they're all very faithful to the first film, but not the book.
shame Extermination's devs seem dense and don't want to offer community servers and mod support.
>shame Extermination's devs seem dense and don't want to offer community servers and mod support.
Yeah that's kinda shitty, that's the sort of thing that keeps people around for years after official support ends.
yeah, I really hate the idea of wanting to play this a couple years from now and not being able to because they shut off their servers and that's the end of the game forever. just a digital brick.
though they'd also need to add bot support, this game would be impossibly difficult in it's current state solo or even with just a small group of players.
>bot support
I'd play solo with 15 bots every other game just to quench the rage of being with 15 morons

yeah I'm also very baffled that the game doesn't have any sort of vote kick right now.
Kinda worried about helldivers 2. First one was great, but now they turned it into a third person over the shoulder shooter? Was there even any mechs in the trailer? Or an enemy other than bugs? Might as well just be a shittier EDF if not.
>Or an enemy other than bugs?
Why would you even want the other two factions, they were always the only ones available because people only enjoy fighting the bugs so they'd get eradicated first.
the other two were boring.

I don't really feel the need to kick anyone, I'm simply annoyed people are so dumb when it comes to building a base

The other two factions pose different tactics and challenge then the bugs all out Swarm mentality with the occasional Gimmick unit that does a certain purpose. Cyborgs were fun due to a mixture of ballistics and heavy Vehicle units. Illuminates had a neat challenge that is basically testing your knowledge on awareness. If 2 us just has Bugs then that's losing a small bit of what made 1 great even if you don't like either faction even then it made it stand out
>but not the book
what the book video game would be: >5 min of being a meched out ironman in a troop of meched out ironmen blowing the shit out of bugs while flying > cut to black. go back in time to the start of it all >80 hours of lore/school studying cut scenes. maybe with an algebra mini-game >ends with a half hour of on the rails action like the opening but very little player choice >big reveal!! Rico is an Aborigine!! Take that nazi chuds. Low IQ people of color can be marines too!!
The literary golden age of sci-fi was preachy trash and can't be translated into Fun videogames
Seeing how diffrent the film is to the book. There is hardly a way to be faithfull to the both of them. So they just choice the movies cause they are more famous.
I mean, does that matter? I would understand if it was a sequel or something akin to that, but the games seem to purposefully be the based on the misinterpretation that it is solely about war being cool like EDF.
>orbital drop combat insertions >power armored troops >liberal use of tactical nuclear weapons
Games based of the books have a lot more potential for fun.
So it's Helldivers?
I was told the book has other aliens also, so potentially more biomes.

I would hope that Helldivers 2 would try and just replicate EDF and be the wests version of it but I know it will never happen. I dont even see how they will still include vehicles in 3rd person, because unlike the isometric version, the edge of the screen is not a barrier the players can cross, whats stopping players from running off on their own besides limitations like just killing the player for going too far ahead/behind.
Make the enemies so lethal you can't face them alone? Require multiple players to operate vehicles optimally and to complete objectives? Disable stratagems if players are too far apart?

