I'm finally done with e-girl dragon Abigail although I'm not exactly proud of the portraits but I did the best I could. It looks like we're almost finally there, we just need a e-girl Haley mod and I should make an anthro version for the young Penny mod, I thought at first she should have a e-girl version but she would be better off as a hebe and an old sister figure for the others. Also Morgan anon if you're around I'm a man of my word and will eventually get to working on making that jackalope Morgan, I'll be honest seeing all those sprites and portraits to work with was a bit overwhelming but it I think Jas marriage had more or just as much so this will probably take a long time and I might end up being in the dark for awhile about its progress.

like the name suggests the writing itself it's very canon-friendly, you won't find anything that completely kills the characters like in SVE
It's alright. I mean, it does it's job of expanding dialogue very well with its sheer amount of new lines, but if you were to look at all the new lines it adds in a vacuum, you'd notice they feel very 'off' at times.
It's dialogue that blends in seamlessly with the game. It's a must have imo or you start seeing repeating dialogue after a single week. The only people who shouldn't get it are those who're a huge stickler for whether dialogue is official, but even then the dialogue is so tame it's not making out outlandish statements or taking any liberties with the characters so it really doesn't matter, it's all just flavor

Are you ADHD by chance? Not meant as an insult, I am myself and the hardest part of a game for me is starting because I have trouble paying attention long enough to learn the systems and all that other basic ground-level info. Once I get over that I hyper-focus on it until I burn out.

Pretty much. The best thing to do is the boring part first. Like running around town and talking to everyone, going into every single building, and memorizing it all at once so you never have to do it again. Learn how fishing works and just spend days fishing to progress, stuff like that.

A good goal for all beginners is to unlock the community service house and finish the bundles within to unlock the greenhouse and other bonuses.
Ypu can do all this while at the same time grinding those crops to reach ebough money to buy the golden clock and stop your decorations from decayiN2RK0ng.

The first month of the game is a boring slog and the game only gets fun when you have decent capital to throw into whatever it is you want to do.
Play with a friend or get a run speed mod. I love stardew, but I can't play it with the default speed. There's enough mods out there that anyone who has even a passing interest in the genre can find something to stick around a little while for.
I had this problem a year ago when I first played it. It was cool and there's a lot of shit to do, but that was overwhelming in the beginning. my advice is just to accept that youre gonna need to chip away at the game to progress. the game starts pretty slow for the first month because you're gonna be spending a lot of money, but once everything gets rolling its really fun. super addicting gameplay loop

It helped that I wanted to romance Haley, and wanted to get to her dance with me instead of with that loser Alex. She's the only once you can dance with in time, since she loves flowers, and you can find them frequently early game, AND give them to her on her birthday for extra impact. It gave me a solid goal, and with that mindset, I also set to work hustling on my farm.

You farm. Then, you start focusing on aesthetics.

The farm is highly customizable.
Just make the farm you want to see. Buildings are movable after being constructed so you're never "locked in" to your layout.

Personally I do use it, but it's not really needed before you get animals. Paths are enough to protect your crops until then.
I honestly don't see the need for it, I've probably only seen hardwood fences degrade like once or twice from all the time and playthroughs I've done with this game and the stone fences I usually use in early game before being able to grind hardwood lasts a long time.

Mew is easily the second best Pokemon in Red though. That said it's mostly good because it can learn pretty much anything so if you use a Glitch to get it early or teach it garbage then it definitely wouldn't be that impressive, but it still has way better stats than the majority of Pokemon.

it's not a intended easter egg by the dev's, it's a glitch that relies on the way the game code numbers pokemon. Done correctly, you can "summon" any pokemon using this method, even ones who aren't available in Pokemon red or blue. Or you can give yourself the other two starter pokemon, but then you had to level there asses up from 7, and you'd probably be mostly 20-30s level by then.

Don't load up on mods, just get a portrait and optionally canon friendly dialogue and a marriage mod for your first run. Stardew's modding is so huge it's easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole of modding without ever finishing it since there's always going to be more mods to find and try out
Here are some good QoL mods that add better dialog or things that are genuinely useful overall:

Getting back on topic, what are some tricks to dish out as many loved gifts as possible at the start of the game?
I don't think there are any beyond the obvious of look up what a character loves and that's by design otherwise it'd be too easy to cheese. Your best bet is to remember birthdays and give them the highest quality liked gift you have
it's best to focus on only like 4 or 5 NPCs at a time in the early game. if you spread yourself too thin, you are letting them decay. Push like 4 at a time to 10 hearts (so they never decay), and ignore everyone else. You want to start grinding a new person right on their birthday (jumpstart the hearts, reduce decay).
also be aware of seasonal stuff (peppers for lewis in summer, etc).
watch queen of the sauce every sunday to pickup favorite recipes

I'm serious. You will never memorize all of them and they aren't all available year-round. Although, fittingly to IRL, you can get a fair ways just by giving people the right flowers or treats. Some people think you need a boatload of prismatic shards, but that's just not true.

In her vanilla portraits and sprites she has the same skin color as just about anyone else, but most artists like to give her a tan at the very minimum. This makes sense considering how long she stays outside every single day except during rain.

I would create a mod based around the Jas poster. It would give Jas heart events where she starts talking about making a new friend online, then it she would talk about her new online friend wanting to meet her. But once you finish that dialogue the next day Jas would be edited to stay in her room at all times outside of when she is at school, and if you try to talk to her she either has wordless responses or says nearly nothing.

I've always wanted to go through and properly flesh out the characters/spouses in the game, and I mean write convincing dialogue with hundreds of options and moments so you can really feel like they exist and have soul.
I'm a pretty good writer, especially when I have a character framework already constructed for me to work with, I just can't do modding and honestly cannot be bothered to learn all of it just to slake my own ego.

