In the same boat here, along with Breath of Fire 3. As a 93 kid, this basically meant a pair of Japanese games with questionable localizations were my teaching materials for English. Weird times.
I'm 31 and while I palyed a bit of the III remake on DS remake when younger, I only really got into it when I did VII during the first covid lockdown. Initially I only planned to do the midgar section to comparate with the remake but I liked the game so much that I did the whole thing.
I had an N64 as a kid bit someone Knew had a PS1 and so I played Final Fantasy 8 on it along with a few other games.
It was the first ever story driven game I played and got me into vidya it's still in my top 10 fave games party for nostalgia but I played it recently and still liked it.
98er and It was the FF Spirits Within movie, then seeting FF X on magazines and almost buying some of the GBA titles and finally playing FFXII which I hated
FF VII CC came soon after and loved It
Then FF XIII and didnt hate It but got bored and I finally became a fan around FF XV release (2015-17?),loved the Game and played all the classics and more.
>How did you get into Final Fantasy
FF8. Ignored FF7 because the fanbase was obnoxious until I got FF7R. Then went back and played original FF7 since I didn't understand anything and loved it. Crisis Core was pretty decent, too, if you ignore everything outside of Zack, Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth.
My friend won a copy of FFII SNES at his church raffle. He hated it and gave it to me. I played the hell out of that game. It was my first foray into a deep, story-driven experience. The characters were deep and I enjoyed seeing their separate redemptions, the music was top notch and had me hooked, and I loved just being in the universe and exploring the imaginative environments. I got even deeper into FFIII SNES and it did everything II did better. The rest is history.
>How did you get into Final Fantasy?
Everyone was praising FF7, so I wanted to try it. But since I'm a PC gamer, I went for the PC version, and I think I might have ran into some issues installing it, or maybe I just didn't like the blocky early PS1 graphics, but I ended up not playing 7. I did however get into IX, which is one of my favorite video games of all time still. I don't remember if X was already out by then or not, but even if it was, PS2 emulation didn't take off just yet, so I wouldn't be able to play it anyway. So I went backwards. Couldn't get into VIII, but I played VII, VI, IV and V. All great games. They don't make JRPGs like that no more nowadays.
I also played through DQXI, but honestly, didn't get the praise. It was a game primitive in all aspects. If the rest of the series is just more of that, I don't regret getting into the genre with FF and not DQ.
I only play on emulation. My first FF game was FFTA. It really set the tone for FF for me, and I'm glad I was wrong about all FF being set in Ivalice.
I finished I and II, and tried III - VI but dropped halfway for all of them, although I know the general story. I was a bit edgy back then and was upset that VII eclipsed VI in popularity, although I do understand it now. I never played VII before but got hooked by 7R just last month. Now I'm trying to finish Disc 1 before Rebirth release.
I want to play Final Fantasy 10 & 10-2 but the English voice acting is so bad. I'm not even a weeb, it's just cringeworthy voice acting that takes me out of the game and makes me want to mute it or stop playing.
7 on PS1 when it launched because of the insane commercials, and then burned through anthology (5/6) + 8 + origins (1/2) + 9 + chronicles (4/crono trigger) all by the time FFX came out on the PS2.
Og ff7, I was born in 96 but I listened to my older brothers and uncles recommendations. Thankfully I got past the “turn based is boring” phase and got to enjoy some of the best gaming experiences ever at a young age.
FFVI (III) on SNES in the early 90s. I thought I had gotten a new copy but when I started it there was already a save file where you pick the different parties the first time. VII was the first one I actually finished I think? I beat all of them except for a few of the early ones since then.
I put a shit ton of hours in the original Crisis Core. Is the new one worth trying? I won't have the time but maybe later. I just remember running around the edges of maps and spamming Goblin Punch in the endgame nonstop.
Endgame is the same except you are probably thinking of costly punch. If not, you will end up using costly punch as it is better (I don't think goblin works on Minerva etc.)
I enjoyed it myself.
Yeah that's the one. It drove me crazy but I finished it. Don't think I have it in me to do it again. Maybe do just a story playthrough but Zack doesn't sound as good anymore.

I find it fascinating that a game doesn't have any fans who aren't autistic.
So since I answered your questions twice, let me ask you: Are you a fan of crisis core and do you have autism, or some other neurological or emotional instability?

Neither of these two but you seem extremely autistic considering how you love changing the subject to fight against a "fascinating" boogeyman whatever that means. Games have autistic fans. You are one of them

Think again, why should the company appease to a dozen purists who will simply turrn around and say "Thanks I hate it" for everything they do, when they got a massive Kingdom Hearts fandom who will pay for anything with Cloud's face on it?
some people hate the compilation so much they want to de-canonize it through sheer force of wishful thinking and go full XV-kun on every 7R thread to profess their love for Sakaguchi and whine that people keep "defending" 7R, CC and every other compilation thing.
why should I say why I like advent children anyway? anything I say about it will be invalidated because muh taste. consider the plot here: it puts an effort to build upon the orriginal and doesn't merely reeenact the game's events. this by itself is a good thing for me, because I'm a compilationgay who wants to see the VII canon grow into an autism multiverse.

