honestly D44M handle it extemely well, its not in your face while also having several interesting ideas and methods (such as how the pr holograms messages getting more demented as the further you go, or how each bio also reflects this as well), it still baffles me how they went full moron with eternals story
2016 had, like, four HL2 segments where you were in a room while Hayden told you what to do next but that's nothing compared to constant VEGA / Hayden / that onionsface intern blabbering in your ear the entire game.
As someone who loves Eternal I agree. The Doom Slayer wanking needed to be toned way down and the capeshit aspects of the dlcs really fricking soured my opinion of the world building.
What doom eternal needed was BABES.
You have what's basically a heavy metal fantasy on your hands and the only female across two games was some bald b***h you barely see?
My headcanon that the Seraphim was the player and the Divinity Machine was whatever you were playing the game on was way cooler than Hayden being an angel and Doomguy's power being basically borrowed.
That's cool, I like that. Reminds me of my own headcanon for Zelda, that all Links are really just a series of random guys, and the "spirit of the hero" is the player himself, guiding Link through his quest.
This, I dont like that everyone is a fricking god and Doomguy is the centre of everything. They fricked the appeal of the character. Is the same route Halo went where Master queef is not just a really good soldier, hes basically a chosen messiah with powers granted to him.
>I dont like that everyone is a fricking god and Doomguy is the centre of everything. They fricked the appeal of the character.
Same. I'm not saying that no one should know about him after everything he's done but the nonstop wanking over him in almost every voiced line I hear gets really annoying.
This, I dont like that everyone is a fricking god and Doomguy is the centre of everything. They fricked the appeal of the character. Is the same route Halo went where Master queef is not just a really good soldier, hes basically a chosen messiah with powers granted to him.
I dislike how the monsters are now generic lizard aliens lookalike. The Baron design is fricking shit.
Agreed. DOOM was cool when he was just called Doomguy and he's going to hell to save his pet rabbit. Now it's capeshit with added unnecessary homosexualy lore, he's called Doomslayer now, he has a my little pony costume and the cringe 'rip and tear' shit sounds like a marvel quip.
>Doomguy
that's a fanmade term
he's nameless because romero wanted you to self insert as him
this is also why there were 2 "doomguys" in the box art: co-op
https://web.archive.org/web/20140203112006/http://rome.ro/smf/index.php/topic,1521.msg31827.html#msg31827 >he's going to hell to save his pet rabbit
daisy only showed up in inferno's ending and tfc is what revealed her name
we only knew of her when we saw her dead
Not only that gameplay ends about crappy gimmicks and difficulty if you dont play the game intended or its deactivated ( frick marauder shields, except the based one of ass effect 3)
>Doom 2016, story kino that takes itself seriously even though Doom Guy doesn't >Doom Eternal, takes itself tongue-in-cheek seriously and wants the player and Doom Guy to take it seriously
As much as I love the gameplay of Eternal I still don't know how they dropped the ball so fricking hard after 2016
I don't know who, but I have to assume that some important person was present during 2016 and not eternal. It just seems like the first had some specific vision that eternal didn't get, in almost every aspect.
one cool thing rage actually had was the imp-like guys that'd fling themself at you who would just go flying past your face when you ragdolled them, mid-air. I remember wanting to see more of that in the future.
Its an underrated game that ran verry well on shitty consoles, the only bad was that ending was just cut off just like that. Sequel wasnt bad either tbh, doom eternal's goofy shit feels closer to that game than doom proper tho

Its farcry with vehicle combat, cant blame you if you dont like that
Doom 2016 was written by Marty Stratton (game director) Hugo Martin (creative director) and Adam Gascoine (writer)
In Eternal, those three are still credited in the writing, but the "story" team expands out to a full 11 people. >https://www.mobygames.com/game/78860/doom/credits/windows/ >https://www.mobygames.com/game/143581/doom-eternal/credits/windows/
I wonder if it's a similar story with Aliens then, because that also really seems like the person who wrote doesn't understand the first movie, despite the same writer being credited.
Not just that, but specific plot points. Like when the robot in Aliens says that the old models were fricky and the new ones are good, why doesn't Ripley say "it wasn't broken, it was following protocols unknown to us"? She understood that after the reveal in the first movie and then seem to have forgotten, and became dumber.
And then because it isn't just the character that's moronic now, but the entire movie, the android actually is good this time around. And the moronic villain insists on bringing the good superhuman robot with interests completely counter to his own for no fricking reason. what a fricking moronic movie.
Aliens was written and directed by people completely different to Alien though?
Alien was directed by Ridley Scott and written by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, while Aliens was directed by James Cameron (lol) and written by David Giler and Walter Hill.
There's a story out there of when James Cameron was pitching the movie, he wrote "Alien" on a whiteboard, then added a $
Oh, thought I saw O'bannon in the credits of the second one. Guess I was mistaken. that explains it.

