The one where he had a server loaded up with players and ran some games with and without sniper, and despite priming them that sniper very bad unfair unbalanced they mostly played the same but could only vaguely say they had more fun when there weren't snipers.
I don't think that really proves sniper isn't a problem- it's certainly not a gamebreaking class but that doesn't mean it doesn't create a negative experience-
I liked that one experiment of his which added a red line indicator aiming where snipers are aiming at. I think it would fix a lot of problems with the class because at least you would know in what areas a sniper is watching before you get your head blasted off. Valve themselves agree with this design considering the red dot indicator, but it's too difficult to notice

Now Soldier and Sniper are overpowered by the fact that nobody has any tools to deal with them anymore, so if you don't play them, you're fricked. There's a reason why nobody b***hed about Sniper prior to the Sandman nerf, and it's because stunning him would allow your teammates to close the gap and kill him. The same applies to why less people b***hed about Soldier prior to Jungle Inferno, and it's because airblast actually functioned properly before it, whereas now a good 9/10 rockets you airblast will often go in some random direction, often straight into your feet, killing you. I'd like a Community Server that either has the weapon nerfs reverted or Soldier and Sniper disabled because those are the only ways the game can be fun anymore.

Just dodge the rockets. Soldiers have to try 20 times harder to shoot a rocket at someone above them. Scouts dancing around soldiers getting meatshots off is pretty safe ESPECIALLY if they're trigger happy and dump their clip too early. Soldiers also can't out-dps a mob, just dont stand so close together for rocket splash
Splash is not a flat circle on the ground, rockets are easy as frick to spam, and infinitely easier to spam than pipes due to rockets instantly exploding on contact with the ground. You're coping. I'll admit Soldier was at least closer to fair before all the nerfs, but he's overpowered now due to a lack of tools to combat him on any class other than Soldier himself, and as we've learned from Sniper, if the only counter to your class, is your class, then your class is not balanced.
Scout can still escape rocket blast radius' more easier than others. High ground is also still constructive, but you need to be ready for a soldier to rocket jump and bomb you. Still, waiting out the clip leads to safer approaches. No, its not perfect and soldier is quite an adapt generalist class, but when he isn't 1v1ing or picking off already damaged enemies his damage output isnt that amazing. He's a great duelist but not amazing at raw damage like Heavy or Demo

I just use Stock Shotgun, Stock Pistol, and Gunslinger on Engineer. I've been messing around with the Pomson lately though and I kinda like it. It's completely awful but making Spies and the occasional Medic seethe in chat is always a good time.
I'm a Stock + Stock + Jag guy myself. I have a Pomson + Circuit + Gunslinger loadout but I rarely ever use it.
Pomson is great for the 2% of the time your teammates aren't jumping in front of you eating your projectile and you shoot a crit across a sightline

I had to hop into a game with my little brother to help him with his amputator contract, if you can find a mostly dead heavy that's not been shot in a while you can get it by popping quick fix uber on him.
I think the contract might be broken. I recently did 6 or 7k healing in one life (died only once in the match) and I didn't get a bonus. I think it might be requiring me to heal 3k with the Amputator alone.
It is only with the amputator, medigun/crossbow doesn't count, the tracker is hooked to condition 20 being applied to people.

If it makes you feel any better, the 3k healing with the amputator is actually WAY WAY WAY (OBSCENELY) easier than the other bonus objective which requires you to be in a situation where your ENTIRE TEAM is in range and damage for at least 50 damage.

Cheating at the scale it is these days is more of a modern issue and uniquely with TF2 is an issue that is probably TF2 youtubers trying to hold official servers ransom to force the developers to make "balance changes" to the game.
Nobody really used LAN anymore so it's out of the question. And MM along with f2p was the reason why this game is in this miserable state. If we would still have moderated private servers that require you to open server browser to play then game would be almost completely immune against bots and cheaters. Upgrading anticheat and engine to source 2 also would help but not as much as the strong moderation and paywalling the game.

If we're specifically talking about the user server situation it's actually mostly down to changes in how the internet is these days.
You can sort of make the argument that Matchmaking was pretty significant with killing user servers, but it's just symptomatic of the rest of the internet going to shit.
It's kind of why the vague waffling of "TF2 will magically have a healthy user server scene again if they just kill matchmaking" is frankly so silly.
Same with any sort of anticheat.
Face.it for the short while they came back had a rootkit anticheat similar to Valorant which is essentially the strictest you can go and their only company responsibilities was moderation of their own servers and they were totally overwhelmed by people cheating.