Some places of them were nuked because they were helping the bugs for some reason. But they changed sides.
Based on the original post and thread I would argue that OP is more on team bug killing than team well written satire personally, but I don't want to inscribe beliefs on him because he seems cool. I also don't really see anything wrong with other entries in a series not exactly following the themes and tone of the original work, so long as it doesn't shit on the things that came before it or contradict them in a meaningful way. Which is why I asked.
By itself the movie is pretty entertaining as a parody of the book, but they really shouldn't keep it going in other media especially when the movie is 25 years old now. It's okay to make other games that pay homage to the movie though.
I think they're too broke for laywers given they're basically trying to crowdfuns their way out of poverty. I wouldn't fear any legal team they can afford.
The Book is so good.
Paul is just a draftdodger & just wanted to dunk on the Nazis.
I love this era of power armor. >Protective suit that transforms you into more than human; faster, stronger, indestructible
Basically sci-fi medieval knights. Clunky mechs and other "super advanced armor, but with a downside to balance it out", like what they did to the power armor in Fallout 4, are so lame.
Yeah, all of the games treat the film very literally, but even then they can never explain how the bugs are possibly a threat given that they lack any form of space-transport other than shitting spores into space.
You're going to be disappointed if you think you can translate a movie to a videogame without making some concessions.
My only problem with the game is it's very obviously early access, I hope they don't abandon it. It could be a 9/10 if they polish up the animations/gunplay and add some more game modes.
I love the idea of having to split up your team to collect resources/do objectives while defending the base.
I initially ignored this as I'm not really into the Aliens universe but this video got me really interested in the game. I love games that let me watch AI fight in real time and adding in little stuff like gear management scratches an itch I've always had. Hopefully the game is actually as good as I think it might be.
Imo I think studios just look at the massive failures of things like colonial marines and just think it's too difficult to master the xenomorph movement to try to make another fps game just because the colonial marines devs fricked it up.
The winning formula for alien movement is in avp 2009 just copy that shit 1:1 and then build the game around it.
Uh look good, but all I want is something like Alien vs Predator 2 and play as a marine against much stronger foes, I want to feel hopeless and scared as an alien (another player) tried to kill me
Kinda worried about helldivers 2. First one was great, but now they turned it into a third person over the shoulder shooter? Was there even any mechs in the trailer? Or an enemy other than bugs? Might as well just be a shittier EDF if not.
>Not even peak Blizzard could do it with StarCraft
Peak blizzard couldn't do shit well in anything but isometric format.
This includes fricking world of warcraft, where the change in perspective was literally aesthetic and that's fricking it..
Because they were bought by activision and had devs from cow shitty making the game work.
Also, they were no longer peak blizzard no matter how much you want to think that.
Right now there’s only one map, two game modes, and three classes. Each class seems to only have about half of their unlocks available. If you’re unsure you can always wait to see how often and what kind of updates the devs push. All that being said though it is a good time and I wish there were more larger scale coop games.
Very little content but one map and one gun would be enough to have fun killing bugs.
They can add a billion guns it won't change much. More mission types, maps and enemies would be welcome, however.
If $25 is worth a night of fun to you then yes. I have played it twice in 2 weeks. It lacks content and feels like a cash-grab, but one with some potential.
It's a good proof of concept but it is very light on content. If $25 burger bucks is enough for you to feel scammed then don't bother until it gets an update or two and we see if the devs actually care about it or not.
It's the last stand between letting total decadence and degeneracy run rampant in today's society by letting THEM feed us bugs and popularize them even in a sexual way.The moment you see articles popping up about STOP KILLING THE BUGS THEY'RE GOOD FOR YOU HERE'S WHY and these games stop being made is when it's going to be over.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochineal
They've been feeding us bugs since you were a wee cumling and you're just choosing the most fricking inane thing to "make a stand" about.
Especially since most sane people were ok with the idea of synthetic meat, since chemically and biologically it's just fricking meat in the end.
You've been ingesting food dye made from a disgusting infestation of writhing bugs in your red meat (they add dye so it looks redder and fresher) and for the red tincture of the junk food you consume daily you FATSO.
It's not fun its fricking boring >running around collecting boxes at the end of every mission leaving one bug alive >weapon unlocks on certain difficulties aren't even enough to beat the game >certain classes are just dogshit like ranger >playing the same map over and over again >higher difficulties are just stat checks for armour and weapons >vehicles are complete jank and can get tossed about the map with no weight behind them at all
Bugs didnt nuke, they shot a fricking meteor in to Earth. They deserve the planetbuster bombs on their ass. Im from Buenos Aires and say, kill them all.
Lmao, how did humanity makes interstelar travel work? What about time dilatation.
Its said in the books the bugs were an advance civilization but with a evolution and way of life extremelly alien. There are even civilians in the bug worlds that the troopers ignore in combat.
>don't know if those games are good because every review is "I'm doing my part" or "would you like to know more"

How about you stop being a moronic homosexual for a second and go watch some videos of the game to see if it's your kind of game. Then maybe read negative reviews and threads here to avoid any of your red flags if there are any
Paul Verhoeven is the best film director in the world. All his films are full of black humor, satire, violence and eroticism. And the fact that game developers are still trying to create games based on his films proves how great an artist he is
I really like Paul Verhoven's work. But he fricked up hard not putting Power armor in Starship Troopers. I assume it was a budget issue, but a mistake none the less.
I know they motion capture real animals for digital versions, but fantasy and sci-fi creatures are usually motion captured by normal actors nowadays. It's simply cheaper.
Not dunking on CG, I've nod CG work and its hard and painfully long. But there is something really nice about old movies with the models and the puppetry, it was visually exiting to see how they create the illusion of realism with whatever materials they had at hand.
I am pretty sure it was by design to show how expendable and worthless soldiers of le totalitarian le undemocratic le fascist regime are, in opposition to humanity valuing its fighters and decking them out in all sorts of high tech shit in the book.
Was the Starship Troopers movie supposed to be satirical, or is that just a cope by the director/journalists? Because it really just feels like self-indulgent fun. If it was aiming to be critical of anything it clearly ended up being a propaganda piece of itself.
There is a theory that the whole movie is meta. That is, according to the director's idea, this film was shot in this society of the future and is served as a broadcast from local television with breaks for advertising and news. As viewers, we are not watching movies, but television of the future, where humanity has built a quasi-fascist militaristic regime, so the film intentionally looks like a film propaganda.
It doesn’t really hold when you watch the movie though. Everything that is “propaganda” is true though, hell the opening scene of the MI getting their shit pushed in on Klendathu is the exact opposite thing a fascist government would show their citizens. Our superior and triumphant forces getting completely routed? Not around here, comrade! Add in the usual stupid take of Buenos Aires being an inside job is wrong as we see the asteroid that takes out the city destroy the comma tower of the cruiser that could’ve reported it to Terran Command.
Paul Verhoeven is really good at making sci-fi pulp action fiction, but is pretty stupid with satire.
Buenos Aires being a genuine bug attack raises so many unanswerable questions that it being a false flag is the only version of events that actually makes any sense.
Apparently it was intended to be "satire" of original novel which contained too many ideas that didn't appeal to HIV-positive pedophiles from Hollywood. But they weren't able to do even that right because Hollywood shit is supposed to be primitive and basic by design.
Actual critique of "Startship troopers" novel is "The forever war" novel.
>Actual critique of "Startship troopers" novel is "The forever war" novel.
Haldeman's inability to write an ending actually worked in Forever War.
In every single other novel of his, not so much.
About what? I live better than the average amerilard.
Enjoy getting robbed by nogs and getting shot by cops while a rabid hobo stabs you in the nutsack with his aids infected needle.

Ended up being the coolest action shit.
In my head he was always tricked by some clever motherfricker to do this kind of movies because he hates america.

