So let's be real. How much did Disney pay to put him in? This all has to be rigged, there's no fricking way people actually wanted him in, Disney had to have waved Money in Sakurai's face to let him in. There's no way he won the Ballet, it was probably Shantae or something.

I refuse to believe this.

Sakurai probably didn't want Mickey and whoever else in. He was most likely the stubborn one here. They aren't video game characters after all, then again neither is Sora.

Nintendo payed Disney, not the other way around. As Sakurai said, they knew that the people wanted him, but it took up to 6 years of negotiations to even have just the mickey symbol on the keyblade. Nintendo for sure paid a handsome sum for that symbol alone, even if Square Enix gave permission for the actual original characters long ago.

What world are you living in? KH is massively popular and people have a irrationally emotional connection to it driven by seven layers of nostalgia.

    >Thinking Disney gives half a frick about video games
Sakurai had to grovel on his hands and knees and threaten to kill himself in Bob Chapek's office before they even considered it.

Yeah nobody actually wanted Sora, except hundreds of thousands of twitter and youtube gays screaming SORA every fricking time before a character reveal for years now and every single poll having Sora in #1 for like 6 years now.

    Fricking moron.

    >How much did Disney pay
little or nothing, disney barely cares about kingdom hearts and even putting sora in disneyland for a period of time was just a flex on their ownership of the character
    >there's no fricking way people actually wanted him in,
genuinely, unironically, spiritually, physically, metaphorically, mentally and truthfully, hoes mad

Anon you vastly overestimate the value Disney puts in KH, or gaming in general. Smash is a special case though and any other company than Nintendo would have been told to piss off, if not outright liquidated.
Disney and Nintendo going through the legal hoops to allow this wasn't just a matter of waving money around.

Why is that the copyrights for Square Enix games are all over the place?

    >lord knows what's going on with ff7
    >sugiyama owns the rights to dragon quest's music with an iron fist
    >disney basically flat out owns kingdom hearts
    >even chrono trigger seems to be a mess with other companies like bird studio, armor project and shueisha

Like it's pretty shocking that they somehow managed to retain the rights to Geno and the other Mario RPG originals, you'd think that shit would be owned by Nintendo, just like how they own Rare's Donkey Kong and Star Fox (really Dinosaur Planet leftovers) characters.
