I didn't mention 3D World though
I only said that the level design only really makes challenging platforming sections considering Mario's toolkit in this game for less than a quarter of it
It does have the better bosses out of the 3D games but that's not exactly a high bar to clear
It's a really good game that was marred by the circumstances of its release. It was delayed, the Wii U was a failure, 64/Sunshine nostalgia-homosexualry was at an all time high, and there was an overload of generic Mario games because of NSMB.
In just the 7 years preceding SM3DW, we got: >NSMB >SMG >MP8 >NSMBWii >SMG2 >SM3DL >MP9 >NSMB2 >PM: Sticker Star >NSMBU >New Super Luigi U
The Mario oversaturation ended up leading to people being sick of "Generic Mario".
It's insane just how badly Nintendo started sleeping on Odyssey immediately after its release despite it selling and reviewing so well. No sequel, no actual DLC, almost nothing original from Odyssey appearing in later Mario spinoffs et al, it's bizarre.
Everyone who played the game on release loved it. But remember, only 13 million Wii U units were ever sold. Hardly anyone played SM3DW until it came out on the Switch. That's why its image has been rehabilitated - people actually played the game and realized it was better than Odyssey
In the next 10 years, gen Alpha kids will come to this board and say it's the best 3D Mario game ever made just because it's the first 3D Mario game they've played.
How will you respond to them without sounding mad?
I'm sure they will trash Mario 64 in their threads and say it's not a masterpiece. They'll also complain about Sunshine, saying the game is way too hard.
it's actually impressive that you didn't place even a single game correctly by accident.

The idea of a new 2D Mario isn't inherently bad, but Wonder is undeniably cut heavily from NSMB's cloth and that disappointed me greatly. And there's a bit of actual anger mixed in after the GDC video came out and showed that we could've actually had characters styled after Kotabe's old Mario artwork, only for Nintendo to ditch it for some ungodly reason.
Wonder was amazing. I didn't even think I would pick up the game, buy I got it as a present from my girlfriend on release and had a blast. Playing with the ghosts online was super fun. The challenges were great, the levels were definitely way more unique than anything in the SMB series, and it felt like a real Super Mario World 2 (not that I have anything against Yoshi's Island, I actually adore that game).
SM3DW was better. Collect-a-thons are inherently bad.

Kys homosexual. You homosexuals hated 3d world 10 years ago because it was too safe and wasn't galaxy.
No way gay. I loved Galaxy, Galaxy 2, and SM3DW.

What is it with the sudden love for this game? I remember everyone being disappointed/underwhelmed when it released.

Contrarianism.

I do love the movement in that game but sadly only 15% of the game really takes advantage of it
That would be Sunshine, Odyssey is definitely tied for second with Galaxy though
>Galaxy
Post was good until you said this. Galaxy is shit, it's the 2nd worst 3D Mario after 3D Land.
odyssey is too easy
Terrible taste, OP.

That's not something worth being upset over even in the least bit

Getting angry at scenarios made up in your head is unhealthy
The oldest Gen Alpha kids were born in 2014, so they're already 10 years old. I give it 3 years before they start posting here.
I'd probably celebrate their arrival since their opinion is significantly less shit than the zoomers who think Galaxy is good.

You have the most wretched taste I've seen. It's so bad that one might confuse you for a Snoy.
sorry little bro, i'm just not as easily entertained by orchestral soundtracks and obstacle courses floating in space with shit movement like you are.
*3rd best

Yes. But I really do wish there were fewer moons but with more dedicated challenges built around them. They're almost coin tier.
