Honestly I feel as if I'll never relate to Ganker and its sacred cows. We were a C&C country here, maybe it was different in America but there was never a big Blizzard breakthrough I can think of, even WoW was more a game that you knew of but never played per se.
I've played the original Starcraft and Age of Empires II and its expansion The Conquerors but not Brood War or any of AoEII's other expansions yet, haven't played any Warcraft games.
I started playing RTS with Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Stronghold Crusader.
Warcraft 1 is severely outdated
Warcraft 2 is still a joy to play. The expansion campaign is a real challenge
Warcraft 3 is one of the best RTS there is but look for a pre-reforged installer
I'll swing by Archive.org and find them and give them a try, I'm not too unfamiliar with most of what one of you fellas mentioned: >No rally points >No queuing
Before the Remaster I tried playing through Tiberian Dawn and I don't think I applied Nyerguds' patch properly so my game kept crashing when I scrolled to one end of the map of the GDI mission in Salzburg. I'll make sure to secure a good copy of 3 too, only recently realized Lemon Sky Studios was involved in on the C&C remasters when I noticed their logo in the corner, sorry you guys got shafted with Reforged.
Broodwar is a lot of fun. The campaign missions are amazing and the moment to moment presentation is really good, even if some people complain about a few characters acting dumb.
AoE2's other expansions range from welcome to great. The last three xpacs: Lords of the West, Dawn of the Dukes, and Dynasties of India all have great campaign design. Not too scripted, not too skirmish. Dawn of the Dukes in particular has a great overarching story.
I'm planning on playing it after I'm finished with Starcraft's campaigns, played up until a Terran rescue mission on an old Blizzard account but I can't get it recovered because Blizzard's ass about it, I've wised up since then and got some old isos to use.
Is there a good widescreen solution for playing the original Starcraft and Brood War?

starcraft brood war is just warcraft two with ships that go over land.
sup com/ta i think should knock out warcraft 2 becuase starcraft is just the perfdcted engine for warcraft 2.
im watching alot f 40k on youtube so maybe dawn of war, or homeworld would also give any of those a run for their money as well.
but 40k is just a gussied up ta.
i guess homeworld would give you the essential space rts expierence.
empire at war or sins of the solar empire. star control series would also be considered rts?
I never enjoyed AoE2. Tried getting into it recently with the new editions, but I just can't. It's so fricking slow, and it's so fricking rock-paper-scissors coded
Slow compared to other RTS games, and just slow in general. It takes way too long before you've actually got a viable economy going and can start to attack the enemy in a more serious way than light skirmishing
It's not as fast as Starcraft, but a good player can reach castle age in 15 minutes, and that involves a lot of management. You can straight out dark-age rush a player inside 5 minutes if a 20-30 minute game is too long for you. Is 30 minutes too long for an RTS game?
the triumvirate for casuals
everyone was a casual back in middle school
not me
Brood War filters casuals and makes them whine about apm to this day
/thread
Warcraft 2 is overrated and aged far more poorly than the other two
Yeah, replace Warcraft 2 with 3.

Well WHAT country prick? We're not mind readers
c&c and blizz rts are entry level casual shitter rts
RTS isn't exactly chess
Chess also isn't rocket science.
They turn into mechanics focused action games after a certain skill level.
>he keeps making more threads after being mocked in his first one
lol, do asiaticclick trannies really
using the term "asiaticclick" instantly devalues your opinion.
WC3 instead of 2 and add C&C as well
Wrong.
>WC2
You mean WC3. WC2 is C&C-tier. WC3 had an actual competitive scene.
For me it's Age of Empires 2, the best RTS.
I doubt many people finished Beyond the Dark Portal. One of the hardest RTS campaigns out there.
The real difficulty is bringing oneself to play such an archaic RTS
God taste
>blizzshit
Replace that with DoW and BfME

>Terrible pathfinding
>9-unit control limit
>Targeting issues
It's painfully outdated
Well, is there any effort to bring the original Warcraft and 2 to working order or should I just play 3?
I mean, you can try them to 30 minutes and see if you have the patience, but there's no reward for playing a game you don't like

Brood War is definitely worth trying if you likedthe original. A lot of the missions in it are really good.

Only getting the Starcraft remaster.
Eh, I'm already back into the campaign with my isos, got to plant the psi emitter now.

I always liked Cossacks and all the other games by that dev better than WarCraft. I do agree with SC and AOE2 though.

Verification not required. I require answers.

😀 Is it a good mod, anon?
It's superb.
Does it fix the pathfinding? It was my biggest gripie with TA.
That and the passive AI in campaigns

Warcraft 3
Age of Mythology
Stronghold
These are the defining game of the genre
You may debate this dogma, oppose it even
but you will merely be proven wrong.
What a bizarre list
AoM and Stronghold didn't influence anything
warcraft 3 is shite
You sir are "shite"
