I think anyone who wants a stardew sequel just wants to the see the 2 in the title without knowing what they actually want from it or knowing what ape would be able to deliver that isn't essentially a slight reskin retread.
A good qol would be great the fishing and combat needs to be improved. The town and mining and dungeon could be improved. Also the festivles would get rid of prizes you win cos once you win then its pointless being there.
It's easy to say better, but how? Festivals need more variety with the rewards, not to remove them. Year 2 should see some additional festivals as well with others like the luau alternating to every other year to help keep things fresh.

Ape is literally set for life. Stardew sold millions of copies for 20$ a pop. He's at the point where he'll never have to worry about money again as long as he doesnt go full moron. Thats... still not how things work. Not all that money goes to him, distributors still get some of the cut. He also can't rely on stardew valley forever as his only means of income, it will drop in sales and popularity someday and people will move to the next game. agreed but part of that is because harvest moon has a lot of weird little shinto elements that make the setting comfy and stardew valley has pixel art nostalgia and the fantastical elements don't mesh well with the world ape is trying to setup
Honestly, if I ever wrote a mod for Stardew, it would change basically none of the mechanics and just do a new setting with new characters. Maybe a flipside of the world and have it in to Gotoro Empire with a different sort of flavor.
If there's no new content then I doubt it. If anything many old mods will die and stay dead because the mod authors left ages ago, and fixing their work without asking is haram.
Pathoschild has been fixing and maintaining tons of old important mods and there's a bunch of people making unofficial patches for mods they like. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Now if free love could work properly. I had a problem with another mod called "planned family" because I only wanted a daughter and the mod let you pick the gender. But later for some reason it started to make a baby every single day. I had to go back a few weeks to make the game work properly again because even after mod removal, the problem stayed. Remember always have a save file copy before big changes, to prevent bug mess with your gameplay.

I got an animal key from Morgan after finding the wizard's ring for her. Is the reward supposed to be that it makes my barn animals give birth every time I sleep with it because that's what I've noticed has been happening since no event or anything played but my cows kept giving birth nearly every night.
No, the reward is always the item you get in the mail after sleeping with the item (under very rare circumstances you may have to sleep with it for two nights, but it usually works on the first). I had to keep it vague in-game to not break >immersion.
Was the reward the miners treat? I can't remember if I had any mail but I probably already got the reward then. Also I think that iridium bar quest from the town board is bugged. I had 15 bars already so I gave 10 to Morgan and the next day I found that my other 5 bars were gone from the chest even though I never took them out or made anything with them.

The reward was a custom recipe, look for one that uses omelets. I'm not too sure about the quest, I used the game's own special order system instead of any external mods, plus it's been ages since I've tested it since it was from an older update.

main thing I'd suggest is adding a bit of something on the floor. It's a very large area and there's not a lot of break up for the stone floor.
Compare it to grass floor, it has a lot of random details so it doesn't look like a 100% repeating pattern. It needs a bit of randomness to it.

Never played the original game? Kent's a vanilla character who spends the first year fighting in that war. SVE just mentions it a bit more. Sophia's genuinely a dog shit character, though. She's more of a nerd wet dream caricature than an actual person who has any business being in that town.

Yeah it doesn't seem too bad. You can see what modders are going to have to update on that page and at least for content patcher mods it's mainly for anything dealing with items. For script mods there's more they have to worry about.

For all the good 1.6 appears to be doing for future modding, it doesn't seem to touch the farmer at all. Really wish it would make the farmer more efficient and versatile to work with. I don't think it would be that difficult to do. Just have a subtle different colored pixel somewhere consistent in the middle of the sprite hidden by a shirt/arms overlay where the color determines direction and height. If there's a discrepancy between the hair and shirt heights, add another pixel beside it to specify the shirt's height.
Pants are just 1:1 overlays copy pasted 25+ times for all the different pants variations. It is also a pain in the ass to work with, but it's simple enough to brute force changes for existing farmer sprites at least. For the farmer himself, you're limited to what's already there.

