Definitely play on Hard.
On easier difficulties these game always immediately fall over backwards and give up the moment you start engaging with their mechanics at all.
If you get super stuck and don't have fun anymore you can always lower it later on, but you can never raise the difficulty so if you start on Safety or Normal and get bored you won't be able to swap up to Hard.
just overlevel any content by a few levels and even on hard its becomes ez af.

No. SMT is interesting because it's not braindead like most JRPGs. Keep this in mind:
-The price to heal scales with how hurt your team is, especially if they need resurrection. Take every battle seriously, as MP is cheaper to restore than HP, or you'll wind up spending 90% of your macca on healing fees.
-Items are strong. Use them wisely.
-Rewards from fights scale majorly with level difference. One of the fun parts of the game is finding an enemy spawn you can crush with a properly made team.
-NOT ALL DEMONS ARE EQUAL. You have to actually look at their stats and pick the best ones for the role you want.

Multiple new scenes, guest party members, new bosses, diverges greatly halfway through and then leads to a sort of similar end game. Creation's story was largely seen as pretty lacking, but cause there is extra content you unlock by doing both morons have got it in their heads that new players should do the worse route first.
There is no way in hell I am going to be able to play this game 4 times. I beat the original when it first came out, how long is Vengeance? Is it much shorter than creation?
creation is the vanilla game's route, vengeance is the new one. if you're only going to play the game once, vengeance is probably the move but if you want full context of the game play creation first. I'm replaying Creation before I play Vengeance myself.
persona yes, SMT no, not really. how long to beat clocks the original SMTV at 45 and half hours, persona 5 vanilla at 97. alot of persona's runtime is the day to day stuff, which mainline SMT lacks as it's mainly focused on the dungeon crawl.
More so the fact he never really does anything with knowing he's Susano-o. In his own myth he's the hero but Vengeance takes a left turn and makes it about the sacrifice. In a story of revenge it makes sense because Susano-o isn't being sacrificed by anyone, he's trying to save someone. But he never figures it out or does anything with that information? I mean they may have added something but he's dead for half the game so I doubt it. There is probably no new Creation quest.
I always go STR but I'm an oldgay who played the games where the MC couldn't use magic at all. STR was pretty good in vanilla SMTV and seems pretty good so far but I've only just unlocked the second region in the creation route.
In the original there wasn't much point in mag over str when the MC was given unique almighty phys nukes and the game had elemental strikes that were also phys. I don't know if vengeance shakes that up.
That said, I beat everything on hard in the original with every single point into vitality and it didn't really matter much. At the end-game I seemed to be doing about 30% less damage than a build tilted hard towards damage, and taking 30% less damage in exchange. That's a good idea for how far stats can really swing the outcome.
I'm just gonna play through the new route once on hard and make a decision from there. I doubt I'd bother playing the old route again just to unlock a superboss, but if I hear/see that godborn is an interesting difficulty then I might go for it in the future when there's a game drought or something.
What should i do first
- emulate the original Switch game with all the DLC
- buy the PC xbox deluxe version, also with all the dlc, but with denuvo (for some mistake in my country, the digital version is selling at only 8 bucks)
Does the PC version comes with lag or any other issues? Should i experience the original first before the remixed version?

Guarding really just let me survive 2 more turns, I kept trying to use fire dampeners to stop the fire breath but after the third turn where i used all the ones you can carry, he finally did the fire breath, crit 2 different people twice, then did another attack crit and wiped from full health

skill issue. you can get an early group heal from the demon angel, and Apsaras and Mermaid are all you need ice magic wise to kill him easily. guard the toxic breath and heal up when needed and the fight is over before you know it
The game is designed around demons and fusion which the bosses knowledge and skill check. There will be some demon somewhere that you can find or fuse that the boss will be weak to or wont be able to touch, especially that early in the game.
Buy dark dampeners for the magatsuhi. There are always items/demons you can make or get close to a boss that makes it a cakewalk. Just look around a bit
Go to Gustave's shop, and buy a Dark dampener, use it when the hydra is about to use toxic breath, KEEP IN MIND ONCE THE HYDRA LOSES ITS HEADS IT WILL START TO USE A DIFFERENT ATTACK

For anyone who might be playing the Switch version after having played the original; have you tried adjusting the graphical options relating to motion blur, anti-aliasing and such? Some reviews have stated that the performance would be identical to the original, but one review stated that turning some of these new graphical options off would result in a slightly more stable performance. I don't mind loss in graphical fidelity and detail, if I could get the game run at least a bit more smoothly than the original did.
Also, is the Japanese audio included on the cartridge this time around?

