It's not a matter of "git gud", it's a team-based game, even if I literally do nothing but sleep, there should still be a low but significant chance to win some match (ex.: if my teammates are really good, and/or the opponents are really bad). Instead, I have an average of 1 win every 12 losses, which would be extremely unlikely even if I deliberatly try to sabotage my team.
And the majority of times, I am the only one among my team who even seems to know how to play, while the opponents are so perfectly coordinated that almost looks like they're AI-controlled.
Either most of the battles are against computer-driven opponents, or Nintendo is systematically trying put me with the shittiest teams. I can't come up with any other explainations.

You can blame your team all you want but I GUARANTEE this is a skill issue on your part. I maintain a positive win ratio against full stack discord teams, regardless of mode. You are far far FAR more likely to notice the shit players on your team than the good ones. when the good ones do their job, you got nothing to complain about, and sometimes it can be hard to tell just how much of a help your teammates actually were. You cant pretend like you NEVER get the good players on your team and ALWAYS the enemy has the better players. You just dont realize it when it works in your favor because it doesnt sting. The negative memories are far more likely to stick in your mind. Due to the new friend system in place and the poorly design maps. Thanks to that, it increase the chances of solo players getting butt rape and beyond. Plus these buttholes decided it was a good idea to bring back S2 specials that overwhelm S3 specials. And since their poor fix that was Mahi-Mahi, we wont see any good balance patch or QOL patch. Just pray that S4 replace the whole team, because Japanese culture is frick and thanks to their shit culture nothing will be fix.

Turf war is unironically worse than Clam Blitz, probably the worst mode in the game let’s be real. Tower Control is okay, I wouldnt consider it the most fun but it works. Clam Blitz is just way overhated. I wont say it’s a perfect mode, I get the complaints but I dont think it’s bad or unfun, not worth never playing at the very least. Like I genuinely dont get why people are so terrified of clam blitz beyond the fact that it requires a little more team coordination than the other modes, but it’s not THAT much more team dependent than say Rainmaker, which people are way more willing to play.

Listen, I play turf war probably with (You)! But it’s been explained a million times why it’s a flawed mode. You do not get rewarded for playing well in turf war. You can hold down the objective for the majority of the match, but all of that means diddly squat if an aerogay runs unchecked in the final few seconds. No other ranked mode functions like that because of the extra rules. If you get a huge lead in ranked early on it is far harder for the other team to get a last minute comeback in the final moments, and if they do get it they earned it. The first few minutes of turf war really dont account for anything. It also is a mode where you are forced to play for the full 3 minutes, regardless of the skill levels of the teams involved.
Say a team of discord pub stompers gets paired up with absolute timmies in turf wars. Those timmies are forced to endure being raped for 3 minutes straight with very little chance of a turnaround, but if they DO get the turnaround it was by pure fricking chance and the team who kicked ass gets punished. If it were ranked the rightful team would win and the losing team would be knocked out out of their misery. It’s the lack of structure and the meaninglessness of turf that hurts the mode. Do I think it can still be fun? Sure, but I think the other modes are better. Splat zones is hands down one of the favorite modes among top players and less serious players alike because it takes what works in turf wars and expands upon it.

There was a period in time before pools were added where threads were on their last legs. Things have slowed down a bit but since then there’s been a daily thread with hundreds of posts, most of the time hitting bump limit. That’s really pretty good after a year since it’s been out
The reason why it seems like it's dying is because it's the end of the season. Once chill season starts it will be more active once again.
Not to mention things will be popping off in a few days during the splatfest. Splaftest announcement thread hit bump limit in just a couple of hours. There’s just not a whole lot to talk about until then or we get news on the new season. Not to mention it’s a damn tuesday.

Here’s a hot take for you: The matchmaking in this game is fine, and if the game matched you with people on your skill level, everybody in this thread would be around A rank. S and especially s+ would be inhabited by competitive players alone, like many other shooters.

That would be the new S and S+ and anybody not on their skill level is hardstuck in A. Sure, there's one or two people here at that level, but the majority of people here aren't.

If you were matched with people all on your skill level, every game you play would be won by single points and none of it would be knockouts. Every game would drag on and your win loss would be equal. Sounds like X rank to me. To climb past the 1800-2000 shitter lands you have to be very competitive and the matches are very close. Everyone knows S+ is an arbitrary rating, but you need to be good to actually climb X rank to say get a top 500 or higher placement, and the matches will be close.
Most competitive players are doing SendouQ so that’s the real S++ rank that us regulars wont ever get in on unless we play with an actual competitive team. At least you admit there’s a couple of guys that would be S. You dont climb to S+25 by accident. And there’s a couple of nutters who do that every season.

