I'm over 10 hours in now, gotten a plethora of endings and the almost-ending of the Wild. Just completing other paths and exploring options now. I just got to here and I have to say, this line captures my conclusion perfectly.
Is there a secret "true" ending resulting from the right combination of princesses or answers? So far I've found >Just Leave (Soft/Harsh/Stranger) >Leave Together (Liberation) >Slay The Princess (Leave as a god) >Infinite Loop >"Good" Ending >Return to Nothing
The top 4 are a given, seemingly always options so long as you finish the game. The bottom 2 took some effort but don't seem very meaningful. With the Wild, Long Quiet and Shifting Mound were returned to one entity and almost broke free, but as that SM was only a perspective, the real Shifting Mound stopped us. Is there a way that makes it work? Steam says I'm missing 6 hidden Achievements, but I think those are just more vessel achievements.
There is no true ending; the game tells you that there are no wrong choices.
And as anon above me says, there is a minor variant to the Slay/Unending Dawn ending, by being not nice to the voices at the end of each path, at the mirror.
You've pretty much seen all the endings, and again, since the game claims there is no wrong answers, that means there are no definite and true endings.
There's no "true" ending. They are all perspectives, your perspectives. You decide which one you like most. I wouldn't say Wild was Shifty but rather, one aspect of her, and you're still meeting the princess first before reaching to Wild, thus in the midst of giving Shifty perspectives.
I used to nearly faint when I saw blood in real life or extremely painful wounds in fiction up until a couple years ago, so I had to stop reading for a while after getting The Tower scene and the one where she cuts her hand in quick succession.
It's more like the suffering associated with the blood/gore than just the blood. I don't mind if there's a pool of blood with someone dead in it, or if multiple people are shot and start bleeding like crazy, but something like getting your throat carved in and gurgling with your own blood or getting something stuck on your chest and being unable to remove it or shit like that is what really gets to me. I had a pretty bad time with Logan, The Impossible or even Don't Breathe 2 (a guy gets his mouth and nose glued in and has his throat perforred to be able to breath), but I can watch shit like John Wick or Pulp Fiction without any problem

A pretty common consensus is that her voice work in the proper routes is better than the stuff we saw in the demos. Personally Spectre, Razor and a spoiler character are my favorite performances from her.

NTA, that sounds a bit too long. Sure, some routes are longer than others, but not all of them. I've say an average of 3-ish hours is pretty accurate, depending on your speed of play.

I finished my first playthrough in a bit less than 3 hours, but I skipped a bunch of dialogue options at the stars because I had already played the demo before. But as the Anon above said, the game HEAVILY encourages doing multiple routes, which you get by picking different dialogue options. Choices actually matter in the game. Even doing something just a bit different can change your route drastically
It's a short VN that encourages multiple playthroughs because of how much the game branches out. It has some neat horror elements and some genuinely sweet romance moments. It is not a meta trash zoomer game despite appearances to the contrary and it has a core theme that isn't "fiction is... le fake".
well okay, then I agree with other anon, power dynamics. If you could call it that, the word "power dynamic" makes me think of comparing physical strength, or the dominant control of the situation, which is wierd because of how easily the situation can change. I think the question is asking which of the two characters (forget the Narrator, he's just one-dimensional and hardly cares about anything else) is given more focus on; the Princess, or the Slayer with his voices.
I personally say both equally, even if the Princess is shown to be really determined and often ends winning over you, but only when you don't (or can't) do it first. Hesitation is defeat.
That's a weird question to answer because the central premise gives the male character a lot of power, but the routes tend to heavily feature a femdom dynamic.

Oh yeah if you don't like ongoing stuff in general it's definitely not for you. He doesn't have a set schedule for it so you have little clue as to when a chapter is going to come out. We've had periods where he released like 5 chapters in a month, and then periods of no chapters for 1 or 2 months. Still overall he's been consistent since the volume releases are spread about evenly apart.