>Emma Watson decides to destroy Mars because it is a symbol of toxic masculinity
Pretty sure the reason she wanted to destroy Mars is because the colonists wanted to declare independence and split from the federation, which might lead to future colonies doing the same shit as well. Also she did it for the ratings.

That's the worst, and steam forums are full of dumbasses saying the same thing to totally ignore gas because they want to play basebuilder for an hour straight. Then the endless horde starts and the bugs are too weak to actually finish the job but for us to finish the mission we now have to do 2 gas runs (and wait for refinery cooldown in between) while also defending the base from nonstop bugs.
They really need to flesh out squads, right now you have to tardwrangle 16 people at once to get anything done which is borderline impossible compared to 4 squads of 4. It's stupid how there isn't even a separate voice channel for it
which one of the games are you guys talking about?

Its a lot to expect a lobby of that many people able to function perfectly, even with mics. >people ignoring gas because they just want to build a fricking hedge maze for an hour
At least there is a horde mode coming so these people will have a place. I think they could make it so that there is greater rewards for following the squad leaders commands, where if the leader isnt doing their job you can just opt to replace them like it does in Battlefield 1, where if they dont start giving orders after you opt to replace them then you just replace them. Its a good method of getting people to fricking do something.
It's actually infuriating that it say at the top GATHER GAS and the gas is like 200 meters away but NOBODY can be fricked to go and get it. They just want to turtle in the base and shoot bugs, meanwhile nothing gets accomplished and I've spent 45 minutes trying to get the gas solo and it never works out because the game is designed with teamplay in mind.
Only excited for Helldivers 2 now that I literally found out about it from your post.
Helldivers 1 was the true GOTY coop game for the first couple of years after it came out on PC, they had fricking BALLS to make friendly fire ACTUALLY HURT and be a key part of the gameplay..
>enough money to buy the game >no time or energy to play multiplayer shit >just want to get lost in comfy low effort stuff for hours on end
Being old is suffering
The game is "comfy" and by that I mean literally braindead easy. I play with a controller and I don't even need to aim. I just point my gun in a general direction and I always kill some bugs.
>Extermination is gonna die fast as frick unless the devs get to new content fast.
Yeah there is no way it'll be able to hold those 10k players unless they push out new content fast.
Mandatory military service, especially to get societal perks that not even richgays can buy their way into, is unironically a great system. Don't give a frick what Verhoover thinks.
It's mandatory to vote, although it doesn't have to be military service specifically. I think that was just the fastest way
Federal Service was necessary to get citizenship. However, the only real benefit as explained in the book is the right to vote. There were many non-combat jobs available, either available directly with the prerequisite skills or pity desk jobs given to those who did their best but got a medical dq. The entire time in the book they try to discourage people from signing up or staying on. But if you actually stick with it and don't break any major rules, they wouldn't fully kick you out either. You might not make Mobile Infantry or whatever job you originally signed up for, but they'll give you something.
These are some of reasons why I hate the movie adaptation. I don't agree completely with the book's views, but likening it to fascism just doesn't work. Paul Verhoeven admitted to finding the book too boring to finish, so he probably doesn't actually understand the source material.
>so he probably doesn't actually understand the source material.
All the Dutch in the nutshell.
They are a weird pygmy thing when it comes to the Nords.
This much is true, but I can of understand why the system is flawed, you are basically concentrating the political power and the military power in the same basket, I can see how fascism can grow from there.
>join extermination game >everyone is really getting into it, howling in terror when a bug gets then and shouting BUUUGS! when a swarm approaches
It's barebones, but the people you play with make it so very worth it.

the fricking irony.
>get drafted to die in a pointless war against insects because the leadership's number one principle is that your civilization always has to be fighting something >TEN TIMES BETTER MUH MILITARIZED SOCIETY
Why don't you go to Ukraine and fight there, clearly you are of the superior stock and you will fare well there. Then you can build your epic utopia once you liberate the country.
No one gets drafted to do anything in the Federation. It’s all voluntary, even when the federation lost damn near all its officer corps they still didn’t institute a draft to make up the difference.
War in Ukraine would've been over in a few days if it was actually fought as a war like in the book, you spastic moron. Just like Vietnam would've been over if USA had just nuked Hanoi and the commie leadership, and the overall casualties would've been in the low 10s of thousands instead of the +3 MILLION. Likely without a single casualty to the US to boot. But even supposing that some men need to sacrifice their lives to have a greater society, why not? They're already sacrificing themselves with drugs, suicide, grifter wars etc without anything to show for it! The hell do you think "veterans took control" means, did you even watch the movie?
Nobody wants to use nukes you idiot, the moment someone opens that genie bottle everyone including the non americans will be using them for the smallest things.
Using nukes as the baseline response to conflict isn’t a great idea, there’s no de-escalation from nuclear warfare outside of total annihilation.
>Just like Vietnam would've been over if USA had just nuked Hanoi and the commie leadership, and the overall casualties would've been in the low 10s of thousands instead of the +3 MILLION.
They wouldn't be in the low 10s of thousands for long after Russia and every other country with nuclear capabilities noticed the US launching nukes, freaked out, and started launching their own nukes. That was the period of time where everyone had their finger hovering over the nuke button waiting to see who would nuke who first after all
I think it's pretty obvious that Anon said "nuke" as hyperbole for a route to aggressive, decisive victory conditions as opposed to slow useless half-measures. The point is that Russia isn't throwing its weight to actually fricking capture the capital or wherever the government is operating.
>The point is that Russia isn't throwing its weight to actually fricking capture the capital or wherever the government is operating.
What weight? They have no real weight since a good portion of their troops don't want this shit and keep desserting.
>if it was actually fought as a war like in the book

