It was so basic and restrictive. G-mod, Minecraft and Halo had way better mechanics for building. Fallout 4 has massive issues like the walls being way too high and wall mounted objects not actually touching the wall. It made everything look like shit. Even if you did manage to make something decent through modding, the nav-meshing of npcs ruined everything.
>build 3 by 4 corn field >assign one settler to it >get six food >leave cell and come back >there's two settlers working the corn field with no extra yield >game borked out and make invisible but workable copies of crops that don't have yield >trying to store said crops makes game crash
Playing through Fallout 4 right now. Haven't really done much in terms of settlements but so far it's a cool feature, especially for one that's new to the franchise. So far the best feature though is unironically just scavenging junk items and using them to mod weapons, improve armor/power armor, and make grenades and shit. After just playing New Vegas, it's pretty much the same thing that game did but 10x more fleshed out and fun.
If you like settlement building uironically come over to Fallout 76. You can check out the settlements others have built and you can build your own. Set up a shop with all the rare blueprints you found out in the world and people will be coming to visit you.
I only liked the settlement building after extensive modding. vanilla settlement building was way too limited, and 76's is the same way but with no mods.
almost all the settlements are in horrible spots, like a narrow alley shantytown full of junk, or hillside that makes all your stuff look off because you can only build flat
not to mention all the indestructible junk and unrepairable empty houses taking up tons of space, even in your old home Sanctuary
I didn't, it was fun building little forts then modding in settlement attacks, FO4 is a pretty good tower defense game stuck in a mediocre post-apocalyptic ARPG
Settlement building is the LAMEST fricking thing Bethesda has ever done and the fact that they keep double and tripling down on it is insane. Nobody ever wanted to fricking build settlements when playing TES and Fallout games.
Yeah and none of those mods involve looting junk for 20 hours in order to build the home yourself out of shitty parts with the worst interface imagineable. Player home mods are popular because you just download them and pop them into your game and that's that.
>a settlement is under attack! >get there >its not under attack at all, in fact everyone was waiting for you to get there before starting
There's even a damn defense value for settlements and they still frick it up
Settlement building would be interesting, but it wasn't fleshed out at all. I basically just threw them together so I could harvest caps from them. Fortifications didn't matter because they still got attacked regardless, I'm an adult male, so I didn't care about decor and the whole system is the main reason I have to stop and pick up all the garbage in any given area. It was an ignorable part of the game at least.
There are like a gajillion games that do building better than F04 and I don’t play them because I don’t enjoy those kind of games. If I wanted to play a game like that, I would buy one.
Controls are fricking terrible. It gives the console port of Sims 4 a run for its money.
The assets look like fricking shit. A lot of the walls and roofs have a ton of holes despite the fact you're making them brand new so whatever you build doesn't look good at the end to begin with.
It's a lot of boring busy work that is almost meaningless and a resource sink that could be used on literally anything else.
Only good thing about it is that if you side with anybody but the Minutemen like the good guys, Brotherhood and the Institute, you don't even have to touch that shitty system.
Fun fact, raiders spawn from a point that on some bigger settlements, such as sanctuary, could be inside the build zone. Rendering walls completely pointless.
when it felt forced in the early tutorial, really didn't enjoy it
HOWEVER
going out and making your own little bunker/base?
yeah, it was fun and really helpful on survival
I might've liked it if they fixed some of the issues. >If im not physically there victory is based on rng defense stat that doesnt even account for my settlers equipment or layout so i always take losses. But of i go there and just stand around my setttlers easily kick everyones asses. >Build massive fences and heavily guarded gates. Enemies just teleport into the middle of the base right on top of my crops and start smasing them up.
>npcs would walk trough the concrete
Yeah, it's because of navmesh frickery, you might be interested to know there's a mod that straight up lets you fix the fort after you take it and gives it a proper navmesh so NPCs don't spawn into the repaired sections halfway through a wall.
you WILL build on the predetermined plots with the four modular pieces of scrap metal for NO gameplay benefit whatsoever
You WILL waste perk points to make your pretend community better for no gameplay benefit whatsoever
Watch me take the idiot savant perk and spam eight thousand wooden poles in Sanctuary, Todd, you fricking hack
Idiot savant really ruined this shit for me. You start with a zero int build and have to farm into one. But generally it's never a good idea to raise int because of Idiot savant. Besides they made crit build too fricking good.
>idiot savant
unuasable for no other reason than I want to rip my wiener off and throw it at the screen whenever I hear that moronic sound. I don't give a shit how much extra xp it gives me there's only like five good perks in the whole game anyway.
What about Grim Reapers Spirit? A fricking huge GONG sound every time it procs, which is every third shot in vats.
This is why I hate bethesda. Because they put that gong sound in and never even played half an hour with the perk on to see what if that sound going off a thousand times would be beyond irritating. Bethesda doesn’t play their own games to see what sucks.
>vats
You're moronic if you use VATS in FO4. The game is ten times more fun if you play it like a normal FPS, especially on survival. It even has a reduimentary cover system which does the job well enough but you'd never utilise it if you used VATS. When I play FO4 perception, agility, and luck are dump stats. >Bethesda doesn’t play their own games to see what sucks.
This is absolutely true however
>You WILL waste perk points to make your pretend community better for no gameplay benefit whatsoever
these are the gays who turn around and complain that fallout 4 has no roleplaying elements.
Yeah it sucks. The building tools are too basic. The snapping sucks and needs more angles. Ultimately I never felt compelled to care about any settlement's happiness, water, etc. I just build a bed, water pump, and turret at each stop and keep moving. Frick the Minutemen.
I like the idea of settlement building but in practice it pissed me off. Junk all over the floor that you can't pick up so you just have to live surrounded by junk. All the prefabs are shitty run down shacks with holes in the roof as if carpentry is some ancient lost art. Even the fanciest bed option looks like a cumstained shitstained pissstained mattress. And worst of all trying to place anything next to anything else is hellish, shit goes red when nothing is in the way.
>you just have to live surrounded by junk
It's Bethesda™ Worldbuilding™ accurate
It's the post apocalypse, of course everyone lives in filth and leave shit lying around.
And raiders are so le crazy that they'll have dismembered rotting corpses hanging out where they eat and even in their bathrooms 🙂
>main story is moronic >forced to play as a good character making the rpg elements pointless >dialogue is just yes, yes, no but eventually yes and sarcastic yes >design of weaponry has been completely destroyed >dlc’s are horrible except for far harbor and some part of nuka world
because they MADE me do it. i have never been so bothered by a beth game. they were so proud of that settlement shit, they never let you get away from it. i don't want to rebuild boston, man. i just wanna dance in the rubble!
I was expecting the settlements to be there in the first place, with proper story lines and npc interactions (like a fallout game). I don't want to do the work for bethesda
It always shocks me how little there is in terms of actual worthwhile settlements in Fallout 4.
The settlement system is just a generic cancer radiant quest loop system and I'd have traded every single one of them for one or two more actual fleshed out settlements with real characters and quests.
I'm having more fun in Starfield. I love walking for 3 miles in the desert after 50 different loading screens trying to land right to find a spot with overlapping resources and setting up easy cargo links between my bases to haul very useful resources and building these useful, full of life settlements. Man, I miss those loading screens going back and forth between Constellation, Akila Minerals and my outpost to get the resources I need to create buildings.
There was no proper grid snapping. Yes, I am autistic, I don’t care. I want at least my building foundation, walls, door and other building elements to he perfectly aligned.
I couldn't care less about building in a fallout game.
If they delivered a decent game and on TOP of that they added the building stuff, yeah sure that's great.
But if your "RPG" it's not even that, the characters are cardboard, the story feels written by a cheap AI and the game loop is boring as hell, there's no reason I will care about building, maintaining and protecting a bunch of random trash villages.
It was so basic and restrictive. G-mod, Minecraft and Halo had way better mechanics for building. Fallout 4 has massive issues like the walls being way too high and wall mounted objects not actually touching the wall. It made everything look like shit. Ghost crops ruined it for me.