I found a small bug for MorganAnon: The first day of winter, when Morgan ask you to dance, the expression used in it is the wrong one as you can see in the screenshot.
Or nvm, another small event like this pop up, and I start to think is thanks to that mod what give dates to the player with their married characters. Then again that mod choose the wrong expressions sadly.

you don't have to worry about her being on the farm causing events not to trigger, the 10 and 12 heart events only trigger on fridays from what i saw, and it just so happens that fridays are the days when she goes out to the wizard's tower to study so you shouldn't have any problems on that front
Just to correct you a bit, it's the 12 and 14 heart events that only activate on fridays. It's tricky but it's the only way I found to keep everything logical.

I don't know. I already watched the 2,4,6,8 and 10 hearts events before marry her. For the new 12 and 14 hearts event you have to marry her to unlock those. I don't think you'll miss the events, but then again you can always use smapi to trigger the events if needed.
How do you use smapi to rewatch old events anyway? Isn't that why we need that event repeater mod?
you write: debug ebi ..... <---- the ID of the event you want to watch. Keep in mind to watch the event you have to fulfill the requirements. For example if an event is set to happen when the character have 8 hearts, but this character doesn't have it, it won't load. And if it does it will glitch badly.

For me I install mods that speed up the early game and ones that have more late game potential.
Otherwise you finally start the game back up for the first time in a few months and you realize the first two seasons are going to be the same brutal grind if you want any chance of enjoying the fall/winter.
Keep in mind, regardless of what others might say the mods that let you enjoy the game the most are the best and most important ones to download.
The early game grind is the real meat of the game. Every second counts, every coin, every fish. The joy in replaying that first spring over and over again to get the perfect start.

I can see them being given as novelty items. Not that useful in a game like SDV where there's no reason to use anything that doesn't have the biggest number, but it's fun nonetheless.

All of that's true. It's not completely without merit but it's probably not worth the trouble. You might be able to find smaller mods that let you pick and choose with stuff like just having the bigger farm.
A lot of people in these threads have claimed that Ridgeside is a better "expansion" mod though it still has some cringe shit, I've never used it but you can judge it for yourself.

Playing the game for the first time in over a year, figured I'd mod this time. Is SVE as bad as I hear? Told it added a bunch of out of place magic shit, a teen animu waifu who runs a vineyard alone, extra farm plots everywhere, a random boomer cuck, and a rich mom/son that you can marry. I had hoped it just "expanded" areas making them bigger/more varied but no.
SVE does add the extra characters, and adds more lore to the magic (Rasmodeus is even romance-able).
You can change the age of the teenage vineyard waifu, though.
eh, both look at surface level to have that issue large mods tend to have, and that's a lot of out of place fanon shit. SVE adds political/lgbt woe shit (And Dusty looks like he was drawn by a furry I just get that vibe), and Ridgeside adds... an elf? And way to much interaction with vanilla NPC's for this to be its own town a distance away. I do like the inclusion of an inn at least. Both add way to much content though. I just wanted something like Deepwoods that turns the woods into a forage dungeon like the mines. I don't need 100 new npcs and seasonal events written by 1-3 teenagers.

There is an extra giant-ass field (Grampleton Fields). It's entirely optional to playing SVE itself and it's something of a meme within the SVE community; a synonym for "turbo-mega-autism" for anyone actually trying to farm it solo. There is not enough time in the game day even with 4 players to reasonably run it.

Four Corners or the rivers map. Rivers cuts your farming down hard and doesn't give anything good from fishing.
Actually rivers has more farmland than hilltop, so I guess Hilltop is worse. Forage map looks comfy but has even less.
Hilltop doesn't have the issue where your stuff falls in the river.
Fair enough. Never actually played hilltop. Might do that one next just to try it. I enjoy the beach but manually watering everything sucks.
Wilderness. Not sure what Ape was thinking with this one considering you can have monsters with any farm type with the advanced options.

Every single farm is inferior to the default option. Beach farm can beat it lategame when you've grinded your brains away and crafted enough nuclear water retaining soil and pots for sheds.

Why is this game popular still? I don't get it. You arrange some green and brown pixels in a square in a way that looks good to you and keep doing busywork to maintain it for no reason indefinitely. I don't see the appeal beyond the first two hours of exploration. Do you have to be schizophrenic to play this?
It’s a more finished version of harvest moon. It’s the cozy and casual game, and nothing has bested it in that aspect.
Concernedape adds significant content often enough in updates that keeps people talking about it. A console port only helped continue audiences.
It’s similar to the Sims in that there’s no end-point to playing. You can just do things because you want to see what would happen or it’d be a challenge.
Then you have the whole Waifu/Husbando wars this game invites with the marriage candidates. A good waifu war can extend the shelf life of a franchise by at least an extra 20 years. Stardew isn’t that strong of a waifu wars, but good enough to extend several years. The last update was 2019, so it’s only really been out for 3 years.
It’s also streamable since you get the reaction content to the strange events (Iridium Snake Milk). It’s also hard to play the game too wrong, so the backs eaters are more able to sit back and enjoy.

A mods that makes you pay sales tax. Another that varies the price of crops during the current season so you can't spam the most 1-2 valuable things time after time for easy money. And one that requires at least basic fertilizer or your non-tree crops have a chance to not grow at all. A randomizer each night for each farm animal to need vet services, ranging from a few bucks to $$$$$. This will begin to put you within some range of how difficult it is to actually farm.
I know the first one actually exists on Nexus, if the others don't exist they should.