Yeah because Stardew is a farm game by core. The chocolatier won't focus in farming, maybe there won't even be fields or seeds. It doesn't mean the "action" will be diferent than stardew valley. You can tell by the trailer the mc sprite is pretty much the same one as stardew, so prob the action will be very similar. Maybe with new stuffs added, but pretty much swinging the sword with a button as a core.
NPCs can send you items and recipes from time to time once you're well acquainted with them, plus friendship with certain characters unlocks some extra features as you go on.
Mostly making modsinv easier. There likely won't be any actual game content. Maybe 1.7, but it seems like he wants to focus on other things. The game is basically in a completed state at this point
Most of the goals are achieveble while just playing the game normally, albiet with some more planning and good rng, except for the golden clock. If you want the golden clock by the end of year two, you need like 5 sheds full of kegs and to ship thousands of starfruit wine so you wouldn't be able to get it without drastically changing the gameplay out of how you would normally do it

Nah, those was created because the save system the game have. When exist 6 diferent choices to date, a player won't just go and start a new game file again. They can just discard one character and start with another keeping the progress in the farm.
That's not surprisingly grim, it's just grim. It doesn't fit stardew at all and is only there as a blatant game mechanic for wishy-washy players. It's also a hurdle for anything like making your kids actual characters and rival events and marriage. It's unfortunate.
Sadly it feels like it wont be the case. After 1.6 and the mobile update are finished CA will most likely put full time into working on Haunted Chocolatier. Best thing to do is find mods to fill in those gaps.

If you use aseprites layers, animation frames and spritesheet export features well, you don't have to copy paste things like outfits or minor changes for every expression.

Highly recommend giving it a chance and I'm pretty sure it's included with the creation pack in the rentry. It's very simple as it's exclusively for pixel art and the time spent learning it will be nothing compared to the time saved working with it.

It is. I'd like to post an updated version since the one on the Rentry is like six months old but my private tracker doesn't have it yet.
Also, if you're planning on doing the sprites too, you'll only need to do the base game sprites for most situations. Don't go in thinking you need to add all the different clothes to every single sprite like you're doing for these portraits or you'll burn out right then and there.

I read about players what have six diferent wifes in their gameplays. It seem like you can have as much as you want, but be careful with Free Love and any other mod related with spouses, because it can mess your savefile in one way or another. Before proceed, make sure you have a savefile copy from when everything was fine.
I think the most fun ive had with this game was saying screw crops and going full on chicken farmer. Ive got two full coops and am debating a third. I wonder if I can hit 10 mil without artisan shit.

It really depends on whether your custom map is replacing an existing map or not. If it's a replacer, they could interact, otherwise they definitely won't.
It only changes the top right bit of your farm, as long as the house isn't placed there it should be fine. Also, I forgot to mention this in the read me like a dumbass. On an existing save, you'll need to use https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4715 to get rid of the permanent bushes. Never used this mod personally, so I can't guarantee how well it works.

Everything from the anons here is placed in the last folder, to be loaded at the very end. The order of things doesn't make it work either. Some mods are powerful enough to don't let others load. I have the same problem with one of the monster girls mod.

The map edits are set to modify the vanilla maps only. If his farm uses a custom map name, I suppose he could add it to the target line and figure out some proper coordinates but otherwise I don't think there's a solution.

How hard is to make an sprite from scratch? I mean, or the anon here is a genius, or no many people are interesed in create new characters for the game? With many loved characters in anime, I'm surprise there isn't more.
Not that hard, I'd say. At this level of detail, you can think of spriting as a puzzle where you need some trial and error for something to look satisfying (with the exception of shading which is always a pain I guess). Also helps if you use Jas as a template, especially for characters with dresses.

idk about everyone else, but I really dont get the point of porting characters from other series to stardew, they always seem out of place for the most part or strange at the very least, and creating a new character altogether that's appealing is definitely a taller order
Depends on the character being ported. I'm not a huge fan of crossovers either, but if they're done subtly or they fit with the world they can be cool. Original characters built from the ground up with the world in mind do tend to be much better when done well, but they can also be done a lot worse if they're oc donut steel types.
She wouldn't really fit randomly being/living in the town, but if she got her own farm maybe that you could visit from the bus and some of the other characters like tauemon were with her that would be a pretty neat crossover.
I guess it doesnt matter so much as long as people write them to belong in the world they're in rather then have them constantly referencing the completely different setting they come from.
I've found myself thinking it'd be cool to have a Muffet npc just for spider pussy. but still feel iffy about the whole idea, makes me think it'd be better to have it be a character similar in design but different enough to justify themselves as a 'stardew' npc more than a crossover character.
Not my thing, but she'd be fine if she were hidden away and weren't walking about town like she belonged. As long as she's hidden in the mines somewhere and nobody's making any random forced undertale references out of nowhere. Madotsuki doesn't really fit stardew either, but her mod makes her work well in spite of that because even though she's in the game, she's still very separated from it.
Making a single sprite isn't hard. Making all the sprites, portraits, dialogue, events, schedules, etc. to make an actual custom npc is a lot more work, especially if you want to do it well.
As someone who has spent tons of hours just modifying existing characters sprites, dialogue, and events. I now appreciate how much effort it takes for modders to make a custom NPC from scratch.

