It's like Zero but with attacks that "feel heavier" but with a shit ton of more tedious bloat added on top. It's a shame because the game feels good when you get to play it but having to go around talking with npcs regularly is irritating and FRICK the weak point mechanic.

It's sort of torn between what it wanted to be. At first it seemed like it was still trying to be a pseudo metroidvania like the first game but with progression locked behind form abilities instead of gay ass color cards. Then you meet the sage trinity and suddenly that doesn't matter anymore and you just teleport directly to stages. Also too many forms were pure jank to use and you never even came close to giving a frick about hunters compared to guardian members or resistance members.
ZX managed to balance out the form changes by just giving you the other Models. ZXA definitely had bloat because the boss transformations were mostly useless except in some very specific areas. I kind of remember one being utterly unusable unless you were underwater.
