The SMW overworld represents the continents around the Atlantic:
Yoshi's Island is central/south America.
Donut Plains is north America.
Forest of Illusion is Europe.

Bowser's Castle is Atlantis, then?
No it's Bowser's Castle
holy frick...
>many underlings are able to practice sorcery, bosses named after composers
>all represent the height reached by atlantis
>bowser kidnaps peach, symbolising their greed >thus their civilization was cast underwater
It's Brazil
I always knew America was made of donuts.

So you're saying Chocolate (brown) Island is Africa? Racist.
It's Antarctica before global warming fricked it over
its pangaea
had this wallpaper rotating on my desktop for a while, pls enjoy
my only complaint is the water seems so plain
also jpg artifacts
RIP wallpaper
No one is going to look at your wallpaper.
Have another.
It's kinda sad how little variety there is in SMW, especially compared to SMB3. It really didn't push the envelope in regards to creativity.
I hate to do this because I love SMB3, and I hate the fake SMB3 vs SMW shitposting from people who don't even like Super Mario games, but let's see.
The variety in SMB3 is great, but when it comes to it, the Super Mario formula is still the same: Athletic/ground levels, underground levels, sky and/or treetop levels, underwater levels, and castle levels.
This is the formula in the first Super Mario game and is still more or less the same in 3 and World.
3 has the egyptian world, which emphasize lots of breakable blocks everywhere and pyramid-like structures, the giant world (of which only 2 or so actually have giant enemies?), the ice levels, and I guess the pipe levels? Yes, 3 is very creative overall, but let's see World:
No egyptian levels, but does have levels that emphasize blocks, in fact, one of the Star World level is 90% blocks.
Giants? It might have even more giant enemies than 3 does, or thereabouts: Big Boos, Dino Rhinos, Mega Mole, Banzai Bill, Hothead. Likewise it also has small version of regular enemies (lil sparky, thwimp).
Ice? Sure, not much ice in a mostly tropical region like Dinosaur Land, but it does have 2 ice levels (one of which is one of the best in the game, imo), and a few ice sub-sections in some levels.
Pipes? It does have levels that also emphasize a lot of pipes, it also includes pipes that change their lenght as you step on them.
World also has Ghost Houses, a new type of level that focuses on puzzle-solving (something 3 included in fortresses, in World's case, Fortresses are kept for heavy action only, no puzzle), and Forest levels, a new kind of setting for Mario games (despite being a fairly generic setting, no prior Mario game really had it).
Not to mention Star World and Special World, which are secret worlds-within-secret worlds.
Both games are extremely creative, SMW, as the name suggest, is just more cohesive, while 3 has separate, smaller worlds that aren't interconnected with each other.
The pyramid level in the egyptian world is the worst level in the game. Frick that shit.
Well, the only real pyramid part is the outside, the interior is just an underground-type level like those in Vanilla Dome in SMW.
I like both SMB3 and SMW. I wasn't trying to start any fake fighting.
I just feel that SMW really doesn't surprise you much. You get most of what there is right away. Maybe the star world and the special world are slightly the exception, but it still feels out of the same toolbox. In SMB3 you suddenly got a cloud world with cloud levels, a giant world where everything is huge. Ixe worlds where the fireflower helps you melt ice blocks. Even the Bowser world is completely odd with all the ship and tank levels and whatnot. It feels more rewarding to progress because you see new things. In SMW you get very few new things as a reward for advancing. Oh sure maybe the dinos or those ropes on a little motor, but it's not much. Looking back, I wish they'd have been more creative especially with design choices, so that the aesthetics don't feel so same-y either.
Well, it may be more sporadic when it comes to presenting new stuff. It may not be many things but they're there. From the beginning, you get stuff like dinos and a giant bullet. The second part does feel like mostly plains. But if you explore a bit you find some ice levels, and then on the bridge levels you have sky levels. I think things like that break the monotony. (I feel like counting special/star level is kind of cheating, so I'll skip them.)
Still, you have to go all the way to the late game to get the cool shit that's the forest levels and the area afterwards, so it may give an impression it's all plains lol.
The ghost houses werent creative? Hmm?
They are creative as far as level design and their aesthetic, but they always look the same, so you've seen one you've seen them all.
This post is highly contradictory
No it's not.
Forest of Illusion is Russia.
I've known that on the rules and faq page it says "comment" in place of "post" several times. I'm glad I've never posted that word though, unlike that moron who's impressed by lame jokes, because it is a reddit word that you mustn't say.
Passive aggressive reddit moment.
I'm just amused but what's considered reddit is the official word used to call a post.
What a beautiful map
schizo
SMW evolving animated map was gigasoul.
SMW2 really suffered from its lack. "Pick a level number" is just not as fun as wandering around in the world, even if it's along a limited track. Plus SMW has all those other "extra" things along the way that aren't just a straight up mandatory collection of linear stages per world.
Yoshi Island - South America. Even the yellow switch pallace is atop a high mountain, like the andes.
Donut Plains - North America.New York is Morton's castle. Instead of a Wall, we have a Bridge separating it from the mexicans riding yoshis.
Vanilla Dome - Canada.
Cookie Mountain - Europe and Asia. Notice that one of the highest points in the maps is here, just like Everest.
Forest of Ilusion - Africa. Jungle/Forest dicotomy, also, the only semblance of 'society' is down south (Roy's castle and the Fortress are like South Africa).
Chocolate Island - Antartica after Manbearpig.
Star Road - Japan.
Special - São José do Peixe.
That's just the map of Elden Ring, you can see Limgrave and Liurnia on the left, continuing into a mountain area with lots of optional areas and eventually Caelid to the southeast.
and the future DLC area in the center in the water
Missing a greenland area. Some ice world named after ice cream or some other cold dessert.
My favorite food is illusions
iswydt anon, how devilish
Thanks anon
They actually represent the seven deadly sins. Yoshi's island is greed, donut plains is lust, vanilla dome is pride, cookie mountain is envy, forest of illusion is sloth, chocolate island is gluttony and the Bowser cave is wrath.
how is cookie mountain envious
WRONG b***h
Yoshi's Island+Donut Plains always reminded me of Argentina's map. I think it's because it has both that sort of inverted triangular shape and also that little extension to the right of Morton's Castle, that's part of the waterdall, actually looks like that on the Argentina map (where the famous Iguazu Falls are).
Argentina is also famous for having a frickton of Dinosaur fossils.
It doesn't look anything like that.
