How do I get the belome clone journal entries? I killed him in like 2 hits because this game is 10x easier than the SNES version. Isn't the postgame rematch with different stronger clones? Am I SOL? The dude that sells you psychopaths won't sell me them because I haven't even seen the clones.
After you finish the game all enemies entrys of past battles will be added to your journal (even the ones you didn't see, like a bellome clone), but the Thougt Peek info will not be added.
If you want to complete it, in Booster Pass there is a hidden npc that fills the Thought Peek info for 3 frog coins each.

Now that your have your shitty nuMario woops and yelps sorted, could you leave the rest of us to play games in peace?
Enemies are the same. But your inventory is much more lenient, you use all five party members instead of just three, triple moves, being able to block any single target attack, buffs from getting constant timed hits. Basically, you get a lot more options, but they didn't change enemy strength to accommodate for those changes.
Mario RPG with new graphics and cutscenes, an enemy log to complete, fast travel for quicker backtracking, some post game boss rematches with new items as rewards plus harder encounters with random enemies that give rewards like frog coins, and an updated battle system featuring stackable buffs for consecutive timed hits, timed hit alert icon that disappear once you get good at the move, party specific triple attacks, and swapping out party member mid battle. This makes the game a little bit easier overall but the original wasn’t difficult anyway so it’s a fun play through, worth it if you’re a big fan of the game and want to play it with a new coat of paint a few neat features or if you’ve never played the original and want to give it a try.
Nice, sounds like just what I was looking for. I think people don't realize just how tough it is to try to please everyone with these remakes. Tinker too much or too little and everyone loses their minds
I honestly think they nailed it, the only complaint so far is that it's easier but I'm pretty positive they'll add a hard mode down the line in an update.
Just hit him to break his concentration, he did attack with his train tho and then my other two characters jumped in, finishing the fight in just one turn lol. As for Punchinello you just gotta perfect block everything, also hit the bombs so they turn at him.
Punchinello is a skill issue.
Equip status blockers so he can't fear you with Sand Storm. In order to get the bombs to turn around, you need to perfect timed your normal attacks.
Likewise to not die, you need to perfect block any bombs that come at you and 'nello's skewer attack since it does 300+ damage unblocked.
Mallow wrecks Booster since Sniffits are weak to Ice. No matter what Booster will hit you with his train but it's not game over if you have to party members in the back.
I think Johnny is the hardest rematch since you cannot afford to fail a perfect block more than a few times. I used lazy shell armor Mario once but after Johnny uses Valor Up Mario was doing 1 damage. The hit to attack was too much.
Far as I heard, beating Smithy opens up all bestiary entries you've not unlocked so far. After that, you can go to Booster Pass and speak to a guy there to get the Thought Peek entries you missed out on for frog coins.
Im enjoying the remake a lot but man i really really wish they put in some sort of hard mode. Im even gimping myself by using mallow instead of peach but it doesnt matter when things die in 1 basic attack. And lmao at the people saying the perfect hit splash dmg wouldnt happen often or matter before the game leaked
>post yfw they lock a hard mode behind a Geno amiibo
I'm actually hoping for an update to add a hard mode or something, I made the game way easier on me by getting the attack scarf as soon as I got to Monstro Town.
Mostly the same.
Hidden Frog Coin in the castle can be gotten later cause Toads are added near there.
You get another Feather from the Miner who sells the Frying Pan.
All enemy thoughts for Mallow can be gotten after beating the game with Frog Coins.
I literally don't know what the Booster fight was supposed to be, I just spammed my strongest attacks and constantly interrupted him until I quickly won. He didn't get to do anything at all.
I’m getting so fricking pissed hearing about how they made this easy game even easier. Catering to fricking baby morons when the actual Mario Rpg fans are grown af now. For those who played how easy are we talking? Any struggle whatsoever on yardidovich, axem rangers, smithy? I don’t care about the postgame, if the main game has ZERO challenge at all I might skip this game no joke.
No struggle at all if you know what you're doing. Only thing they really made harder is the cliff climb since they reduced the goal to 11 seconds and Mario falls off of edges easier in this.
They still hit hard as hell at least, main issue is really that you have to gimp yourself more. Having the entire party available and the ability to switch them in is nice, but it also removes any sort of challenge because if you use a non-healer team like Mario, Geno, Bowser and you die? Mallow and Peach get swapped in, it's not game over, and that party can just full heal and full revive everyone with their triple move. You probably have to do a low level run for some challenge.
More on the difficulty standpoint, if you don’t use triple moves can this game be remotely challenging at all? Like someone give me some hope here why do I want to play an Rpg if it’s not difficult at all. For example, People always say yardidovich was a difficultly spike the in original, is that the case at all remotely here or can you kick his ass now without thinking twice? I need to know this one question and I’m making my descision to buy it off of that, so be honest.
Well I heard enough, frick this game. If it has zero challenge at all what’s the point? I’ll play the original. Leave it to Nintendo to frick up one of the best games of all time just so 4 year old Timmy can have some fun playing when he’ll just drop it after an hour. Nintendo doesn’t give a frick about the fans, If they do paper Mario TTYD this dirty I’m done
I get the original game isn’t hard, but it FELT hard sometimes, getting downed multiple times by bosses like axem rangers or yardidovich on a first play through, do you even get downed a decent amount in the main story? Not talking complete game overs. And wtf were they thinking with the AOE shit, it doesn’t even make sense
Anon the original game was literally made for 4 year Olds. The only way you could possibly think it was remotely challenging is if you played it as a kid. Peach literally makes it impossible to get a game over. You get armor that negates all damage like halfway through the game. The only way to make the game challenging is to impose restrictions on yourself.
did you never aimlessly walk around and find cool shit

