moron, EVERYTHING has flaws. there will ALWAYS going to be something that could have been added, be it story, graphics, gameplay, a line, a mere song, a single fricking object, etc ANYTHING can be added thus EVERYTHING has flaws
No, it has the same flaws as Zelda2. It and Zelda2 have some puzzles you cant solve with logic. And you wander around to find the next obstacle or npc.
The combat is indeed Zelda 2, but everything else about the structure of the game is more like Metroid. So the game is like a mix between the two.
It is a great game but I remember getting stuck on some things I had to resort to using a guide for, and like, I'm not one to complain about getting stuck in say, Zelda 2, which is easy and simple to figure out in comparison. Still I'd like to replay it one of these days
>The combat is indeed Zelda 2
didnt mean it as a negative tbh
i think Z2 has the best swordplay in the series, and definitely on NES
>everything else about the structure of the game is more like Metroid
oh yea i remember getting lost a lot
the thing that filtered me when i tried it is that the game doesnt tell you you need to talk to the deities TWICE in order to get a continue code. lost a ton of progress and then just gave up
should try it again someday
Game that feels so unpolished and amateurish compared to what it rips off. Clearly made by some college kids who got a Famicom dev kit. Happened a lot, though.
>t. havent played it
if anything its MORE polished than zelda 2
it does away with the tedious overhead random encounter shit in favor of more maps, and the gfx look WAY better
and it plays identically in terms of its combat and movement
There was no "dev kit." Nintendo and Sega both just gave studios a programming manual and that was it, they had to do everything else themselves. Design their own tools and whatnot.
bedroom coders were more of a thing in Japan partially because NOJ didn't have NOA's rigid rules that you had to be a real studio with at least $100,000 in cash. you could find programming info for the Famicom in electronics journals and get an EPROM programmer and a computer with a 6502 cross assembler, then pitch your game to a publisher. i guess NOJ still had a few basic Q/C rules like no porn and you had to have a pause feature but it was mostly quite a free-for-all.
I loved that game as a kid : classical mythology theme, less moronic difficulty than Zelda II, and overall one of the best side-scrolling action/adventure game of the NES.
I never played the GB version though, is it the same ? Or different game ?
It's the same game, but with many annoying sound effects added.
Loved the nes game too as a kid. The music is so haunting, I don't get why some people hate it.
Remember trying to get back to Hephaestus without losing half of your money? Brutal as hell. Salamander skin shit was nothing in comparison, by that point you have all the ambrosia and the gold apple, the hard part is finding your way to Circe (without a guide, anyways).
One thing nobody ever brings up is how the good the game looks... for 1988. The art style is amazing and graphics are varied and detailed. Also, all objects have a black outline, somethiing that would only really become a standard after SMB3.
It looks like a late 89/early 90 game but it's from early 88.
>made this game with Zelda 2 combat(very obvious when fighting the Amazons in Crete who behave exactly like the armored enemies in Zelda 2) and the stair system from Castlevania >proceeds to make ports of IBM-PC games to the NES and SNES and PC-98 from then onwards, no more original developed games >finally 8 years later, stops porting games and starts making new games again, doesn't make another port ever again >makes a remake of that new game a mere 2 years later
A strange game from an outright schizophrenic company. I guess their RPG G.O.D. was far more successful than Battle of Olympus.
What about it?
Certified Famibot Thread
and yet it still generates more actual Vidya discussion than any thread you've ever made
Very good game but has its flaws like Zelda 2.
i didnt realize it inherited so much DNA from zelda 2
the combat is basically identical
like down to the animation frames
Will I like it if I liked Zelda 2?
for sure man
it plays like almost exactly the same control-wise
like anon said its a bit more opaque in its exploration tho
Sadly, there's no down or upthrust here. But you zoomies probably never got far enough in Z2 to get those.

Zelda 2 doesn't have anything like that, you're just a brainlet
Puzzles or obstacles or talk-to-unlock. Dont know how you call it.

It seems to be inspired by Zelda 2.
Way better a game than zelda 2. Top 10 nes games.
the gfx are MUCH better

I heard it was a married couple who did this as a love project. But i am not sure if i this is true or i think imheardnthis.
thats true
i dont think they were married yet tho

I remember Chrontendo saying he didn't care for this one and thought it was overrated.

I get called a homosexual every time here I say this game is better than zelda2 but it's true. True that I suck dicks.
nah youre obviously right
anyone saying otherwise is just b8ing or literally hasnt played it
Ah OP, I see you watch NintendoComplete too!
Loved this game, Zelda 2 and Ufouria as a kid
This was pretty challenging, the worst part about the game is olive and salamander skin grinding though
Yeah, it was hell.
The constant flow of annoying enemies is pretty insane in some parts, like Laconia.
And just like Ninja Gaiden, the fricking birds are the worst
Phthia by far the hardest area

There was someone trying to remake it?

It looks like a late 89/early 90 game but it's from early 88.
I mean, other early 88 titles:
Predator
Testuwan Atom (Astro Boy)
Donal Land
Konami Wai Wai World
Contra
Double Dragon
Demon Sword
Battle of Olympus is miles ahead those
>Contra
Gonna have to disagree with that one anon
What are 88 titles? 88 stands for a nazi slogan.
Famitsu article with what I believe to be early version screenshots
Bionic Commando. It's an 88 title.
thats the one where you gotta kill hitlers brain right?
So games that copy the Bionic Commando game design?
Ad with what I believe to be early version screenshots
What a confusing commercial.