That's a quest from the mod, indeed. This one doesn't have special items or anything, since it was fron an older update. You should've received 15k and a prismatic shard in the mail after waking up

Well, time limits for special orders start counting down from the moment they appear on the board, and her quest had a duration of one week. If you gave her the bars and she said something like "I can feel the energy emanating from these", then you definitely completed it. Maybe the anon from earlier was right and the quest really is buggy, I'll see what I can do later.

This particular quest was requires delivering items to the character, as you can see from the "type" section, so you didn't finish it. Putting that aside, I never heard about this disappearing iridium issue so I might have to remove the quest entirely if I can't fix it, assuming it's the problem. It's fairly serious.

If I get the special orders modding documentation right it's the "ItemToRemoveOnEnd" that is removing all the iridium bars. The documentation says: "Removes all instances of the specified item ID from all inventories and containers. Used to prevent keeping hold of quest items. "

It's not like the library is empty. There are books in it already. The farmer just find extra books what was missing from the library. Maintenance and that dude librarian payment also require money. It's not like he's there for free.
Here's the fix for the special order bug. Sorry for the inconvenience, I'd recommend you to just restore your lost bars with debug commands debug f iridiumbar (number) if you'd like. I also changed some of the text for the secret quest, not sure if anyone finished it but it just sounded really weird to me after a while so it's a bit more fitting now, so sorry for that too. Make sure you replace all folders and Rentry anon can keep the same description as before, just note there's a fix for the special order. >Regular version

I think anyone who wants a stardew sequel just wants to the see the 2 in the title without knowing what they actually want from it or knowing what ape would be able to deliver that isn't essentially a slight reskin retread.
A good qol would be great the fishing and combat needs to be improved. The town and mining and dungeon could be improved. Also the festivles would get rid of prizes you win cos once you win then its pointless being there.
It's easy to say better, but how? Festivals need more variety with the rewards, not to remove them. Year 2 should see some additional festivals as well with others like the luau alternating to every other year to help keep things fresh.

Ape is literally set for life. Stardew sold millions of copies for 20$ a pop. He's at the point where he'll never have to worry about money again as long as he doesnt go full moron. His life isn't about making money anymore, it's about making KINO games. Stardew2 would be completely pointless. There's nothing new he could add that wouldn't feel like just a regular update. Honestly, if I ever wrote a mod for Stardew, it would change basically none of the mechanics and just do a new setting with new characters. Maybe a flipside of the world and have it in to Gotoro Empire with a different sort of flavor.

If there's no new content then I doubt it. If anything many old mods will die and stay dead because the mod authors left ages ago, and fixing their work without asking is haram.
Pathoschild has been fixing and maintaining tons of old important mods and there's a bunch of people making unofficial patches for mods they like. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

One of the nice things about stardew modding is very few seem to care about that, unlike games like skyrim where it's a minefield of who will throw a huge fit or not.

Only for the patio, which was a huge issue considering how little space there is. I figured out why Jas's room keeps overwritting others too, that's because the mod adds a tmx file directly to the map when the appropriate method is picture related, which solves the issue. The row of rooms still looks ugly and it doesn't look like the author plans on fixing it, unfortunately.
Yeah a fix was provided for that a while back. It was around that time I found out free love has way more issues than I had thought and just started waiting for it to iron them out.

Now if free love could work properly. I had a problem with another mod called "planned family" because I only wanted a daughter and the mod let you pick the gender. But later for some reason it started to make a baby every single day. I had to go back a few weeks to make the game work properly again because even after mod removal, the problem stayed. Remember always have a save file copy before big changes, to prevent bug mess with your gameplay.

I got an animal key from Morgan after finding the wizard's ring for her. Is the reward supposed to be that it makes my barn animals give birth every time I sleep with it because that's what I've noticed has been happening since no event or anything played but my cows kept giving birth nearly every night.
No, the reward is always the item you get in the mail after sleeping with the item (under very rare circumstances you may have to sleep with it for two nights, but it usually works on the first). I had to keep it vague in-game to not break >immersion.

The reward was a custom recipe, look for one that uses omelets. I'm not too sure about the quest, I used the game's own special order system instead of any external mods, plus it's been ages since I've tested it since it was from an older update.
It's extremely streamlined and simple, but of course it depends on what you want to do.

main thing I'd suggest is adding a bit of something on the floor. It's a very large area and there's not a lot of break up for the stone floor.
Compare it to grass floor, it has a lot of random details so it doesn't look like a 100% repeating pattern. It needs a bit of randomness to it.