I do, but most people tend not to stick around and look all over the place when they know where to head to next, especially considering Shy Away isn't very obvious (+ the fact that you're about 5.7/7 ways into the game at that point).
Maybe don't use items? I plan on doing a no item run since I feel items always break RPGs by letting you cheese through everything as long as you stocked up on powerful items. You can heal through the special moves and the triple move. Though there's no FP recovery besides items, and doing only basic attacks could be mundane, so maybe just limit yourself to the weakest syrups.
Whoa, SMRPG is easy? What a stark change from the Druaga-tier original, I am schocked at this difference. No really, I am blown away, I cannot believe it. I was really looking forward to the challenge the original posed to us gamers.
More on the difficulty standpoint, if you don’t use triple moves can this game be remotely challenging at all? The game isn't difficult because it railroads you into having enough level ups to beat everything.
It only gets challenging if you purposely avoid fights and exp stars, then you have to git gud in timed hits to avoid what becomes pretty much OHKOs
Well I heard enough, frick this game. If it has zero challenge at all what’s the point? I’ll play the original. only go for HP when the other 2 are on diminishing returns
as a rule of thumb, add the stats. if HP gives more than the other 2 combined, it means you have a bonus to cash in because you didn't pick HP recently
it usually goes one( e.g: Melee) > the other (e.g: Specials) > (now HP is boosted because you haven't picked it twice, and the other two are on cooldown) third, HP with bonus.
The whole level boosting is Magic every level that comes before a level divisible by 3, Attack every level divisible by 3, and HP for every level after a level divisible by 3. The bonus rotation is very consistent.

it goes without saying you don't need to min-max this easy toddler's rpg to beat it.
However it helps a lot to min-max for Culex 3D fight.
although you can also just beat him at lvl 30 even with suboptimal bonus choices.

I know 3D Culex has an attack that damages everyone for their Max HP -1. HP is therefore not much of a concern to me, especially with Bowser who already reaches 219 HP at base.
Moreover, the Bonus rotation goes (assuming Lv. 1)
Lv. 2: Magic
Lv. 3: Attack
Lv. 4: Hp
Lv. 5: Magic
Lv. 6: Attack
Lv. 7: HP
and keeps that same pattern going for everyone as you gain levels. If someone started at Lv. 5 for example, then the first level up they get would have Attack be the big bonus, then HP, then Magic, then Attack again, then HP again, etc.
Is the remake worth playing as a first time through if I have never played SMRPG on SNES? Or should I just play the original and forget about the remake?
Remake is good to play first if you've played more recent Mario RPGs. Even if you haven't the remake is still good. The OG has its own charm though, so it's up to you but I actually prefer the remake.
SMRPG and FF6 are my two favorite games of all time. I'm ashamed I never realized that's what it was, but just seeing it there makes me feel like a kid again.
Game was retranslated. If I recall correctly, a form of this joke was in the original JPN script, but it was one of those cases where it wouldn't fit in the text box in English, so it was changed.
Do they retranslate all the other peek texts? Most of them in original JP were random pop culture references. For that matter, I wonder if any of them were changed for the JP version, considering many of the references are pretty dated.
the thought peeks are retranslated, and while a lot of them match their japanese version much better, a lot of the direct references are way less obvious
There is a claim it might have been based on an old ad for chocolate-covered chestnuts that had a similar flow with words, but it is less popular. If the Japanese version changes will be interesting to see.
I kinda like it. It didn't seem overpowered until you return to a location at a higher level. And when one enemy is near death just attack the other one for both to go in one hit.

