunting israelites?
Why are the japanese so soulless?
arisa
I'm looking for Arisa. Have you seen her?
is that a troony?
no it's just japanese humour
I have bad news for both of you.
I didn't even Know Japan liked speedrunning. How old is this event? I'm just now hearing about it.
2017 i think
2016 or so, don't remember.
>I didn't even Know Japan liked speedrunning.
its barely an event, dont worry about it
is there a real competitor to games done quick outside the western world? any in latam? asia?africa? it's fresh seeing non whites speedrunning my favorite games
homie they're the ones getting the charity money. If they had anything extra for charity they wouldn't need it themselves kek
>they're the ones getting the charity money.
I thought they were giving the money they receive from donations to charities in Japan?
they passed SGDQ 2023's peak viewership already
that's probably because there are more Asians in this world than whites and blacks combined.
Did I really miss 6 hours of this event? I got in so late!
You missed the whole thing. Today's the last day.
MSF is a "charity" that helps muslim terrorists and illegally ships Black folk to europe
you homosexuals are moronic for shilling this stream
>MSF
who? post sauce please
>show proof of this that isn't a Ganker post
I do not care about Africans being shipped to Europe, though?
>izu yoo famirii comiin tsuu ya ruumu tsudee
I wish I was as cute as Alisa
really not my proudest fap, but... man... look at him smiling
I will now play your game.
wait this was made in 2021?
We got ourselves a detective over here.
>Alisa loses the blocky PS2 doll dress
>My boner goes away
FRICKKKK I MISSED THE NINJA GAIDEN SPEEDRUN!!!!! When is the fall version of this start?
That sunflower is jacked.
Plants vs Zombies isn't what I remember
alot of these Japanese speedrunners fricking suck at games
stupid
i'm watching the ninja gaiden vod and the dude fricking sucks. he's making so many mistakes.
When's Typing of the Dead 2?
can't make this shit up
top guy isn't even Japanese tho,
>Poacher Animagus
For a moment I thought it said Amogus.
I'm switching to BSG
>TinyTim on whatever the frick Beep's Escape is
>Pokemon Snap race
>Pizza Tower
I might switch too, RTA's next block is rhythm games.
All I want for pizza tower is for the runner to not talk.
the music in that game is too good for a wannabe twitch celeb to prattle over it
>Pizza Tower getting potential redemption after SGDQ's meme shit
MY BODY IS READY
Let's hope. The runner has a 40% chance of being the Coco poster too. Also I need to find more of these crossover pics.
troony flag colors?
>letting trannies hold pastel colors hostage
Dumb American.
oh you gay japanese man troony?
frick you're moms ass
I really like this one, I wish I had saved the Wario one
this too
gay trend
you should try harder for (You)s
not looking for replies, just letting you know that deviantart character crossover art is gay, and will be forever
there's literally crossover art in the fricking game so you're just incapable of having any fun whatsoever
you're riiiight there, you almost got it
My condescending catpost is better than yours.
the top dude is very clearly deliberately wearing a maid outfit though, and has absolutely no indication that he's anything other than a dude who's wearing a maid outfit for a meme on stream.
Should have seen the godless night at the start of the event.
gigi timu stuppu
>Well, that was weird. Anyway, back to hunting israelites.
Alisa pantsu
My reaction top left.
Aww, twitch mods are giving 10 minutes timeouts to anyone who notices the booty. No wonder their birthrates are in the negatives.
wwww
We have to admit this really is Japanese GDQ.
Jannies have always been little b***hes, nothing new.
>Japanese GDQ
We can call it that when they interrupt the runs to beg for donations, stall for 20 minutes between runs to beg for donations, and then stall for 2 hours at the end to beg for donations. So far we're nowhere near the shitshow that is GDQ.
Correct response
watching the trials run was great because there wasn't a couch yelling "let's goooo" every 15 seconds, or an announcer asking to get a dono in whenever there was a gap in talking.
I missed this entire block, worth going back and watching? I'm hoping the Garegga run was good.
Trials was one of the coolest things I've seen in a while
I'll watch it now then, BSG is some gay indie platformer and every modern Resident Evil is the same shit.
>Character wears booty shorts
Maybe they're banning brainlets who feel the need to point out the obvious
Nah they're giving 10 minute timeouts to anyone who makes risque jokes too.
When will Natalia start using the bricks?
>ISSHO NI KITE
>IMA IKU
You know the rules.
I'm not home sorry
I just watched their cuphead vod run and they die so many times. Japs fricking suck at games
nice ass
there's something funky going on over at BSG
>open it because want to see tinytim next
Eugh. Not surprised this creature was shllling the GDQ thing.
>everyone's asleep in nipland so no new art deluge for another 12 hours
>No more RTA after tomorrow
There's always the mini events between the seasonal events but those won't get threads, so you'll have to watch them on your own. Stylish Showcase, the fitness one, Ex, whatever else.
Don't forget Mystery Dungeon
shotuuugun
God Revelations 2 Claire is hot
I can tell this Trials run takes a lot of skill, but I can't tell how skilled it is vs. someone who plays Trials all day every day.
It's tip top level
I believe he said it took a year and a half to complete the Black Belt levels it that helps at all.