I parked my ass in the HQ and placed dispensers for the whole AAS game. In only 20 minutes, I had over 10,000 xp. My team was flabbergasted when our squad (just me) had the most points by a huge margin. All the unlocks for Operator and Hunter are mine now. For anyone wondering, the Nuke mine sucks.
>My team was flabbergasted when our squad (just me) had the most points by a huge margin.
As if you could know lmao, nobody looks at this score
622 is lot though
How does a military capable of interstellar travel lose to bugs who need to be in CQC range to do any damage (aside from the ranged bugs who don't make up the bulk of the bugs)? The only answer I can think off is they want the soldiers to die hence why they send them in to the meatgrinder, but why? It doesn't make any sense.
Propaganda for what though? It already seems like a utopia and people would enlist just to colonize the new planets and get the ability to vote/have kids alone.
>Propaganda for what though
To get people to fight for bug oil in space afghanistan.
Their whole society as we see it has been built around the idea that bugs are constantly sending invasion asteroids towards earth and that the military is the last line of defense against a full-scale invasion.
The reality is that the asteroids that were sent towards earth would take millions of years to arrive and the bugs didn't even know humanity existed.
The fricked turbo-killing machine bugs wee literally spawned as a counter-measure for humanity doing what they do on their planet, their only innate ability was mutating with each iteration.
>They clearly aren't just brainless animals acting on pure instinct.
Army ants are constantly at war with other insects. They employ methods that would make the Geneva convention look like little league baseball. Unlike wolves or other creatures which mark territory to dissuade intruders, ants will attrition-war their neighbors until they are utterly exterminated. The Arachnids follow a similar philosophy. You don't evolve entire sub-species dedicated to sucking brains out if you had any intention of negotiating or communicating with others.
Its literally because some idiots tried to make a colony on a bug planet, ignoring all the warnings from the federation. the bugs chimped out and then shot a meteor at earth
>“Social responsibility above the level of family, or at most of tribe, requires imagination-- devotion, loyalty, all the higher virtues -- which a man must develop himself; if he has them forced down him, he will vomit them out.”
>“The bugs are not like us. The Pseudo-Arachnids aren’t even like spiders. They are arthropods who happen to look like a madman’s conception of a giant intelligent spider, but their organization, psychological and economic, is more like that of ants or termites; they are communal entities, the ultimate dictatorship of the hive.”
>“Every time we killed a thousand Bugs at a cost of one M.I. it was a net victory for the Bugs. We were learning, expensively, just how efficient a total communism can be when used by a people actually adapted to it by evolution; the Bug commisars didn't care any more about expending soldiers than we cared about expending ammo. Perhaps we could have figured this out about the Bugs by noting the grief the Chinese Hegemony gave the Russo-Anglo-American Alliance; however the trouble with 'lessons from history' is that we usually read them best after falling flat on our chins.”
That's the funniest part about Extermination. The chinks are currently the only ones competent enough to make a good ST game about a militarized Meritocracy built from the radioactive ashes of an Anglo-Sino World War
i am so fricking desperate for a shotgun in this. i feel they need to restrict the weapons between the classes a bit better - right now, the only non-SAW worth using is the sniper rifle, and the 2nd pistol utterly mogs the first one.
I'd expect anything that's currently in the files but not usable to be an early content drop, they're probably not going to scrap the shotgun when it actually looks completed compared to some other half assed things. here's the loading screen they have for their shooting range test level. the SAW actually has data for bipod accuracy and reload times, every single gun also has data for prone accuracy which I assume was scrapped.
it's an unreal engine game anon, the AES key has been posted online and you can use fmodel or umodel to browse the files. these are my leaks that I only posted yesterday in /coopg/ because that's the only thread slightly related to this game that was up. here's the WIP gas truck in umodel that fmodel only loads as invisible.

not really, bombadier bugs from the third movie which are modeled and have their data files ready which I assume are coming with horde mode
The Morita should have access to an underslung shotgun but it doesn't for some reason.
there's no underbarrels at all unless you want to count the SAW's bipod. there's a reflex sight, a suppressor, and a couple scopes as the attachments in the files.
Modern FPS games cannot-into secondary firemodes anymore, so you end up with pulserifles in Aliens without the grenade launchers, and moritas without the shotguns.
What's odd is that I'm fairly certain one of the loading screens/popups/whatever prominently features a Morita that clearly has the shotgun but it isn't in the game at all.
frick the combat, i want a game about the totalitarian state of heinleins source material. really leaning into the Civilian vs. Citizen angle. same thing i want from any warhammer game. not some stupid "hurr shooting monsters is fun xD" game but one that is all about the society and culture of a world like that.
i have read heinleins book and it's just fricking boring. he was great at fleshing out the lore and societal structures but he couldn't write interesting characters or a gripping story to save his life.
now think of what you want from a game design perspective. the gameplay is going to be gay as shit "le resistance" like we happy few instead of daily life within that societal structure.
Shame that the Starship Troopers games don't understand the source material at all.
They off the mark compared to the film, or the book?
they're all very faithful to the first film, but not the book.

