I like the game itself, but so far seasons 1 and 2 have both been disappointing for me. These 4 character seasons suck, and the choices have been awful so far. Aside from that, there are still some balance issues, but SF6 is certainly the best a vanilla SF game has been in possibly ever.

Nah I did evo a couple years back and got washed in like the 4th round losers. 1700 isn't shit. It just means you don't play like an abare moron, have a good idea of your/opponent frame data, can perfect parry a good % of the time you need to and have footsies. A lot of dudes aren't even optimal at 1700. I'd get killed in a top 32 at majors and would have to get lucky to get to 64. I'm just more shocked that when you take away certain cheese, champion level players can crumble.

It's more like what's the difference between 1200-~1500 and 16+. The answer essentially boils down to online only tactics. If you really heavily on abusing conditions and round stealing then you will sink in master. Consistency is key and you can't build a winning strategy off of betting everything on something outside of your control.

As far as how big the difference is it's impossible to tell the size of the gulf. The moment I realized mashing was primarily a death trap on 6 my rank skyrocketed. Sorry for the delayed response anon I got temp banned. Anyways you don't really need videos unless you don't understand frame data or how to lab. But the best thing to do is to go back and train your inputs to be as clean as possible. Sacrifice some march play for lab time just to figure out the philosophy and potential of your character. If you ever truly get stuck then it's time to lab. Never discount the potential of one pixel of movement and if you can't figure out why you keep losing, check out your replays and figure out statistically what you are losing the most damage too. Don't make it your sole focus to stop that, but incorporate it into you knowledge base so you recognize the bad habit. Also, play mid tier as you are less likely to get bodied and more likely to have matchup knowledge over your opponent. Playing high tier is possibly the easiest way to never learn the game.

I'd argue this is partially a slime issue. They'll walk back, press a heavy button, then slime in to continue their combo and you eat half your HP for trying to tech a throw, so at that point you don't even want to bother. Sure, it's not entirely on slime, some characters could get good punishes without it from a shimmy, but it sure as hell doesn't feel all that different from getting smashed with a crush counter in V.

in 6 with parries around throws are intentionally meant to be a bigger part of your gameplan given that they punish counter parries, and especially now since they nerfed the recovery on tap parry. They've still made it harder for a few characters to consistently throw loop but they still want it in the game.

Ed is complex. I'm grinding at him too and his combination of non-standard buttons and frame data makes knowing how to counter things much less muscle memory than it is for most any other character.
I'm excited for Bison soon but I think he's going to be a nightmare to actually optimize in a match and I'm a shitter so I doubt I'll get much use out of him.

It is too much of a reaction-time test. To react to drive-crush and not die you need to have a reaction time of ~400ms. I am not interested in playing a game where I need to be on the edge of my seat ready to react to ~400ms reaction-check at all times, and if I lose one check I eat-shit and probably lose the round.

slime rushing at start is a gamble. Either you're hopefully gonna get a hit in and be able to take the first turn and get momentum, or the opponent smacks you in the face takes your momentum, health, and VERY valuable drive bar.
It can work out but it doesn't always. Drive is the equivalent of going full gas on the accelerator at the start of the race. Sometimes it can work out, sometimes it can be a wash, and sometimes it can just frick you over.
Now I'm not gonna lie to you and say the drive system is perfect its not. It has good things and it as bad things. But overall I feel like I'm having more fun with it than not but thats just me I can't assume what you will or wont like. But considering that SF6 is the most consistently played fighting game on the market I'd say you could end up liking it either because of slime or in spite of slime.
Still infinitely better than Tekken's awful heat system.

one thing I like about SF6 is that its on sale reasonably often. Get it on sale for $40 if you like it like I did then great but if you don't its not a world shattering level of regret like I experienced when I made the mistake of buying Tekken 8 for full price.

this has gotta be the worst, most confusing time to be a new Street Fighter fan. you go online and there's this fierce marketing campaign insisting SF6 is maybe the best game in the whole series and that SF has never been better–but then you go online and unless you live in Japan, you're fighting the same 50 people over and over again, then you step back and realize they're only getting 4 characters and 1 costume a year between ludicrously priced Avatar Exclusive cash shop content drops, and then you look at the Season Pass and half the characters aren't even SF characters. half last Season was characters from SFV–a game that at least half SF fans will say was ass–but for some reason we want its characters back? the game struggles to stay at 1/3rd it's peak daily outside JP hours because it's dead outside Japan. it has the sort of regional player disparity that you'd expect from a South Korean gacha game without a Global release. Akuma and the first balance patched helped a little, but not much.

But for me SF4 was the last good Street Fighter. Street Fighter V sucked and I won't be gaslit into thinking otherwise. Mainly it was the terrible first impression, but I tried to come back a few times, but I just didn't like it. When I tried SF6 I was already leery based on my reaction to SFV, but the green-slime mechanic of SF6 immediately made me go "Nope" and disregard the game. I don't even enjoy spectating the game. Its the other way around. SNK is in dire straight and Capcom and SNK go way back so the devs want to help to promote SNK and COTW. The devs of SF6 say they want street fighter fans to become fighting game fans not just street fighter fans. They're basically begging the fan base to try out COTW.

The older I get the more realize how superior Tekken is to Street Fighter. It has so many more variables in gameplay, bigger roster, bigger movesets, varied stages, actual customization and content.
I think 2D is just too simple and it always boils down to being some pixel counting spacing God or anime air combo autist. In Tekken, there is low, mid AND high whereas SF has only overhead to break the default crouch block state. Grabs are more complex to learn, oki is way more complex, mastering a character takes way longer and mastering the whole roster will take you a lifetime. Combos have to be adjusted to your position in a 3D space for optimal damage. A usual match in Tekken has a million more things going on than a usual game of SF. The skill gap is so much higher while also not being a complete bore for beginners to its free flow system.

Even if I'm not really a fan of drive rush I'll have to agree. This is one of the most evenly balanced fighting game rosters I've seen in a long time with this patch. For all their faults Capcom is generally good at improving Street Fighter games through their lifespans so I'm happy with where it's at and interested in where it ends up.

It seems that there's not a lot of guides or tips for him compared to other characters because he's very strong and it seems like other people are not having trouble playing him. If I search for "tips for playing akuma sf6" it's a bunch of posts asking for tips AGAINST him.

The game has a shoto problem, all I ever fight is Akuma, Ryu and Ken. Either they rush you down or spam fireballs. Shotos shouldn't be top tier and don't give me that beginner type for everyone shit.
That said, it's funny to see Akuma command grab and Raging demon gays miss because of a read. Maybe if you played a grappler you'd learn how to do command grabs properly instead of using it when fireball spam isn't working.
