the breasts made me look it up and it's a 60 dollar chibishit "game" that's apparently really short. Talk about false advertising.

It's the Atelier that launched a franchise. Short and nostalgic.

loved the original, very wholesome and chill.
Definitely play it with a guide unless you're ready to play the game 10 times to get some of the endings

Didn't play the remake yet tho

Is this kind of game that you need to finish many times because new games will bring things from your last ending?

I didn't care much for Marie, but Elie was genuinely great. The fan translation is complete garbage though, glad I had already started learning some moon when I played them. Don't know about the official port's translation but do know that it has an ugly UI.

I feel like they just (re)make the same shitty game every six months and it sells because 'anime picture' exists.
    Am I wrong?

I feel like they all have their own mood which they're trying to achieve through the same gameplay loop

sure the game is always about the same thing but the adventure is never the same and if you just want to enjoy something chill after work or something, I think it's a nice choice.

But yeah to answer your question, it mostly sells because anime picture, through most new players learn that it's not just about that in the end

Based in the sense that an old PS1 JRPG finally got an official localization. Maybe not released in the most ideal terms, but it's still cool that it happened at all.

I looked at the artstyle, the playtime, and the price, and decided I'll be fine passing on a physical this time. If I see a really good sale I'll jump on it, but it's still an Atelier game...

Waiting for a sale. I still haven't finished ryza 3 and haven't even started the sophies

I'm finishing up Ryza 2 right now. How does 3 compare? I watched the first trailer and they made it look like some huge open world, botw type game, but I'm guessing it's really not that different? Sophie 2 has some of the least interesting characters and story, but the best gameplay in my opinion. I really hope they make it a trilogy like Ryza.

It's not a complete open world but it has a lot of wide open zones that are decently fun to explore, way more expansive than the prior two. Maybe I'm just playing suboptimally but it feels pretty slow to progress and I'm getting tired of the ryza battle system after playing 2, 3, and blue reflection 2 one after another.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the battle system. Even on the hardest difficulty it just seems like there's a bunch of shit you never really have to use (which I guess is kind of true for all the modern Ateliers, at least from what I've played). Same reason I never finished BF2. I can also see how too much exploration could lead to over-leveling, which would take all the fun out of it.

I liked it but I got really tired by the end. Combat is a damn joke, they give you the very hard difficulty from the start for once yet it still plays itself, I had to nerf myself for half the game by not upgrading my gear to avoid deleting everything with my eyes closed. There's just so much shit stacked in your favor that's way too easy to make due to how alchemy works in the Ryza trilogy that it doesn't feel as rewarding to make broken items as it does in other games. It especially annoys me since alchemy and combat in Sophie 2 had great balance and playing on hard felt great. That aside, exploration is fun and the environments are very well-made, lots of variety in playable characters, enemies and items to make, and the plot is a bit better than Ryza 2 although I feel like the end is a bit of a wet fart and I still think keeping the same protagonist and cast for three games was a mistake and I hope they never do it again.

I really loved the alchemy system in Sophie 2. I feel like I had to learn every mechanic and then it still took some planning, skill, and luck to really optimize an item. In Ryza it feels like less than halfway through the story you can spend 20 minutes and make any piece of equipment completely OP. It makes the alchemy just feel like busy work and the combat basically auto-battle. I don't want to go back to time limits, but they need to introduce something to balance things out going forward (that isn't just making high level ingredients rarer).

It was my first Atelier game but I found it a lot of fun! I thought Marie had a great personality and I enjoyed alchemy. The combat being simplistic was alright for what it was.

    remake of the original
original game was short. remake is short.
at least it was a complete remake, unlike sqeenix who think they can milk a remake out for 4+ installments over 20 years.

Its fun but if you know what you are doing you can 100% the game in under 20 hours. Classic atelier is very different from modern, you are essentially playing a full on time sim more akin to the princess maker games. If you are doing a characters route its for a very specific reason since you don't have enough time to do them all like modern atelier.

still a fun experience but KT made the remake really similar to the original with not much QoL or changes.

Time limit is great, but i prefer time limit like in Totori, because you still have enough time to relax and have fun but still tight enough if you aim for the normal ending.

marie has a lot of events that lock you out of events and into very specific endings. if you are playing it without a guide you will miss 80% of the game probably.

The remake added a big list that tells you how to unlock every event, though planning around it might be a bit of a headache anyway.