I doubt it, no one is 100% consistent so there would still be some knockouts and big point differentials, either way it would much better than what we have the majority of the time now, which being completely stomped and barely resisting being knocked for most or all the match or completely stomping while the enemy barely resists being knocked out for most or all the match, that isn't fun, what's fun is having heated back and forths with a team that's equal your skill, that's really the most exciting part of the game but it almost never happens due to shit matchmaking, no it's just mostly boring stomps one way or the other, how is that exciting

They want to be carried and play against weak opposition. Maybe you should have specified that. Reaching Top 10 in X Rank is above average even for hardcore competitive players. Obviously most people aren't going to be able to do that.
Getting the silver X-Rank badge is much easier, and I've seen and beaten plenty of players wearing that badge, but I've never encountered anyone with the gold badge.
In my original post i did say competitive players would solely inhabit S+. Also I have matched against a gold X rank badge holder once. You can take a guess as to how that went.
That's still a wide margin of skill levels you're wanting to compress down into one rank for the sake of what's barely a drop in the bucket of players.

There are some actually good players in this thread, I can vouch for myself and others. I reached X-Rank in Splatoon 2 where the requirements to do so were much stricter. That game uses Glicko 2 to calculate your rank, though your exact rating is hidden until you reach X at the 2000 rating mark. It's estimated that less than 0.1% of players were able to reach this rank.
Note that I've never played in any sort of competitve setting, I've just played in solo a lot (~700 hours in S2, but I only got S3 about a month ago), so it's entirely possible to git gud without being a compgay. Everyone improves at their own pace, after all.
I've also played with some anons here in open rotations, and we've been successful at stomping on the Discord menace. So there are definitely some good players here. Just because you're not in S+ doesn't mean that others here don't deserve to be.

Good luck buddy, make a room and some anons will help you out in turf or ranked im sure. But if you group up you’re more likely to face other groups so it can sometimes be harder that way. Solo queue you’re more likely to run into other solo players
Definitely not salmon run.
Getting your one win a day is a free catalogue level. Ranked gives you the most exp, but only if you win. Turf gives you less, but it’s more consistent as you’ll get more if you lose in turf than if you lose ranked.
So pick ranked if you know you can win consistently, or pick turf if you want more of a mindless grind where the outcome doesnt matter as much. Salmon run gives out shit for catalogue exp

Well they at the very least let you play it 24/7. In 2 you literally could not play the mode during certain times. They seem to want to encourage people to play the other modes more with how limited superbonuses are.
Unless you're on that 999 grind, or you REALLY just want to farm ability chunks and nothing else, it's not really worth it to play Salmon Run for more than an hour or two each rotation. It's good to just get the early bonuses and then go on to play ranked. That's what I usually do, at least.

I've been playing since Splatoon 1 release day and honestly I was super disappointed with what Splatoon 3 brought to the table at release. But with all these events I'm having a lot of fun with it. More than I had with Splatoon 2.
3 was in a sorry state for the first 6-9 months, but they’ve cleaned it up and fleshed it out quite a bit since then. Still a disappointing sequel but I think it’s still the best Splatoon game as far as playability is concerned. Certainly not the most ambitious, but the most refined with the QOL stuff theyve added. Theyve been rather slow to roll out events up until now, where having a splatfest one month after the last was a surprise to most people familiar with Splatoon 3. Seems like they’ve finally gotten their act together with regards to content pacing
Splatoon 3 did make Salmon Run 24/7, which immediately makes it better than 2, but ultimately I feel the Dev Team really pushed back their more creative ideas for Side Order, which is a shame for a shooter like Splatoon.
Also, the new Fashion is totally mid.

I really like using the Aerospray RG in Splat Zones. Great set for it, high painting ability plus Sprinkler and Booyah Bomb. I've played the Aerospray RG like crazy since Splatoon 1, so I am pretty good at getting splats with it. Usually I get #1 Overall Splatter and #1 Turf Inlet when I use it in Splat Zones.
The key to getting splats with the Aerospray RG is being stealthy. With Ninja Squid and Swim Speed Up, sneaking up to enemies and making quick work of them is pretty effective Lots of fun too!