The problem is the TF2 source code leaked years ago, it's an older game, and matchmaking effectively killed it since it allows a system for these bots to operate effectively without any counter measure. And since the code is so public already, they can't really do a lot about exploits that injects into the game, like what botting does. CS2 having the botting problem is a bigger deal, which is probably why they are investing everything into AI detection. They really should bring back quickplay as the main option for finding games with matchmaking secondary since that alone would funnel many players into community servers, since removing quickplay killed them off and bots aren't effective there. It's a pretty fricked situation no matter what angle you look at it, since the only bigger solutions is to rewrite major parts of the game (after they did it for the 64bit version), do temp solutions which only works for a month, or get fricked in the ass.

Locomotion has technically been solved for decades in games, but the specific solution that bots use comes from CS:GO bots from before the leak.
The source code leak is mostly FUD when it comes to botting.
Yeah, Catbots were rampant long before the leak, and things like .BSP parsing for navigation has existed long before source code leaked, so i'm not sure why all these people place the blame on the leak.
Best solution imo is official retirement of the game.
Close Valve servers, close the microtransaction shop and remove matchmaking/quickplay. Force everyone to use the server browser like they used to. Then community servers that weren't homosexualopia and 24/7 2fort could exist again.
Valve won't do this because they still make money off the shop and still make money off of lazy yearly crate drops of community made items.
Even then they never officially retire games, you can still play Richotech servers if you really wanted to, and TF2 makes millions from trading bots alone, meaning they would have little reason to remove the current valve servers. But doing anything to force community servers over official servers would be heavily beneficial to slowly bring them back with more individual moderation.

Matchmaking pushes everyone in unmoderated valve servers. Cheating Bots make new accounts to play as any class (mostly sniper due to instant kills from across the map) to spam voice lines, spam in the chat, spam voice commands and kick anybody not bots with votes made instantly. Idle/Trading bots don't play games outside private servers, getting shitty drops while doing other actions on Steam (these bots have been moving to stuff like the Banana game since they are more profitable and require less system resources)
If you play in Valve matchmaking you may be matched into a game where there are bots playing sniper that navigate the map and are aimbotting, additionally they may leak into servers full of human players as people leave and the matchmaker attempts to fill the servers.
It used to be claimed that there were around 70 bots per human players, but the new claim is that actually there's a separate group of bots that sit on the menu the entire time because the logistics of there being THAT MANY bots in casual were too absurd and eventually the children that watch youtubers caught on to it.
Usually you don't really have to worry about it too much, maybe you'll need to requeue a couple times unless very recently a youtuber put out a video and ~~*coincidentally*~~ there's far more bots in matchmaking than usual.

Most of the accounts (until people brought it up) were fresh and had sub 10 hours, and even now a ton of them haven't even launched the game in the past two weeks.
It's mostly nonsense but the (current) claim is they sit on the main menu waiting for crate drops to trade to a secret bulk buying scene that pays more for cases (that don't get opened) in bulk (this literally makes no sense economically).
What's the botting in TF2? Some way to farm market-place sellables by having bots frick around and do nothing in-games but just loiter for a chance to get items? I know DotA does (or did) have post-match items given which you can sell on market-place.

This is pretty much the experience of anyone trying to play TF2 today. There is a server browser for community servers but its hidden away as a minor option
Then there are economy bots that just sit in the main menu and farm drops. These aren't really an issue to most players but they massively inflate the playercount. The game seems to have like 200k players according to steam but in reality 80% of those are bots.
That's impressive if that's true. I'd have thought valve would have enough 'care' or 'business ego' to not let any of their games get THAT bad.

Made me remember when some TF2 gay I was arguing with said the game was complex compared to Counter Strike, it was harder blah blah blah, so I just downloaded it, grabbed the sniper guy and ended with like a 4.0+ K/D just to post a screenshot. And of course he never replied.
Pf course you chose one of like 2 classes that play the same in tf as other games. The rest of the game has much rich and diverse playstyles, there's still so much more to see.
Of course I'd pick something I'm used to. The point is, it's a game for low IQ babies.
If you haven't tried and gotten used to the other classes you haven't done a good job trying out the game to form an ioinion of the game as a whole like that. I get it, I started the game playing Spy and Engineer full time. I wasn't great at hitscan dueling and so relied on classes that rewarded me without needing good accuracy for killing. I figured scout was the pinnacle of tf2 prsctical movement aside from the sticky and rocket jumpers, but then I actually began to play more and more soldier and realized I love his high mobility and how limited I was as one of my other classes in comparison.
I suggest you try other classes too and get a feeling for their experiences and how it plays into the total game balance