I was thinking about doing a save file for all the Creation endings clears with new game +, and another separate save file for all Vengeance related stuff.
Starting fresh for all the new content seems like a good idea.
More slightly more happens in the new route. To me that's the only real benefit over the original. I may just be jaded because the two characters I wanted to see physically do more are gone halfway through the game.

They really should have made it so beating any route unlocks the sidequest for any ng+ route. Instead of needing to do true neutral first and then do a vengeance run.

It's looking good, just be aware that it has Denuvo. Don't frick around with too many different versions of Proton. Denuvo treats each version of Proton as a different device so you can get locked out.

On one hand it wasn't a mindless fight like every single fricking fight in a persona game, but on the other it wasn't really all that challenging either. Is the rest of the game like this? I was kind of hoping they'd rebalance the game around the demons that you get overall being stronger because of the new innate skills and Aogami throwing free skill points at you along with the other shit demons give you in the haunt.
I haven't gotten far enough to get the dlc demons, but I'd say no. Using any of the mitama shit will break the game, and the dlc demons are overpowered as frick. Unless you really want Dagda and you can't get him separately, I wouldn't bother.

I just tried to start a playthrough and it read my clear data from a route other than the true neutral route. Is there a way to fix that? I did the neutral route first and more recently did the Chaos and Neutral routes.
I don't want to be fricked out of accessing my original play through demons (the other two were rush jobs of the final area) or be locked out of any new content.
As a massive V apologist, I was curious to see how my feelings would hold up on this replay. So far: yep, I still love it. Demon Haunts should be a mainstay from now on.
I dunno they're alright but I think giving the Beano 3 stat points basically every time you talk to Aogami is a bit much, and the haunt doesn't really do anything that the level up screen wouldn't already randomly do.
I'm more talking about a space where you can talk to your demons and companions to get bits of lore or reactions to the plot from them. The stat-ups from Aogami I could honestly take or leave. It's not every conversation, but the equivalent of 3 levels worth of points after major story moments is excessive.
I guess, I just dislike it's functionality of replacing what used to happen mid dungeon crawl with me having to double back to save point so my slime can give me another life stone. good idea on paper, needs better execution or unique functionality to make it worth it. maybe if we get comps in the next game it could just be accessible from your menu at any time.
Maybe if you could access haunts wherever, it might be nicer, I agree. I've yet to find a point in the game where I've doubled back to a save for the sole purpose of the haunt mechanic, though.
Nocturne is all about dungeons. V is not about dungeons. The maps themselves require navigation and figuring out how to get from one place to another which is similar to a dungeon but there are no gimmicks, no floors, no traps (except maybe randomly spawning enemies) and no enclosed spaces.
Ok so its a crapshoot. I loved nocturne, but for V I loved a lot but hated a lot and it was a mixed bag. Never played vengence.

Wait I worded this poorly. Nocturne doesn't focus on characters but V opens up and makes you think its going to be character driven when it ends up not. Nor is it plot driven. But you can tell obvious plans were there but got cut. In Nocturne the characters were more like symbolic archetypes that worked really well. The mood and atmosphere was really good and worked well with them. V just feels like it should have had a plot but didn't. Like it was emulating Nocturne but failed.
Nocturne has better atmosphere and has 1 really good dungeon. V has better gameplay and level design and no copy paste subway tunnels, and also no random encounters.

Wrong. Nocturne is full of copy pasted hallways outside of a select few areas. The level design overall is middling at absolute best. V has areas that are all completely different in terms of layout and actually have vertical movement.

