Not really. There's a lot of dumb shit in the original that I just accept. You can make an argument that Dragon Ball's last truly great arc was the Saiyan arc, but that's not even halfway into the whole story. Dragon Ball primarily exists as entertainment and retcons have existed since extremely early on since Toriyama almost never plans in advance.

No, it's based on an interview where Toriyama complained that he had always been dissatisfied with the way that the anime portrayed Goku, saying that they "didn't capture the poison" in him and made him too much of a goody-two-shoes. You can see Goku becoming more selfish and careless as the manga progresses likely because Toriyama overcorrected in reaction to the anime to the point he endangers innocent people. Super really picked up on his battle obsession and then tried to focus on the "poison" aspect with the Universe Survival arc, leading to a character who's constantly looking for his fix in battle. This is modern Goku. /dbs/ just takes everything to its most absurd conclusion and turned Goku into a cheerful, violent psychopath with no sense of humanity.

I seriously think Jiren and even Hit to some degree was designed exclusively for the weird Latino communities that would love that shit. Hit is literally a character you would see on Mugen doing like 100 hit "combos" without giving the other character a chance to attack. Like seriously think about it. It is almost outright racist how much those two characters play into the fricking "OC" stereotype you see within those communities.
At least Hit is a somewhat interesting character and has a different dynamic than usual with the main cast, which isn't something you can say about JireNPC. Still, I'll admit Hit feels like a character with Jojo powers inserted in Dragon Ball.

I dont consider fanfiction because its known that akira's intention was to make gohan the goku's successor as earth's protector, and the Cell saga closure was perfect for the series, goku is dead and gohan is the strongest warrior in the universe, a true warrior. If the series ended there it would be perfect.
Its confirmed that akira intended to make gohan the main character and the strongest Z warrior and goku to stay dead, but goku's popularity was so big in japan that his editor forced him to bring him back.
Akira's intention was very clear since the beginning of Z series though. All the the "gohan's potention" stuff was a clear sign he was intending to make him the most powerful warrior since radditz arc.
Except Toriyama says himself he accidentally wrote Gohan in a way that didn’t work for his preferred style of protagonist which is why he brought Goku back. The editors only impact on Buu was making Goten.
That is not the case. Toriyama himself decided against using Gohan as the main character because he just didn't feel right. It took 5 chapters to reintroduce Goku into the story. The previous popularity poll put Gohan as the most popular character in the story. Toriyama himself had clearly planned Gohan to take over for a long time, but when he actually got to the point where he had to take the lead, he realized he just didn't work as a character.
And it should be obvious why. Gohan rarely acted, he always reacted. His best arc was his introduction in the Saiyan arc. He had agency on Namek, but he's a non-character for most of the Android arc until the very end. At that point in the story, all the adults are present and he plays more of a supporting role carrying people around and investigating than he does actually leading the story. There were plenty of opportunities to make Gohan a more natural opponent to Cell. The Android arc is one big Terminator reference after all, and Gohan can be seen as John Connor and Trunks as Kyle Reese. But Toriyama failed to capitalize on any of it and just shoved him into the forefront at the end, and then he had no idea how to write him as a compelling protagonist after.

Gohan taking over as protagonist was likely something that Toriyama actually planned long before he was introduced, one of the rare things that he did. The inklings can be seen as early as the Piccolo-daimao arc. He had three things decided about God when he introduced him (created the Dragon Balls, was the Demon King's other half, and that he was originally an alien though that would only be revealed later and hinted at in his conversation with the new Piccolo). And Piccolo Jr.'s birth and Goku sparing him implies that Toriyama wanted him alive for the future, while it's also clear he's a redeemable character. Toriyama really wanted Goku to grow up to the point he threatened to quit if his editor wouldn't let him do it, and he brought Chichi back for the sole reason that he wanted Goku to have a son. And lo and behold, Goku trained beneath God while his son would train beneath his rival, the demon king reborn in a parallel to one another. Gohan defeating Cell with one arm mirrors Goku defeating Piccolo. Going to the homeworld of the creator of the Dragon Balls was also likely planned. But the space of story from partway into Namek to the Cell Games was a big bump in the road that threw things off course, so Gohan becoming sudden protagonist doesn't work in the arc when it finally happens.

His son's name is Sasuke and Toriyama would give him the finished manga manuscripts as scrap paper to draw on when he was really young. The rest he left in a big pile in his garage. Toriyama didn't really care about looking back at what he was done with and only really keeps anything out of obligation. That's the same mindset he has when it comes to his characters like Yamcha and Tenshinhan who basically lost all relevance and became the peanut gallery that exist to gawk and get beaten up. He also didn't care about Dragon Ball that much until 2008/2009 when Evolution came out and he was so pissed off by it that he actually did want to get involved again. I don't think he really cared whether his son was into manga or not. Toriyama was really burned out with drawing by 1995 and only really cared about car models and movies.

