I think it has a good chance of being successful. They've built a lot of hype and combined with being f2p means lots of people will at the very least give it a try and enough of those will stick around for the game to not be a complete flop.

Why did he not build more turrets and place goliaths in there? Artosis makes it sound like it's impossible to defend vs mass shuttles but it only seems ''impossible'' to defend vs mass shuttles if you are half assing the defense like ample did or like artosis does.
Just look at what ample did. Didn't float a building for vision, barely any turrets, his only defense when the shuttles first came in were a bunker with two marines, a single sieged tank, and two marines not in the bunker.
For one, I think making a bunker inside your base and putting marines in it is underrated as frick, it really grabs the attention of units dropped/recalled in your base and bunches them up for mines and siege tanks, or requires micro to ignore, and 4 marines do decent damage.
As for Artosis saying it is not worth it, does the protoss not lose way more trying to break it if you have some actual defenses there? Imagine if he had five turrets, a full bunker, a sieged tank at the gate, a few mines, and a few golaiths. Those first shuttles just fricking die. You know he's going to try breaking it with shuttles so just commit to the defense. Two robos is a lot but all they're going to do is destroy turrets and die to golaiths. He loses so much money trying to break it if you properly commit to the defense. Ample starts to defend it better with mines and more units, but ysc starts storm drop sacrifices and he's already down so many workers from the previous half assed defenses. Seems like a real miss from ample tbh but I want to know what you all think.
Turrets really aren't that expensive, I feel like some terran are allergic to building them when they clearly have the money to spare. I guess it's an apm thing then? They also block space so you need to go further in to drop stuff out. Kind of reminds me of protoss not getting observer upgrades when playing vs lurker.
He literally didn't have the money to spare, look at his mineral count when the first drop hits. High level broodwar play is all about taking shortcuts and doing as much as you can with as little as possible while you get your important tech and economy up. Turrets aren't worth much in the grand scheme of things but two turrets means 3 fewer scvs, 4 turrets is worth as much as a command center and if you get too far behind economically, then doesn't matter if you have 1 or 100 turrets because they're just going to march a whole load of dragoon/zealot into your base.
When the first drop hit, he would've comfortably dealt with a single shuttle but being prepared for three at that point in the game would've put him too far behind in scv or tank count or any of a number of other things which would have just as easily led to him losing.
He never once falls below 75 minerals, he could have afforded the turrets >bbbut it's less workers
Yeah well he lost 11 scvs in the first attack so if he had stopped building scvs to build turrets (which he didn't need to do) then he would still have more scvs than if he had not built any turrets.
He still builds turrets, just slightly too late and in bad positions when he had the money to build them slightly earlier so I don't really see how you can think he had no money. >being prepared for three would have put him behind
Wrong. He had everything he needed to defend just in the wrong spots. He already had golaiths built, just not where they should have been, the fricking island base. He had turrets building, just not finished. He had a badly placed tank. He had marines but not all in the bunker. He was sitting in his entrance so his vultures had mines but he didn't place any in this most vulnerable base. >turrets aren't worth much in the grand scheme of things
Except more turrets would have won him the game or at least put him in a very good position. Once again, he HAD the money. He was building turrets as the drop goes in, he had the money, and besides 2 (two) turrets had almost no anti air despite knowing there were two robos and trying to defend an island base.
He fricked up somewhere massively, either he for some reason had zero clue there were multiple shuttles (lol 3 scanners), he took an island base and knowing it is a good shuttle/carrier map did not for a single second have enough defense for dedicated shuttle play, and took an island base yet failed massively by both spending resources to put some defenses there but nearly enough so it was all a waste.
If his plan was to take the island base and keep it then defend it properly. If his plan was to cut his losses and run then he should have done that. He did neither, lost the game.
It's not because of workers that he was without turrets. He was scrambling to get his macro up. After the first drop he was able to snipe 7 probes. If you watch the reply he then instantly throws down 2 facts using up all of his bank. Immediatley after that he throws down 3 more facts and starts doing weapons upgrades. All while he is getting he starts setting up his 3rd. I don't hear scans until the 9-9:30 mark so I think that Ample thought that it was gonna be gateway man due to his early aggression. In the end he was just caught off guard that the Protoss went shuttle all in.
Basically he was trying to get further ahead while not knowing what protoss was actually doing.
Looking at it a bit more closely, he had TWO (2) turrets defending what is basically an island base. Five turrets, full bunker, tank a better position, a few golaiths and he would have held that easily. Ysc would be down three shuttles and a reaver with little to show for it. Turrets were placed badly as well. A turret is 75 minerals. And you just know ysc is going to attack again even if he completely fails the first time so it's not like the turrets are useless after the first defense.
He wasn't using the dropship for anything else, just using his apm elsewhere because he could have had some golaiths in there.
Also he had scanners for how long and he waited until his 3rd was under attack to research golaith range and build more golaiths, like come on. Two robos, protoss do not make a second robo to spam observers.
forgetting to look at the loading screen to see what race the other guy is playing has helped me scout better, as I always end up sending a scout worker just to see what race they are
I've scouted and defended about five worker rush cheeses this way too

