>makes a 2015 fighting game still using the same mechanics, sound effects and voice performances from Tekken 4 in 2001
>do absolutely nothing with it except dlc characters and a bowling mode
>absolute bare minimum story mode where the hypest moments are CGI cutscenes
>still the best selling contemporary fighting game out lasting newer titles like Street Fighter V, Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat 11
>No sequel in sight
What does this series have that keeps it at the top?
Tekken was always the most fun
Virtua Fighter is a horrible game
>it's the most fun to play
>it's the most interesting to watch
>best girls (and you can customize them)
best fighter of this generation
is tekken 7 still worth getting into right now?
yep, it's on sale most of the time (25 bucks with all the DLC) with the biggest population of players right now.
Also the sequel is not in sight.
It was shilled by streamers, isn't too anime-esque, and mashing makes you do cool shit. All of these drove a lot of new players to it, many of them twitch zoomers.
SFV also failed at launch so people who were looking to get into fighting games picked Tekken. It also helps that Tekken is a fun game
Which is funny because it didn't impliment cheese like auto combos or anything
>manages to be super successful despite the dog shittiest online with incompetent devs having no plans to improve it.
>laggy delay cringe net code without a way of punishing cheaters
>nothing but excuses when online play, the main way the game is played, is dog shit
You'd think these fricking idiots would want their game to be more playable. Perhaps they don't care when it's been as successful as it is; hopefully they'll do better with Tekken 8.
>Online boar
Cope, playing offline will always be superior. Playing online means frick all and is a poor indicator of skill
You're living in the past. Online is the future; you can't win.
>Playing online means frick all and is a poor indicator of skill
It'd be a fine indication of skill if the online were acceptable.
Lmfao even with better ((netcode)) people still don't consider online okay legitimate
it doesnt have to be legitimate. the online evo for these games were literally full of match disconnects and dropped combos to obvious lag. its not fun for anyone not living on an island playing with someone less than 500 miles away and not everyone has a locals
Even if you're right in assuming that online will never be competitive, and you're wrong, it's still ridiculous that they'd have the online mode so shitty. It's what most people who will play Tekken will play, and it's such a poor experience. If offline should be the only way the game is played competitively it's for the best of the series if the online is good.
>Not having a locals
Sucks to be them, maybe they shouldn't be living in a flyover state or some bumfrick town in the middle of nowhere
Not necessarily. I've seen online killers go to in-person tournaments and do really well. As long as the netcode is serviceable, you can get better.
Online will never be taken seriously and offline play is the only thing that matters
its fun and 3D games have no real competition despite soulcalibur 6 actually selling great according to bamco
harada is notoriously hard headed and swear he knows best. its one of the few things i hate about the game and it doesnt help that murray is in charge now to do it even worse
>harada is notoriously hard headed and swear he knows best
Watch this fricking idiot have Tekken 8 release in the arcades first.
No anna, no buy
Anna is in, dummy
She's been in for a while, DLC though.
No Anna, no wanna.
Frick
Was Harada always in charge of Tekken or did he take over at some point from someone else? Because Tekken 1-4 clearly have a different one than 5,6 and 7. 5,6 and 7 are very cringe weeb anime compared to the old games. If you look at say 2,3 and 4 they had a more serous tone and were just like 80s action martial arts tournament movies whereas 6 and 7 are cringey anime shit.
T5 was the end
He was always in charge. 1 and 2 they were still trying to find the identity of the game and finally hit it huge with 3. After Tag 1 didn't sell like 3 did, they thought changing it up in the most moronic way possible would bring them numbers again. Then 4 completely bombed and they realized that people just want more of 3 so they went back to their roots and ended up making the best game in the series. I still like 7 a lot though
>5,6 and 7 are very cringe weeb anime compared to the old games
stopped reading right there. tekken has and always will be anime
Why did you ignore the rest of the post? 2,3 and 4 are way more serious and grounded than 5,6 and 7.
>2,3 and 4 are way more serious and grounded than 5,6 and 7.
>ana and nina literally kidnapped and put in cryo freeze for 15 years in tekken 2
Who fricked Nina in her sleep and gave us Steve
leos mom. though nothing will ever come of leo and steve being related
Honestly it's a weird plot point anyway, and Leo is a pretty static character getting raped by Yoshimitsu
Well, you see, the game is enjoyable to play and the guards actually make sense, unlike every other fighting game.
>fun as frick
>online is ruined by having to wait through long ass loading screens for simple rematches and finding new players
Monkey's paw to frick and back.
Why did they give us best girl last then have super limited customizations
They don't want characters looking like clowns anymore.
>REEEEE online doesn't count
These frickers still exist? I remember all of the "pros" for shit like BlazBlue and stuff used to say that all the time and now they're all washed up or shills.
Because 2D fighting games are all absolute trash. Every single one of them. Tekken is the best 3D fighter so obviously is very popular.
>easy to play
>easy to enjoy
>easy to learn
>easy mechanics
>story isn't complicated
>distinguishable unique characters
>has cross over characters
>they only made older characters better
>i want to marry Kunimitsu's VA
I can only consistently play Feng but that's okey.
you're not playing Tekken
I only play it once a month now or with family when they want to play.
