Why is this a bad thing? Sorry, jackass, yeah let's turn it into a CoD style shooter with a half-assed battle royale mode and include a Nikki Minaj cameo Operator and for even more players let's add in some Fortnite style platforming and rotating microtransactions too. Frick you Black person. At least we get free DLC that doesn't disappear forever after 5 months time

I think to best understand Lynch you have to watch all 800 hours of the Twin Peaks revival. It’s just pure Lynch completely off the leash. Endless hours of insane, hilarious, ridiculous shit. Alan Wake is like babbys first lynch imposter. Remedy should just try to play at their own level with goofy noir shit but they’re getting too high on their own supply.

    >even though the story goes out of its way to explain why that one thing is not a big deal
Having her be Door's daughter doesn't explain their original choice of having him be a Black person in the first place. There is nothing in the story that necessitates Black folk and you could argue the story actually discourages it with the Viking lore. I might have believed the race choice was chosen completely innocently and without an agenda until I heard the "frick whitey" tantrum she has later on, and don't even start with the cope of "b-but it was her evil side saying it!". Its a fictional story and everything done is because
the creators wanted it that way, not some fictional evil entity.

Ignoring all DEI, while the game graphically is nice and has a good atmosphere and story, the gameplay itself is terrible. Having the flashlight be off center from your gun aim feels terrible. Almost no enemy variety...I think there's maybe 2-3 different enemies in the entire game, humans and wolves? While Alan's parts are fine, playing as the Black person (I honestly can't even remember her name) is extremely boring because there's so much empty space in the world and the surroundings are dull. Not having a fast travel, at least to the car itself, exacerbates the problem and makes it feel like they wanted to pad the game time out with travel time.

So while the "cinematic" parts of the game are good, the gameplay is so bad that it drags the whole thing down. Unfortunately you can apply this critique to most modern AAA games. Seems like all they care about is the wannabe movie part, not the game part.

      Anonymous

Thanks for the serious response. I'm OP and I agree with most of what you have to say, although I don't flip out over any race issues which distract from more important shit.
It's worth mentioning that the first game had at least 1 line about Alan being a white male or some shit, and that was before SBI.

      >Sam Lake was trying so hard to be Lynch
Didn't come across for me at all except on a superficial aestehtic level

All the Overlap sections where the protagonist is walking through the woods while other scenery is superimposed on the scene is lifted wholesale from Twin Peaks The Return.

The director playing a major character who is central to the plot is also from Twin Peaks.

The whole "X character is Y character but really not that character at all" is what Lynch has been doing since the 90s and it's also front and center in this game.

Many, many other things. My homie, pay attention.

        Anonymous

Despite what I said I don't think any of the DEI stuff detracted from the game in any meaningful way as the other gameplay related stuff I mentioned is way more impactful. At this point its so commonplace that I just roll my eyes and move on. The sad part is that the heavy DEI push is going to have the opposite effect that they purport to want from it. I think the actor they got for Door did a good job but because of knowledge of DEI, it makes me think less of the performance, like wondering whether he was actually the best actor or if its just because he was black. Even if he was the best actor, it just makes every time I see black person feel like its artificial or forced. Or put another way, before DEI, I never thought twice when I saw a minority in media, and now, all I can think about is their skin color.

        >t. racist

          I feel the same way.

It's really all a matter of recognizing when something is a problem, and asking yourself whether it's a problem which can be ignored or not.

In the case of a piece of media like AW2, it sucks that this type of shit must be discussed in the first place, because it's literally just ONE problem in a game which is otherwise perfectly fine. Nobody will ever be able to just let it go and move on like they should.

Nice try, but no. I got a 3070. Which will only run near 60fps if I were to use DLSS, but frick that, because that's near the level of moronism such as using FXAA. Might as well play on a console if I wanted to use upscaling.

That benchmark is from launch too. The game runs significantly better now. I have a 3060ti and can run it capped 60 @ 1440p just by turning a few things from max to high/med.

            Anonymous

It does not, 50 fps in the forest area with DLSS quality on High graphics, removing DLSS on High the FPS plummets and the game goes over the 8GB Vram Cache, and starts hitching really bad. Anything higher and it's unplayable.

I'm also living in a age, where DLSS is being used as a crutch by devs to release games with horrible rasterization performance, for visuals that don't look much better than what we've had in the last five years for what? Double the need of computing power? So some random foliage on the ground and a random can of soda outside of the scene can have 900000 tris and so the devs can skip out on caring for lods and culling? Like I said, I'm good, don't have much desire in the game anyways, and the game has nothing that I haven't played already, since I have played the originals? So what does that leave? The presentation which if it requires a 800 dollar card to get to just play that one vidya gayme, it's a hard pass.