Why did he not build more turrets and place goliaths in there? Artosis makes it sound like it's impossible to defend vs mass shuttles but it only seems ''impossible'' to defend vs mass shuttles if you are half assing the defense like ample did or like artosis does.
Just look at what ample did. Didn't float a building for vision, barely any turrets, his only defense when the shuttles first came in were a bunker with two marines, a single sieged tank, and two marines not in the bunker.
For one, I think making a bunker inside your base and putting marines in it is underrated as frick, it really grabs the attention of units dropped/recalled in your base and bunches them up for mines and siege tanks, or requires micro to ignore, and 4 marines do decent damage.
As for Artosis saying it is not worth it, does the protoss not lose way more trying to break it if you have some actual defenses there? Imagine if he had five turrets, a full bunker, a sieged tank at the gate, a few mines, and a few golaiths. Those first shuttles just fricking die. You know he's going to try breaking it with shuttles so just commit to the defense. Two robos is a lot but all they're going to do is destroy turrets and die to golaiths. He loses so much money trying to break it if you properly commit to the defense. Ample starts to defend it better with mines and more units, but ysc starts storm drop sacrifices and he's already down so many workers from the previous half assed defenses. Seems like a real miss from ample tbh but I want to know what you all think.
Turrets really aren't that expensive, I feel like some terran are allergic to building them when they clearly have the money to spare. I guess it's an apm thing then? They also block space so you need to go further in to drop stuff out. Kind of reminds me of protoss not getting observer upgrades when playing vs lurker.
He literally didn't have the money to spare, look at his mineral count when the first drop hits. High level broodwar play is all about taking shortcuts and doing as much as you can with as little as possible while you get your important tech and economy up. Turrets aren't worth much in the grand scheme of things but two turrets means 3 fewer scvs, 4 turrets is worth as much as a command center and if you get too far behind economically, then doesn't matter if you have 1 or 100 turrets because they're just going to march a whole load of dragoon/zealot into your base.
When the first drop hit, he would've comfortably dealt with a single shuttle but being prepared for three at that point in the game would've put him too far behind in scv or tank count or any of a number of other things which would have just as easily led to him losing.
He never once falls below 75 minerals, he could have afforded the turrets

Yeah well he lost 11 scvs in the first attack so if he had stopped building scvs to build turrets (which he didn't need to do) then he would still have more scvs than if he had not built any turrets.
He still builds turrets, just slightly too late and in bad positions when he had the money to build them slightly earlier so I don't really see how you can think he had no money.

Wrong. He had everything he needed to defend just in the wrong spots. He already had golaiths built, just not where they should have been, the fricking island base. He had turrets building, just not finished. He had a badly placed tank. He had marines but not all in the bunker. He was sitting in his entrance so his vultures had mines but he didn't place any in this most vulnerable base.

Except more turrets would have won him the game or at least put him in a very good position. Once again, he HAD the money. He was building turrets as the drop goes in, he had the money, and besides 2 (two) turrets had almost no anti air despite knowing there were two robos and trying to defend an island base.
He fricked up somewhere massively, either he for some reason had zero clue there were multiple shuttles (lol 3 scanners), he took an island base and knowing it is a good shuttle/carrier map did not for a single second have enough defense for dedicated shuttle play, and took an island base yet failed massively by both spending resources to put some defenses there but nearly enough so it was all a waste.
If his plan was to take the island base and keep it then defend it properly. If his plan was to cut his losses and run then he should have done that. He did neither, lost the game.
It's not because of workers that he was without turrets. He was scrambling to get his macro up. After the first drop he was able to snipe 7 probes. If you watch the reply he then instantly throws down 2 facts using up all of his bank. Immediatley after that he throws down 3 more facts and starts doing weapons upgrades. All while he is getting he starts setting up his 3rd. I don't hear scans until the 9-9:30 mark so I think that Ample thought that it was gonna be gateway man due to his early aggression. In the end he was just caught off guard that the Protoss went shuttle all in.
Basically he was trying to get further ahead while not knowing what protoss was actually doing.
Looking at it a bit more closely, he had TWO (2) turrets defending what is basically an island base. Five turrets, full bunker, tank a better position, a few golaiths and he would have held that easily. Ysc would be down three shuttles and a reaver with little to show for it. Turrets were placed badly as well. A turret is 75 minerals. And you just know ysc is going to attack again even if he completely fails the first time so it's not like the turrets are useless after the first defense.
He wasn't using the dropship for anything else, just using his apm elsewhere because he could have had some golaiths in there.
Also he had scanners for how long and he waited until his 3rd was under attack to research golaith range and build more golaiths, like come on. Two robos, protoss do not make a second robo to spam observers.
