Came here to say exactly this. The atmosphere is not even comparable. XCOM EU got a no strategy game person like me interested just with the tutorial mission.
Which one had the powered exoskeleton armor that let you phase through walls and grappling hook up to high places? because that armor was super fricking fun to use.
They are both wonderful and I appreciate how each one conducts itself, going from men in black to guerrilla ops. Wondering when XCOM 3 will come out, and I want a special mission to find and recruit Vahlen and her snek GF, and Central is NOT happy about it!
much like sims you use all your friends and family followed by coworkers/schoolmates/etc
then you start getting weird and using british prime ministers or whatever
2 has >QOL features >one of the best modding scenes in modern video games
And that is all. Otherwise 1 is better in every single way >top notch atmosphere >no homosexual ass guerrilla shit and time limits, you are mounting humanity's last stand >T3 equipment looks badass instead of that saturday morning cartoon shit >you fight actual aliens instead of ADVENT and fricking zombies >Dr. Vahlen > the burgerBlack person, old man Shen > his daughter, young Central > bum Central >mechs and biomutants > the factions in the xcom 2 expac
2 is such trash in comparison.
2's generic "guerilla resistance" shit was so lame after EW, even the default unreal 4 aesthetic was shit. Especially T3 weapons/armor, they look generic and super out of place. mods are borderline essential
they are entirely manageable
they get stronger as the campaign goes on
you can beat the entire game without (permanently) killing a single one
also the Lost from the DLC are an excellent addition
Both are good games, objectively speaking
But if I let my heart do the talking, well Enemy Within is one of my all time favorite games
So many little things that resonate with me, all aligning to strike just the right chord
[Obligatory screaming about WHERE'S XCOM 3 REEEEEE HOW COULD YOU SELL OUT TO MARVEL SHIT FRICK YOU FIRAXIS LOVE IS OVER FOREVER AND EVER]
>cringe resistance vibe
Why is killing invaders different/more cool than killing occupiers? If anything it's way more impressive. Less people, less equipment, less power. Being in the resistance is HARDER and that makes it automatically COOLER.
because every game already does the "we are the #resistance" thing already. usually the pc multicultural thing, where your members all look homeless, your gear is a bunch of hand-me-downs, and you need to constantly justify your terrorist acts as "heroic"
unmodded 1 is better. but really only braindeads care about the base game. LWOTC is way better than LW1 and my cosmetic mods compensate for the horrible blm Black person/power ranger design aesthetic.
I have xcom 2 in my steam library but have yet to play it. I always heard it was far more frustrating than xcom eu or xcom ew because it punishes you for being thorough and not taking risks. Mainly, I loved being thorough in xcom ew. Should I get one of those mods that makes it more lax or should I try it vanilla?
you can be thorough in xcom2
the big complaint about the "timed missions" was accurate early in its lifetime but the developer toned it way down and it's not a problem anymore
Ok, thank you. I naturally tuned it out for a while so I was unaware of the changes. I'll go in vanilla then. I can always get some mods later on if I decide I don't like it anyway after all.
Nothing to debate. The first game was mid and the second game was a financial failure, leading to the team investing in two more financial failures, which lead to Firaxis shelving the IP and firing the entire studio that made these games.
2 is pretty much better in almost every aspect except the overall tone.
I enjoyed the whole X-Files tier "aliens are an unknown force" stuff. Also managing the continents were done better with all the shadowy government people providing support.
I also liked the fact that you have an actual base and not a guerilla warfare vehicle. >inb4 play the XCom Files mod
I know, it's my favorite XCom game period. It's just a shame that we're probably never going to get a game like that with the modern graphics.
2 is a straight upgrade but the new strategy layer sucks
this too bad we will never get xcom 3
2 is way better than 1 in every regard
overwatch spamming is not fun or engaging
2 is superior gameplay wise. But I do like the atmosphere of 1.

Enemy Unknown with the expansion pack is best. Then 2. Then vanilla 1.
>Vahlen
>N

We are never getting xcom 3 are we?
dude the studio is dead
like Im not memeing its been disbanded now
Frick me. Its so over
this isnt true. Jake Solomon left the company but somebody else can pick up XCOM, Civ has had a different designer for like 6 of the 7 games
Is this because they released that ESG abomination Chimera Squad?
>shotgunner is a strong black female
>ain't need no man, no sir mmm hmmm
Shieeeeeet
I think I put in under 2 hours, I really need to refund that BlackRock bullshit. I instantly bought it because it had xcom in the title. FML
Probably not, the lead developer left Firaxis after they made some Marvel slop.
Try Xenonauts 2.
It's more in line with classic X-Com and not as pretty/cinematic as Nu-Com, but I've been enjoying it quite a bit.
xenonauts is so dry and lame, no art direction
its like the generic branded product
Does snake breasts contain venom or milk ?
With Meld anything is possible
Jake is kill. Nu-com is effectively over.
How do you come up with names for soldiers?
Last time I named them after all my guild friends
much like sims you use all your friends and family followed by coworkers/schoolmates/etc
then you start getting weird and using british prime ministers or whatever
I only know this game because of the xenonaga posters
1st had better Setting, better music and better DLC. And better maps.
Second had the rest.
XCOM 2 winds due to mods beyond just "D-DATS XCOM XDDD *lose at 300 hours midgame mission*"
Shit I literally just bought picrel because I assumed that XCOM 1 wasn't worth playing if you had played War of the Chosen
the dlc made xcom 2 shit
True true
Fricking assassin
Assassin is the easiest chosen once you get over the Shadowstep beginner's trap and learn the general behavior of chosens
The warlock is the worst in my opinion, psychic zombie bombs and mind controlling half the squad.
Luv the lost
‘ate the anime trio

Is the Alien leaders DLC or whatever it's called as bad as people say, are they really bullshit strong?
they are entirely manageable
they get stronger as the campaign goes on

also the Lost from the DLC are an excellent addition
I liked 2 more.
The setting is up to personal preference.
Music-wise, base 1 is better but 2 has a dlc with some nice UFO remixes.
2 is better graphic and gameplay wise but 1 had the better art style. Just look at the alien designs of 1 compared to 2, it's like night and day.
Xpiratez
Two gave us terrorist jokes
End of story
Both are good games, objectively speaking

[Obligatory screaming about WHERE'S XCOM 3 REEEEEE HOW COULD YOU SELL OUT TO MARVEL SHIT FRICK YOU FIRAXIS LOVE IS OVER FOREVER AND EVER]
2 has lots of QoL and better mods but it has the cringe resistance vibe. 1 was good old fashion destroy the invaders
>cringe resistance vibe

Update when.

1 is more balanced and 2 base game felt unfinished. That said I haven't played it since WOTC came out.
There's no debate. Enemy Unknown/ Within is the better experience, hands down.
played 2 before 1.
1 is just too easy and low stakes.