I know the original Dragon ball was comfy and DBZ pioneered a lot of Shonen but besides that the art looks poor at best compared to any manga from any other genre, the themes are either just surface level or non existent, the characters are all room temperature IQ and every arc feels like its just repeating indefinitely. Even the Power leveling seems just useless now as its just a 'my character has a higher number than your character' game.

Even to this day, no matter how bad rainbow hair colors get, none of these characters ever got these powerups for granted, they all had to train or band together to earn them, whereas every other shonen is just "actually you're the chosen ultra mega jesus one and was always going to be good and undefeated and nobody can ever come up against your pinky toe!", this leaves an air of effort you can appreciate and look to as an inspiration to better yourself instead of something you were never going to achieve because that's only for the ultra super special one.
Unironically would be great if supers next storyline was Zeno finding Ganker and deciding to force the fighters of the multiverse to perform wrestling for him. (He deletes anyone who tells him wrestling is fake)
Hey anon, have you ever played From Dust published by Ubisoft? It's a rather strange game but i enjoyed it. It came out around 2011, it involves you creating a safe enviorment for tribes of humans and you have to combat tsunami's and volcanic eurptions using the power of Sand, Water, Magma and freezing time. However you can use those elements against the tribes too, one of my favourite things to do was to try and flood the enviorment so all those funny little tribesmen drown i thought it was hilarious but i havent played it since 2015 but i recomend it. I don't think Super is as bad as people make it out to be. Or rather, I think people hold Z in too high regard in comparison to Super. Super is pretty lackluster but Z isn't exactly a gripping tale either, I don't really feel like the gulf in quality between the two is all that wide.
If they introduce a character above Zen-Oh that'll be the end of it I think. His whole gimmick is being so supremely powerful that nothing could ever challenge him for any reason, if you scale above that then it's all pointless.
The only character I could accept surpassing Zen-o is if they brought in Toribot as being above him. And the only character I can see surpassing Toribot are Toriyama's editors (particularly Torishima).
Not really. There's a lot of dumb shit in the original that I just accept. You can make an argument that Dragon Ball's last truly great arc was the Saiyan arc, but that's not even halfway into the whole story. Dragon Ball primarily exists as entertainment and retcons have existed since extremely early on since Toriyama almost never plans in advance.

2022 - Super Hero (movie): The Red Ribbon Army returns and Piccolo is on the case. Knowing he needs to catch up, he has Dende upgrade the Dragon Balls so that Shenlong can unlock all his potential. Shenlong throws in a little bonus while he's at it, and Piccolo becomes "Orange Piccolo". Gohan, to save his daughter, pushes his Ultimate state even further to become "Son Gohan Beast" (huge white/gray spiky hair with red irises).

It started in the japanese side. They had a very old meme about Goku being evil. It got to the english side somehow and now they're perpetuating it
No, it's based on an interview where Toriyama complained that he had always been dissatisfied with the way that the anime portrayed Goku, saying that they "didn't capture the poison" in him and made him too much of a goody-two-shoes. You can see Goku becoming more selfish and careless as the manga progresses likely because Toriyama overcorrected in reaction to the anime to the point he endangers innocent people. Super really picked up on his battle obsession and then tried to focus on the "poison" aspect with the Universe Survival arc, leading to a character who's constantly looking for his fix in battle. This is modern Goku. /dbs/ just takes everything to its most absurd conclusion and turned Goku into a cheerful, violent psychopath with no sense of humanity.

Hit is literally a character you would see on Mugen doing like 100 hit "combos" without giving the other character a chance to attack. Like seriously think about it. It is almost outright racist how much those two characters play into the fricking "OC" stereotype you see within those communities.
At least Hit is a somewhat interesting character and has a different dynamic than usual with the main cast, which isn't something you can say about JireNPC. Still, I'll admit Hit feels like a character with Jojo powers inserted in Dragon Ball.