though they'd also need to add bot support, this game would be impossibly difficult in it's current state solo or even with just a small group of players.
>bot support
I'd play solo with 15 bots every other game just to quench the rage of being with 15 morons
yeah I'm also very baffled that the game doesn't have any sort of vote kick right now.
The not-protos were cool. The cyborgs were lame.
>not loving missions against totally-not Strogg
I agree with Illuminates being shit, though.
I hope they keep the cyborgs, It'd be cool to have tank or mech fights with the not strogg
cyborgs are strogg combined with orks
I like the other two factions. They pose different challenges.
If 2 us just has Bugs then that's losing a small bit of what made 1 great even if you don't like either faction even then it made it stand out
>but not the book
what the book video game would be:
>5 min of being a meched out ironman in a troop of meched out ironmen blowing the shit out of bugs while flying
> cut to black. go back in time to the start of it all
>80 hours of lore/school studying cut scenes. maybe with an algebra mini-game
>ends with a half hour of on the rails action like the opening but very little player choice
>big reveal!! Rico is an Aborigine!! Take that nazi chuds. Low IQ people of color can be marines too!!
The literary golden age of sci-fi was preachy trash and can't be translated into Fun videogames
What if we ignore all that and make a game about killing bugs and become citizens through combat
But EVERY real life marine is a low IQ ape though.
>Extermination's devs
anon look at the other name involved
As people said one map but significant variation in what parts of the map you play on and what you do on it
The first movie and the book are both great for their own reasons and neither one is brought down by not being like the other.
Kinda like the Conan The Barbarian.
Must be because Basil Poledouris scored both of those movies.
>I mean, does that matter
>OP: Troopers, we are so back
>modern Troopers games shitting on the source material
>we are so back
>does that matter
Sure.
Explain what makes the book better game-adaption material than the movie everyone wants to relive.
>than the movie
I am not claiming the game faithfully recreates the movie.
I claim they do not understand ANY of the source material.
>orbital drop combat insertions
>power armored troops
>liberal use of tactical nuclear weapons
Games based of the books have a lot more potential for fun.
>books: you play as a jump-pack jumping madlad in power armour
>movie: misunderstood classic that liberals think is fascist
So it's Helldivers?
I was told the book has other aliens also, so potentially more biomes.
Helldivers don't jump around the map lobbing nukes like grenades like the Mobile Infantry do.
>his squad doesn't go in with 2 jetpacks and 14 shredders
Make the enemies so lethal you can't face them alone? Require multiple players to operate vehicles optimally and to complete objectives? Disable stratagems if players are too far apart?
>I was told the book has other aliens also, so potentially more biomes.
Yup. They're called Skinnies and were nuked by the Federation in the opening chapter.
A dlc for them would be great with their specific classes but i doubt they will
I don't think they'd wanna work with us if they were nuked by us.
Some places of them were nuked because they were helping the bugs for some reason. But they changed sides.
>Games based off the books have a lot more potential for fun.
7/10
Imagine Master Chief doing ODST orbital drops and having shoulder-mounted mini-nukes
Dog waifus.
Power armor, minimukes, orbital strikes, fast paced action against bugs, piloting cool airships to mown down bugs
Which is why I asked.
>than team well written satire
>satire
You could try actually saying something, anon. I can take being wrong, but you have to actually explain why.
By itself the movie is pretty entertaining as a parody of the book, but they really shouldn't keep it going in other media especially when the movie is 25 years old now. It's okay to make other games that pay homage to the movie though.
If they made it like the book it would get sued by the Mechwarrior people
The book came out in 19 fricking 59
It doesn't matter, vaguely similar robot designs always wind up attracting their lawyers.
I think they're too broke for laywers given they're basically trying to crowdfuns their way out of poverty. I wouldn't fear any legal team they can afford.
The power armor in the book wasn't huge mechs they were like a robotic suit.
I love this era of power armor.
>Protective suit that transforms you into more than human; faster, stronger, indestructible
Basically sci-fi medieval knights. Clunky mechs and other "super advanced armor, but with a downside to balance it out", like what they did to the power armor in Fallout 4, are so lame.
damn bro you're moronic.
Unless it's a Telltale game, you can't make a game from the source material.
It's licensed from TriStar Pictures. The source material is the movie.
To be fair the book as part where they basically ravage a completely different alien race just because they offered intelligence services to the bugs.
That's fair. If someone is offering intel to your enemy in a war against xeno, they're a threat and a viable target.
you mean the aliens the bugs enslaved and the humans liberated
I think I saw someone on /vst/ claim that the film Starship Troopers is set before the book when they don't have the mechsuits yet.
oh my god you don't even want to talk about videogames frick off. we have like six politics bait threads already.
worse is , they don't understand bugs and what makes them interesting
Yeah, all of the games treat the film very literally, but even then they can never explain how the bugs are possibly a threat given that they lack any form of space-transport other than shitting spores into space.
You're going to be disappointed if you think you can translate a movie to a videogame without making some concessions.
My only problem with the game is it's very obviously early access, I hope they don't abandon it. It could be a 9/10 if they polish up the animations/gunplay and add some more game modes.
I love the idea of having to split up your team to collect resources/do objectives while defending the base.
this one as well
I initially ignored this as I'm not really into the Aliens universe but this video got me really interested in the game. I love games that let me watch AI fight in real time and adding in little stuff like gear management scratches an itch I've always had. Hopefully the game is actually as good as I think it might be.
Tindalos made a mistake of making this some kind of X-Com game instead of a Deathwing/Aliens: Isolation game.
Uh look good, but all I want is something like Alien vs Predator 2 and play as a marine against much stronger foes, I want to feel hopeless and scared as an alien (another player) tried to kill me
>real-time XCOM
Interdasting
Kinda worried about helldivers 2. First one was great, but now they turned it into a third person over the shoulder shooter? Was there even any mechs in the trailer? Or an enemy other than bugs? Might as well just be a shittier EDF if not.
Yes, it's dead. They think that top down will translate to TPS. Not even peak Blizzard could do it with StarCraft. An idie dev team has no chance.
>Not even peak Blizzard could do it with StarCraft
Peak blizzard couldn't do shit well in anything but isometric format.
This includes fricking world of warcraft, where the change in perspective was literally aesthetic and that's fricking it..
But the FPS feel and optimization of overwatch 1 were art. They nailed the thing making a first time FPS.
Because they were bought by activision and had devs from cow shitty making the game work.
Also, they were no longer peak blizzard no matter how much you want to think that.
hows the FPS game on content? would totally pick it up but i dont want it to be another "spent $25 dollars on a game still in version 0.2.5.1.3"
Why are bug shooters back in such a big way?
Probably the most common enemy archetype we can fight without americans bringing up race issues on social media.
>without americans
without israelites, you need to be specific with these things.
>we dindunuffin
Americans are the biggest israelite enablers you nog.
That'd be germans, so no.
holy cope
Balfour was signed by the Brits.
But the bugs are universally considered to mean Turkish/muslims.
Wasn't there an article comparing Tyranids to israelites?
Is it worth picking up?
Played a lot of KF and KF2 in the past, also some Payday 2.
Enjoying DRG at the moment.
Coop games are getting more popular in general.
Predictive programming.
>A game about Space Americans gunning down bugs ended being good for once
>the devs are chinks
The chinese love bug shooters, the game list on EDF4 and 5 are always full of chink rooms during asia primetime hours
>The chinese love bug shooters
That explains why I keep seeing chink names in Deep Rock Galactic

