Square released every high caliber game they made on Xbox, including the future Crisis Core game. The only reason FF7R is not on Xbox because Sony still considers it a prestige title and they pulled every string to keep it exclusive as long as possible.

Pretty simple, most console companies sell consoles at a loss and make their money back via game sales. Pc is not limited to a single store nor specific parts which means that there is a lot more manufacturing and build variety, as well as access to a lot more options for purchasing games. The idea behind consoles vs pc is that you have comfort vs functionality. Your PS5 can play ps5/ps4 games (ps3 or below too if they have been ported over). While the pc can play pretty much everything that has been released for it (and most retro or older consoles through emulation) as well as heavily modify most of the games too. But it has its clunk and it is definitely a b***h to deal with sometimes.

It's not about the single exclusive contract they can sign, they can sell it to Epic once the contract is done for however long the exclusivity for Part 2 is. The PS5 is ahead of the curve, but in 10 years or so, everyone will have this speed. Most people with gaming PCs are already to have speeds within .5 seconds of the PS5. And PCs have more ram, which can make things even faster in game. There's no reason not to port it

Somebody partially ported Sonic 1 to SNES and it had significantly more slowdown than on Genesis. It also had a smaller field of view and was also stretched because of the 256x224 resolution as opposed to Genesis' 320x224.
There is a reason countless SNES games used add-on chips in cartridges later on.
SNES was the slowdown machine but it had other advantages over Genesis like a wider color gamut and a more robust soundchip that was easier for composers to work with.
"Blast Processing" however was originally something else entirely. It was some sort of special technique with the DMA which unfortunately was never used.

The PS5 and PS4 have unified memory, so they didn't have to worry about any time of preloading or caching of textures for the GPU when they were developing. Now the PC port stutters like a b***h on $5000 hardware because square enix devs couldn't bother to port it over properly. It's basically the same issue as this PS5 rebirth shit. They could easily mitigate it, but they won't. Cuz they're lame as frick.

Digital Foundry debunked that. Most of the heavy lifting is done by the GPU and CPU. I believe any normal SSD could pull off what Ratchet was doing with ease.

The real reason they are selling you this supposed super fast ssd tech is because they skimped on ram and they know it. It's the smallest generation over generation increase by far, and every other component has been upgraded significantly except for ram. PCs don't need meme speeds because they 32gb or ram minimum.
16GB GDDR6 VRAM is more than enough to push most games to near 4K territory. RAM is not a bottleneck here. 16GB of VRAM makes for a massive memory pool.
You get 8gb for textures and 8gb for game pretty much. If you want to do meme shit like change the game world without a loading screen like in ratchet and clank, you have to clear out all the ram and load a new environment from ssd. On pc, you could just preload it, and it would be faster or just as fact as accessing the ssd. 32gb should have been the minimum for the ps5
It's the other way around, they made the SSDs much better because the savings from worse SSDs would not have bought much more RAM. Better storage is more economic than better RAM and will be for the coming years.
The magic for ps5 ssd is not memory device. It comes from optimization in OS and hardware acceleration. It can be done in PC but these optimizations are useless for outside gaming and need a whole pc market taking a while to adopt it.
The whole console market is taking a while to adopt it. Every major game still gets released on PS4 with minimal changes. Until the crossgen period ends, the advantages of DirectStorage, RTX IO, XVA etc. will be squandered and underutilized.
The problem for directStorage is that I cannot find another application need this. Maybe one day they can sell this stupid shit to others. Who know. For consoles, they gradually phases out ps4 and there will be no new big games on ps4 next year.
Who gives a shit about other applications? As long as the OS and the games in question do, there's no problem. When games drop last gen and start demanding Turing cards or better, there's no reason devs will not use the new APIs and hardware capabilities.

Pretty simple, most console companies sell consoles at a loss and make their money back via game sales. Pc is not limited to a single store nor specific parts which means that there is a lot more manufacturing and build variety, as well as access to a lot more options for purchasing games. The idea behind consoles vs pc is that you have comfort vs functionality. Your PS5 can play ps5/ps4 games (ps3 or below too if they have been ported over). While the pc can play pretty much everything that has been released for it (and most retro or older consoles through emulation) as well as heavily modify most of the games too. But it has its clunk and it is definitely a b***h to deal with sometimes.

Even then I doubt Square Enix is making fully use of the ps5 speed, as they will want to port it to other platforms.

Somebody partially ported Sonic 1 to SNES and it had significantly more slowdown than on Genesis. It also had a smaller field of view and was also stretched because of the 256x224 resolution as opposed to Genesis' 320x224.
There is a reason countless SNES games used add-on chips in cartridges later on.
SNES was the slowdown machine but it had other advantages over Genesis like a wider color gamut and a more robust soundchip that was easier for composers to work with.
"Blast Processing" however was originally something else entirely. It was some sort of special technique with the DMA which unfortunately was never used.

The real reason they are selling you this supposed super fast ssd tech is because they skimped on ram and they know it. It's the smallest generation over generation increase by far, and every other component has been upgraded significantly except for ram. PCs don't need meme speeds because they 32gb or ram minimum.
16GB GDDR6 VRAM is more than enough to push most games to near 4K territory. RAM is not a bottleneck here. 16GB of VRAM makes for a massive memory pool.
You get 8gb for textures and 8gb for game pretty much. If you want to do meme shit like change the game world without a loading screen like in ratchet and clank, you have to clear out all the ram and load a new environment from ssd. On pc, you could just preload it, and it would be faster or just as fact as accessing the ssd. 32gb should have been the minimum for the ps5
It's not 16GB of usable memory. It's 16GB of shared RAM between the CPU and GPU with entire gigabytes reserved for the OS.
It's not a lot of ram and it's inadverdently cucking the system. People just don't know it yet.
It's the other way around, they made the SSDs much better because the savings from worse SSDs would not have bought much more RAM. Better storage is more economic than better RAM and will be for the coming years.
The magic for ps5 ssd is not memory device. It comes from optimization in OS and hardware acceleration. It can be done in PC but these optimizations are useless for outside gaming and need a whole pc market taking a while to adopt it.
The whole console market is taking a while to adopt it. Every major game still gets released on PS4 with minimal changes. Until the crossgen period ends, the advantages of DirectStorage, RTX IO, XVA etc. will be squandered and underutilized.
The problem for directStorage is that I cannot find another application need this. Maybe one day they can sell this stupid shit to others. Who know. For consoles, they gradually phases out ps4 and there will be no new big games on ps4 next year.
Who gives a shit about other applications? As long as the OS and the games in question do, there's no problem. When games drop last gen and start demanding Turing cards or better, there's no reason devs will not use the new APIs and hardware capabilities.