It's like a fusion of 90s x-men, 80s coming of age stories and extremely cool weird/eldritch aesthetics.
It's especially cool if you like bird related themes, given that both MC and a major historical figure are bird choujins.

I don't know why they even made that channel, since making it PG13 means that any actual thirstposting will be banned. I take it they don't want the liability of dealing with predators, but at that point just not have the channel to begin with.
Tower would never let herself moan, though, because that would be admitting she's lost control over herself. Best you'd get out of her is some slightly strained breathing or, of you're really lucky, stifled whimpers that she'll never admit happened and gets angry about when asked.
I can't decide if Razor would shriek and moan absurdly loud, if she would be absolutely silent and just stare directly into your soul the entire experience. It's one of those two extremes, no inbetween.
Razor does something new on each attempt, first time is shriek and moan, second time is silent stare, third time is a giggle fit growing into nonstop laughter, fourth time is screaming, fifth time is much like the first time but she randomly punches your balls and so on and so fourth.
prisoner would probably be pretty loud too, I bet she keeps a lot held in and once you get her going she'd get really into it. Deadfish until like a third of the way through. If you actually managed to pleasure tower (maybe if you were her size) she would probably moan like a b***h in a similar way and hate it.

If you come back to this, have the second panel show the pristine blade in plain sight (like held in his hand near his head) so she has reason to realize that's not the "blade" down below.

Yeah, you're right about that. Given the current shared Chapter 3 routes and the poem in Stranger, Razor should actually share a route with Stranger. Now, they're both routes that focus on "choice" and how it doesn't matter (Razor skewers you no matter your actions and with Stranger nothing you do matters bc you end up do everything) but I'm not sure if there's a way to put the two together that wouldn't end up contradicting that concept in some way.
with how well the game and the paths fits together I think they should just make a separate DLC that unlocks after you get enough endings, with extra princess from extra actions. Basically a bunch of "what-if" stuff could be added in, like lamb, or really any variation in you want. Maybe you could flirt with more princesses you couldn't before, maybe a couple of funny, gimmick chapters.

well it's based off the first princess you meet in the cabin, in chapter 1. Harsh if you took the knife, gentle if you didn't. Stranger probably only applies you didn't in fact see the princess in chapter 1 during the stranger route. I don't think it's supposed to be similar to damsel and prisoner, they just are. The "gentle" end cabin prisoner isn't naive and is able to think for herself, she just outwardly kind to you and expresses nervousness. The "harsh" princess isn't as curt as prisoner. She will response to your feelings with her own when you show them, and likes being with you, if a bit skeptical.

Damsel and Prisoner are perspectives produced of the same line of action; trying to free her with all your determination, but failing because the Narrator is at his strongest, with the Hero being the passive skeptic that he is and not being able to fight back.
What you end up with are the, essentially, purest idea of the Princess possible; even with the rather disinterested and distant Cold/Harsh Princess, she's a lot more amicable as the Prisoner, just in a worse position.
Damsel is when you shut out every suggestion of the Narrator, creating that ideal Princess you want to and CAN rescue.
Prisoner is when you took the knife, and that affected your perception of the Princess, yet despite her actions and the Narrator's insistence, you think she's worth rescuing. You ignore MOST of the Narrator at this point, with the only difference being picking up the blade, regardless you were following his instructions or not.
What results are Princesses that are closest to their Chapter I selves, who want to leave the Cabin (though Damsel's derealization is a product of your desire to understand the Damsel when there is nothing to understand; She Just Wants To Make You Happy.)
Every other Ch.II Princess has a negative view of you due to your actions, whether that you stab her first or try to lock her away (the route where she escapes past you and locks you away, leading into the Witch, counts). They become monstrous, hostile, or strange (Spectre, who is willing to be friendly but as she always points you, you did stab her dead, killer.)
tl;dr Damsel and Prisoner are the CLOSEST they become to their Chapter I selves, but still changed because the Narrator has forced your hand and they are threatened by your involuntary action. Your death resets the world, but you remember. And that creates a new perspective.