You get one character saying something along the lines like "oh stardew is pretty disconnected from the rest of the world" and then you hear a couple other characters say "oh this super dark war is affecting all of us" "oh muh medications and trauma".
It's pretty jarring and doesn't belong in the game.
Never played the original game? Kent's a vanilla character who spends the first year fighting in that war. SVE just mentions it a bit more. Sophia's genuinely a dog shit character, though. She's more of a nerd wet dream caricature than an actual person who has any business being in that town.

For all the good 1.6 appears to be doing for future modding, it doesn't seem to touch the farmer at all. Really wish it would make the farmer more efficient and versatile to work with. I don't think it would be that difficult to do. Just have a subtle different colored pixel somewhere consistent in the middle of the sprite hidden by a shirt/arms overlay where the color determines direction and height. If there's a discrepancy between the hair and shirt heights, add another pixel beside it to specify the shirt's height.
What really gets me is the spritesheet for pants, I can't make sense of it at all no matter how much I look at the wiki modding page.
Most modders say the same. The farmer sprites are dificult to midify or handle. That's why the porn scenes are hard to make.
Pants are just 1:1 overlays copy pasted 25+ times for all the different pants variations. It is also a pain in the ass to work with, but it's simple enough to brute force changes for existing farmer sprites at least. For the farmer himself, you're limited to what's already there.

Anon... you don't actually need to make costumes for every single portrait, the player will never be able to any besides the basic reaction ones unless the Jas mod explicitly calls for them. That's because festival costumes usually are set only to appear in the "town, temp" instance through Content Patcher, where all festivals take place.
Yeah I agree. Unless someone create a toggle of some sort where the player can choose what outfit Jas wear during the normal days.
For festivals this is likely true. But for the other seasonal outfits I'd get white screens for the portrait unless I did it for all the Jasmod faces. And at this point I've just gotten into the motions of doing all of them, as they're pretty much all the same shape aside from facial expressions.
I don't really have plans to make outfits for every single scenario, but it's not off the table. Even if I do, having a choice for players is good too, or maybe I'll include yours in the mod as an option or random occurrence if you want.
If you use aseprites layers, animation frames and spritesheet export features well, you don't have to copy paste things like outfits or minor changes for every expression.

Highly recommend giving it a chance and I'm pretty sure it's included with the creation pack in the rentry. It's very simple as it's exclusively for pixel art and the time spent learning it will be nothing compared to the time saved working with it.

It is. I'd like to post an updated version since the one on the Rentry is like six months old but my private tracker doesn't have it yet.
Also, if you're planning on doing the sprites too, you'll only need to do the base game sprites for most situations. Don't go in thinking you need to add all the different clothes to every single sprite like you're doing for these portraits or you'll burn out right then and there.

I read about players what have six diferent wifes in their gameplays. It seem like you can have as much as you want, but be careful with Free Love and any other mod related with spouses, because it can mess your savefile in one way or another. Before proceed, make sure you have a savefile copy from when everything was fine.

It really depends on whether your custom map is replacing an existing map or not. If it's a replacer, they could interact, otherwise they definitely won't.
It only changes the top right bit of your farm, as long as the house isn't placed there it should be fine. Also, I forgot to mention this in the read me like a dumbass. On an existing save, you'll need to use https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4715 to get rid of the permanent bushes. Never used this mod personally, so I can't guarantee how well it works.

Everything from the anons here is placed in the last folder, to be loaded at the very end. The order of things doesn't make it work either. Some mods are powerful enough to don't let others load. I have the same problem with one of the monster girls mod.
The map edits are set to modify the vanilla maps only. If his farm uses a custom map name, I suppose he could add it to the target line and figure out some proper coordinates but otherwise I don't think there's a solution.
No big deal, don't worry. This will help other anon player using the vanilla maps. We can confirm it doesn't work with unique mod maps.

