TGA votes are like 80% critic right? The reason why TotK has a good chance is because a: Zelda is a massive critics darling just like BG3 and b: no on in Asia is ever going to pick BG3 over it. You only really need the Famitsu dude and someone in Korea to vote for TotK and that nullifies any advantage BG3 would get from the public vote. Doesn't guarantee it's win by any means but this isn't that free for Baldurs's Gate at all.

The problem with this award of that its one of the awards that genre matters nowadays, since accessibility IS getting better.
I went for Diablo 4 because of its genre. It doesn't have the accessibility options in numerous ways that Spiderman 2 or Forza has, but due to the genre alone its one of the most accessible games of the genre that's ever come out.
Spiderman 2 and Forza Motorsport have numerous examples of games that have been accessible within their own genre at this point. MK1 and Street Fighter 6 shouldn't even be nominated, especially MK1. SF6 I might understand but it still lacks a ton of accessibility features.
Kind of a weird year for this award because the past few years have genuinely been that good.

For me it's Metaphor Re Fantazio, Dragon's Dogma 2 and Under Night In-Birth 2. I don't necessarily expect that they'd put them, aside from maybe DD2, on here, but there is no way they couldn't find something more highly anticipated than Star Wars: Outlaws.

Look at BG3, Jedi Fallen Disney, Spiderman (even with patches). Buggy or unfinished games. This idea that RE4 was something they slapped together in year or year and half is laughable and dishonest. The only thing RE4 follows the original on is story beats. New engine that insanely mod friendly, new enemy AI, new enemy's, new movement, expanded map, a new counter system and new unlockables. Capcoms got more talent than any other dev in the industry outside of Nintendo and Rockstar. They're the only dev this year that dropped 2 highly praised games in 2023. They have 2 big games next year too. Consistency and quality that 98% of other devs can't match.

When games like Prince of Persia Sands of Time thought it would be cool to make the character and story feel more personal and lively by having the Prince narrate the story himself and insist that "No No No, that's not how it happened" whenever he died. When Dark Souls 1 decided to try and make a robust, and cohesive hostile enviroment, where every push to the next bonfire managing your estus and navigating dark complex areas, felt like fighting for your life to progress. To find something new, to satiate that curiosity and sense of discovery and continue to press on through harsh conditions, and varied structures filled with a number of unique traps and enemies always ready to greet you.

When I played it last year, I just went with the boring sword and shield setup (bastard sword and that golden whatever shield.) When I played it again this year, it was a lot more fun to start out as the naked class and find use whatever equipment and armor I could find, and create my build around that. Ended up with an INT build and when I got the Dark Moon Blade, I knew it was my GOTY even though it came out last year

Chants of Sennaar is one of the most unique puzzle games I've played recently and the theme is cool too. You're playing as a dude exploring the Tower of Babel and you can't communicate with anyone because of the whole Tower of Babel thing, so you have to try and piece together your own dictionary to know what the frick is going on.
