Heretic and Wolf 3D place the their main bad guys at the middle of the game and then you deal with the underlings for the remaining chapters, which makes sense but it so anticlimatic, this design choice was not repeated as far as I know until MGSV.
I feel Heretic becomes a slog immediately after dealing with Hocus Pocus on a Dragon. Hexen has a strong start but quickly tires itself out but at least there is Dark Citadel. Hexen II is severely underrated but I guess Egypt was an early 90s filter.
I guess Russian gamers aren't too fond of Japanese games more than I thought. The first highest Japanese game is Dark Souls II and it is arguably Japanese game that is largely inspired by the west.