I forgot to mention at the end of my post but I am transgender (mtf) btw.
we're not back till EDF6 gets an English release
early next year hopefully
>EDF rehashed #1449606066449
Oh frick off, stop trying to ride ST's coattail to shill your cash grab.
>EDF
Why do you weebtards buy and play the same jank PS2 game over and over again?
because it's fun.
have you considered trying to enjoy things?
>getting scammed into buying the exact same game every year is fun
autism
>exact same game
you haven't played them, and you're a homosexual.
It's not fun its fricking boring
>running around collecting boxes at the end of every mission leaving one bug alive
>weapon unlocks on certain difficulties aren't even enough to beat the game
>certain classes are just dogshit like ranger
>playing the same map over and over again
>higher difficulties are just stat checks for armour and weapons
>vehicles are complete jank and can get tossed about the map with no weight behind them at all
The DLC for 6 has actual story and voice lines.
It only took them 15 games.
>Warhead goes through
>Body goes through
>Engine explodes
Did the EDF ran out of ammunition and are just improvising?
hold up
Dont bother its more barebones than SSTE
but i wanted top down helldivers tho

Not really an opinion.
You people know that Buenos Aires was a false flag, right?
Substantiate the claim
Do bugs show the aptitude to build and utilize nuclear weapons?
you mean.. direct an asteroid at their planet? I feel like smart bugs could figure out some way to use gravity to do that. idk.
Bugs didnt nuke, they shot a fricking meteor in to Earth. They deserve the planetbuster bombs on their ass. Im from Buenos Aires and say, kill them all.
They shot a meteor across the galaxy at sublight speed? What, they knew of humanity without inventing the telescope, for millions of years?
Weren't the bugs starspanning empire on themselves?
In the books, yes, and they had starships.
In the films they have a handful of planets, most of which colonized by the humans.
Lmao, how did humanity makes interstelar travel work? What about time dilatation.
Its said in the books the bugs were an advance civilization but with a evolution and way of life extremelly alien. There are even civilians in the bug worlds that the troopers ignore in combat.
The humans have technobabble FTL in the film.
>t. bug
>don't know if those games are good because every review is "I'm doing my part" or "would you like to know more"
Same reason I don't play that dwarf game where every review is "rock and stone", no idea what the game is about
>judging a game based on its steam positive reviews
How about you stop being a moronic homosexual for a second and go watch some videos of the game to see if it's your kind of game. Then maybe read negative reviews and threads here to avoid any of your red flags if there are any
can we just slap astra militarum skins on that game and fight tyranids?
SHINES THE NAME!
The Book is so good.