Typos happen, get over it.
It makes perfect sense. You're here at any given time on a Thursday (meaning I don't know where you live, but it's probably Thursday there, the middle of the work week). And you're shitposting. You're not here to engage with the actual topic, you're here to fling shit, collect (you)s, disginenously argue until everyone else leaves the thread, and then claim your "victory".

>But it doesn't make sense to see a shitpost and assume they spend their whole lives here on the grounds that it's a Thursday
It does when the shitpost lines up with other similar shitposts in the thread and is nearly identical word for word of other shitposts I've seen over the last few weeks in Rebirth threads.
And while I'm here on a random thursday at any given time, I'm here to discuss games and engage in the topics at hand. I'm not here to randomly shitpost and argue disingenuously until a thread clears out from the stupidity. There's a massive difference. I even give shitposters the benefit of the doubt that maybe they're just a bit dumb but well meaning and try to engage with them like rational people, but that rarely if ever actually works.

It sounds like you're here a lot more than me and have had to put up with a lot of black and white morons who think if you criticize remake or compilation you're a purist. I have to hope they're being disingenuous and don't really believe something so stupid.
I still don't really know what you mean by this "posting on a random Thursday" thing. (What's a "random" Thursday?) But I'm glad someone else here actually wants to discuss these games properly.

>Are you a fan of Crisis Core?
It's fine. It's absolutely a handheld game and you can tell by the way it's structured, A lot of the expanded lore involving Genesis and Angeal and all that is fricking moronic.
I played OG7 the week it came out on PS1 and CC the day it came out on PSP, so by the time CC came out I was already well versed in the FF7 story and lore.

Agreed mostly. I think it works best if you don't bother with the optional stuff. The gameplay isn't interesting enough to sustain it that long. Genesis is the poster child for bad FF7 lore but Angeal is much, much worse. Genesis is a good idea badly executed. Drop the poetry and he's pretty much fine.
I'm glad you started talking about the game instead of schizoposting about Thursdays or whatever.

If that's what you took from my post then you are indeed a shitposter here wasting your life on any given time on a Thursday.
Started with FFTA on the GBA. It was amazing, got it as a christmas gift, played it religiously. Nobody believed me for a long time when I told them completing all 300 missions unlocks secret judge missions where you recruit Cid.
Went on to play FFT and FF12 much later, devoured everything ivalice. Love the setting. Tried some other FFs but didn't like them much. FFX was alright because the turn based combat was pretty good. Years later a friend convinced me to play FF7 remake and it was just ok.
Went back to play the original FF7 and thought it was significantly better than the remake and I decided not to get Rebirth because it so far looks like a massive disappointment drowning in shitty decisions like open world instead of having an overworld, the UI looks horrible, the changes to the plot are unnecessary and clash with the original narrative and I'm certain it'll waste my time with a lot of anti-fun padding like the first part. Not worth my time.
For me my mom brought me to a party. And the older brother of my friend had a copy of FF7. And it looked fricking amazing. For reference that was right in the middle of Pokemania so seeing Neo Bahamut raise up the ground and then vaporize the enemy on it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. But the box didn't really explain the game super well so I didn't know what it was about, I only remembered the name "Final Fantasy VEE EYE EYE." Fast forward a year or so and I found a copy of Final Fantasy at my local EB Games. Although actually there were two games: FF7 and FF9, which was new at the time. I got a copy of FF7 since it was cheap. That became a foundational game for me and Cloud is probably my favorite fictional character of all time.
>How did you get into Final Fantasy?
My dad's friend gave me 'The Advent Children' movie when I was a kid, and after that, a friend gave me the FFVII game.
X on PS2 as a kid, went back to play a few of the others as a teen (IV, VII, VIII)
XIII was shit, though XIII-2 wasn't bad.
MMO is crap and XV was boring.
Haven't played 16 yet and won't be getting Rebirth on release (I'm waiting for PC)
Crystal Chronicles with some friends who also enjoyed the mainline games. I tried 12 but thought it was shit, wasn't until later that I gave 7 and 10 a try and liked them a lot more.
I literally just got into the series after giving FF7 Remake a chance and binging through it. Never took Final Fantasy seriously and always brushed it off as that boring weeb game.
Finished disc 1 on FF8, haven't continued, now I'm playing through FF10 and just made it to Luca. I'm actually enjoying it. Probably only gonna try 13 and 15 before Rebirth releases.
Your experience is wild to me for several reasons. One being that rpgs and jrpgs are the best genre of games, and japs just make the best games in general, so what the hell have you been playing all this time, and secondly, that a bad game like ff7 remake is the one that gets you hooked. Crazy stuff man.
I couldn't into turn based as a kid I was too busy playing up GTA 4/Halo 3/Fallout3, or anything from Valve so I just never got into jrpgs. I just played a ton of western stuff for the past 15 years. Resident Evil is the only notable thing from Japan I really loved. I got hooked on FF7R because it's pretty to look at and the combat system made sense to me pretty easily.
>13 and 15
literally why
13 gives me nostalgia feels so I want to try and sit through it, I remember walking into my local Blockbuster as a kid and seeing rows of FF13 on the shelves next to Soulcalibur 4. The cover art was interesting but I just never gave it a chance.
I started pretty late with 10, which was also my first RPG. I then worked my way up from 5 to 13 and I thought most of those were pretty good games. Then I started playing other Jrpg series and I realized most of those completely blew FF out of the water, outside of the graphics department.
I'd visit my uncle with my brother when I was a kid and one day, he had a PS1, Bio Freaks and FF7. Coming off the Genesis, these games were mindblowing. Not sure I even knew about the PS1 back then. He let us play whenever we came over and eventually just gave them all to us. RIP.
FFVII on my ps1.