>why doesn't Ripley say "it wasn't broken, it was following protocols unknown to us"?
To be fair, I always took that as her thinking it was bullshit but not wanting to argue the point with an android and a company exec right next to her.

That whole chunk of the movie is her arguing what should be done, and how (also her experience is supposedly why they want her with in the first place, I don't think any other explanation shows up later), she's just very dumb about it, along with everyone else.

Bishop is a part of the Marines.

Is also colorful. The lighting can be dim and grody, but a lot of the hell levels in that game have a color palette out of a Crayola box. Vivid turquoise, purple, bright green, etc.
>final cutscene music was meant to be into sandy's city >id changed it to at doom's gate, not even synced with the cutscene so the music drops while the narration is still going instead of when the logo hits
Even the gore feels kinda weak because it just looks too cartoonic, shit just explodes.
Unironically nowadays only From Soft sorta goes gore and gross shit right because of the dark foreboding atmosphere, even if shit isn't literally gory.
Skimming through some of this shit. I'll be honest, I much prefer 2016's art style over Eternal's, I appreciate that they did their own take on the monster designs instead of just completely recreating/aping the originals. It was fine in Doom 3, and I don't even like most of that game's demons, but it was justified with the tone they were trying to go for, and they actually brought over the hell knight, 3's most kino design, to make it distinct from the baron.
I appreciate some of the details in 2016, like how you can tell that the mancubus and cacodemon are probably related, and the cyberdemon and spiderdemon having similar-looking mandibles. I thought it was cool seeing an official depiction of a "natural" mancubus after seeing that concept in many GZDoom levels and mods, and it makes me wish there had also been official natural or "helltech" variants of the revenant and arachnotron.
Eternal's "fanservice" designs should've at least been praised on still being different from the originals like the Zombiemen still not carrying the wepaons or the Manc and Tyrant still having new tech and some slightly different faces.
Having the base Hellknight still use the new designs while its classic look is given to the Gladiator could've lead to an interesting patter in the series too, like how D3's Lost Souls were an entirely different look while the Forgotten Ones were closer to the originals but still somewhat different.
It shows there's still different ways to bring back an old idea and making it different to a certain degree, in a game that is its own and not a "remake".
Eternal just followed 2016's replacement aesthetic: Hell's own logic of using amassed carcasses to visibly amalgamate into the fleshy obstacles spawned everywhere instead of working mankind's metal into everything (save for the demons themselves). Though I agree some more of that should have been maintained too.
I liked 2016 but I've only managed to make it a few hours into Eternal. Somehow it felt way more cringe compared to 2016. Judging from this thread, it only gets worse.
I can't wait for the new game to come out and all the contrarians on this board will claim that they loved Eternal but the new game doesn't have "soul" or feels "cringe" or some dumb bullshit.
Shut yo cracka ass up
>Black Doomguy is just Matt Damon
>Coonguy
>MUHFUGGA HELL NAW, DON WAN NUN DAT DEMONZ SHIIIIT
Doom if he steal
Black Doomguy already exists, he's called Phobos from Quake 3. There's an official Doomgirl as well.
imagine expansions where the 2 get their own guns
How could anyone still defend Shiternal after this?
He's dead, no longer a problem.
I always wanted to kill Demiurge
But there are many better ways to execuse that concept
TAG2 feels like they copied Japanese games but very badly
I genuinely liked the little hints of backstory in D44M, and then Eternal and the DLC shat all over it.
Yeah, had the potential to be one of the few good multiverse story lines. Then they went full MCU.
honestly D44M handle it extemely well, its not in your face while also having several interesting ideas and methods (such as how the pr holograms messages getting more demented as the further you go, or how each bio also reflects this as well), it still baffles me how they went full moron with eternals story
it's pretty in your face when it locks you in a room with the story with nothing to do.
2016 had, like, four HL2 segments where you were in a room while Hayden told you what to do next but that's nothing compared to constant VEGA / Hayden / that onionsface intern blabbering in your ear the entire game.
At least vega has the excuse of the robocop protocol in your suit
well, aren't you happy doomguy saved him in that cutscene in 2016? I thought everyone loved that?
As someone who loves Eternal I agree. The Doom Slayer wanking needed to be toned way down and the capeshit aspects of the dlcs really fricking soured my opinion of the world building.