Earth Link to Bad Adder
The Japanese names translate out to Earth-Link and Mercu-Link (Mercury). That was only half translated right in the original, so the new translation goes the other direction but keeps the theming because ????
Magikoopa only ever had the one fight and he was the lead Magikoopa. The heads of Bowsers minions all have names now and his is Wizakoopa for some reason instead of Kamek.
Damn I didn't know there wouldn't be a hard mode. Man, that's fricking disappointing. Tips or recommendations for a cool challenge run or to add some difficulty?
Next time I'm gonna try a level 10 run, so I have an excuse to use all of the mechanics. I'm sure you could go lower but I want to ease myself into it.
i still prefer the originals, FAASSM especially, but they're much better than i expected to be with nintendo shoving those stupid horns and brass into every single game now.
I'd call this game mechanically adequate. There is juuuuust enough to keep you engaged, to make you think about party composition and equips, to keep your reflexes and reactions honed. That was a strength in the original game, too. But the new additions like party supers, and being able to block single-target spells, despite making encounters even easier, fit well with the spirit of the game, keeping with the combination of simplicity and variety that the original game had and adding to it.
Beating the first Culex ASAP (level 14 in my case) was considerably easier than the original with blockable single-target magic spells and having access to the entire cast, but it was still fun and satisfying. It's still basically prerequisite to keep "Party Bracers" (Crystallines) active throughout the fight since they'll like to use nothing but unblockable, multi-target magic spells in the same turn, usually Fire Wall > Boulder >Meteor Rain. Makes it beneficial to start out with a sub-optimal party member like Mallow to get some good AoE damage in before swapping him out when he's downed.
Speaking of that, I think they nerfed the Safety Ring. It used to completely block a lot of element attacks, but now it just greatly reduces damage taken from them.
I think it's easier but like I said, it fits with the spirit of the original game. The OG did just enough to keep you occupied to make it fulfilling even if it was seldom a challenge (I think some of the fights in the original are understated though, the Mimic fight against the unused final boss concept in Land's End can step on your balls if you're doing a challenge run--still have to fight it in the remake), but the changes add more to keep you occupied even if the net is that the game is easier because of it. I wouldn't call it a detriment or an improvement overall, but "it works" and serves to distinguish it from the original in a noticeable way.
they better not do my homie Booster dirty i swear to fricking god. The whole stretch from end of Booster Tower to Marrymore better still be taking place in the remake
Friendly reminder >Mario
Special Attack (Jump attacks are special attack value, highest single target DPS choice. you also have fire spells available) > Defense = Special Defense > HP > Attack
Pick whatever gives the most stat growths. Mario is good all around. >Mallow
Special Attack > Defense > HP > Special Defense > Attack
Attack is useless. he has innate high special Defense. focus special attack whenever the bonus stat growths are equal. Defense is his weakness. cover it. conisder speed gear for quick sweep on trash. >Geno
Same as Mario. Consider speed to always buff first before others engage on gear. You can also flip S. attack and attack but geno whirl is more dps and geno should do DPS because best party comp is mario/geno/peach and mario shouldn't be the only damage dealer. >Bowser
Attack > special defense > HP = Defense > S. attack
consider speed so he's not slow as frick and he can be useful. unlike mallow who is AoE he is strong single target with attack. innate high HP and defense. Cover Special D, his weakness. >Peach
Prepare her for Lazy shell.
Special Attack > HP = Defense > Special Defense >Attack
pump special attack so she heals and does more damage. most turns are use of specials. she'll have lazy shell and she has innate high Special Defense. Cover her weakness which is Defense. Because of Lazy shell, Defense and special D lose value, so HP goes equal in priority as defense. just go the mario route in level up choices and go for special growth whenever theyre equal.
depends on the diminishing returns.
if there's none, go for the stat priority.
if there's very little, same.
if there's noticeable DR, go for 2nd priority
if they're both DR'd, consider HP.
after this, the DR is reset, go back to 1st priority.
>Tried the Bowser and Mallow triple move for the first time
Jesus christ, this shit tears through Culex. They really wanted you to use Mallow and Bowser.
Remember how Mario and Peach had the Lazy Shell and Frying pan respectively? The rest of the gang get new weapons as well as rewards from the rematches.
Don’t know whether to make fun of you for calling out people buying this game in a thread full of piraters or for being such a poor useless homosexual that the price of video games is something that affects your life.

dumb frick
what's a good level to fight jinx?
I just went in at lvl14 and after the frick powered up I was doing 2 points of damage, and he still had 400hp left lmao
Try on a Spikey since they won't die, won't flinch when jumped on and don't move very much so they're not too distracting. Mario does a very brief crouching animation when he lands on an enemy, that's exactly where you should be pressing the button. I believe the frame window gets reduced at jump 14 but it stays the same till jump 100. It's way easier than it was on snes, just keep practicing and you should be good. Also, I don't know if it helps but I did it on portable to avoid any lag from the tv or the controller. Good luck, if you could do 60 on snes this shouldn't be so hard.
You can examine a spot in Peach's bedroom and it says "found Toadstool's ???". There is a lot of speculation what it is, most say underwear or bra. Some say a giant dildo
yeah because everyone has a really fragile sensitive epeen like you and has to play the same type of game all the time. it may shock you to learn some people like easier games in betwen harder games. not that either one will get you closer to getting laid.
It's not significantly easier, just a bit, but with postgame matches that are harder than anything in the original. It's Paper Mario, difficulty-wise. Fun, relaxing, charming.
Booster is a joke if you have any sort of speed. Punchinello can be a bit annoying on emulator because of input lag. Seriously, I know the inputs have a larger window in the remake, but I'm playing on SNES now and it feels more intuitive despite the smaller window.
Belome is a check if you equipped status protection and remember to bring Mallow since his defense is high and weak to Thunder.
Johnny and Punchinello are skill checks.
Booster and Cake are DPS checks.
Culex actually requires some semblance of strategy if you don't fight him at max level and don't use lazy shell/super suit. If more than two crystals are alive when his count down hits zero he does Meteor which does instant 9999 damage. Also Shredder now dispels Red Essence so don't count on that to get you out of it.
Oh right Final Claw does 9999 damage, but it's single target and can be perfect blocked.
I'm amazed how easy it is to perfect block a lot of attacks. The crystals use single target spells a lot so I ended up never having to heal much. The only attacks I had to worry about was Meteor and Meteor Blast.
I had to go back and check if dark star could be blocked in the OG and we were all just stupid or something
7 months ago
Anonymous
I don't even know how much Dark Star does in the refight because I always perfect block it. It's suppose to be the strongest spell in the original game.
I'd say if you wanted to kill one crystal first, it'd be the Earth one too. Boulder and Water Blast hurt like hell. Fire one is also pretty dangerous if only just for Flare.
I started the postgame quest, Geno told me to go to the frog sage, and he's just telling me Belome is back and I checked both places and he's not there. What do I do?
My 6 year old nephew might like it. He also loves the assist mode in Mario Odyssey. I have no problem with easy modes even in easy games, though this game could really use a more difficult mode
Wasn't there an article recently that warned people to charge their dormant Switches because they just straight up stop working if left alone too long or some shit?
literally just finished it
i said forget the setup and just rushed him with rock candies, fire bombs, and ice bombs
as long as you give whoever isnt mario a trueform pin you're fine really lol
I think it was always an exception in SMRPG at least in Japan that they gave Kamek a different name for that game, don't know why localization didn't pick up on the idea that it's meant to literally be him but yeah this is probably just a one off exception
Ive never actually fought booster before. I just did it for the mallow thought peaks, but now i missed out on amulet. Am I able to get it later in the remake or should I just reload?
The game gives you enough Flowers, Flower Tabs, Flower Jars, and Flower Boxes to max out all five characters if they had their own FP pools. Which is something I wish they had changed for the remake.
Nope, I messed up in that mini game, could've easily gotten like 5 more flowers, I've yet to find a few hidden chests and I have 94 fp's. Mushroom boy in Seaside Town can randomly give you flower tabs for mushrooms anyway.
>want to buy the remake >quickly remember that super mario rpg is a really short game >remake costs 60 fricking dollars >even with the bonus content from the remake and all the optional content from the original it's still a really short game
Alright where the frick do I yarr harr this shit?
So how do I access the post-game stuff? I went to the marrymore inn, then star hill, then Frog sage but all the frog sage is saying is Belome is up to his old tricks again or something
I had to use a red essence here when Booster started working and driving the train in one turn.
How do I get the belome clone journal entries? I killed him in like 2 hits because this game is 10x easier than the SNES version. Isn't the postgame rematch with different stronger clones? Am I SOL? The dude that sells you psychopaths won't sell me them because I haven't even seen the clones.

