We need a new starfox like 64, no THAT'S TOO much like 64 why are devs afraid to try new things, no wait that's too different I wanted one like 64, no I said I wanted something different not another remake.
Assault was the shit because it was a House of the Dead situation, peak arcade game design and technical excellence meeting terrible writing and ludicrous voice work for that delicious trash factor.
Since Starfox 64, there is a curse with the series, if Nintendo release a new Starfox on a main console, that console is destined to fail >Nintendo 64 got Starfox 64
It flopped >GC got 2 Starfox games
It flopped even harde >Wii had no Starfox
Absolute success >Wii U had Starfox Zero
It flopped >Switch have no Starfox yet
Another absolute success
And thats why they get for no release Starfox 2, which released on the Snes Mini and on Switch online, so maybe we got a chance and the curse is broken
Why does Nintendo hate this IP so much? They've only ever seen it as a tech demo platform, and even the series creator seems to think it belongs in the trash. What the frick.
I think it's more that nobody can tell Miyamoto-sama that his series had one good game and it's a terrible money sink die to him personally fricking up every every with his shitty auteur behavior.
SF64 was great, let it rest instead of making 500 inferior retreads, go create a new IP.
On one side, Miyamoto may be the only person who actually gives a shit about Starfox in Nintendo. On the other side he's the responsible for all the disliked and questionable choices in gameplay and story that get fans torn. We can't win
I actually think that right there is really more on Takaya Imamura, which makes sense cuz he was Star Fox's character/story guy prior to his departure from Nintendo in 2021. If you read all these old interviews regarding Adventures, Assault and Command, you kinda realize that he was directly responsible for a lot of the questionable story/status quo changes after SF64: Peppy retiring, Krystal being redesigned into being sexy and joining the team, the characters aging eight years (he originally said he considered making it 20 years even), and all of Command's weird storylines and artwork. Which means he's also responsible for Fox's weird bell shaped noh kitsune mask look, which he was secretly drawing him with behind the scenes even before Command made it mainstream as shown by pic related.
Because all the men in the game are husbando tier and would make everyone gay should the series grow popular. Krystal was established to make it less gay, but the men at too hot so it didn't work as well as they hoped. Some people blame Shinzo Abe for secretly contacting Nintendo and telling them to can the series as "The bird one made my heart go doki-doki." and would attribute for Japan's declining birthrates. That statement hasn't been confirmed, of course. However, after the assassination of Shinzo Abe, some claimed that he was killed for this alleged rumor as hope that Abe's secret stanglehold on the franchise would finally be gone.
This shit right here is another reason why Star Fox is fricking dead. Entirely too many people see it as 3D Zero Wing, where they don't even perceive it as a video game. It's just a collection of memes to most people.
>It was a good game, you're just mad it wasn't a copy of 64.
It was worse off for trying to pander to 64gays while also doing shooting resulting in lackluster of both types of gameplay. If it ripped off even less of 64 maybe I'd be a better game. Assault is genuinely one of the most underwhelming multi-player shooters I've ever experienced. If assaultgays weren't cultists for this game they would admit there's really no reason to revisit it as other shooters done the same things but better.
Nah, they turned the furhomosexualry up to 11 and multiplayer was shit. I don't know if they were trying to go for the donut steel Sonic fandom, but that's what it felt like. Let it stay dead.
I still don't get why Star Fox never got another game that was as good as 64. If you do some research, you'll find that 64 had one of the most boring developments in Nintendo history in that literally nothing went wrong and the team never once had to make serious cuts or concessions. Everything went according to the original plan in a VERY timely manner.
How the frick do you make a masterpiece of a game so elegantly, but then you permanently fail to ever do it again?
I unironically think about this a lot whenever Star Fox comes up. I just can't make heads or tails of it.
It really is due to 64 being the only game Nintendo ever truly made in house. Everything else, before and after, was done by a third party or as a collab with Nintendo. They also kept trying to change up the core gameplay again and again for reasons which also hurt the game quality and reputation. Closest thing we got to 64 was zero and that had a rough development and it was plagued by a lot of questionable to bad decisions. I do think what zero does good, which is also a lot, is superior to 64. But the bad makes it overall worse than 64.
They actually did make some cuts to SF64 because of deadlines. For example, do you remember that weird pilot mode in the battle mode? That's actually a remnant of a planned third "Normal" route Venom stage where Fox would jump out of the Arwing and fight Andross on-foot with a bazooka.
Him being named "Fox" is like a human named "Human".
It's especially weird since his parents have normal-ish names

>64
literally no one wants this and there is no market for such outdated games
Assault was the best and im tired of morons pretending it wasnt
>pic
I love the idea that there's a social hierarchy within the mercenary community, and Krystal is kinda snobby about it.
man
i want to like assault so much but the on foot missions are such a chore
Assault is terrible and the worst rated game in the franchise

Remove the word before shit and you're correct.

That's not what assault is.

It also stinks 64 is the only game that had any good memes. I guess command a few good ones too but that's more because people love to hate it.
Frick this forced performative hate for Assault. It was a good game, you're just mad it wasn't a copy of 64.

A interesting precursor of things to come with Adventures and especially Assault.
I somehow keep forgetting that 64 had a multiplayer mode.
They invented Battle Royale too.