I took apart my procontroller and thoroughly cleaned it out with contact cleaner to fix the left stick problem. It’s a thing because of residue build up from the white “dust” that forms around your analogue stick.
All you need is a small phillips head screwdriver and some contact cleaner and there’s a billion guides on youtube. Did it in less than an hour and works perfect now.

Meta as in the game balance. The abilities, the weapons that are overpowered, that sort of thing. A lot of it just revolves around missile spam. Ink armor is broken, stingray broken, main power up broke the game, etc. Ive also heard matchmaking is kinda dead for Splat 2 so good luck finding matches

Im surprised it doesnt get brought up much but Im convinced that the only reason they copy and pasted the specials from splat 2 at launch because they had to rush the game out ASAP and ran out of time to test the “updated” versions of them. Booyah, tenta missiles, inkstorm, and hammer do not fit this game’s special philosophy whatsoever. They havent added a copy pasted special in any of the updates and all of the new ones are reworked old specials. To me the fact that the old specials were just plopped into this game proves to me just how rushed Splat 3 was. Tacticooler IS the reworked ink armor. Killer wail IS the reworked sting ray which was already the reworked killer wail from the first game. Splat 3 is the first game they just outright copy pasted old specials without reworking them.
And that's why Xenoblade 3 was released first, but that game also had problems, so I have no idea why they let those two release as is.

You need to stop getting hung up on your rank and focus on getting better at the game. Figure out what you’re doing wrong. Im sure even if you watched your replay you would catch some blatant mistakes you made and think “hmm I could have done this better or tried this here” etc. Your rank is arbitrary. So are your points. Even a lost game is experience. You wont get better if you dont play the game, so dont let losses discourage you. But it’s more valuable to try and learn from those losses. If you keep playing with the intent on learning to become a better player, you will get better. Playing the levels more will get you more acquainted with them. Practicing your weapon will get you more acquainted with it. Going up against top tier e liter players teaches you how to best fight against those e liter players over time as an example. But sometimes you gotta think about where you’re going wrong, and it could be a number of things. Dont be afraid to ask for pointers

I should probably play more open with the pool and ask for pointers there, but there's always that part of me that thinks i'll lose too many points. I can see that as irrational, but series? I'm deathly afraid of losing points there with what little time is left in the season. I will watch my replays when I get a chance, and I have learned how to engage people with certain weapons.
You really wont lose many points in open though, even if all we do is lose. You get more points for winning than losing, but at worst you lose five points, so dont sweat it. We can definitely help pinpoint what you’re doing wrong if you play with us
and once you DO figure you out what works in S rank and manage to rank up again, what worked in S rank probably wont work S+, so you’ll have to go back to the drawing board again. This is a common thing players run into as they climb up the ladder, it’s a part of growing as a player. You may be trying to brute force a square block through a round hole, so put some thought into how you can improve. Mechanical skill and reflexes and aim are important, and with practice you will get better with those, but what is equally important is tactics, on the fly decision making, good teamwork, situational awareness, catering what weapon you’re using for each mode and level, knowing how to counter certain things, mentality, awareness, staying calm, and the list goes on and on. There’s a lot of levels to this game, and even the best players are still learning what works best after having put thousands of hours into each splat game. Skill ceiling is incredibly high and it takes lots of time to get gud, literal man hours. But you gotta work smart rather than just work hard.

I think almost every single stage has at least one or two spots. Gone Fission, Spawning Grounds, smokeyard, the junction. I think only marooner’s bay lacks one, on account of being an butthole.
Whoever made it is a credit to team. That being said, I take issue with the “throw grenades at the lid” strategy because it NEVER fricking works for me. Always bounces off.
Yea I usually pull back on the left stick to lob it so it slowly lands in. Less risk of it glitching or bouncing off that way.
There’s a method to the madness that I can’t quite explain, but 2 whole games of flyfish has given enough experience to make some insane throws. I’ve done behind the back lobs on those bastards before.
Comes up more than you’d expect.

You’d think so, but after enough trial and error you get a feel for it. The tricky part can be doing it when everything is going breasts up.
This little infographic touches on most of the ways to one-shot flyfish. The method I used is on the right. On specific areas on almost every stage, you can lure the flyfish to a specific spot where a grenade tossed onto the ground will take out both baskets at once. It's a method of abusing the explosion's hit radius. Takes a bit of learning but it's worth the effort. The only thing not covered here is doing it with the egg cannon on xtrawave. You have to aim a biit lower towards the wienerpit.
