silent hill has been dead for 2 console generations, and didn't have any good games on the third
RE has turned into a cashgrab franchise with new shitty ones and remakes coming almost every year. I'm not saying SH isn't guilty of this as well to some extent but it's nowhere near as bad as RE has gotten. I think that's why SH comes across as a more honorable franchise.

RE has ALWAYS been a cashgrab series. Fun fact about RE, there has been either a re-release, spins-off, movie,or new game EVERY year since RE1. There has never a full year since 1996 where we never got a something RE released.
Neither are really scary because there's no real danger. It's all make-believe. You're not going to actually die.

Nobody cared about Silent Hill after the first one, and even then in 1999 people were too busy wanking over Nemesis

Resident Evil had a pretty significant cultural impact too. It really kicked off the zombie renaissance in the late 90s that led directly to stuff like the 2004 Dawn remake, the Walking Dead, and the whole 2000s zombie craze.

RE4 outsold entire Silent Hill series and it was one of main reasons behind over the shoulder camera and aiming becoming standard in third person games.
