    either:
you are a homosexual who intentionally delays his move to piss people off, maybe in some "mind games" type of trash play, maybe just to troll people because you can't experience happiness without schadenfreude anymore
    or
you aren't a troll but are SO SLOW that you are taking multiple minutes to play out a single move, in which case I think you are too stupid to be playing even a fricking card game, and you should probably go back to FPS or fighting games or something, where you can make up for a lack of intelligence with just reflexes
if you have no reflexes either, then I don't understand why you are playing video games at all

This is an intended feature. The devs thought about how long a turn should take at its maximum and intentionally set it. It should be reduced if developers changed their minds and now think its too long.

                Anonymous

The intended feature is to take as long as your turn NEEDS. Not to sit there and waste time.

no. actually, its a legitimate argument. if youre playing within the timer then whats the problem? if the devs made the timer too long thats on them, if they dont give you shorter turns for taking too long thats also on them. 3 days or perm doesnt matter, it isnt the point, somebody was banned for playing within the rules, simple as. even fricking pokemon showdown the free browser game figured out to give stallers shorter turns for wasting peoples time. why is mtga so incompetent?

you must have a very low bar for complexity. its probably the most popular tgc in the world besides yugioh or pokemon if you include collectors since hardly anyone actually plays pokemon, you're not fooling anyone, mtg isnt some obscure game most people on this board havent played. regardless. if you have a 3minute turn and spent 2:45 on it your next turn should be shorter, if your online cardgame cant do that you have failed as a dev and banning people for your poor design is the ultimate admission of failure.

Not him but the majority of the complexity in MtG comes from the deck building. Play something like Android: Netrunner to see the alternative, where deck building still matters but the majority of the complexity and decision making is in the turn by turn plays.

It's a classic strategy in both IRL and online card games to 'stall for time' which is basically take as long as possible to finish your turn for no reason other than you want to waste the other guy's time.
IRL this can make it so you run out of time and deny the other person a 3rd game but online it's manly used to troll and waste people's time. To get banned for this you'd pretty much have to be doing it on purpose to just troll and waste people's time or to hope that they'll just get bored and quit so they can do something else / do a game that isn't taking 10 times longer than a normal one.

so why isnt there a turn timer then? imagine getting banned because the devs didnt put in the most basic of gameplay mechanics.

There IS usually a timer but you're not expected to take literally every second of said timer as possible. It's bad sportsmanship at it's finest.

More online card games ought to have an overall timer like Chess, rather than individual turn timers.

iirc YGO Duel Links had something to that effect and it did a great job at preventing stalling. You could be a bit slow for maybe a turn or two, but if you did it too often and your timer ran out you'd just lose the match.

      Anonymous

MTG already hat that in MTGO where each player got 30 minutes for the entire match (2-3 rounds) and if they stalled too much or wasted too much time resolving triggers, they were just shit out of luck.

        Anonymous

iirc Duel Links had a similar caveat where any time you got asked "Would you like to trigger this optional effect?" you'd inevitably spend a second of the timer clicking Yes/No.

Devs could probably just program it so that you get a 2-second grace on those popups before it actually starts burning time to be a fair compromise

          Anonymous

The game let you avoid losing single seconds to things like that allowing you to either set your client to "ignore all triggers until X" or by setting defaults for certain triggers so it would just skip over asking you.

Their old client was kind of dogshit but it was a somewhat good way to play the game if you could make it past being filtered by the UI.
It's also the only version of digital MTG they ever made that actually supports Commander by virtue of having access to almost all of the sets.