Except Toriyama says himself he accidentally wrote Gohan in a way that didn’t work for his preferred style of protagonist which is why he brought Goku back. The editors only impact on Buu was making Goten.
That is not the case. Toriyama himself decided against using Gohan as the main character because he just didn't feel right. It took 5 chapters to reintroduce Goku into the story. The previous popularity poll put Gohan as the most popular character in the story. Toriyama himself had clearly planned Gohan to take over for a long time, but when he actually got to the point where he had to take the lead, he realized he just didn't work as a character.
And it should be obvious why. Gohan rarely acted, he always reacted. His best arc was his introduction in the Saiyan arc. He had agency on Namek, but he's a non-character for most of the Android arc until the very end. At that point in the story, all the adults are present and he plays more of a supporting role carrying people around and investigating than he does actually leading the story. There were plenty of opportunities to make Gohan a more natural opponent to Cell. The Android arc is one big Terminator reference after all, and Gohan can be seen as John Connor and Trunks as Kyle Reese. But Toriyama failed to capitalize on any of it and just shoved him into the forefront at the end, and then he had no idea how to write him as a compelling protagonist after.
I will forever be disappointed about the 8 year timeskip. Teen Gohan and Future Trunks should've had an arc together as a protagonist duo.

Gohan taking over as protagonist was likely something that Toriyama actually planned long before he was introduced, one of the rare things that he did. The inklings can be seen as early as the Piccolo-daimao arc. He gives three hints towards Goku's origins (oozaru when drinking the Super God Water, Goku retorting to an incredulous Piccolo that he may not even be human since he has a tail, and the oozaru in Goku's final strike). He had three things decided about God when he introduced him (created the Dragon Balls, was the Demon King's other half, and that he was originally an alien though that would only be revealed later and hinted at in his conversation with the new Piccolo). And Piccolo Jr.'s birth and Goku sparing him implies that Toriyama wanted him alive for the future, while it's also clear he's a redeemable character. Toriyama really wanted Goku to grow up to the point he threatened to quit if his editor wouldn't let him do it, and he brought Chichi back for the sole reason that he wanted Goku to have a son. And lo and behold, Goku trained beneath God while his son would train beneath his rival, the demon king reborn in a parallel to one another. Gohan defeating Cell with one arm mirrors Goku defeating Piccolo. Going to the homeworld of the creator of the Dragon Balls was also likely planned. But the space of story from partway into Namek to the Cell Games was a big bump in the road that threw things off course, so Gohan becoming sudden protagonist doesn't work in the arc when it finally happens.
I got curious, and it turns out toriyama has a son, but i don't think he went into manga like his father. What are the chances this outside influence had an internal impact on the course of DBZs story?
His son's name is Sasuke and Toriyama would give him the finished manga manuscripts as scrap paper to draw on when he was really young. The rest he left in a big pile in his garage. Toriyama didn't really care about looking back at what he was done with and only really keeps anything out of obligation. That's the same mindset he has when it comes to his characters like Yamcha and Tenshinhan who basically lost all relevance and became the peanut gallery that exist to gawk and get beaten up. He also didn't care about Dragon Ball that much until 2008/2009 when Evolution came out and he was so pissed off by it that he actually did want to get involved again. I don't think he really cared whether his son was into manga or not. Toriyama was really burned out with drawing by 1995 and only really cared about car models and movies.

Can some one please spoonfeed me on why people genuinely like Dragon ball so much?
I know the original Dragon ball was comfy and DBZ pioneered a lot of Shonen but besides that the art looks poor at best compared to any manga from any other genre, the themes are either just surface level or non existent, the characters are all room temperature IQ and every arc feels like its just repeating indefinitely. Even the Power leveling seems just useless now as its just a 'my character has a higher number than your character' game.
I know its easy to say that its just latin america carrying the series but surely there is more to it.

When it DID turn to that it became a legit wrestling story, and you know how popular wrestling is.
Even to this day, no matter how bad rainbow hair colors get, none of these characters ever got these powerups for granted, they all had to train or band together to earn them, whereas every other shonen is just "actually you're the chosen ultra mega jesus one and was always going to be good and undefeated and nobody can ever come up against your pinky toe!", this leaves an air of effort you can appreciate and look to as an inspiration to better yourself instead of something you were never going to achieve because that's only for the ultra super special one.
Unironically would be great if supers next storyline was Zeno finding Ganker and deciding to force the fighters of the multiverse to perform wrestling for him. (He deletes anyone who tells him wrestling is fake)

Hey anon, have you ever played From Dust published by Ubisoft? It's a rather strange game but i enjoyed it. It came out around 2011, it involves you creating a safe enviorment for tribes of humans and you have to combat tsunami's and volcanic eurptions using the power of Sand, Water, Magma and freezing time. However you can use those elements against the tribes too, one of my favourite things to do was to try and flood the enviorment so all those funny little tribesmen drown i thought it was hilarious but i havent played it since 2015 but i recomend it.
