Talk about romhacks. Any romhacks for any game will do.
I tried "Zelda 2: Part 2" and this guy seems to think it's a good idea to make blue slimes take 6 hits to kill at sword level 1, and to just shove enemies into every screen. I tried it out legitimately, and then just used gamegenie to get maxed levels, and lo and behold, you still find basic enemies taking more than one hit at max fricking level. I can't comprehend the lad who wants to dramatically increase the grind in Zelda 2.
Some reviews point out that the hack's puzzles and such are worthwhile, just not sure if I'll keep going with it. Definitely not going to be sorry that I cheated to max out levels. The grind demanded based on the pitiful damage output is just ridiculous.
Incidentally, I wish Z2 had gotten another sequel in the same style. Z2 could be dramatically expanded with things like items, upgrades, and other trappings of the series. It's a shame they didn't ever do one.
But anyway, tl;dr POST ABOUT ROMHACKS

no.
Zelda 2: Part 3 is the real deal, but you have to get good at the game
I'll have to check these out.
ROMhackers never tend to 'get' Zelda 2. It's either way too fricking easy or they double down on the bullshit because they think it's how Zelda 2 was.
IIRC, Amida's Curse got it, I think.
Been working on a thing
Mario 2 with animes?
With Di Gi Charat.
Very nice anon good luck
I've been playing Sonic Genesis for Master System, it's pretty much the Master System port of Sonic The Hedgehog, which I found to be solid in it's own way compared to the Genesis original, but all of the sprites here are swapped to look like their Genesis counterparts, and it looks stellar, even Bridge Zone, Jungle Zone and Sky Base Zone had their assets changed to look like Marble Zone, Spring Yard Zone and Star Light Zone respectively, though level design thanfully wasn't changed to reflect that, it still has the excelent level design it did before.
If there were only one sonic game to represent the series, it would be Sonic 1 Genesis.
If you were allowed two, it would be
>Sonic 1 Master System
>Sonic 2 Genesis
for a multitude of reasons:
>1MS -> 2GS feels like a real generational upgrade where 1GS -> 2GS almost renders 1 obsolete due to the amount of improvement in 2
>1MS has bridge theme
>makes green hill zone less of a staple
>makes 2 feel very fresh by comparison: just try it, play MS1 then SG2 and see how great it feels. Perfect experience.
Alternatively Sonic 1 Genesis + spin dash and other upgrades in Origins is no longer obsolete.
Nah it would be sonic 3 & Knuckles. Lots of game design ideas of sonic 1 were immediately abandoned in the sequels and the 8 bit games were fricking irrelevant
I don't want a spindash in best Sonic (IE Sonic 1). Spindash completely ruins it, IMO.
I do see why the spin dash would be a negative for some, as it takes away some of the challenge of keeping your speed through momentum, but at the same time I find it quite exhilirating, especially for Sonic 1's level design which slows the player down a lot more than Sonic 2's, it fits in quite well for the experience.
99.9% of romhacks are trash. The only game I've played good romhacks of that weren't bugfixes, restored cut content, or translations is Super Metroid.
>9001% of romhacks are trash.
>99.9% of games are trash
fix'd

You guys have extremely shit taste if you think garbage like that is a good example of romhacking, goddamn.
Would you like to elaborate or just because it?
Also zombies ate my neighbors has been getting a small hack scene. Mainly just level hacks for snes
Garbage level design, terrible new art, and assets stolen from other games. All of the assembly tricks in the world won't make up for the core of the game not being fun.
Oh. I found it fun. What hacks do you find fun?
As mentioned previously, the only good romhacks I've played that aren't bug fixes, translations, or content restoration patches are ones for Super Metroid.
Specifically, Ascent, Vitality, Unhundred, and Project Base. Unhundred was a good spin on the vanilla map and Project Base is the vanilla map but even more opened up.
What's wrong with 3mix? I didn't rec it, but I like it.
Glad you gave my rec a try. It's decent. Certainly one of the better AoL hacks I've tried.
its popular, therefore it's bad

Thanks for the list!
Tried out Amida's Curse, it seems exactly like what I'm looking for. Great so far. Thanks anons.
While I'm thinking of it, if you haven't played this before and like Mario3, check out Mario Adventure. Really cool hack though unfortunately doesn't run on real hardware from what I read (it's an almost 20 year old hack so I dunno if that's still true).
if romhacks taught me one thing, it's that the original designers knew what they were doing. it takes a certain artistry to make a proper game with harmonious elements, and romhackers rarely achieve that balance. I've played a few good ones, but they're the exception.
as for recs, super blob bros 2 for smb2 is pretty good. the whole blob gimmick feels like something a little kid would come up with, but the level design works, and I liked the extra assets, eg the rainy sublevel.
What are the positives and negatives of buying a rom hack cartridge from ebay?
Vision Quest is a good sacred stones hack
gerudo exile for LTTP puzzles
t-edition for FF6
I enjoyed legend of Zelda Winter Solstice, game is hard but not kaizo level and the winter theme is kinda cool. don't see many games go for it for the whole game.
Play Amida's Curse if you want more Zelda 2. Top notch hack.
The improvement romhacks for Mega Man X5/6 make them actually fun to play blind. The major improvement for me is that you can use incomplete armors as you obtain them. Locking off extra armors until you clear half the game at the very least was real fricking dumb.
I slap it to Snes D&D music
