Indeed Elder Ring right now is one of a kind piece of shit.
It's part of unlocking a secret boss. It was fulfilling figuring it out without looking it up. For the shitters: Each of these areas have a "bell" type thing you have to ring in a circular finger section which gives you an amulet.There is a castle somewhere in the middle/right area of the map. A guy in a throne is there. He tells you to ring the two bells at the finger places. The second one is in the top right of the map. You need a gesture to unlock the entrance to that area in front of the statue before the general/boar fight. Once you ring both, go back to him and he'll give you shit and tell you lore. Reload the area and he'll be gone but you can examine his chair to open a secret passage to the third finger bell. This time it opens a boss fight instead of giving you an amulet. It's a neato boss. Gives a remeberance.

Some people think that the finger mother's remembrance implies that all of the fingers are con artists who have been making it up from the start, because the finger mother only got one message or something.
But my take is that regular fingers do receive messages (but as previously stated, it's taking longer and longer to get a reply as the GW moves further and further away from the planet). But the Finger Mother was never intended to be a radio mast for the GW, she was intended to make fingers. She landed, got one message: "Ayo, make your b***h ass some fingers for me", and then never got spoken to again because why the frick would the GW spend its time fricking around texting the radio mast factory when the radio masts are the ones ingratiated in the politics of the control of the Elden Ring.
You're taking the concept of "Mother" too literally.
It's a "Mother" in the same sense you can have a "Mother of Vinegar" or other bacterial cultures.
It's leaning into the bacterial or fungal aesthetic of the Fingers, implying they're all semi-connected which makes sense given their psychocosmic nature. The microcosm is where the messages come from. So implicitly the leg positions of the fingers arent really antennae, but simply communicating through some kind of semaphore.
The "Mother" doesn't "give birth", bits of the mother come off or grow off on their own and expand.