NTA, and I agree with your points. However, I believe the game has fantastic writing and profoundly layered symbolism that the first hardly touched on. People keep saying it invokes Lynch, which I agree mostly just in style. In reality, Remedy is a studio that constantly pumps out games that lack in gameplay while being masterpieces of Hermetic allegory. And if anyone disagrees with what I said here, or say it has no backing I will not be bothered. I know they're just midwits who are too lazy to read a book.

You are right about DLSS, sort of, but you're directing it at the completely wrong game. AW2 is one of the most bleeding edge games out there visually, and it's not nearly as demanding on hardware as a lot of other titles that don't look half as good.

No, I agree with him wholesale. I hate /misc/shit and all the contrived dialogue surrounding it, but my troony friend was shilling this game to me for months. As soon as I opened up the character creator I knew what this game was, but still had the good word from my friend and from some YouTube channels I trust saying "just ignore it, it's a non-issue, it's a great game". In reality the game is political propaganda fluffed with cringe Pagan literalism (I'm a Neo-Pythagorean. If you take pagan mythology from a non-abstract sense I instantly believe you're helplessly moronic). It's full of vague references to the old games, and has clunky gameplay that only a hyper-autistic homosexual who hangs around DnD stores would call "good" just because it's extensive and requires a cold, analytical personality to enjoy. The game is padded to the brim with nothing but vague political dialogue that harkens me back to when Steven Universe was on the air and the internet was first getting taken over by gigatrannies from Tumblr and the Pacific Southwest. Don't ever try to play like Baldur's Gate 3 is anything more than what I said here, because I genuinely wanted to like it and this is my observation being a mostly apoltical, fair person otherwise.

Trying to find politics in it is more like trying to interpret the themes and imagery to find out what the creators find normal due to the environment they grew up in, and what kinda books they read that might inform their world view or interests and inferring politics from that.

Inland Empire did not have a plot. I'm not saying this is in a dismissive: it has no story because I don't understand it, type of way. Inland Empire did not have a completed script, according to Dern herself. They were working out of an outline of a story idea, constructing "whatever Lynch wanted that day" with him giving out dialogue for scenes that he had written the day before.

Nah it's bad because it's legit one of the most boring games ever made. Would work better as a youtube series

What goes through the mind of a moronic /misc/cuck who screencaps posts of games he'll never play, which means he'll never be able to confirm if any of it is true? Absolutely nothing. He was never concerned with veracity.

Release a physical copy, or make it significantly cheaper, Sam. I don't give a shit.

Digital games are worth $20 max. Physicals I will spend a little more on, because I can at least resell them if I want to, or give them to friends.
I'm not wavering on those rules.
Game looks cool. To bad though...

well good job incentivizing all publishers to stop selling physical copies

Literally how? I will pay twice as much for physical.

              Anonymous

Because they first have to pay for the disc to be made
then they give 30% of that to the store hosting the game disc
Then the disc has to be shipped around
Then the player will give it to their friend so that friend doesnt pay for the game himself, then the game is sold for some strange and the publisher sees no money from that guy either

Fine. The digital copy costs 20 tho. I'm not buying it for more than that.

you have to account inflation, 20$ in 2000 would be 36$ in 2024

honestly pissed off i even bothered playing it when it released, they updated it for 'more'(as in the complete game) months later after i already finished it, it had a bit more story and more explanations on things

you know you'll just get distracted by something else before dlc comes out and one thing leads to another and then you're dead

Possibly, I have my eye on it and I'm quiet patient. I rarely buy games on release and play them down the line usually. I suppose if the dlc sucks I'll forget it.

      >its not a loop its a spiral
I didn't play the DLC so maybe they explained it but what does it even mean? That it is a loop but every loop it grows more powerful and/or expands further outward?

        Anonymous

Time loops but since changes are made outside of regular time in dark place, there's bound to be something different eventually. You either spiral further down into the darkness, or you ascend from the spiral into the light.
Because everytime Alan dies in the dark place he loops back and forgets everything after a bit, he gets to ever so slightly change something before repeating everything again. And in NG+ Alan's ascension is complete after an unknown number of loops, and he finally breaks past the loop.

Remedy’s issue in my eyes is poor enemy variety, they give players the toops but nothing to really push you and keep the tension up. Like control was better in that regard but still lacking.
There are more issues but more threatening enemies would go a long way.