Paul Verhoeven is the best film director in the world. All his films are full of black humor, satire, violence and eroticism. And the fact that game developers are still trying to create games based on his films proves how great an artist he is
>Everybody got AIDS & Shit!
Of course he is.
He's a Dutch chad. Manlet mutt israelite cutgays can only dream to compete.
I really like Paul Verhoven's work. But he fricked up hard not putting Power armor in Starship Troopers. I assume it was a budget issue, but a mistake none the less.
But those bug designs and animations, still buttery smooth and impressive even today. That’s some quality CGI that still looks good.
They used animatronic puppets to motion capture the animations for the bugs, that's why it looks so good, and lightyears ahead of its time.
Do any movies still do this? I know they mocap humans all the time, but what about other things?
I know they motion capture real animals for digital versions, but fantasy and sci-fi creatures are usually motion captured by normal actors nowadays. It's simply cheaper.
The bugs looked shit in the third film but that's probably because it had a budget of £50
It's nice they modeled battle damage versions of the ships.
I love seeing this behind the scenes stuff.
Not dunking on CG, I've nod CG work and its hard and painfully long. But there is something really nice about old movies with the models and the puppetry, it was visually exiting to see how they create the illusion of realism with whatever materials they had at hand.
Shut the frick up you whiny homosexual.
I am pretty sure it was by design to show how expendable and worthless soldiers of le totalitarian le undemocratic le fascist regime are, in opposition to humanity valuing its fighters and decking them out in all sorts of high tech shit in the book.
Yeah if you look in the original screenplay they’re mentioned.
It’s definitely a budget thing.
Goodpoint: A real fascist regime would never admit failure.
To me it feels like satire of American war movies if anything.
It's obviously a parody on the americuck military.
Seethe thirdie
About what? I live better than the average amerilard.
Enjoy getting robbed by nogs and getting shot by cops while a rabid hobo stabs you in the nutsack with his aids infected needle.
>american soldiers are expendable cannon fodder
I'd say that's accurate.
The same director directed Robocop as a satire of america because some people said to him there was meta in the script.
Ended up being the coolest action shit.
In my head he was always tricked by some clever motherfricker to do this kind of movies because he hates america.

Traitors of Mars was fricking garbage and killed off what little momentum ST:Invasion generated for the franchise.
My Christian imageboard!
Milk!
Are there NeoDogs in the game?

Pic related, loved this thing even though it did cause some minor teamwipe incidents on occasion
This one.
PS. Lasers are gay and easy mode against bugs.
The Explosion plama pisoland the Flamer
The ol reliable. Saved me a lot in cyborg snow missions.
I think I always ran the laser shotgun or something, since it did alright enough dps and could be fired infinitely. It was great for nabbing patrol units on the edges of the screen before they were visible

I also build the base as chaotic and moronic as possible to trigger all the perfect base builder homosexuals.

Some chad nerd tore down your moronic buildings and not only did you take it like a b***h, you invented this revenge fantasy too?
sad, m8.
which one of the games are you guys talking about?
The only multiplayer one you moron.
It's stupid how there isn't even a separate voice channel for it
Its a lot to expect a lobby of that many people able to function perfectly, even with mics.
>people ignoring gas because they just want to build a fricking hedge maze for an hour
>Helldivers 2
You lying bitc-
>its real
GET YOUR CUPS BOYS ITS TIME FOR LIBER-TEA
Only excited for Helldivers 2 now that I literally found out about it from your post.
Helldivers 1 was the true GOTY coop game for the first couple of years after it came out on PC, they had fricking BALLS to make friendly fire ACTUALLY HURT and be a key part of the gameplay..
>no money to buy the game
>game will be dead by the time i manage to have enough money without sacrifice money to pay the bills
i hate being poor
>enough money to buy the game
>no time or energy to play multiplayer shit
>just want to get lost in comfy low effort stuff for hours on end
Being old is suffering
The game is "comfy" and by that I mean literally braindead easy. I play with a controller and I don't even need to aim. I just point my gun in a general direction and I always kill some bugs.
>game is not worth its current price tag
>loses 2/3rd of its playerbase by the time it goes on sale
Every fricking time
In the new game are you still some cannon fodder with a machinegun or do you get the actual mobile infantry armor?
What are they shooting at?

Extermination is gonna die fast as frick unless the devs get to new content fast.
>Extermination is gonna die fast as frick unless the devs get to new content fast.
Yeah there is no way it'll be able to hold those 10k players unless they push out new content fast.
Infested Planet is the real Starship Troopers game.
Mandatory military service, especially to get societal perks that not even richgays can buy their way into, is unironically a great system. Don't give a frick what Verhoover thinks.
>societal perks
I thought American vets are all poorgay hobos with PTSD who got fricked in the ass by the government.
Talking about Starship Troopers, not Murrica.
its not mandatory. most of the people are non-citizen civilians.
>Space Marine II: Tyranid Eclipse
Bug hunters, we are eating good.
If you like strategy games I would highly recommend Shadow Empire.
>join extermination game
>everyone is really getting into it, howling in terror when a bug gets then and shouting BUUUGS! when a swarm approaches
It's barebones, but the people you play with make it so very worth it.
Man I wish Alien Swarm had gotten more support.
You tried Alien Swarm reactive drop?
for me is the OG armor