If I knew anything about modding and programming I'd make my own expansion mod for the desert making a town there just so I can have a Hawaiian foreigner working there with his own food place called the Aloha Snackbar.
Someone made that as a mod some years ago. it seem like doesn't work anymore especially after how SVE edited the desert.
How hard is to make an sprite from scratch? I mean, or the anon here is a genius, or no many people are interesed in create new characters for the game? With many loved characters in anime, I'm surprise there isn't more.
Not that hard, I'd say. At this level of detail, you can think of spriting as a puzzle where you need some trial and error for something to look satisfying (with the exception of shading which is always a pain I guess). Also helps if you use Jas as a template, especially for characters with dresses.

idk about everyone else, but I really dont get the point of porting characters from other series to stardew, they always seem out of place for the most part or strange at the very least, and creating a new character altogether that's appealing is definitely a taller order
Depends on the character being ported. I'm not a huge fan of crossovers either, but if they're done subtly or they fit with the world they can be cool. Original characters built from the ground up with the world in mind do tend to be much better when done well, but they can also be done a lot worse if they're oc donut steel types.
That's why I brought up Sakuna earlier in the thread, she'd fit in the game since I'm pretty sure they have an Asian country in the Stardew World.
She wouldn't really fit randomly being/living in the town, but if she got her own farm maybe that you could visit from the bus and some of the other characters like tauemon were with her that would be a pretty neat crossover.
I guess it doesnt matter so much as long as people write them to belong in the world they're in rather then have them constantly referencing the completely different setting they come from.
I've found myself thinking it'd be cool to have a Muffet npc just for spider pussy. but still feel iffy about the whole idea, makes me think it'd be better to have it be a character similar in design but different enough to justify themselves as a 'stardew' npc more than a crossover character.
Not my thing, but she'd be fine if she were hidden away and weren't walking about town like she belonged. As long as she's hidden in the mines somewhere and nobody's making any random forced undertale references out of nowhere. Madotsuki doesn't really fit stardew either, but her mod makes her work well in spite of that because even though she's in the game, she's still very separated from it.
Making a single sprite isn't hard. Making all the sprites, portraits, dialogue, events, schedules, etc. to make an actual custom npc is a lot more work, especially if you want to do it well.
That make sense. That's probably why there aren't many characters imported.
As someone who has spent tons of hours just modifying existing characters sprites, dialogue, and events. I now appreciate how much effort it takes for modders to make a custom NPC from scratch.

I have a question for MorganAnon: Did you created an special order/quest for her? I found one about deliver 10 iridium bars, but no sure if was for her or the old Morgan. Now my iridium gone and I got a bell sound after sleep so....I made it? What was the reward?
That's a quest from the mod, indeed. This one doesn't have special items or anything, since it was fron an older update. You should've received 15k and a prismatic shard in the mail after waking up
I didnt, there wasn't any mail. Then again the quest was one day only so....I had to deliver it the same day I accepted it? Btw the items just dissapeared from my inventory and furnaces and I think I had more than 10. Also I accepted this in a season change, from fall to winter. I think some sort of bug happened maybe.
You must've accepted the quest when it was on its last day, I did it myself after the town reset its weekly quests and I had a 10 day limit.
I see, then again doesn't explain my items all gone. No big deal, those can be replaced easy. I guess is not a good idea accept a quest before the season change. If the quest is repeatable I might try it again to test if it works properly.

Well, time limits for special orders start counting down from the moment they appear on the board, and her quest had a duration of one week. If you gave her the bars and she said something like "I can feel the energy emanating from these", then you definitely completed it. Maybe the anon from earlier was right and the quest really is buggy, I'll see what I can do later.
No I didn't deliver it. The wiki say quests can be completed even if you don't talk with the requester. I got a bell sound of "unlocked" after sleep so I thought it was related to the quest. But all the iridium bars did gone from my inventory and even the ones left in the furnaces. Like I said, I'll test it again later if it appear again, but the quest might be buggy for sure in certain circunstances.
This particular quest was requires delivering items to the character, as you can see from the "type" section, so you didn't finish it. Putting that aside, I never heard about this disappearing iridium issue so I might have to remove the quest entirely if I can't fix it, assuming it's the problem. It's fairly serious.
If I get the special orders modding documentation right it's the "ItemToRemoveOnEnd" that is removing all the iridium bars. The documentation says: "Removes all instances of the specified item ID from all inventories and containers. Used to prevent keeping hold of quest items. "
Make sense. Maybe it can be fixed after all?

I went to check as the wiki mention you can recover items from quests there. But nothing. If I wasn't the only one with this problem then the quest is bugged for sure and need a fix or removal.
I think I had a bug related to the iridium bars disappearing. I did finish the quest and got the rewards in the mail yet all the iridium bars I had were at some point removed. Even ones I had in chests.

Here's the fix for the special order bug. Sorry for the inconvenience, I'd recommend you to just restore your lost bars with debug commands debug f iridiumbar (number) if you'd like. I also changed some of the text for the secret quest, not sure if anyone finished it but it just sounded really weird to me after a while so it's a bit more fitting now, so sorry for that too. Make sure you replace all folders and Rentry anon can keep the same description as before, just note there's a fix for the special order.