Are nightmaregays basically the rarest princess fans? I never see them in these threads It might be a bit too fanservice-y, but she could use a more romantic/intimate route a la Witch>Thorn. I remember Shifty describing her as longing for affection, so it would be cool to explore that angle and see her open up

I'd argue the exact opposite: Nightmare has the most complex personality of all the Princesses. Her entire thing is putting up a front (lit. hiding behind a mask) to cover her true feelings, only knowing how to interact via pain and horror because she's desperate to engage with you and you tried to deny every other way for her to do that. It's kinda telling that Spectre, Razor and Adversary are significantly happier with the Long Quiet than Nightmare: the worst thing you can do to the Princess isn't killing her, it's refusing to connect to her.

What I should've said is that the dynamic doesn't have much room for fleshing out. The second you try to get close to Nightmare, the dynamic unravels for the most part. Which is the irony behind it all I suppose
Yeah. Apparently you going through the trippy sequence pre-Moment of Clarity is her revealing her true self to you, and that breaks you. Nightmare wants to get close but is utterly unable to: she's the saddest Princess.
With the way the game keeps track of how you the routes end, I wonder if they could have made the endings more advanced than just the three-way stranger/harsh/gentle based on the first chapter.
Like if you passed a threshold for Princess_deny you get the sinister looking one or passing one for Princess_kept she ends up as the emo one
It is: they talked about it in the AMA, and the original plan was to have you go back and "complete" each Princess's route during the final Shifty conversation, but they felt it bloated the final section of the game + they were running out of time, so it got scrapped. The final part where the Princesses return and you see from their perspective was added last minute as a replacement.
Would've been a huge improvement had they went that route. I like the game a lot but it kinda sucks how there's only 4 different Princesses: nice, kind, stranger and shifty, no matter which route you take. And the former two are barely any different. The flashback during the Shifty talk-no-jutsu for each route you get is nice, but I would prefer proper endings.

I think Razor realises that she changes based on your perception first of all the Princesses way back in chapter 1, given she either suddenly has a knife out of nowhere or comes back from the dead to shank you, which are both significantly abrupt and pretty much gives the game away from her perspective. Her final "reveal", too, sounds a lot like she's egging the Long Quiet on to see what he comes up with. So if she does know that, she tries to stamp down on you manifesting blades in places she does not want blades to be.

Yeah, everything about her is sharp. Her shoulders are also very noticeably pointed as opposed to the usual slopes of the other Princesses, and her face is more gaunt than the others. Even her hair is designed with this philosophy in mind, with the waves being so extreme that they practically become points themselves. Her entire design is meant to be subtly uninviting and convey this air of wild danger. I really like how they handled it, and it becomes really noticeable when you compare her to Damsel who was designed with almost the exact opposite approach (i.e. everything is gentle curves and she has a cute plump face). Really puts into perspective how smart the character design is in this game, and the steps the artist went to help differentiate the various Princess forms (especially the ones that could have very easily ended up feeling interchangeable).

The top 4 are a given, seemingly always options so long as you finish the game. The bottom 2 took some effort but don't seem very meaningful. With the Wild, Long Quiet and Shifting Mound were returned to one entity and almost broke free, but as that SM was only a perspective, the real Shifting Mound stopped us. Is there a way that makes it work? Steam says I'm missing 6 hidden Achievements, but I think those are just more vessel achievements.
There's an extra variant of the Slay the Princess ending, but other than that you've got everything
There is no true ending; the game tells you that there are no wrong choices.
And as anon above me says, there is a minor variant to the Slay/Unending Dawn ending, by being not nice to the voices at the end of each path, at the mirror.
You've pretty much seen all the endings, and again, since the game claims there is no wrong answers, that means there are no definite and true endings.