>book proposes a system that is close to athenian democracy where every voting-age male had served in the military (all the philosophers like Sokrates had served, iirc)
>numale gays scream FASCISM and make a parody/satire of the book and only end up depicting it's society as ten times greater than what we have now
the fricking irony.
>get drafted to die in a pointless war against insects because the leadership's number one principle is that your civilization always has to be fighting something
>TEN TIMES BETTER MUH MILITARIZED SOCIETY
Why don't you go to Ukraine and fight there, clearly you are of the superior stock and you will fare well there. Then you can build your epic utopia once you liberate the country.
No one gets drafted to do anything in the Federation. It’s all voluntary, even when the federation lost damn near all its officer corps they still didn’t institute a draft to make up the difference.
Try again.
They fight it exactly like they fought it in the book - throwing troops into the meatgrinder sustaining grievous casualties, lmao.
>some men need to sacrifice their lives to have a greater society
So why won't you become the sacrifice?
If I can make society greater by removing homosexuals like you from the genepool, I gladly will.
You won't even remove the shitstains from your behind, let alone anyone else from existence, kek.
Now That's What I Call Disingenuous!
"But even supposing that..."
That was the period of time where everyone had their finger hovering over the nuke button waiting to see who would nuke who first after all
Here's a book that is both better and would make for a better videogame.
>guy reads SST
>gets upset there's not enough fight scenes
>writes his own book
kinda based
what book?
Armour you fricking spazz.
>Armor
>Better than Starship Troopers
Maybe if you ignore the snoozefest subplot that somehow takes up most of the book.
>you can get xp from using your own ammo dispensers
I parked my ass in the HQ and placed dispensers for the whole AAS game. In only 20 minutes, I had over 10,000 xp. My team was flabbergasted when our squad (just me) had the most points by a huge margin. All the unlocks for Operator and Hunter are mine now. For anyone wondering, the Nuke mine sucks.
>My team was flabbergasted when our squad (just me) had the most points by a huge margin.
As if you could know lmao, nobody looks at this score
622 is lot though
>nuke mine sucks ass
Mini nuke launcher is coming. Trust the plan.
Nukes are a necessary evil.
How does a military capable of interstellar travel lose to bugs who need to be in CQC range to do any damage (aside from the ranged bugs who don't make up the bulk of the bugs)? The only answer I can think off is they want the soldiers to die hence why they send them in to the meatgrinder, but why? It doesn't make any sense.
>lose
Watch the fricking movie moron.
The point is they don't fricking lose, it's all a propaganda sham and they're using the bugs for cheap fuel.
By the end of the movie they depleted their forces so much they have borderline kids fighting in the front lines and the war is still going.
Ok but seriously what is the bugs problem? They clearly aren't just brainless animals acting on pure instinct. Why do they hate humanity?
They're clearly jealous of how awesome we humans are with our citizenship system, technology, and fast food
Are you telling me you think there's some kind of smart bug? Quite frankly I find the idea of a bug that thinks offensive.
Humans are constantly trying to colonize their planets. Of course they're pissed.
Humanity keeps going across the entire galaxy and trying to colonize bug-planets.
Probably why they are so upset.
Its literally because some idiots tried to make a colony on a bug planet, ignoring all the warnings from the federation. the bugs chimped out and then shot a meteor at earth
mormons, they've been pissed off at governments ever since Missouri executive order 44.
3070ti is on sale for like $450 right now
>“Social responsibility above the level of family, or at most of tribe, requires imagination-- devotion, loyalty, all the higher virtues -- which a man must develop himself; if he has them forced down him, he will vomit them out.”
Bug dictatorship? Lol what kind of moronic nonsense is this
>“Every time we killed a thousand Bugs at a cost of one M.I. it was a net victory for the Bugs.
>“The universe will let us know—later—whether or not Man has any “right” to expand through it. In”
REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING AND YOU'LL MAKE IT BACK ALIVE.
>vid
That's the cuckold "game", right?
>Starship Troopers meets Gundam
Damn shame about the VN waifuhomosexualry
you lads like shotguns?
i am so fricking desperate for a shotgun in this. i feel they need to restrict the weapons between the classes a bit better - right now, the only non-SAW worth using is the sniper rifle, and the 2nd pistol utterly mogs the first one.
I'd expect anything that's currently in the files but not usable to be an early content drop, they're probably not going to scrap the shotgun when it actually looks completed compared to some other half assed things. here's the loading screen they have for their shooting range test level. the SAW actually has data for bipod accuracy and reload times, every single gun also has data for prone accuracy which I assume was scrapped.
where are these leaks posted?
it's an unreal engine game anon, the AES key has been posted online and you can use fmodel or umodel to browse the files. these are my leaks that I only posted yesterday in /coopg/ because that's the only thread slightly related to this game that was up. here's the WIP gas truck in umodel that fmodel only loads as invisible.
Oh okay I wasn't aware this was possible, anything else cool or interesting fren?
>fren
sorry, i don't talk to chuds.
not really, bombadier bugs from the third movie which are modeled and have their data files ready which I assume are coming with horde mode
there's no underbarrels at all unless you want to count the SAW's bipod. there's a reflex sight, a suppressor, and a couple scopes as the attachments in the files.
There's a STE thread on /vm/ too
I always forget the new boards exist
The SAW sucks balls, can't hit anything except up close, and 1/2 the ammo of the rifles.
The Morita should have access to an underslung shotgun but it doesn't for some reason.
None of the ingame models feature a shotgun, not sure if the loading-screen assets are actually game assets.
>“we are even developing an exact ethic for extra-human relations.”
So we will get tanker and hoppers in the first update maybe or the scorpion one
you will get the bombardiers that are actually completed. tankers only exist as the dead ones in terrain and hoppers don't exist period in the files.
Any new guns?
posted the shotgun further up and their loading screen for a shooting range which has attachments
Did they buff hard mode or nerf the sniper rifle? It takes 5 shots to kill one warrior and I'm pretty sure it used to take 4
>no power armor in any of these
What a failure of a franchise.
>that trooper-veteran jump
I was not prepared for this.
frick the combat, i want a game about the totalitarian state of heinleins source material. really leaning into the Civilian vs. Citizen angle. same thing i want from any warhammer game. not some stupid "hurr shooting monsters is fun xD" game but one that is all about the society and culture of a world like that.
you want a book
i have read heinleins book and it's just fricking boring. he was great at fleshing out the lore and societal structures but he couldn't write interesting characters or a gripping story to save his life.
now think of what you want from a game design perspective. the gameplay is going to be gay as shit "le resistance" like we happy few instead of daily life within that societal structure.