Do Geno and Mallow have any voice acting or grunts? I know Mario, Bowser, and Peach probably have their regular voices but I'm curious if they gave them anything.
no
Do Mario, Bowser, and Peach have voices or grunts?
Only Bowser and it's in the same places where he makes voice grunts in the original
Bowser does. His limit breaks and the growl he did in the original version when talking has new grunts recorded
No one has any voicing. Which makes some cutscenes weird. Characters flap their lips while subtitles appear at the bottom of the screen.
Thats moronic. I hate this trend with Nintendo so much.
>Plotgay wants to be immersed with bing bing dialogue
I'm sure there's yt vids of hours of Mario noises in succession, just play that.

Isn't it mainly Pokémon that's infamous for that right now? At least nobody sings in these cutscenes unless I'm mistaken.

Super Mario Kart is nuMario?
I'd rather have them be silenced than weird Pokémon-speak.
Here's a tip, when people say nice things about Mario Sunshine, "remember when Bowser and Peach had fully voiced lines?" isn't one of them.
I hate you homosexuals
People wanted voice acting in zelda at one point because it was appropriate for the kind of cutscenes those games have. lol, lmao.
Based as frick. I hate voice acting
I hate voice acted skippable dialogue, but it would've been nice for the FMVs.
Yeah, if there's going to be FMVs then they should probably speak, but nothing that's done in engine.
i thought my emulator was bugging during that
but i'd much prefer them silent over shitty voice acting like in totk

so uh if i wasn't able to get the monster tattles for belome and the clones 1st fight am i fricked?
i know the clones have different tattles in the post game
There's a guy in booster pass that gives you a monster entry for 3 frog coins

Probably the Yoshi race

whats the medal represent?
So how does Culex work? Is the 3D version the refight? Do you need to do all the others first? What music plays on the first fight?
3D Culex is the refight yes. All the other refights need to be done first.
The music for the first Culex fight is the original Culex battle music. The refight remixes all music associated with Culex.
Cool thanks.
So general consensus? Is it just Mario RPG....so good but just full price?
It's just SMRPG, but 10x easier. The script is 99% untouched.
There's a postgame that lets you fight souped up versions of the bosses, though.
only 7 of them

