Concept art of Elder’s Recess showed that they were planning on having Uroktors there which meant Agnaktor was probably planned for the game, but when they had issues with Lagiacrus they seemingly scrapped Leviathans entirely and replaced them with Piscine Wyverns. IIRC they even said that some of the behaviours they programmed for Lagiacrus were recycled for Jyuratodus and Lavasioth, so Lavasioth having Agnaktor’s armour gimmick (but worse) is definitely not coincidental.

Switch Axe is an easy weapon to get good at. Always have Rapid Morph; it's the highest priority skill for SA and it's not very hard to get. Your combo for monster downs/big openings is ZR -> A -> ZR -> ZR. Use 2-stage to get back sword gauge and amp your sword fast, or use the counter to amp it immediately (a good practice is to use it during a monster's opening roar). Use Axe mode/morph attacks to get around; Sword to Axe covers a lot of ground. Consider at least Evade Extender 1--I prefer 2. ZSD for roars and/or moments when the monster is going to be moving. You can't get knocked off, but you will take damage, so beware.
SA isn't very high commitment, so get in there, do your damage, and then morph out of danger. Sword can morph backwards after any attack by holding back + ZR, and Axe can fade slash with back + A.

I've been wanting to use that Lunagaron axe because it looks so fricking slick, but it's got dogshit sharpness. As for the phials, which type of phial is the best all-purpose thing? I used the Switch Axe a lot in GenU, but it feels different in Rise.
All purpose would be Power, but SA benefits from elemental a lot, so the Element Phials are real power houses. If you want a good all-rounder to test shit out on, Daora's and Teo's are good choices, but so is Daimyo's or Rathalos. Those all benefit from being able to use Phial Switch Boost, which is a fantastic rampage gem for SA.
Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask what the "special skills" it gives you are. I noticed that Phial Switch gem is level 3, so it must do something good.
It makes you recover more gauge when during sword morph attacks (into axe), and adds phial effects to every axe morph attack, and I believe it makes it easier to amp the sword too. Basically it just makes maintaining the gauge easier, and since amped phial attacks are such a huge part of your damage, it's super important to keep your sword amped as much as possible. Power Prolonger is a good idea for Power phials for that reason as well.

I VERY commonly see my Palamute proc blast in solo hunts. A solid 200 damage every few seconds is nothing to scoff at. Hunters can pull it off better by virtue of the blast skills and Teostra's skill and weapons.
Is Teaostra weapon generally better than Magnamalo?
I honestly don't know, I just use the Teostra weapons for the looks and the all-round stats.

I'm tired of hating on longsword. Its a fun weapon with a high skill ceiling and a low skill floor.
LS has literally no ceiling anymore, if you're ever in a modicum of danger you can just throw out foresight slash and ignore everything the monster does
There's no incentive to find openings for the full spirit combo anymore because you can skip almost every part in some way, and there's no longer any reason to STAY at red instead of spending it on spirshit helmbreaker
Rise fricked it even moreso by doubling down on the bullshit
5th gen fricked the weapon beyond repair, it's a shell of itself now

You're overselling foresight slash, especially in Sunbreak's MR. But yes, for the most part the LS has been fricked from a design point of view. I've really enjoyed the weapon in Gen 5, but there's no denying the philosophy of the weapon and the basic moveset have been screwy since they decided to move the weapon from being a Build and Buff to a Build and Spend weapon.
Maybe try using harvest moon before claiming it's strong. It has almost no place in a hunt outside speedrun grinds.

Monsters pulling follow ups out their asses made me switch to foresight the first hit then cancel into iai stance to counter the follow up, it sending me a mile away usually make me safe from the third one.
to be fair monster hunter as a whole is drastically different now, but current LS feels like another weapon.

Mark the monster to have your kinsect attack it and shit out dust clouds.
When you activate Powder Explosion, all dust clouds in a certain radius will be pulled in towards your kinsect and then explode. The more clouds there are, the bigger the explosion damage.
As you can imagine, it's best in single player since more hunters just mean more people to pop your clouds preemptively.

Unless you're playing with multiple IGs using powder kinsects because the powder vortex does not differentiate whose powder is whose, so you can just make massive amounts of dustclouds together and periodically blow them up for thousands of damage

hub quests are scaled for solo now and you just shit through it
special village quests even let you skip hub low rank entirely
People will still be playing even into next year because of the title updates. It also doesn't take that long to get to G rank since you don't even have to finish all of the hub story, you just have to beat Narwa the first time and they'll give you the armor and weapon that carries you through low and high rank so you won't waste time on gear grind.