but that's epic

Love the Scarjj, still the best enemy type in FPS
Should've just stuck with him being the antichrist Doomguy.
Missed opportunity to have a Dark Link fight with him.
>god is the devil
This was some reddit fedora cuckery at play
No it's worse, it gets retconned every DLC
First God was the Devil
Then the Devil was God
And finally they just said actually neither of them are God
I'm a zoomer and got bored after few hours in eternal but played whole doom 1 without any boredom
Eternal get repetitive very fast
The main stort was allright, playing the DLCs after that made the game meh
>makes you wait
Warhammer 40k sucks homosexual
?????
What does it have to do with DooM?
To add salt in the wound i would tell the same to Hugo before making him a forced nirvana for trash boss design
>Doomguy has a literal basedboy self insert redditor as a companion
You can’t make this shit up
This guy its the intern composer self insert after mick gordon
I would not call that guy a 'companion'
He just opens portals for him in cut scenes
don't you like it, big boy?
Damn Aang really let himself go after the Avatar huh
Eternal was a fricking narrative disaster. I literally do not care about the Marvel Avengers or whatever the frick those fake doomguys were.
Not only that gameplay ends about crappy gimmicks and difficulty if you dont play the game intended or its deactivated ( frick marauder shields, except the based one of ass effect 3)

I wish they kept with the 2016 tone, some changes closer to classics were good, but the cartoony aesthetic wasnt it.
They manage to turn Doom into a fricking cartoon.
I waaay prefer Doom 3 interpretation of Doom over this shit.
I prefer 2016s, but the master chief armour in it sucked tho.
Its fine just needed more classic torso or helmet
2016 had the perfect tone and presentation. No Idea why they had to ruin it in Eternal.
>2016 had the perfect tone and presentation
>dude what if doom 3 but again
Kys moron
Doom 3 wasnt about a guy pynching screen not giving a frick about rambles and babbling of a nerd
Itd like they tought that old technical limitations of sprites equals cartoons
Doom was always colourful ADHD shit secondary. Doom 3 was a mistake
Old doom doesnt have rainbow UI and colourfull pickups flying all over the place while deamons make basedfaces when killed.
*soiiackfaces

>Tendies ruining another series with bing bing wahoo
Explains the super mario climbing sections in eternal
Anti-demon enough for ya yet?!
Yup, doom eternals aesthetic right there in the pic, literal cartoon
I hated those. They were so out of place and didn't fit the theme at all.
They're TUROK based
No, its literally bing bing wahoo with a one up at the end.
Is also colorful. The lighting can be dim and grody, but a lot of the hell levels in that game have a color palette out of a Crayola box. Vivid turquoise, purple, bright green, etc.

never forget what they took from you
This. The lack of H.R. Giger like art in nu-dooms just prooves they didnt get it
all id has to do is rip off fans harder
so many ideas that people definitely wish they were canon
Eternal just followed 2016's replacement aesthetic: Hell's own logic of using amassed carcasses to visibly amalgamate into the fleshy obstacles spawned everywhere instead of working mankind's metal into everything (save for the demons themselves). Nah
Will id remake Doom 3?
Hopefully not.
>I AM NO HERETIC
This is fricking gay but better than NuDoom.
Doom comics lines are better.
Caleb? Is that you?
Okay but when is the sequel coming out
What do you want in Doom 6?
"I thought you'd be stronger."
"gay"

I literally refuse to play Bethesda's slop.
It's made by id in-house, not Bethesda.