Really, I was hoping for an Axem Ranger rematch.
what makes it so much easier?
did they nerf enemy health or something?
Enemies are the same. But your inventory is much more lenient, you use all five party members instead of just three, triple moves, being able to block any single target attack, buffs from getting constant timed hits. Basically, you get a lot more options, but they didn't change enemy strength to accommodate for those changes.
ah damn, well thats a little frustrating
hopefully the added content makes up for it somewhat
What added content?
>you use all five party members instead of just three
ARE YOU SERIOUS? What the actual frick. That literally breaks the game.
>That literally breaks the game
Oh yeah, but Peach alone didn't.
Doesn't matter. It breaks the game more than it already was. The game was properly constructed around having only 3 party members.
This makes the game a little bit easier overall but the original wasn’t difficult anyway so it’s a fun play through, worth it if you’re a big fan of the game and want to play it with a new coat of paint a few neat features or if you’ve never played the original and want to give it a try.
>fast travel for quicker backtracking
Backtracking was already fast as frick though thanks to the world map.
Yeah that's the only thing I'm kinda disappointed in hearing. I would love a hard mode but if not maybe I'll try a challenge run that looks fun
I have the extra-shiny stone.
How do I access the 3d Culex battle?
Go to the same door, if it's not there rematch Jinx or check with Frog Sage for who's next.
I've done the Jinx, Johnny, and Belome rematches. Booster and Punchinello are straight up destroying me. What's the strat here?
For Booster, I just straight up beat his ass and refused to let him play with his train.
use mallow for booster, the snowman move takes care of his sniffits fast
Just hit him to break his concentration, he did attack with his train tho and then my other two characters jumped in, finishing the fight in just one turn lol. As for Punchinello you just gotta perfect block everything, also hit the bombs so they turn at him.
Punchinello is a MF
you have to hit his bombs to spin them around to face him so they hit him when they go off
Punchinello is a skill issue.
Yuzu...fix...when...?
It’s called Ryujinx.
Unless your PC is crap, then you have to wait.
YOU WILL GET CAUGHT. YOU WILL GET CAUGHT. YOU WILL GET CAUGHT. NINTENDO IS WATCHING.
bump for frick ryujinx and all romsites for housing potentially faulty files that i cant use.
Is there really no way to re-watch cutscenes? Holy shit.
Even Kirby Forgotten Land had this feature
Youtube? Hello?
Lmao how sad, all they needed to do was add a feature to the journal
There is, I'm not sure if you have to beat the game but there's an option.
There really isn't. The journal is just pictures no cutscenes
is there a refight with wizakoopa? i fricked up and didnt have him spawn jinx clone so i dont have the monster list entry
Far as I heard, beating Smithy opens up all bestiary entries you've not unlocked so far. After that, you can go to Booster Pass and speak to a guy there to get the Thought Peek entries you missed out on for frog coins.
awesome, thanks anon. cheers
I started a new file trying to avoid all nonrequired battles. The random special enemies or whatever kick my ass when I run into one.
>post yfw they lock a hard mode behind a Geno amiibo
I'm actually hoping for an update to add a hard mode or something, I made the game way easier on me by getting the attack scarf as soon as I got to Monstro Town.
I cried when Geno went back to the stars
It was kinda emotional, a culmination of years of waiting for this moment.
Has anyone here completed the Monster List yet?
Anyone got a video or screenshot of the 3D Culex fight ?
They made Culex really hot in 3D.
They based him on his concept art
>culex was made by Kurashima
Odd, but cool.
Wait, so there's a 2D fight and a separate 3D refight?
First battle is the original 2D fight. The rematch after you beat the other rematches he's in 3D.
Yes. 3D fight is post game after doing other post game fights.
I always Saw Mario RPG as the missing link between the 2d final fantasy and the 3d ones.
I used to like to say that the FF series abandoned the crystals because Mario broke them all.
Makes sense, I wonder if Square already was experimenting with 3D or was this what started their decades long affair with 3D graphics.
that's adorable
Any permanent missables? Are they the same as OG?
I'm sad to say there is absolutely not challenge at all.
> You get armor that negates all damage like halfway through the game
Only if you know where to look. If you weren't playing clutching a GameFAQ'd min-maxed walkthrough the game has some moments of challenge.
-Hold onto seed
-Find Shyaway easily
-Go to rose town guy who literally wants things from both sources
mfw im 9 years old in 1996 doing things modern day adults think is complicated
Only if you know there's a secret path in Nimbus Town that requires walking on air.
Also, that's not halfway into the game, that's more than 3/4 quarters into the game.
did you never aimlessly walk around and find cool shit
Like someone give me some hope here why do I want to play an Rpg if it’s not difficult at all. For example, People always say yardidovich was a difficultly spike the in original, is that the case at all remotely here or can you kick his ass now without thinking twice? I need to know this one question and I’m making my descision to buy it off of that, so be honest.
I ignored triple moves until the post-game. No game overs until Culex.
>culex is still in
😀
The game isn't difficult because it railroads you into having enough level ups to beat everything.
It only gets challenging if you purposely avoid fights and exp stars, then you have to git gud in timed hits to avoid what becomes pretty much OHKOs
You guys are making it seem like you just have to press A In every single battle to beat this game
Outside of occasional Thunderbolt, kinda yes cause of the AOE Perfect Hits.
>I’ll play the original
The original isn't hard either.
>this game has no challenge
>I’ll play the original.
Anon i dont think i like what youre implying
Did they nerf bosses/enemies or is it the new additions making it easier?
Haven't done a 1:1 check but being able to block single target special moves is kinda a nerf. Seems to be just the new additions.
>POSTGAME
Does it have new content beyond boss refights?
Unless there's some super secret to do with the crystal shard, seems to be just the rematches.
>adds easy mode for literal morons
>doesn't add the fan desired hard mode
I get the original game isn’t hard, but it FELT hard sometimes, getting downed multiple times by bosses like axem rangers or yardidovich on a first play through, do you even get downed a decent amount in the main story? Not talking complete game overs. And wtf were they thinking with the AOE shit, it doesn’t even make sense
only guess for the aoe shit is;
1. Kids get nice dopamine rushes when they do good and power up
2. Adults who are replaying it want a cozy fast replay of their beloved game, and then get to see the new stuff.
Ive had mallow die a couple times to the special enemies but aside from that no not really
So was the casino removed?
Casino is still there but they took out blackjack, replacing it with a memory match game. Thank the gambling hating PEGI gays for that.
Ah that’s to be expected I suppose. At least the entire thing wasn’t cut out.
Are there any tips for Culex 3d? All of my characters are maxed out, and it's still giving me trouble. I didn't have trouble with any other bosses.
Finished Culex 3D.
Fun fight, only died during the Booster rematch since i didn't kill the Sniffits immediatly
>implying you didn't die to Culex 3D's meteor attack followed up by another non-blockable move
I didn't. You just need to have Mallow out and big magic resistence and Sodas for heals.
Crystal Shard, its just bragging rights.
about to do him myself, whats he drop?
Compiling Bowser stats for my planned builds:

