By today's standards the gunplay is a bit wonky but the setting is good the story is good the music is good the graphics are good

i played it when i came out in 2007 and it was great. it was very hyped up and all over magazines and stuff at the time. i'm playing prey right now and it reminds me of bioshock a lot.
The trap mechanics added a lot of fun and melee was better. But gun combat was unchanged
I played it probably 10 years ago, and the gameplay felt dated back then.
Also the ending sucks.

I might have nostalgia goggles but I got the game when I was 13 from my brother. It was the first game I played that was spooky and had a real atmosphere to it.
Also one of the few games were the harder difficulty actually makes the game more fun over just frustrating
Yes, it's good but once you get 2/3rds through the game it completely shits the bed. It's also overrated as frick (that doesn't make it bad, mind you)
The second game is vastly superior in every aspect from the gameplay to the story to the characters, so play the first one and if you like it enough, you'll love the second one
Ignore the 3rd game (infinite) and it's dlc. It's a compilation of every bad mid-00s/early-10s console FPS trope with a pretentious and terrible story filled with plot-holes and asspulls at every turn. The only good parts are the art direction, sound design, and the waifu you travel with.
tl;dr: 1 is good, 2 is amazing, only play 3 if you want to see how bad it is.

Also the fact you either have a plasmid equipped, or a weapon. Having both at the same time like in B2 is much more fluid.