There's no "true" ending. They are all perspectives, your perspectives. You decide which one you like most. I wouldn't say Wild was Shifty but rather, one aspect of her, and you're still meeting the princess first before reaching to Wild, thus in the midst of giving Shifty perspectives.
I used to nearly faint when I saw blood in real life or extremely painful wounds in fiction up until a couple years ago, so I had to stop reading for a while after getting The Tower scene and the one where she cuts her hand in quick succession.

I had a pretty bad time with Logan, The Impossible or even Don't Breathe 2 (a guy gets his mouth and nose glued in and has his throat perforred to be able to breath), but I can watch shit like John Wick or Pulp Fiction without any problem

Haven't finished the game yet but honestly the voice acting is very hit or miss. It doesn't help that the levels are all over the place, I keep having to play with the audio levels every 20 minutes because sometimes the voices are too low, while sometimes the princess's voice is fricking loud.
Recording quality and the mixing are very hit or miss. VA itself is hit the majority of the time, I'd say.
Agreed that the vocaroos sound better though (sounds a bit like Carla Gugino). Maybe the mixing is the problem.

I'd recognize that style of shading anywhere. TG is one of the few manga I physically own in its entirety. I adore Sui Ishida's art.
Choujin X is more similar to his previous work PENISMAN than it is to tokyo ghoul, but it's still one of my favorite ongoing manga.
TG nearly broke him, so I can understand why'd he go for something different this time around. But I hate reading ongoing works, so I'll wait until it's finished.
Oh yeah if you don't like ongoing stuff in general it's definitely not for you. He doesn't have a set schedule for it so you have little clue as to when a chapter is going to come out. We've had periods where he released like 5 chapters in a month, and then periods of no chapters for 1 or 2 months. Still overall he's been consistent since the volume releases are spread about evenly apart.
Sounds like he's unlikely to burn himself out, like he did with TQ, so that's good.

It's like a fusion of 90s x-men, 80s coming of age stories and extremely cool weird/eldritch aesthetics.

Razor is in a weird spot where her route is linear but you're essentially getting 3 chapters of the same Princess which gives her a lot of material.
Razor and Spectre are almost polar opposites in regards to their personality. I'm not sure how you could give them a shared route and make it feel natural to both.
Yeah, you're right about that. Given the current shared Chapter 3 routes and the poem in Stranger, Razor should actually share a route with Stranger. Now, they're both routes that focus on "choice" and how it doesn't matter (Razor skewers you no matter your actions and with Stranger nothing you do matters bc you end up do everything) but I'm not sure if there's a way to put the two together that wouldn't end up contradicting that concept in some way.
with how well the game and the paths fits together I think they should just make a separate DLC that unlocks after you get enough endings, with extra princess from extra actions. Basically a bunch of "what-if" stuff could be added in, like lamb, or really any variation in you want. Maybe you could flirt with more princesses you couldn't before, maybe a couple of funny, gimmick chapters.

I guess since they're the most humanoid? The personalities definitely don't match, Damsel isn't gentle in the same way as the soft Princess is and Prisoner w/o her chains wouldn't even wait for you before she'd be running out.
well it's based off the first princess you meet in the cabin, in chapter 1. Harsh if you took the knife, gentle if you didn't. Stranger probably only applies you didn't in fact see the princess in chapter 1 during the stranger route. I don't think it's supposed to be similar to damsel and prisoner, they just are. The "gentle" end cabin prisoner isn't naive and is able to think for herself, she just outwardly kind to you and expresses nervousness. The "harsh" princess isn't as curt as prisoner. She will response to your feelings with her own when you show them, and likes being with you, if a bit skeptical.
Damsel and Prisoner are perspectives produced of the same line of action; trying to free her with all your determination, but failing because the Narrator is at his strongest, with the Hero being the passive skeptic that he is and not being able to fight back.
What you end up with are the, essentially, purest idea of the Princess possible; even with the rather disinterested and distant Cold/Harsh Princess, she's a lot more amicable as the Prisoner, just in a worse position.
Damsel is when you shut out every suggestion of the Narrator, creating that ideal Princess you want to and CAN rescue.
Prisoner is when you took the knife, and that affected your perception of the Princess, yet despite her actions and the Narrator's insistence, you think she's worth rescuing. You ignore MOST of the Narrator at this point, with the only difference being picking up the blade, regardless you were following his instructions or not.
What results are Princesses that are closest to their Chapter I selves, who want to leave the Cabin (though Damsel's derealization is a product of your desire to understand the Damsel when there is nothing to understand; She Just Wants To Make You Happy.)
Every other Ch.II Princess has a negative view of you due to your actions, whether that you stab her first or try to lock her away (the route where she escapes past you and locks you away, leading into the Witch, counts). They become monstrous, hostile, or strange (Spectre, who is willing to be friendly but as she always points you, you did stab her dead, killer.)
tl;dr Damsel and Prisoner are the CLOSEST they become to their Chapter I selves, but still changed because the Narrator has forced your hand and they are threatened by your involuntary action. Your death resets the world, but you remember. And that creates a new perspective.