>M.Atk: 124
>M.Def: 96
Notable Equipment:

New weapon: 75 Atk
Heal Shell: 24 Def, 12 M. Def
Super Suit: 50 Atk, 50 Def, 50 M. Atk, 50 M.Def, 30 Spd
Which build to go for...
Question SMRPG Gankernons: Which stat build should I go for?
Just pick whatever stat gets the highest bonus every time you level up.
Going for HP, even as the bonus, kind of feels like a waste though.
only go for HP when the other 2 are on diminishing returns
as a rule of thumb, add the stats. if HP gives more than the other 2 combined, it means you have a bonus to cash in because you didn't pick HP recently
it usually goes one( e.g: Melee) > the other (e.g: Specials) > (now HP is boosted because you haven't picked it twice, and the other two are on cooldown) third, HP with bonus.
5 for example, then the first level up they get would have Attack be the big bonus, then HP, then Magic, then Attack again, then HP again, etc.
basically.
Give it to me straight Ganker.
It's kino
I just realized this is a Magitek armor, I always thought it was a beetle or something lol.
oh shit, was that in the original?
Yep
Booster has a last name?
had
Bu Ki
he is the burger king
I thought it was an old-fashioned phone when I was a kid
Cool, and its the sprite look and not the robot chocobo from the art.
Umph, and same for the beetle
you think thats really mario's reflection or...
SMRPG and FF6 are my two favorite games of all time. I'm ashamed I never realized that's what it was, but just seeing it there makes me feel like a kid again.
So glad I wasn't spoiled by Culex in 3D. That hyped that shit so well and he looks fricking glorious.
Why did they add this?
holy shit
For funny
Game was retranslated. If I recall correctly, a form of this joke was in the original JPN script, but it was one of those cases where it wouldn't fit in the text box in English, so it was changed.
"Don't confuse me with someone else!" can't even be called a different joke.
Most are fixed, some of the references were dropped though, like the Jester enemies one is much more literal as opposed to the quote from Saint Trail.
the whole joke was that you were supposed to misread his name
dosoki yungu
donki kongu
ドソキユング
ドンキコング
That's sort of what the original Japanese version says. All of the Psychopath lines are more or less their Japanese versions now.
The mini-Goombas have a rewritten version of their old NA version.
Probably cause the original Japanese version was a masturbation joke.
There is a claim it might have been based on an old ad for chocolate-covered chestnuts that had a similar flow with words, but it is less popular. If the Japanese version changes will be interesting to see.
Do the postgame fights have monster list entries?
One question. Is the splash damage THAT bad in terms of making the game even easier?
I kinda like it. It didn't seem overpowered until you return to a location at a higher level. And when one enemy is near death just attack the other one for both to go in one hit.
https://imgur.com/a/871Mtbu
all monster list entries + thought peeks
doesn't include postgame fights
heh
>he keeps changing how good his eyesight is
Hey man are you here? Would you be able to share your save file?
These are great
lol kino

Seems so.
The Japanese names translate out to Earth-Link and Mercu-Link (Mercury). That was only half translated right in the original, so the new translation goes the other direction but keeps the theming because ????
>magikoopa to wizakoopa
Huh?
>no more heavy troopa is ready to launch
Now the album will fall even further into obscurity. 🙁
Magikoopa only ever had the one fight and he was the lead Magikoopa. The heads of Bowsers minions all have names now and his is Wizakoopa for some reason instead of Kamek.
>Now the album will fall even further into obscurity

