All of the non-echo newcomers were fairly good additions imo. Even then, I liked Richter was added too, and Ken feels fairly distinct from Ryu at this point both in and out of Smash. I do wish Richter had more differences between him and Simon however.
As for DLC, DQ Heroes and Terry are fricking awesome additions, 10/10 for me. Kazuya is fantastic, Sephiroth is cooler than I thought he'd be, and Byleth is more fun to play than I anticipated. Banjo is fun, Piranha Plant is fun. The rest of the DLC ranges from meh to crappy for me personally. Joker was a let down, as I was hoping more Megaten content would follow, or at the very least some music from other parts of the franchise too. Hell, there wasn't even a Jack Frost spirit.
If he worked with SNK to make Nintendo vs SNK, I bet it'd be great. At minimum for the next game, I'd love it if Geese got added to Smash. Kyo would be a cool KOF rep.

Second opponent in the original arcade version of Yie-ar Kung Fu and its obscure GBA multiplayer-including pseudo-remake. She spams ninja stars and you have to hit each of them with height-appropriate moves to approach her, or you can just try to jump over to her. The game also includes another female character, Fan, who spams fan throws at you at a faster pace but three at a time compared to Star's continuous pace. The mentioned pseudo-remake adds Bishoo, who spams arrows at an even faster pace. Only the female characters use projectiles, unless you decide to count Chain.

anywho I would LOVE an engine that emulates the original Smash 64 grimy comic book style, something like Fighters Z I guess, with cartoonish animations like Mario Wonder, but I think the problem with that is difficulties with the camera feature
is funny how Smash was original advertised as if it was a Mario spinoff, with the famous mascot commerial being, Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and just outside of Mario, Pikachu among them, also "Super Smash Bros." sounds like a play on word for Super Mario Bros. to begin with
Pretty much, most people I see who say that they "want a reboot" just want the game to become competitive tournament fodder when that's not what Smash is meant to be at the end of the day. I feel like such a game would have the opposite issue Brawl had when it comes to the casual-competitive balance; it would have a lot of good gameplay feel and depth, but it'd be drowned out by people upset that their favorite characters are gone or replaced with someone they didn't like, along with the lineup feeling very restrictive.
While I doubt it would happen, I feel that a "best of both worlds" scenario would involve two games; one would be a normal sequel to Ultimate, keeping most of its cast wherever possible, while the other would be a spinoff game done by a different devteam (ideally the boys back at HAL) that has radically different gameplay (I'm thinking a 3D affair similar to Power Stone and its sequel) and a much different, more Nintendo-pure roster.
I feel that would leave most people satisfied, but I could always be wrong.

It always drove me crazy as a kid that the clip of Pikachu on the pokeball as someone walked by had the scale all wrong. Pikachu is much bigger than that.

Being fair, isn't Smash kinda of an outlier regarding fighting game sequels? Your average Street fighters and Mortal Kombats tend to somewhat start from scratch each game, removing, adding and tweaking characters. Smash instead builds up over what they already had design wise, that's how we end with a game where a character has a 64 era moveset and it can fight c**ts with modern fighting game design sensibilities and mechanics lifted straight out from their games.
yeah I think they been using the same engine since Melee which would be impressive, I guess is balanced out how Smash typically has way more content

The Min Min appreciation in the last thread really surprised me, here’s my other defense for her,
Min Min’s Trailer gave a different side Captain Falcon while being a crossover with other characters and having a sense of mystery and faking us out with Springman and all the other Arms characters. Byleth’s trailer does none of that.
I feel like I'm the only one annoyed by Ryu's inclusion, like I get it but at the same time it feels like Capcom should've fricked off and let Megaman have his moment for once in Smash 4 but they just had get their Ryu in their too

Chrom is a literal joke that really doesnt become funny when the second punchline that is Byleth, the last character of 1st pass, hyped up by the dev team, comes. If it was just the former it would be bearable, but the latter just ruine them both. I dont even hate FE, they just seem to manage to make the worst choices when it comes to smash character choice and timing.

The more I think about it, the more I think Kazuya was the worst one besides Joker. One of the weakest Nintendo links, not getting anything on the Switch after being added, not having the same Smash inspiration excuse as Terry, and not being highly requested enough to partially justify it. Why is he here?
Bamco helped develop Smash and if it weren’t for the Sora Disney Deal, Kazuya would’ve been our last character and that would’ve been funny and interesting to see reactions to him being our last.
Everyone talks about the characters, but nobody ever mentions how bland and uninspired most of their stages are. They seem to have wanted to appeal to competitive gays who get hyped when they see final destination with a single platform floating above it, only to quickly declare it banned and continue playing on the same 5 stages they've used since 2008. Frick them. Hollow Bastion could have actually taken place IN Hollow Bastion instead of on a random platform with a gif of Hollow Bastion playing in the background. Stages should feel like you're in the location in question, not just using it as a background.

