Redux has worse art, worse UI, worse sound design, intrusive self-inserts and it casualises the game in a number of ways. Apparently the extra dungeon is decent but I decided to play the original and had a good time, probably etter than if I'd played the 3DS version
SMT is not about dungeon crawling. It is more about building teams for certain encounters or building good teams that can stand bullshit game throws at you.
It's difficulty is overblown. It's not so hard that you can't overcome it without grinding (exceptmaybe the last boss) but you do have to be savvy about how to build your team
It's honestly casual for a dungeon crawler. You can avoid encounters easily and you'll always have enough means to heal you up. It doesn't include the usual bullshit you'd find in a proper dungeon crawler. You don't have to be experienced at all.
The last boss is kind of a b***h though, but only if you went neutral.
There is no true ending. All three endings are different enough. They did flesh out them in Redux (for better or worse)
I hate when games do that shit, several different endings are never satisfying.

Just play Redux if you want actual endings, each route has much better endings whereas in the original it's pretty much just neutral that gets a decent conclusion.
Also most people overestimate how easier it is than the original and I say this as someone who has beaten both, the extra dungeon and the top tier voice acting alone makes it worth it.
I played it earlier this year having never played a dungeon crawler or mainline SMT and I loved it. Not too difficult overall. The parts I struggled with were Ouroboros and the utterly bullshit final boss (neutral ending). I overcame the final boss by abusing Mitama fusions, that's a mechanic worth learning about.
It's genuinely not very hard as long as you keep fusing, getting essences, and trying to use demons of the same alignment. You'll probably get frustrated with the dungeon crawling before you hit a major roadblock with difficulty.
I played the original. Redux has more content (extra dungeon) but also adds in a Mary Sue that kills you repeatedly and also has worse character art
SJ is pretty mediocre imo, the game goes from EZ to insane at two random points (5th world boss and final boss)
go redux, if you want to skip the redux content you can ignore the womb of grief dungeon and get the OG endings anyways. if you really want difficulty just dont buy op subapps
play redux, it's the overall better experience from a gameplay perspective. people complain about commander skills being too cheesy but you can just opt to not use them, and same goes for the new endings and story segments, they can be ignored for the most part and you can choose to get the original endings.
I suggest playing the original first and going for Neutral's ending, and then if you had fun with that you can do true law or chaos on the Redux and enjoy the bonus content.
look what they did to my homie Commander Gore the pixelated version is 10000x better. You also don't have to look at that one fat crew member in the ds version.
I don't agree about the art change. Giving everyone unique portraits more than make ups for main characters looking mildly worse. A bigger problem with Redux is the new content being so ingrained its difficult to naturally come to the superior original endings. But I'd still call it a sidegrade, rather than up or downgrade.
It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a little more consistent. Doi drew Alex and the new demons, some intern did the shitty crew members and and then you also have all the Kaneko demons.
>fusing to remove weaknesses in SMT >farming for perfect IV/nature/egg move pokemon then micromanaging perfect EVs >the unholy autism of DQM fusion mechanics
it's all so tiresome
Just play the original. The worst thing about Redux is that it muddles the story and adds "objectively correct" endings that undermine the bittersweet endings of the original.
There is also parts like >BEING ABLE TO SEE YOUR DEMONS PIXEL IN SECOND SCREEN >art protrait are all updated and high rez. Originals are all low res shit and anyone telling you MUH ART direction will never mention this >more dungeons to explore >QoL stuff, even though this piss off the original gays >have an actual difficulty selection
Seriously, anyone suggestioing original are contrarian morons that want new players to suffer and rage quit when they shouldn't do this at all with the existence of Redux.
This game uses the worst possible method of rewarding XP at the end of a battle, it's extremely easy to exploit and overlevel yourself in just a couple minutes. All the complaints about difficulty are literally invalid due to this one oversight.
Redux is a meme, play the original
The only SMT where Neutral is the undisputed best choice.
I've only played 4 and 5 before and Neutral is objectively the best outcome in 4.
dumbass, neutral is always the best path in every SMT game
what? the only mainline were neutral is a bad choice is smt II
>playing Persona spinoffs

How hard is the game for someone inexperienced in the dungeon crawler genre?
SMT is not about dungeon crawling. It is more about building teams for certain encounters or building good teams that can stand bullshit game throws at you.
Strange Journey is literally a dungeon crawler, did you really play it?
Yes, also smt4, nocturne, smt5 and I tried smt if.

I don't care about that Neutral, Good or Bad ending shit, I want the true ending, which one is it?
there is no true ending. All 3 endings are the bad endings.

I beat it at 11. I think you'll do fine.
lol you're not intelligent just because you beat a hard game when you were 11
I know I am but what are you?
he's not saying he was intelligent he's saying you're a moron if you can't clear it as an adult.
It's genuinely not very hard as long as you keep fusing, getting essences, and trying to use demons of the same alignment. You'll probably get frustrated with the dungeon crawling before you hit a major roadblock with difficulty.
>didnt play redux
>says all this shit
Moron
Redux has new art and voice acting, but weird story changes, I'd say play the original first, and if you want to check out the 3DS version after.
647335014
that bait is so bad that i'm not even giving you a (you)
Redux is ass, just play the original. As far as tips go, try to experiment with different demons to get as much essences as possible.
Ok, but why did you post that pic? O_o

redux of course
but frick both of them, frick this. just play etrian odyssey 3 if you have nds or etrian odyssey 4/5 if you have 3ds.
frick this game it is boring. one of worst smt

Redux is a straight up improvement

>muh art change
Such a massive meme considering you can barely make out the originals art at all due to pixelated ds graphics
look what they did to my homie Commander Gore the pixelated version is 10000x better. You also don't have to look at that one fat crew member in the ds version.

why dont you go suck a wiener?
It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a little more consistent. Doi drew Alex and the new demons, some intern did the shitty crew members and and then you also have all the Kaneko demons.
I checked the originals Amazon price and damn is it insanely pricey
>Buying a DS game in 2023
What the frick is wrong with you?
original
Fusing is the part that filters me the most with SMT tbh
fuse yo ass on my dick mf
>fusing to remove weaknesses in SMT
>farming for perfect IV/nature/egg move pokemon then micromanaging perfect EVs
>the unholy autism of DQM fusion mechanics
it's all so tiresome
Even in the more basic games like 1 and SJ?
Ignore the moron and just play Redux. There no point in playing the original other than MUH HARDER gameplay.
Just play the original. The worst thing about Redux is that it muddles the story and adds "objectively correct" endings that undermine the bittersweet endings of the original.
Play Redux it has more content, there is literally no reason to play the original over it.
Do it for Demeter.

>QoL stuff
Incredibly disingenuous position.
Dungeons are already super long in strange journey with lots of traps and dead ends. Why you want to suffer more playing the original?
Redux is better because there are quality of life changes. Only morons will play the original when you can literally choose what ending you want.
Redux is fine