THAT'S WHAT I TELL THEM
Anyone have the completed Monster List screens from post game bosses?
We all agree that the SNES version is superior? Right? Right ok cool
More SOULFUL looking? Yes. Better music? From what I've heard, yes, so I'm glad we can at least change the soundtrack.
The refights are interesting, though I expect the hacking community to patch those over to the SNES version eventually.
Anyone with full monster list can dump their save file?
>Magical Boy Smithy
Oh, that's a crown under the hood, I always thought it was a face with its eyes covered.
>that text
Despair but also an erection.
Damn I didn't know there wouldn't be a hard mode. Man, that's fricking disappointing. Tips or recommendations for a cool challenge run or to add some difficulty?
do a no healing run
Don't nut while fighting Valentina.
Next time I'm gonna try a level 10 run, so I have an excuse to use all of the mechanics. I'm sure you could go lower but I want to ease myself into it.
Honestly I think all of the battle themes except the regular enemy one got DRASTICALLY better. Especially the armed/weapon boss one
It just sucks that you have to keep a 5+ combo going to hear all the instruments.
i still prefer the originals, FAASSM especially, but they're much better than i expected to be with nintendo shoving those stupid horns and brass into every single game now.
Why doesnt mario just use a gun?
He does more damage using Lazy Shell.
2006
I'd call this game mechanically adequate. There is juuuuust enough to keep you engaged, to make you think about party composition and equips, to keep your reflexes and reactions honed. That was a strength in the original game, too. But the new additions like party supers, and being able to block single-target spells, despite making encounters even easier, fit well with the spirit of the game, keeping with the combination of simplicity and variety that the original game had and adding to it.
Why does a faceless, seemingly non-living cannon have probably the longest thought in the game?
>ebonics
It's over.
Adding the FF-style crackle and gradual fade to the first Culex fight was a nice touch.
any videos of 2d culex?
It used to completely block a lot of element attacks, but now it just greatly reduces damage taken from them.
i welcome the game becoming more difficult tbfrank my guy, it was pretty easy originally and it sounds like they're making it even easier
I'm not complaining about it, I'm just surprised they actually decided to nerf something on the player's side.
I wouldn't call it a detriment or an improvement overall, but "it works" and serves to distinguish it from the original in a noticeable way.
does smitty get a rematch or for lore reasons he is dead? i remember the theory of he being alive due to the other corpses on his final battle
I played this 30 years ago
We already discussed this game to death when it first came out.
Don't buy this garbage and support soulless remakes
are the cutscene desyncs on ryujinx easy to get over and not etract from the game ..?
they better not do my homie Booster dirty i swear to fricking god. The whole stretch from end of Booster Tower to Marrymore better still be taking place in the remake
you mean the race? it's in
yeah the race, the wedding, the multiple outcomes depending on how many of the items you recover before the snifits
Thats all in there, don't worry.
and your homie Booster gets a really good rematch fight post game.
Friendly reminder
>Mario
So Magic > Magic > Attack when bonus or pure Magic for most of them then.
depends on the diminishing returns.
if there's none, go for the stat priority.
if there's very little, same.
if there's noticeable DR, go for 2nd priority
if they're both DR'd, consider HP.
after this, the DR is reset, go back to 1st priority.
>Tried the Bowser and Mallow triple move for the first time
Jesus christ, this shit tears through Culex. They really wanted you to use Mallow and Bowser.
i love being able to switch party members so all five of my crew gets use in most boss fights.
Their new super weapons also are significantly more of an upgrade than Geno's so yeah.
Super weapons?
Remember how Mario and Peach had the Lazy Shell and Frying pan respectively? The rest of the gang get new weapons as well as rewards from the rematches.
Oh shit, nice. Can you get the weapons before endgame?
Nope, the rematches are post game only.
So only Mario and Peach get their superweapons before defeating Smithy?
Yes.
explain his role, if he has one