Not at all. In pretty much any game like this each new area has 3 or maybe 4 template encounters. You learn the most efficient and safe way to kill them and know exactly when you need to heal or leave, and then you repeat that a bunch of times. It becomes extremely rote. The only game with random encounters that does anything to alleviate this is EO by adding in FOEs because they keep some actual tension for a while longer.

You only need an MP passive on your group healer to let you survive extended amounts of time in every dungeon.

I enjoyed the gameplay of 5 enough but thought the story was horrifically lacking, especially the endings (all 3 endings were basically just picking which jpegs are floating around after you beat Lucifer). Does Vengeance fix this in any way?
Vengeance focuses on Yoko and Tao who are Walter and Johnathan 2.0. They ask you alignment questions and your only two endings are between them. The story focuses on them so much the other characters get pushed aside, rushed, or just flat out killed. If you wanted a lot more from them, don't expect it. Tao still complains about Sahori, Yoko just thinks the world sucks as such you do more in their respective endings but not so much gameplay wise. You fight different bosses and Lucifer still shows up at the end either way to b***h about mandala. Tao wants to help you be a god that helps people while you sit on the throne, like a special help request line. Basically just like if she was Amaterasu who tells people in her pantheon to go help others on heroic quests (except they still never call her Amaterasu). Yoko wants a restart from everything so she gives you the option to have a nice day.
The new girl and the old main girl are basically Law and Chaos this time around, so they're around more...but the other characters apparently get shafted.

There are two stories now. The old one and the new one. Both the same length. In order the access the super boss of the new story you must beat the old story again. In order to access the new super boss of the base game you must beat the new story (when you beat the super boss of the new story you unlock super hard mode). There are new demons and shit as well. Pretty much only get this if you really LOVE the original or didn't play it at all.

Starting with Creation because it's been too fricking long since I played the original that I barely remember shit. Has the game been made easier compared to the original? I remember Mermaid being a bad pick against Hydra because it could also hit her weaknesses or something, but maybe I'm remembering wrong. Even Nuwa was surprisingly easy.
Well the removal of the level scaling made it a bit easier but even if you forget stuff somethings will come back to you like the weakness of snakebreasts, a lot of the difficulty comes with trying to understand how the boss works and when you figure it once you will have it locked somewhere for your brain to dig up even years later

They're totally worthless. The healing stone can be handy if you have a character with nothing to do, but it heals like half of what a Media spell could do, and the only time I've used a the gleam bomb is when I've ended up fighting a group of five slimes or some shit. Plus, I remember there being a few items in the game like this that are way better. I don't remember using them because by that point Beano is just a physical skill spammer, but depending on how long you've got other human party members with you in this version, they may turn out better.

It was the first SMT game I played and I didn't find HARD to be all that bad. You just had to use the demons available to make something busted
Definitely play on Hard.
On easier difficulties these game always immediately fall over backwards and give up the moment you start engaging with their mechanics at all.
If you get super stuck and don't have fun anymore you can always lower it later on, but you can never raise the difficulty so if you start on Safety or Normal and get bored you won't be able to swap up to Hard.
just overlevel any content by a few levels and even on hard its becomes ez af.
only demifiend on hard WILL give you a problem unless you understand what youre doing and plan ahead. maybe shiva too and god knows if vvengeance actually adds anything new thats hard

No. SMT is interesting because it's not braindead like most JRPGs. Keep this in mind:
-The price to heal scales with how hurt your team is, especially if they need resurrection. Take every battle seriously, as MP is cheaper to restore than HP, or you'll wind up spending 90% of your macca on healing fees.
-Items are strong. Use them wisely.
-Rewards from fights scale majorly with level difference. One of the fun parts of the game is finding an enemy spawn you can crush with a properly made team.
-NOT ALL DEMONS ARE EQUAL. You have to actually look at their stats and pick the best ones for the role you want.
Normal is easy enough.

