That's why I specified Welkin and not Alicia. His reasoning for not wanting to use her power is absolutely moronic and leads to hundreds of civilian deaths that could have easily been avoided.

Still though, I can sorta understand talking her down in the heat of the moment since she was about to blow herself up and I guess there was a point about not wanting to get obsessed with the power to the point of losing sight of the human cost like Faldio did, but admittedly they're at war and at that point the Imps were cutting their way straight to the capitol and Selvaria's nuke just cost them a lot of manpower.
It's fine when she goes off on her own on a self-imposed suicide mission, but even prior to that he doesn't want to use her powers because he thinks it'll escalate the war (please ignore the fact that the Empire have been fielding their own super soldier since day one lol).
Then the war escalates anyway and a good chunk of the death that happens after that point falls squarely on Welkin for being a moronic grandstanding moralgay.
I won't deny that. Hell, it's not even as though you can use the "Gallia was a neutral party fighting defensively" excuse as much as I'd like to -- the moment Maximilian pioneered artificial Valkyria tech, it would be moronic not to expect governments everywhere to jump on it (one of the things I'll give VC2 is building on that) and the Feddies were never their friends if the Cornelia kidnapping didn't demonstrate.

Valkyria Chronicles is one of those series where the odd numbered games are the good ones and the even numbered ones are absolute dogshit ones.

In my experience, it has a similar problem to 1: too many capture the flag rush style maps telling you to get to [point] and not enough incentive to engage with the wider area, so back to scout rushing. The new Grenadier class helps somewhat due to overwatch fire slowing you down, but it isn't enough.
It was bad enough to kill the franchise a second time; basically the worst parts of 1 and 2 put together.
IMHO 2 is the absolute worst of the series but 4 is not too far behind.

I was always waiting for a more polished and complete translation, but obviously that's never coming, so might as well play it now. it's been so long since I played 2, I forgot how awful psp controls are. also it's very funny playing a psp game at 4k and seeing super crisp models next to terrible jpgs. is there anything I can do about the seam next to the portrait, or is that just something I've got to put up with?