Charged slash combo or surge slash combo? Or should I be switching between them all the time during fights? Also should I be using backslide at all, it just seems useless compared to just rolling or tackling.
In terms of pure damage, Charged Slash is the best option since GS's entire playstyle revolves around getting Strongarm Counters off. As such, there's no reason to switch between the two mid-hunt unless you're finding it absolutely impossible to land any counters.
I still use Surge Slash in multiplayer since getting consistent counters there is a huge pain.

Reminder that both Espinas’ Subspecies and Rare Species will be coming in title update 2. Their gimmick is that they have a bond mechanic after all, and Espinas Subspecies was datamined already so Espinas Rare Species is undoubtedly coming too.

Their movesets were all incredibly similar, so they should give brown penis all the attacks that various HC penises had to differentiate him and then give white penis all of Zenith penis’ attacks to differentiate him. Rare species are almost always fought in arenas or a single zone so whitest penis having wacky bullshit like a Zenith moveset wouldn’t be too out of place.

While you need MR100 to unlock, you only need MR10 to hunt Scornamalo. Finding someone to host it for you would probably be quicker than grinding MR.
I switch between narwa and espionage, using the saggy set. on the off chance the monster is t weak to either I use my un-upgraded ice weapon from the new one... hunted that b***h too many times and zero mantles. anyway elemental sns is the breasts.

Layered weapons were added to Iceborne in the Fatalis update (ie the final major update) iirc, so I wouldn’t expect layered weapons in Sunbreak until next year unfortunately. If they follow Iceborne’s example on the layered armour front then we should get waves of MR layered armour added with each update at the very least.
At least they made it so you can get layered armor right at the start instead of hiding it in the guiding lands, or worse, being a moronic exclusive event content where its next to impossible to finish until 20 run laters through luck and not having teammate dying in the first room. Booster level 3 is nice for the 12 attack. Normally it would go in the level 4 place but Bird Caller is too comfy to give up and you make up the 3 attack difference with doubled red birds anyway
For the level 1 skill I usually use Moxie, since the higher levels are pretty useless since you're going to want to be healing after it procs anyway. It's mostly just there for peace of mind and give you a reminder when you really need to heal. It doesn't always activate with level 1, but I find that it procs often enough

Part of the reason Frontier’s dev COG (Capcom Online Games) were shut down in 2019 was because, besides not making money anymore and also fricking up Deep Down (they were the devs on that) they had no interest in making their games available outside Japan because they thought it would be too hard for some reason. Meanwhile the rest of the company were fine doing global releases and Capcom as a whole were moving towards global releases and away from regional exclusive releases, and World being their bestselling game ever proved to them that that approach works and COG refused to adapt and thus they died. So there’s no one to remake Frontier even if they wanted to. Silkbind spinning bludgeon is also alright and is good for getting a quick wyvern ride. Dash breaker is trash.
Keeping sway has some great mobility and can be used to position Brutal big bangs. IC for general KOs or topples, if no wirebugs then big bang combo to the head as its now since been buffed and serves somewhat of a purpose.
Hammer is still on the lower end of kill times, but for casual play that isnt IC spam its in a much better position due to its MV buffs

Ibushi Pure is objectively the best set in the game. You get more abilities than everything and if you use the narwa soul gem you get 20% free crit on top of that. To add to the fact, you can gem in anything you might want for extra damage. You are locked to the final bosses weapons however in most cases.
I use mixed pieces so I don't have wasted skills, losing power prolonger and evasion isn't worth 10% extra crit.

The demo for base Rise had datamined materials for Akantor and Ukanlos as well as Jhen Mohran and all the monsters added via updates, but in the final release Akantor, Ukanlos and Jhen Mohran mats were scrubbed entirely while the other update monsters’ mats remained. So they could resurrect them for Sunbreak’s updates, but is a different director and team who works on the G Rank games than the base games so their vision for what endgame monsters would be appropriate is probably a lot different. Not to mention that the roadmap for the first three Sunbreak updates implies that only subs/rares/variants are being added. They could surprise us with Akantor and Ukanlos but I wouldn’t hold my breath on it.

They're better now that they actually have slots and you can slap Narwa Soul in anything with a big enough Rampage slot