Not only is this misspelled but it makes no sense.
But I agree that anyone who uses a purist strawman in response to any criticism of remake or compilation is a moronic shitposter with the mind of a child.
>Not only is this misspelled but it makes no sense.
I'm not the same anon you dummy, I'm agreeing with you that the guy you're arguing with is an idiot.
But it doesn't make sense to see a shitpost and assume they spend their whole lives here on the grounds that it's a Thursday. I can just as easily assume you spend your whole life here, but you probably don't. I hope so anyway.
Did you play it before or after the OG?
I'm glad you started talking about the game instead of schizoposting about Thursdays or whatever.
>if you post on a Thursday you're a shitposter with no life
Uhh
Are you sure this makes sense
If that's what you took from my post then you are indeed a shitposter here wasting your life on any given time on a Thursday.
It doesn't, but he keeps saying it
At this point, this dude is more cringe than Barry. At least Barry/Jimbo have made me laugh with his or their antics.
I kind of miss jimbo. He's here so rarely after going to therapy. But I'm happy he got some help.
he probably killed himself when FF16 got the surprise DLC dropped on us.
>I kind of miss jimbo.
What's there to miss? He's right here
Started with FFTA on the GBA.
Same, I can't stand them.
FF7 on PS1 the bombing mission at my uncle's house. But the first FF game I got myself was 8. I didn't play 7 until years later on PSP.
How many posts will we get to before his autistic conversation with himself is deleted?
I'm betting 134 myself.
compilationgays are hopeless.
I blame kingdom hearts.
My older cousin playing ff7 and burn a copy for me shame he fell into drugs
Which FF fan is most likely to be bald and which is most likely to have hair? Between these games 7,8,9,10.
Thats a crap options put at least the snes games
9 is most likely to be bald.
Why is that?
too much time watching battle animations or playing chocobo hot-and-cold and not enough time showering their scalp, perhaps
It's a norwood game
How many times do you think Zack creampied Aerith's pussy?
0 by crisis core cutscenes he got the big boss depression in the time skip
Idk him but cloud...
is a canon effeminate cuck.
its pure newhomosexualry but my first experience with ff7 was cloud/yuffie/aerith/cid in kingdom hearts
then years later played crisis core on psp which i liked a lot
Only played the og ff7 and remake this year in preparation for rebirths release, had great fun with both
>How did you get into Final Fantasy?
My dad's friend gave me 'The Advent Children' movie when I was a kid, and after that, a friend gave me the FFVII game.
I started with Remake, then played original and watched AC and CC
>For me? It was Crisis Core.
Same
FF1 on PS1. I played them sequentially through 7 till I broke order to play XV, which I regret playing.
I only started getting into jrpgs at the tail end of the snes lifespan so it unfortunately was 7 for me instead of something kino like 4 or 6.
>13 and 15
literally why
Your experience is wild to me for several reasons. One being that rpgs and jrpgs are the best genre of games, and japs just make the best games in general, so what the hell have you been playing all this time, and secondly, that a bad game like ff7 remake is the one that gets you hooked. Crazy stuff man.
Not everyone is as autistic as you.
13 gives me nostalgia feels so I want to try and sit through it, I remember walking into my local Blockbuster as a kid and seeing rows of FF13 on the shelves next to Soulcalibur 4. The cover art was interesting but I just never gave it a chance.
>I'm here to discuss games
>doesn't discuss games
I guess it was projection all along
I started pretty late with 10, which was also my first RPG. I then worked my way up from 5 to 13 and I thought most of those were pretty good games. Then I started playing other Jrpg series and I realized most of those completely blew FF out of the water, outside of the graphics department.
I'd visit my uncle with my brother when I was a kid and one day, he had a PS1, Bio Freaks and FF7. Coming off the Genesis, these games were mindblowing. Not sure I even knew about the PS1 back then. He let us play whenever we came over and eventually just gave them all to us. RIP.
FFIV on SNES. 1991 so I was in 4th grade.