Creation's story was largely seen as pretty lacking, but cause there is extra content you unlock by doing both morons have got it in their heads that new players should do the worse route first.
Creation (Law) on normal, then Creation (Chaos) on normal, then Creation (Neutral) on Hard, then Vengeance on Godborn. The way YHWH intended.

persona yes, SMT no, not really. how long to beat clocks the original SMTV at 45 and half hours, persona 5 vanilla at 97. alot of persona's runtime is the day to day stuff, which mainline SMT lacks as it's mainly focused on the dungeon crawl.

In the original he did next to nothing despite being about for the full thing.
More so the fact he never really does anything with knowing he's Susano-o. In his own myth he's the hero but Vengeance takes a left turn and makes it about the sacrifice. In a story of revenge it makes sense because Susano-o isn't being sacrificed by anyone, he's trying to save someone. But he never figures it out or does anything with that information? I mean they may have added something but he's dead for half the game so I doubt it. There is probably no new Creation quest.
Do i go mag or str? i'm only 2 hours in and have only put a couple points in vit so far
I always go STR but I'm an oldgay who played the games where the MC couldn't use magic at all. STR was pretty good in vanilla SMTV and seems pretty good so far but I've only just unlocked the second region in the creation route.
In the original there wasn't much point in mag over str when the MC was given unique almighty phys nukes and the game had elemental strikes that were also phys. I don't know if vengeance shakes that up.
That said, I beat everything on hard in the original with every single point into vitality and it didn't really matter much. At the end-game I seemed to be doing about 30% less damage than a build tilted hard towards damage, and taking 30% less damage in exchange. That's a good idea for how far stats can really swing the outcome.
VV changed level scaling so that's unlikely to be the case here

guard, he'll use the crit magatsuhi skill before he uses the breath every time as a tell.
Guarding really just let me survive 2 more turns, I kept trying to use fire dampeners to stop the fire breath but after the third turn where i used all the ones you can carry, he finally did the fire breath, crit 2 different people twice, then did another attack crit and wiped from full health

skill issue. you can get an early group heal from the demon angel, and Apsaras and Mermaid are all you need ice magic wise to kill him easily. guard the toxic breath and heal up when needed and the fight is over before you know it
Don't play it on hard mode if you're already having trouble with the first boss
The game is designed around demons and fusion which the bosses knowledge and skill check. There will be some demon somewhere that you can find or fuse that the boss will be weak to or wont be able to touch, especially that early in the game.
Buy dark dampeners for the magatsuhi. There are always items/demons you can make or get close to a boss that makes it a cakewalk. Just look around a bit
I beat it pretty easily at lvl 14 on normal mode. Just use sukunda so it loses its turns even if it crits.
Fuse Mermaid, block when he uses Omagatoki Critical, pretty much impossible to lose if you do that.

he always uses that skill when his magtsuhi is full so it's easy to predict
Go to Gustave's shop, and buy a Dark dampener, use it when the hydra is about to use toxic breath, KEEP IN MIND ONCE THE HYDRA LOSES ITS HEADS IT WILL START TO USE A DIFFERENT ATTACK

they did, every demon has innate skills now that add a variety of passive effects.
For anyone who might be playing the Switch version after having played the original; have you tried adjusting the graphical options relating to motion blur, anti-aliasing and such? Some reviews have stated that the performance would be identical to the original, but one review stated that turning some of these new graphical options off would result in a slightly more stable performance. I don't mind loss in graphical fidelity and detail, if I could get the game run at least a bit more smoothly than the original did.
Also, is the Japanese audio included on the cartridge this time around?