Nice, some of the stuff he's pulling is wacky.
Yeah, I think he didn't even say "learn for a speedrun". I'm pretty sure he said year and a half for "complete"
I could be wrong
new art.... kudasai....
For you.
soul
>he doesn't go downtown after trains have stopped running for the night to play his speedrun in person
otasac-kun rack dedication
He mentioned a typhoon earlier so that might also be delaying travel; the station I watch had several late trains on Sunday.
The back and forth shouting is the best part of the 2 player Resident Evil games.
Especially when you're sneaking around enemies and yelling "COME HERE"
kek
>that hip shake
unf
Not bad, huh?
...that's all it takes for you?
Jesus that's pathetic
>no imagination
lol
You need imagination to see someone shaking their hips?
Yes?
you need imagination to make a post like this for sure
are your brains so fricking fried that you see a 2 pixel idle animation and your body goes
>HONKA HONKA FRICK TIME SEXXXXX SEXOOOOOO FRICK NOW SEX WITH PIXELS NOOOOWWWW
Is your brain so desensitized that you see a hot girl shaking her hips and you feel nothing?
>hot girl
>20x40 sprite
pick one
Porn has friend your brains.
ok
Calm down, frickin' dweeb.
Wouldn't it be the opposite? A porn addict who can't stop cooming would need extreme stimuli to feel anything.
Yes
Can you stop being gay... FOR FIVE MINUTES?
JONATHAN
CHARLOTTE
>Claire's boobs clipping up and down when she was grabbing the rocket launcher
lmao
Less than a minute under estimate.
that just means he had the balls to have a tight estimate
Comfy souls kino time
As a game developer, should they be feeling happy that there are people who are willing to speedrun their games in this way? Or should they be feeling disappointed that speedrunners have shown just how long their games' 'gameplay' actually is? Like say, not just these Dark Soul ones, but the Metal Gear speedruns, which ignores the story and side content that is worldbuilding and linking the previous games together. Is it the journey experienced along the way that counts, or is it just finishing the game?
Does it make you mad that I only skimmed through your post?
why isn't the runner stripping naked? isn't that what you're supposed to do when speed running this game?
how would you know, he doesn't have a cam
He's clearly showing that you don't need to be naked if you know the mechanics like the back of you hand
Even with the pine resin, why is he doing so much damage? Did he go all-in on dex?
Pizza Tower next in BSG for those interested.
I didn't know there's a kaizo Rayman hack now, apparently it's a 4 hour run.
thanks
I hope it's good. Pokemon Snap race was okay
Why's he playing in English?
Well, you got your answer just now anon.
He just feels like it.
ww
Why yes, I am replying to a 3 day old post.
It is entirely on the event organizers to sort out foreign language restream stuff. Do you really think getting a week long event restreamed with tens of commentators just happens out of nowhere?
t. knows someone that did an event that had several language restreams, one being in JP
>quiet music
>loud commentator
At least I won't be hearing YES CHEF after every fricking level.
I am SWEATING MY BALLS OFF watching SPEEDRUNS in FRICKING FLORIDA HEAT REEE
Pizza Tower's not gonna cool you down until Floor 4's fridge level so BUCKLE UP
Explain
How do you determine if that painted world skip is a glitch or not
I like that he bowed to Butterfly.
I haven't watched a DS1 speedrun in a long time but these RTSR setups are crazy
It's nice to not see the usual moveswap and camera glitches.
Yeah it's that one to skip ringing the bells.
This Trials game is like those troll physics comics.
That Trials run was butt-clenching for that Black Belt section. I wonder what his Steam hours are.
anything I missed today
FAT
ugly
what are the next 3 or 4 games? i'm gonna bake when we hit page 10 but i can't read nip
Yoiyami Dancers: Twilight Danmaku Dancers
TASOMACHI: Behind the Twilight
Rocksmith 2014
many thanks
I didn't notice that Tasomachi had been snuck into the schedule.
Yeah this was just a music block before, I didn't notice either.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ooof that didn't sound good
Ouch, that's like the biggest time loss you can get is DS1
dying to bed of chaos as a speed runner is basically impossible due to the strat that makes it a joke, and now he can't do it.
Classic Bed of Chaos. Even I felt that one.
now bed is rng and he'll probably die like 2 more times.
It's so fricking over.
Does anyone here own TOKOYO Tower of Perpetuity? RTA-chan's an official vidya character now but I don't own the game and I don't see an update post about it. Seems like she was snuck in. Can anyone check?
According to the dev's Twitter (@saebashi) she was added officially a few days ago, but this wasn't posted to Steam.
slideshow for anyone else?
For a little bit, it's better now.
Works on my machine, albeit at a noticeable low bitrate because nip internet.
Yep.
It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
he can still do it
Did he give up?
YOU CAN DO IT
pachi pachi pachi
HE DID IT
Jesus, that shotgun. Anyways, Kalameet lives so it's fricking over.
>still under estimate
Woah.
holy dead cata https://www.speedrun.com/darksoulsremastered?h=Glitchless-All_Bosses&x=xd1vlqzd-5ly9x9gn.p12jm9vq
at least the runner is #1 on a dead cata and not #320 on a popular one
