Yeah, the story was meh and Billy as a character is inferior to Daud in every possible regard. And leveldesign was somewhat bland for exception of the last mission. But other than that the game is great and the gameplay part is the best in the entire series.
New Dark Vision is he finally good and usefull after 2(3) games. No more tedious mana managment; you are given all abilities - no need to choose what to upgrade and wind sword is fun. Also, they got rid of chaos system for those who complained about it.
Some people just have an obnoxious way of telling a story and writing characters. I also didn't mind romping through the game but if you asked me about the story I wouldn't able to tell you anything. Pretty much ignored all that stuff.
If D2 threw Dishonored's worldbuilding, characters and narrative in a ditch, DotO shot them in the neck and buried them in a shallow grave. That's a deal breaker for immersive sims, and the reuse of levels certainly didn't help
What was wrong with D2 worldbuilding aside from bringing back Delilah and explaining Outsider's origin? Everything else seemed more or less in line with D1.
Was somewhat surprised with lack of mentions of Pierro.
Corvo is turned into an idiot by being oblivious to the coup

Whatever D1's ludonarrative accomplished, the sequels made sure to tear down
Revealed in the novel 'The Veiled Terror', taking place shortly after the game ends and whose story was planned during the games (same way the Outsider's new background was planned in 2 but only fully revealed in DotO), as the books were supposed to be part of the canon Expanded Universe. And that's after they resisted all they could at Dunwall Tower, fighting and dying for however long you were fricking around in Karnaca. They're paid with betrayal, and making sure now all the terrors from Pandyssia and beyond can't be stopped because "muh masked dude is evil the game said so :("