As a massive V apologist, I was curious to see how my feelings would hold up on this replay. So far: yep, I still love it. Demon Haunts should be a mainstay from now on.
I dunno they're alright but I think giving the Beano 3 stat points basically every time you talk to Aogami is a bit much, and the haunt doesn't really do anything that the level up screen wouldn't already randomly do.
I'm more talking about a space where you can talk to your demons and companions to get bits of lore or reactions to the plot from them. The stat-ups from Aogami I could honestly take or leave. It's not every conversation, but the equivalent of 3 levels worth of points after major story moments is excessive.
I guess, I just dislike it's functionality of replacing what used to happen mid dungeon crawl with me having to double back to save point so my slime can give me another life stone. good idea on paper, needs better execution or unique functionality to make it worth it. maybe if we get comps in the next game it could just be accessible from your menu at any time.
Maybe if you could access haunts wherever, it might be nicer, I agree. I've yet to find a point in the game where I've doubled back to a save for the sole purpose of the haunt mechanic, though.

Nocturne is all about dungeons. V is not about dungeons. The maps themselves require navigation and figuring out how to get from one place to another which is similar to a dungeon but there are no gimmicks, no floors, no traps (except maybe randomly spawning enemies) and no enclosed spaces.
Chiyoda has multiple tiers (floors) and interconnected destroyed buildings (enclosed spaces).

Wait I worded this poorly. Nocturne doesn't focus on characters but V opens up and makes you think its going to be character driven when it ends up not. Nor is it plot driven. But you can tell obvious plans were there but got cut. In Nocturne the characters were more like symbolic archetypes that worked really well. The mood and atmosphere was really good and worked well with them. V just feels like it should have had a plot but didn't. Like it was emulating Nocturne but failed.
Nocturne has better atmosphere and has 1 really good dungeon. V has better gameplay and level design and no copy paste subway tunnels, and also no random encounters.

Not at all. In pretty much any game like this each new area has 3 or maybe 4 template encounters. You learn the most efficient and safe way to kill them and know exactly when you need to heal or leave, and then you repeat that a bunch of times. It becomes extremely rote. The only game with random encounters that does anything to alleviate this is EO by adding in FOEs because they keep some actual tension for a while longer.

You only need an MP passive on your group healer to let you survive extended amounts of time in every dungeon.

I enjoyed the gameplay of 5 enough but thought the story was horrifically lacking, especially the endings (all 3 endings were basically just picking which jpegs are floating around after you beat Lucifer). Does Vengeance fix this in any way?
Vengeance focuses on Yoko and Tao who are Walter and Johnathan 2.0. They ask you alignment questions and your only two endings are between them. The story focuses on them so much the other characters get pushed aside, rushed, or just flat out killed. If you wanted a lot more from them, don't expect it. Tao still complains about Sahori, Yoko just thinks the world sucks as such you do more in their respective endings but not so much gameplay wise. You fight different bosses and Lucifer still shows up at the end either way to b***h about mandala. Tao wants to help you be a god that helps people while you sit on the throne, like a special help request line. Basically just like if she was Amaterasu who tells people in her pantheon to go help others on heroic quests (except they still never call her Amaterasu). Yoko wants a restart from everything so she gives you the option to have a nice day.

Even in the original what Amanozako says about Aogami visibly complicates his feelings. There are two stories now. The old one and the new one. Both the same length. In order the access the super boss of the new story you must beat the old story again. In order to access the new super boss of the base game you must beat the new story (when you beat the super boss of the new story you unlock super hard mode). There are new demons and shit as well. Pretty much only get this if you really LOVE the original or didn't play it at all.

Starting with Creation because it's been too fricking long since I played the original that I barely remember shit. Has the game been made easier compared to the original? I remember Mermaid being a bad pick against Hydra because it could also hit her weaknesses or something, but maybe I'm remembering wrong. Even Nuwa was surprisingly easy.
Well the removal of the level scaling made it a bit easier but even if you forget stuff somethings will come back to you like the weakness of snakebreasts, a lot of the difficulty comes with trying to understand how the boss works and when you figure it once you will have it locked somewhere for your brain to dig up even years later

The healing stone can be handy if you have a character with nothing to do, but it heals like half of what a Media spell could do, and the only time I've used a the gleam bomb is when I've ended up fighting a group of five slimes or some shit. Plus, I remember there being a few items in the game like this that are way better. I don't remember using them because by that point Beano is just a physical skill spammer, but depending on how long you've got other human party members with you in this version, they may turn out better.