Why are there a lot of dead smithyes in that room already? are we even fighting the real deal? All the copy bosses where grey as well.
The lore is that it’s implied Smithy can make more of himself and he’s not the original.
please tell me the smithy phase 2 background still has those horrible nightmarish faces staring at you in the background
what's a good level to fight jinx?
I just went in at lvl14 and after the frick powered up I was doing 2 points of damage, and he still had 400hp left lmao
20+
Gear is more of a stat increase/damage increase/factor than level in this game.
any tips to make the 30 jumps in a row thing?
did they change the timing in the remake? I swear I had like 60 jumps when I had a snes 20 years ago 🙂
Yes they did change the timing, it's easier now.
Getting old sucks.
Good luck, if you could do 60 on snes this shouldn't be so hard.
pay attention to mario's shadow. The moment it hits the lowest you press the button. I got 100 jumps on my 3rd try.
Smithy 1 Theme > Smithy 2 Theme
Is the dildo still in the game?
The what
You can examine a spot in Peach's bedroom and it says "found Toadstool's ???". There is a lot of speculation what it is, most say underwear or bra. Some say a giant dildo
Oh right. Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s stil in the game surprisingly
If you mean "Toadstool's ???", yes. There is a "Peach's ???" in the same spot.
yeah there's an enemy towards the end of the game based on one it's called jabit
Looks like complete shit lmao
gays will never be happy with this game because NEW BAD OLD GOOD
It's zoomers trying too hard to fit in, anyone who was around to enjoy this game when it was new is thrilled at it getting a remake.
looks like a cheap ios port, only people who cant see past nostalgia will eat this shit up
The cheap iOS ports usually have smeary-looking filters applied to existing assets.
hey did you just blown in from stupid town
Well Nintendo shits out plenty of crap from time to time and its Squeenix, have you seen those FF ports.
Is there any single reason to play this?
All of the new content and new art style is the main reason, but it’s the same game at heart.
The new artstyle looks worse than the original
Well, then don’t buy it.
I don't "buy" games anyway
I mean that is how we even have this thread to begin with
Fake fan detected
yeah because everyone has a really fragile sensitive epeen like you and has to play the same type of game all the time. it may shock you to learn some people like easier games in betwen harder games. not that either one will get you closer to getting laid.
What
meant to quote
r.i.p. nappa death animation
Ok thanks
you're welcome
Unless you like shittier art style and less fun dialog, no. Just emulate the old game again.
Always wanted to play Super Mario RPG, but I'm disappointed to see that the game is supposedly significantly easier.
As a four-homies-in-a-row, excel spreadsheet gameplay guy, as well an an old school Paper Mariogay, will I get anything out of this?
If you like RPGs with action commands or timed hits, it's the one that started it all. Worth a playthrough in either version really.
It's not significantly easier, just a bit, but with postgame matches that are harder than anything in the original. It's Paper Mario, difficulty-wise. Fun, relaxing, charming.
booster and punchinello rematch was piss easy
you gays cant stand basic challenge for the life of you all
Booster is a joke if you have any sort of speed. Punchinello can be a bit annoying on emulator because of input lag. Seriously, I know the inputs have a larger window in the remake, but I'm playing on SNES now and it feels more intuitive despite the smaller window.
The difficulty is relative. Rematches only took about an hour overall for me but took a couple tries when the rest of the game was press A to win.
Meteor does max HP-1. Just heal and you'll all survive.
Also why HP bonuses kind of suck.
I started the postgame quest, Geno told me to go to the frog sage, and he's just telling me Belome is back and I checked both places and he's not there. What do I do?
He should be in his spot in Belome's Temple
It's easier? How is that possible? This was meant for kids that may have never played an rpg.
I remember thinking to myself "wtf?????" when they revealed an easy mode for the remake. I can't imagine how braindead easy mode is gonna be
My 6 year old nephew might like it. He also loves the assist mode in Mario Odyssey. I have no problem with easy modes even in easy games, though this game could really use a more difficult mode
No NG+ with a level 60 cap was a missed opportunity.
yeah that's how I felt. I don't mind the easy mode but I would've really liked it if they added a hard mode. hopefully the boss rematches are fun
From what I've seen when I switched over to easy mode in post game, it just raises your max item cap to 30 for everything.
O-oh...
>her
>she
Oof
This is a newborn Birdo, so it doesn't have a penis.
imagine the suction
>leave switch in sleep mode for like 5-6 months with no issues
>decide to install sooper mayreeoh arpig
>suddenly decides to stop working
Wasn't there an article recently that warned people to charge their dormant Switches because they just straight up stop working if left alone too long or some shit?
I keep crashing at Barrel Volcano right when I land and try to go to the next room on ryujinx. Anyone know why?
So lads, how many turns did it take you to beat Culex? Took me around 46, and 25-30 minutes first try.
I got blasted a few times but the time I beat him took me 35 turns.
It got up to the point where Culex and the 2 remaining crystals ran out of FP :^)
Slow and steady wins the race
literally just finished it
i said forget the setup and just rushed him with rock candies, fire bombs, and ice bombs
as long as you give whoever isnt mario a trueform pin you're fine really lol
do i need a higher firmware to play it on my switch? it says im on 16.02
did anyone 100% the Monster List yet? I'm not going around thought peeking everything frick that, and frog coins take too long to accumulate.
yeah but does anyone have the actual save file?
That doesn't have the postgame entries
Got my first crash AT THE END OF THE END CREDITS, didn't autosave so I don't get the post game until I beat Smithy again, damn.
Anyone got a fix for the desynced audio during the cutscenes?
stop playing on emulators
How will this fix my audio desync issue? It will make it so I am unable to play the game. Black person
you want to play it with no problems at all, it comes out on the 17th
I hear you're also coming out on the 17th
best strat to beat culex 3d quickest?
Anybody have a screenshot of the Samus cameo?
>geno can still 9999 exor
soulful
how do I get gud at parrying jonny in postgame?
Anyone tried a no equipment run? Figured it would be a fun challenge
That's a classic. No items or no healing spells can also make a difference, just pick one and the game is a decent challenge.
>reach kamek
>yoshis island reference is in the remeake
>fix the reference
>change his name
we won at what cost
what the frick
I thought the shells were eyes
Anyone who finished the post game have a completed Monster List with the Though Peeks?
Someone posted an imgur with the full thing
That one didn't have the post game bosses though which is I why I was curious if anyone also had those
so like
is wizakoopa just for this game
or did they just change magikoopas name forever like banzai bills being renamed boomer bills a few months ago
I think it was always an exception in SMRPG at least in Japan that they gave Kamek a different name for that game, don't know why localization didn't pick up on the idea that it's meant to literally be him but yeah this is probably just a one off exception
Magikoopas are called Kameks but the one in the keep was called Kamezard
So basically they fricked up again
If they kept that name kids would have confused him with Charizard.
Well, they properly made an alternative Magikoopa name that incorporates the word wizard in it, at least.
Ive never actually fought booster before. I just did it for the mallow thought peaks, but now i missed out on amulet. Am I able to get it later in the remake or should I just reload?
>I just did it for the mallow thought peak
You can buy them all with frog coins
soo just reload? Also how many flowers possible from the peach minigame right after
Yeah might as well
>Also how many flowers possible from the peach minigame right after
16
jesus 16. I dont need all of them to max out do i?
You can get flowers from other sidequests and chests
There's also a guy you can sell shit to for a chance to get one each time
The game gives you plenty of flowers. Don't have a nice day trying to perfect the hill, it's horseshit.
Mushroom boy in Seaside Town can randomly give you flower tabs for mushrooms anyway.
>want to buy the remake
>quickly remember that super mario rpg is a really short game
>remake costs 60 fricking dollars
>even with the bonus content from the remake and all the optional content from the original it's still a really short game
Alright where the frick do I yarr harr this shit?
google super mario rpg switch download hot babes online free
Anyone know how to get more fireworks? The mole guy says they're out.
So how do I access the post-game stuff? I went to the marrymore inn, then star hill, then Frog sage but all the frog sage is saying is Belome is up to his old tricks again or something
Anyone playing on ryujinx? Game hard crashes during cinematic when Peach is supposed to join
