1. you could stock up several days worth of hunger points so you can eat a lot once and then forget about it for a while
2. if there was cooking so you could make very good foods
3. you could only heal with potions
I only agree with points 1 and 2 for less shit gameplay. Point 3 just makes you heavily reliant on finding watermelon unless you want to expand potions

Health should still regenerate very slowly, but if you wanna heal quickly then you should bring potions. Potions should also stack to at least 8-16.
they sort of did expand potions through suspicious stew, dandelion and blue orchid stew are mega food while daisys give regen.

It was implemented because the end didn't exist anyway, and if it didn't exist food would be worthless

Literally the dumbest thing about the hunger system is that they just slapped it into the game because they were worried about Don't Starve.
Specifically the CHROME GAME DEMO of Don't Starve.
the problem with hunger is that it actively gets in the way of the game's other systems.

additionally, hunger doesnt really add anything. wow! i have to eat a carrot every 60 seconds to avoid death, how realistic. just like the floating islands, cubic trees, and infinite water.