Shit tier bait
I didn't have to pretend, its pure 100% AIDS.

Because being restricted to walking around to build was dogshit. Swap to an isometric view and let me build like that.

Skyrim modding is literally fricking flooded with custom homes and towns, some of them even have decent production value.
Yeah and none of those mods involve looting junk for 20 hours in order to build the home yourself out of shitty parts with the worst interface imagineable. Player home mods are popular because you just download them and pop them into your game and that's that.
Building a shack out of four pencils and a tin can was pretty ridiculous.
>a settlement is under attack!
>get there
>its not under attack at all, in fact everyone was waiting for you to get there before starting
There's even a damn defense value for settlements and they still frick it up
>build cool perimeter with walls and choke points and strategically placed turrents and guard stations

Its shit like that which ruined the whole system.

They have zero creativity or played on console
Fun fact, raiders spawn from a point that on some bigger settlements, such as sanctuary, could be inside the build zone. Rendering walls completely pointless.

>Enemies just teleport into the middle of the base right on top of my crops and start smasing them up.
that was patched
Creating and decorating my own base was fun, but making a whole settlement for some bugged lifeless NPCs was not.
Everyone hates the moronic story, basebuildings was kino
Not schizo enough
Huh, I always just plugged that hole in the wall and left the actual gate as the only entrance.
I tried to block the actual door and npcs would walk trough the concrete, so made it into a kill corridor with 8 turrets on it
>npcs would walk trough the concrete

That's why you gotta download the Idiot bawd mod
frick off

it was shallow and restrictive like anything made by shithesda
Building settlements is fun, the problem is dealing with the fricking electricity, just let me put an extension cord on the ground
I like the idea of settlement building but in practice it pissed me off. Junk all over the floor that you can't pick up so you just have to live surrounded by junk. because they MADE me do it. i have never been so bothered by a beth game. they were so proud of that settlement shit, they never let you get away from it. i don't want to rebuild boston, man. i just wanna dance in the rubble!
how did they make you do it?
Maybe he's referring to building the teleporter?
The only settlement thing you Have to do is build the transponder to enter the institue, ya fricking baby.
I was expecting the settlements to be there in the first place, with proper story lines and npc interactions (like a fallout game). I don't want to do the work for bethesda
3 of them are, but that's it really and only 2 of them are worth a damn.

same
Because it was a way to pad out a game that lacked substantive content
Because it was a completely fricked buggy mess on release.
I loved and hated it, because they so half assed it. So many shitty bugs and glitches associated with the settlements.
There was no proper grid snapping. Yes, I am autistic, I don’t care. I want at least my building foundation, walls, door and other building elements to he perfectly aligned.
this shit irritates me as well, not even a 'tism-user. the scrap walls having little spaces inbetween them drives me nuts
I couldn't care less about building in a fallout game.