I'd argue the exact opposite: Nightmare has the most complex personality of all the Princesses. Her entire thing is putting up a front (lit. hiding behind a mask) to cover her true feelings, only knowing how to interact via pain and horror because she's desperate to engage with you and you tried to deny every other way for her to do that. It's kinda telling that Spectre, Razor and Adversary are significantly happier with the Long Quiet than Nightmare: the worst thing you can do to the Princess isn't killing her, it's refusing to connect to her.

With the way the game keeps track of how you the routes end, I wonder if they could have made the endings more advanced than just the three-way stranger/harsh/gentle based on the first chapter.

It is: they talked about it in the AMA, and the original plan was to have you go back and "complete" each Princess's route during the final Shifty conversation, but they felt it bloated the final section of the game + they were running out of time, so it got scrapped. The final part where the Princesses return and you see from their perspective was added last minute as a replacement.
Would've been a huge improvement had they went that route. I like the game a lot but it kinda sucks how there's only 4 different Princesses: nice, kind, stranger and shifty, no matter which route you take. And the former two are barely any different. The flashback during the Shifty talk-no-jutsu for each route you get is nice, but I would prefer proper endings.

About the only thing I'd want out of it is for you to try to talk to her when she's trapped, but that doesn't feel like enough in and off itself to warrant changes. Excited for this one the most.

Finally found the reply in the AMA: reddit's decision to hide comment chains makes searching it a pain in the arse.

I think there's room for Spooky Princess or Emo Princess as options to branch off from a 'second choice' like the knife on like, your third run. The spooky angry one would come off of choosing both 'dangerous' options, and the emo would come off of no knife and choosing something about how she's trapped there
In Stranger, though, it seems like the one that leads to Emo is 'remaining upstairs', like Nightmare but without ever seeing her face, and the sinister princess steals the knife from you and kills you. I wonder what chapter 2s could branch off of those?

I think Razor realises that she changes based on your perception first of all the Princesses way back in chapter 1, given she either suddenly has a knife out of nowhere or comes back from the dead to shank you, which are both significantly abrupt and pretty much gives the game away from her perspective. Her final "reveal", too, sounds a lot like she's egging the Long Quiet on to see what he comes up with. So if she does know that, she tries to stamp down on you manifesting blades in places she does not want blades to be.

One of my favorite line reads in the game.
Yeah, everything about her is sharp. Her shoulders are also very noticeably pointed as opposed to the usual slopes of the other Princesses, and her face is more gaunt than the others. Even her hair is designed with this philosophy in mind, with the waves being so extreme that they practically become points themselves. Her entire design is meant to be subtly uninviting and convey this air of wild danger. I really like how they handled it, and it becomes really noticeable when you compare her to Damsel who was designed with almost the exact opposite approach (i.e. everything is gentle curves and she has a cute plump face). Really puts into perspective how smart the character design is in this game, and the steps the artist went to help differentiate the various Princess forms (especially the ones that could have very easily ended up feeling interchangeable).