Smash has a real problem with using the same archetypes over and over and over again. It wasn't such a big deal before, when older content phased out in favor of newer stuff. But when Everything Is Here, the redundancies become blatant.
Pokemon has a similar problem, with just choosing [current starter] as a gamble when they have plenty of actually popular pokemons to pick, sure is not as bad as FE though
that being said, I really wouldn't mind if Pokemon would have a rotating roster, what I mean by that is somehing like

Ike is an edgy mercenary, and he plays like a heavy with a sword.
Robin is mage and an incarnation of an evil god, and their playstyle focuses on projectiles and resource management.
While Corrin is royalty, like everyone in the Marth family, they are also part manakete and this is reflected is their more unconventional dragon moves.
Byleth is a professor and emotionless child of a humonculi, and their usage of all weapons gives them an interesting mix of different fighting styles.
Everyone outside marth family has pretty unique fighting style, and all of them are pretty different as far as their actual characters go too. If most people were honest with themselves, they'd realize they just hate that a franchise they dont like gets more attention than the ones they do like. You want to know what's really bad? Fighters that are essentially the same exact person. Link is in the roster 3 times and Mario is in it twice.

Frick that I want a Mario Party Stage where you hit dice blocks that show up and grant you items or status ailments good or bad like Hero Hocus Pocus, there would be Blue and Red Spaces and if you manage to stay on them for like 5 or 7 seconds you’ll either heal or take 3% damage like receiving coins, not sure how happening spaces could function but I wanted to keep it simple and fun, always hated how Mario Kart got a stage and not Mario Party, same issues with one having more music than the other. Remix 64 impressed me in that regard
I love the idea of every fighter getting a home stage, so if we would get a Mario Party stage I would like it to be Peach's Cake and I always liked the fantastical candyland biome
Waluigi’s Island if he ever gets in Smash, maybe it could be one of those traveling stages since the board is kinda big
if Waluigi gets a stage is Waluigi's pinball or bust for me, also for Luigi, I think Chauncy's Crib of Luigi's Mansion 1 would make for a good stage

I'm honestly more intrigued to see how certain newcomers would give Kirby a new hat to mess around with. Also I'm more interested in more how a wanted roster pick would work mechanically in a platform fighter like Smash Bros. I can see someone like Quote working with it's powerup system encouraging an certain playstyle.

Sonic, Snake, Megaman and Pacman have been for longer than those figthing gays yet they haven't recieved a second rep and every one of them deserve it way more than Ryu or the Belmonets, specially more than paid DLC shit like Squeenix shit is.

honest Classic mode should be molded into Melee adventure mode suited to their respective character at this point, add platforming levels and also I would like if there were multiple paths like a star fox game, that would be sweet
Classic mode peaked in Melee with the minigames but characters having personalized routes in Ultimate was really nice. If there was a good opportunity to bring back Melee-style Adventure Mode it would've been in Ultimate, but it's obvious they spent their time and budget on the characters and stages first and foremost.
like I said, you could just bring back Melee's adventure mode, have it personalized, with some brief cutscenes like intros before a fight and a 5 second ending animation and call it "classic mode" and everyone wins

Banjo is a worse clone of Mario & Snake which might actually be a smart plan, now that I think about it, considering Banjo-Kazooie always was inferior to Mario 64. while Sora is a by the books anime swordsman, complete with a down-b counter. The only reason he gets a free pass at all is because Disney partially owns Kingdom Hearts, and Smashgays have no standards and will gladly eat something up as long as it's popular, or what they wanted.
If you feel so strongly about them, what would you do to fix their movesets?

Anyways, base game newcomers were decent, DLC was largely underwhelming for me.
Min-Min should've been Spring Man, Pyra/Mythra should've been Rex. Its like adding Luigi over Mario or Falco over Fox.
Steve's not a bad choice, but was implemented terribly. He's the most recognizable face, especially for kids. He shouldn't be as complex as he is.
Sora's okay, but I didn't like how they treated him like Jesus.

Byleth would've been fine if Corrin never happened. I think Steve is a great idea and a monumental addition but his playstyle is cancer and I have no history with mindcraft. A Tekken or Soul Calibur character has been the most no-brainer thing since Namco was revealed to be working on Smash 4 so Kazuya is showing up crazy late but I don't mind him. I do not like Incineroar's design but they did a great job injecting personality into with those animations. Richter I'm only bothering to rank because he was a legitimate mind blowing reveal and Rondo is one of my favorite games. Joker is generally a disappointment in actually adapting his abilities and is the most "current thing" guest they ever added, on top of that thing not even being THAT big relative to the fanfare it got. Banjo is awesome but the move set could be improved. I don't think I could have asked for a more perfect return for K. Rool. Rostergayging ended at Banjo and Hero. At that point, everyone who should be in was in, everything after is just a character who could be in.
